I was looking at the wikipedia rozen maiden page, somehow i made me sign up, take a crash course in learning thier special editing procedures just so I could add some stuff to the page, like the names of the op/ed songs to both seasons. Anything else you see that would be good to add or fix?

Was thinking maybe a general description of Kira but I havn't read the manga so I have no idea. It would be better than putting "the eye patch is on the other freaking eye omg! /Sarcasm" like they have right now.

Thank goodness for that, since I could not imagine any Rozen Maiden splitting apart and devouring someone no matter how evil they are inside.

My favorite amv from youtube is the one of Sui to Mighty Heart, since i think it really captures her character.

I was just watching the episode where Hina passes away on the train and the lady opposite me asked me if I was okay because I looked so miserable. I'm so embarrassed :p

After re-watching that episode for the 5th time I think what moves me the most is how she trys to cheer Tomoe up even though she knows that she is about to stop moving. Even though she doesn't act it she has grown up so much since we were introduced to her in S1. I really hope they find a way to bring her back in early in S3 without ruining the flow of the story.

The way how the manga was going and how S2 ends, volume 6 of manga would be a decent start.

It's most likely that chapter 35 & 36 would be a good beginning to introduce Kira. Where Kira show herself to Gin in the hospital when Megu was sleep.

Good Additions are:
+ Megu's continuing struggle with her illness and her parents (Chapter 35, Mediums need more Character Developement)
+ The unvieling of Kira's psychotic nature (Pre Chapter 35. Instead of using Hina who already died in S2, normal dolls would be a good subsitute. Like how Winnie the Pooh doll in the manga got subistuted with a clown doll in the anime)

Part of the chapters that needs to omitted are:

- Hina's death and the passing of her Rozen Mystical to Stinku. (She die in S2 so no point showing in S3 manga style)
- Kana vs Stinku for Hina's Rozen Mystical (Kana became part of the Red Army at the end of Chapter 36. But since she's already part of the Red Army in S2 so no point showing that)
- Part where Gin and Kira discuss about (Hina's) Rozen Mystical (See Hina's Death)

Suigintou is the most human among them, obviously. Who else in the RM dolls would kill just not to be called junk? Who else wanted to get fixed and magically healed? Who had a desperate lack of self-confidence? The answer: Suigintou ... makes you think that a lot of people who have augmentations seem to be like her, only that they are nowhere near as hot, and nowhere near as intelligent (most of them, anyway.) :D

Azu Rozen Daioh lol!! I wonder what Kimura is suppoed to be, I'm thinking it's Jun. He's definitely perverted, but just won't admit it!

Seeing that evil Shinku character gives me an idea. I like Shinku, but it ould be cool to see an evil Shinku, who I assume would be 3000x more evil than Gin+Bara+Kira combined. How about finishing off dolls by SLOWLY pouring an entire Shinku-approved "perfect temperature" fully filled teapot on them haha. FaTEAlity!

She does this in midair too, since shedoesn't like wasting tea, she flys down fast enough in catch ALL the tea back into the teapot, then forces her defeated opponent to drink ALL of it. (If he's still alive)

Plus Shinku should attack using her long hair more like she does with Jun, if that isn't being bitchy I don't know what is. (Shinku has this "attack" in the fighting game, and lo and behold it's become my favorite attack to use on Suigintou). Maybe a move where her hair wraps around another doll's neck like an octopus arms does, suffocating (Star Wars force grip style) them while Shinku has her evil grin on. Darth Shinku for teh win!

BTW I still can't stop watching that Hinaichigo Mashimaro AMV, it's so kawaii. I'm not even a fan of Mashimaro either but the Hina part doing her scribbling goes exactly along with the lyrics in that part of the song.

Yargh it was non otaku in London (it was an old mans pub too).... It started coz a friend asked to see what my psp was like and didn't have any games on me only RMS2 so he had a look and suddenly we were surrounded. Trying to explain whats going on after 4 pints to people who think anime = cartoons that is just Sponge Bob Square Pants is not the most easy thing I have done...

That's an extremely difficult task. I made a paper for English explaining that anime wasn't like cartoons in that it had depth and meaning ... kinda difficult to do it in a pub ...

I've been doing my whole research projects in my college composition class about anime. First one of my essays was an analysis of Full Metal Panic. The second one was a critique about the nasty censoring they've been doing to anime series in the U.S., and the third, which is a comparison of your first topic with another, I'll make it a Rozen Maiden one. Already decided it! <_<

I watched both seasons in three days. Beat that

Watched the whole 1st season on Sunday, whole second Season until Monday noon.

I've been desperately looking for something remotely similar to Rozen Maiden and I think this is it.

It's probably something COMPLETELY different, but one of the characters look like Hina Ichigo....and the designs for the other females remind me of dolls for some reason.

And the ED animation itself in the anime is few where I've actually seen where it FITS the song exactly too.

I like to analyze songs in my own way and this song passed with flying colors. You don’t need to read all of this if you don’t want but it just shows you how much I like this song besides the nice melody.

I like listening to it first thing in the early morning. I associate it with the early morning's feeling of tranquility no doubt in part due to the ED animation's first half, I think it's morning there as well. So peaceful.

The crystal part "wave" thing, to me was simply an obvious depiction of inescapable change. Your world can't stay the same peacefulness forever...

In relation to the Rozen Maiden anime itself, you see Shinku sleeping there during the peaceful scene; I think it's her "dream" of having all the dolls just live a happy life and never worrying about the Alice Game, but unfortunately, reality literally blows in a with a vengeance (Crystals, Bara, Alice game, perhaps dying from the game as well). One can argue whether the other dolls in the peaceful scene in the ED are actually there at all while Shinku is in the tree as they fade in and out. Notice when the crystal wave comes, everyone disappears but Shinku is still in the tree. (Not to mention they would all be shish kabobed by the crystals and ruin that ending's mood for me forever!!!!)

The dolls can't escape their fate or destiny which is the dangerous and fatal Alice Game, as in shown in big letters in the second half. You must eventually "wake up" from your dream, as is shown by Shinku opening her eyes in the end.

To tell you in another way this song affected me, I was NEVER a morning person. Not that I didn’t like it, I just tended to stay up late usually and sleep in. My schedule is heavily centered on the later part of the day. I finally got the will to get up a week or so ago and watch the actual sunrise, taking in that peaceful almost magical time during daybreak. In contrast, everyone seen sunsets all the time, they really don’t have that strong of an impact at all to most people. I probably hadn’t seen an actual sunrise in more then a year, seeing how you must get up at the right time and sunrise times change throughout the year, being very early sometimes. So I’m sort of a morning person now thanks to that song. Can you believe it?

I didn't like the song because I didn't really 'listen' to it originally. A few episodes later, though, I listened and it became wonderful for me.

You have great insight there. Although I don't listen ten times, I listen to it pretty more than five times each day. I, for one, slightly differ from your perceptions. I love the song because of its sense of, yes, inevitability (Greek tragedy?), but I love it more because of its aesthetic sense of laconic sadness.

It implies a sadness deeper embed in the hearts of the RMs, partially because of the problem of existing to 'murder' one another. Shinku, as you said, tries to maintain a fragile balance to stop this, because even if arrogant she really cares for the RMs. And I mean really.

Songs are open to much interpretation, but I'll stop there for mine.

On a lighter note, I'm going to say this has been one of the better anime series I've watched this 2006, alongside Ergo Proxy and Hiatari Ryoukou. (Just so you guys could wean yourself out of RM by watching other things *looks at Flo intensely.*)

Hiatari Ryoukou, although old is a very fun anime about romance. I didn't think I'd like it because of its animation, but it manages the story very cohesively and very well at that. Ergo Proxy is the exact opposite of Hiatari Ryoukou, but the high budget and the high animation set it up to be one of the sleepers of 2006, and I stick by this.

Just giving suggestions, really. I suggest watching Hiatari Ryoukou. More people should watch that anime. And watch Rozen Maiden I and II as well. And Ergo Proxy.

Watch Rozen Maiden first, though. ;)

What I like about that part was the rose petals that immediately blew in the other direction, changing the tide as it were. Pretty symbolic for me, and as you said, all fitted in perfect time to the song. Definately one of the much more entertaining EDs I have seen (others I like: Wolf's Rain, Gank, Last Exile, Mushishi!!).

So it means that Shinku will OWN!! :uhoh: <no spoilers pls, haven completed RM:T, waiting for Ayu's 12th>

I can say without a doubt that RM was the only anime so far where I thorougly and equally enjoyed each and everyone of its 12 episodes. Other Anime series (the ones I've watched) have their up and down episodes, not so RM. Each one of RM is a joyride. (okay, i admit it could be because it was so short) Haven completed RM:t yet, but up to Ep6 where I stopped I was still loving each episode.

Will take your advice and check out Ergo Proxy and Hiatari Ryoukou. If there still are seeders. :heh:

Well I have to agree with the HnR's thoughts up there, because it IS such a great song. I think that very few animes have really good matching of Op/Ed with the respective songs and the ending of RM Traumend is one of them, certainly.
I've watched it over and over for the past two days, normally to relieve myself of the feeling of loss after finishing the series so quickly. Meh that's just me though.

But I just love it lots and lots.

Really? I want to see what you wrote; it's not everyday that someone decides to write a lengthy paper on anime for school, even if it is college.

Should I post it somewhere, then? It's not that much of a good job, since my grammar isn't that good. But I think it would be an easy reading.

Hmm, let me comment here.
"Alice" only lives in his head, right? Since Rozen created each doll with a different aspect of her, such perfect woman, doesn't it mean he was blindly in love with his own imagination? I can easly imagine that coming from a guy that looks as young as he does in the series. A person that's love-blinded won't care for anything else.

However, in the end of Traumend, we realize that this might have changed, that he now loves each one of the dolls separatedly. That's what I believe has changed in his nature.

Another thing that I can come up with is that the Alice Game is something created by the dolls themselves in their desire to fulfill Rozen's dream, not being able to think of any other way of turning perfect. Although I don't think this is the most accurate, it's possible.

But chances are we won't have that joy, unfortunately.

What I want is a bit different from what I expect, though...

I would really love to see Suisei Seki being a bit less picky, and I think that after losing Sousei Seki and Hina Ichigo, she will probably have that changed about her character. I'm also sure Jun will improve a bit more; his character development has been enormous from the beginning of the first series to the end of Traumend and I think that should continue. I'd also love to see Shinku calling Jun "master", instead of "servant", at least once, I'd die for that =P. Anyway, about Shinku... I'm sure she'll still behave a little bit like she has up until now, it's part of her character after all. Suigin Tou is the char that I have the biggest hopes for in terms of character development; I can almost taste the scene where Suigin Tou sits to have some tea with Shinku and group, and feel sorry for what she's done. I'd also like to see some more kewt scenes of Jun and Shinku, like the ones in the last episode of the first season; I'm also expecting Jun to say some sweet things to Shinku. And least but not less important, bring Sousei Seki and Hina Ichigo back. Though they're my least favorite characters (Along with Kanaria <_<), I'm too concerned with the other's feelings to let that pass.

From what I expect... well, I'd say from my experience with anime that we'll certainly have a lot more heartbreaking scenes and a few other sacrifices in order for a better ending to take place. If the third season should feature Kira Kishou and if the rumors of her demented personality are true, then I bet that we'll have to endure a few more episodes where all our hopes are crushed. I like that about Rozen Maiden because it brings my emotions up, something that's quite hard to do.

And one more thing: Don't let Suigin Tou die again, because if she does, then that's gonna be the third time. She'd probably break a record in anime deaths, aside from Goku, maybe.

Having Shinku call Jun "master" is simply unimaginable to me. Doing so would mean shifting her character from being strong and determined to being coy and submissive and a submissive Shinku is something I can't see happening (and trust me, I've imagined quite a few odd and scary things in my life ) . Also Suigintou IMO is best when she is being the polar opposite to Shinku and having her come around and apologize is too much of a turn-around in terms of personality. I can see her having tea with the other dolls but she will do so grudgingly and maybe with a little push from Meg-chan should Meg ever meet the other dolls or their mediums.

No no, don't get me wrong on what I meant there. I didn't really mean Suigin Tou going like "I'm sorry I've been so cruel and bad to all of you" and have tears fall. I wouldn't expect (and even like to see, in particular) that to happen. To me, even a different expression in her face would mean a lot, if they brought the subject up somewhere.
And yeah, I agree that there would have to be such a special occasion for her to sit down and have some tea with her sisters, certainly. I think Jun wouldn't accept her around in the first place too, since what she's done to Shinku in the end of the first season; that would be interesting to see. And about Shinku, I didn't really mean her calling him "master" all the time, only in an special occasion, like we see throughout the anime, with her different personality shifts. (One time she's saddened and introspective and something happens, she goes back being bossy. )

But I don't think it would be all that bad. Because Rozen Maiden has features of many different types of anime, I guess that having a season only for comedy wouldn't be a thing that hard to expect.
Take for example, Full Metal Panic. We're definetly expecting a fourth series, but considering that Fumoffu was only comedy and no pieces of storyline in it, the real story would sum up to only three (or even two, if they stop it at TSR.).
I guess that having four seasons for Rozen Maiden would be a bit too much, since it would just tire up the fans. But I think that if they were able to make 2 series out of 6 manga volumes (I would guess that the entire Traumend could be summed up into only two volumes, if done right), they would definetly be able to make a 24 episode one, or even longer. I say this because I find Rozen Maiden to have a storyline that could be extended much farther than we've seen up to now and than what we expect.

But again, unfortunately, I think that Rozen Maiden fans are a minority; that has a great impact on their decision to make another series or not. After all, it's all about profit. If they guessed that making Suigin Tou dance in a strip club would sell...they'd probably do that.

When my Internet connection came back in the last week of January, I unconsciously downloaded and finished all viewable subbed Bleach episodes, but I wasn't really able to enjoy it as I once did. Too much subplots (as can be expected with shounen anime) seem to lessen my enjoyment.

The first real anime series I watched was Rozen Maiden. I loved it, finished it within two days, and almost flunked an exam because of it. After I finished season one I went on with Traumend and enjoyed it similarly.

The charm of Rozen Maiden is the characters' versatility that although you don't like them immediately (I mean, who liked Jun or Shinku immediately?) they grow on you and improve as the series goes on. As the first was character-driven the second was plot-driven - both series are excellent, and no matter what other people say about dolls this will belong to my top 10 perhaps ... perhaps my top 5.

I recommended Hiatari Ryoukou and Ergo Proxy to you. Why?

I put Rozen Maiden in between these two anime, and that's why I like Rozen Maiden so much. It maintains the balance of a solid plot and great characters without succumbing to common love-plots. It in fact, is in a class by itself. All that's jolly good!

Hiatari Ryoukou is better than Rozen Maiden in terms of its characters. None of them are obnoxious at first - they don't just grow on you, you'll like them immediately! The weak part is the plot, because it's a typical sports-romance anime. Yes. The kind that is too character-driven, but is still good.

Its total opposite is Ergo Proxy. Its plot is dense, deep, arcane, mystifiying, and yet wholly engrossing. Like a jigsaw-puzzler the viewer is tasked to organize the pieces of the plot. The characters, though, are more than obnoxious than both HR and RM. They are meant to be real people, so they tend to be odious. Excellent heroine, if only for the face, and definitely a wonderful plot.

And then there's Rozen Maiden - in between, managing the mesh of character and plot. I just recommend good extremes of this anime ... http://www.cybergifs.com/faces/biggrin8.gif

This may change in the future, though. I may like EP or HR more than RM or RM:T, but be sure that RM/RM:T places in my top ten ... :)

Well I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from Rozen Maiden, after all, "it's an anime about dolls, probably one of those fill-in animes.". That changed after the first 15 minutes of the first episode. I think that men normally have this mental block against girly things =P But after watching it and seeing how much it affected me and how much it linked to my own personal story, I even DID ask my mother 500 bucks to buy a Shinku doll (read here that there's one for about that ransom. ), obviously I was kidding and I don't have 500 USD to spend on something like that (yet >P), but I think I got over that mental block that I had.

Anyhow, RM is a very well developed anime, certainly. Like you said, the characters grow in you. I'm sure that a lot of the people who love Suigin Tou now didn't think the same back in season 1, until the last episodes or so, and then Traumend with her small change of heart. I used to dislike Suisei Seki in the first episodes she appeared, but then, without knowing, I started to go along with her and she ended up showing herself to be very sweet at times. One scene I will never forget is when she had just made the contract with Jun and was trying to read his math workbook upside down. At the time she said that her "grandmother" used to read for her every night, I simply fell apart.

It's really rare to find such great pieces of art like RM, that's for sure.

Right now, I can't put RM on my top list because if I go by the feelings I'm having, I'd probably say it's number one, but that would be only a bad judgement.

One scene I will never forget is when she had just made the contract with Jun and was trying to read his math workbook upside down. At the time she said that her "grandmother" used to read for her every night, I simply fell apart.
That has to be my favourite scene. Especially later on, the super cute scene of her on Jun's lap. "that x shows promise!" I think she said. Thats what I love about SuiseiSeki, her pickiness and manipulative ways actually give way to a soft and kinda insecure core full of cuteness.

Why did I start watching RM. A friend recommended it to me, but once he said it was about a bunch of dolls fighting it kinda put me off. I mean, dolls. Still he insisted, and I'm very glad I did start watching (I think it was because I had nothing else to watch, so decided to try it out, got hooked right from the start...by... Jun, of all people. I wanted to find out more about his character). One of my friends I recommended the show to said it was much better than he had expected, and for me that was true too. I'm suprised how much these dolls have grown on me.

got hooked right from the start...by... Jun, of all people. I wanted to find out more about his character). One of my friends I recommended the show to said it was much better than he had expected, and for me that was true too. I'm suprised how much these dolls have grown on me.

Yeah, I guess that's the same for everyone that watches it and gives the least chance of liking the series. The way they insert Jun in the story and show his changing character really amazes me.

If you get Jun from the first episode, he barely left his room. After Shinku's appearance, he was suddenly living with three special and noisy dolls, along with his sister. From the second episode on, you see that he's already going down to eat with them (Stair Wars episode; No matter how you look at it and say that was a filler, I think that one in particular had a lot of impact on his way of acting. I wouldn't imagine him doing things like that before.), playing with them, and going out of his house on their sake (buying Hina Ichigo's strawberry daifuku). In a sense I understand him and his likelyness to be eager for human contact, since he's 12, hasn't been to school and simply denied the existance of his sister for a few months. Or maybe I just try to analyze too much.

But one thing I found out after watching Rozen Maiden, and that's not to pre-judge anime for their main contents. It's a doll anime, but the way these dolls act is beyond human. Their feelings, hopes and sadness, you get it perfectly.

I'm sure Suiseiseki will enjoy Math if she was taking it.

I don't think so. She's the impatient type of person and I think she's definetly the type to be taking classes she would REALLY like =p

Actually one thing I liked about the transition from S1 to S2 is the lack of the miracle cure for Jun. He is able to go out now, but from his actions with Tomoe in the library it seems he still has an issues with other peoples expectations of him.

The unyuu shopping episode really changed my impression of him.

About him eating with them I wonder if there are any "directors cut" scenes where you see Shinku beating him untill he agrees to eat with every one....

I bought a new set of headphones, and they were nowhere near the more expensive ones that I've recently destroyed (by accident). It just amazes me that even at a more subtle and degraded form, Hikari no Rasenritsu still resonates in both the mind and soul. It's just amazing ... it seemed as it changed its form to induce a more subtle yet also more soothing sound of laconic suffering and beautiful pain.

I don't think that he's really "back". He just had to intervene to keep the Alice Game going. Creating new dolls would kinda complicate the whole thing, which he probably would not want. ;)

Look, in my opinion, Rozen's been dead for a LONG while now.
If you make do the math, Suigin Tou's "565000-or-so" hours since her last meeting with Shinku sum up to over 65 years. Even if Rozen made them in his 20's, he'd be an old geezer by now. And considering that they say it's very rare for even two of the Rozen Maidens to be awake, i'd say they were made back in the 1800's, IF that late.
However, he does appear in the series, somehow and we were left without a clue of how someone could live that enormous ammount of time, BUT, it's also said that he takes on different forms in his search for Alice... but I wonder if that's really true.
ME thinks that Rozen has decided to leave his eartly body and "wander" around the N-Fields. We've got some clues that each of those fields is inside the head of someone, his "Own World" (Gin's, Hina's, Jun's... ), but I can't explain the ones that appear in Traumend, because they're quite bizarre. Anyway, that's my best guess for how Rozen's still around.

But going back to your question... if he made more dolls and if they were to take the least bit of importance in the role of the story, then we'd be over four seasons, because you can't pack that much information in 12 episode anime. And considering that there're only 6 volumes out there, each anime series would take 2, 2.5 volumes? Oh well.

Ah, and speaking of the manga, don't know how many of you live in the US, but Tokyopop has announced the publishing of Rozen Maiden in their website.

I'm not a very fan of the non-fanmade translations because they tend to change a few texts from the original series.(Example, DearS's teacher Mizuka, which was changed from an English to a Spanish teacher in the manga.)

By the way, I wanted to check something up.

I'm not sure if you've discussed this before, but if you did I unfortunately wasn't around to see, so pardon me.
One thing I've wondering is "what" is Alice. We've been told she's a perfect girl, and that the RMs were created in order to emulate her. However, throughout the series we see that each of the dolls has a different personality or something that resembles a part of what a "perfect" female would be. For example, Sousei Seki's tranquility, Suigin Tou's determination, Suisei Seki's protectiveness. I've seen this before, but I can't recall where, but it didn't state all of them.

In my opinion, Hina represents innocence, Shinku represents both the sense of familiar love and a level of finesse (You can guess by the way she acts, moves and even drinks tea. ). Those and Kanaria's talent (She plays violin) are the most obvious traits to me.

So, watcha' think?

I think the main problem with the discusion in regards to the perfect girl is we don't know Rozen's definition of what a perfect girl is. Could a perfect RM be a self substaining doll no longer reliant on a medium? Gin kinda pulled this one off in S1. To be honest if it is becoming human then imho that is a big step back from where they are right now. For starters we tend to break rather easy and wear out after a few years of use.

I really don't think that his ideal of a "perfect girl" would be one of his dolls do act without a medium, because that itself wouldn't mirror what we know about Alice. Now that you mention it, I found something quite funny the other day.
Try searching on Google images for "Suigintou" and then "Shinku"
AMAZINGLY, all the images of Gin you have are normal images, whereas 90% of the images of Shinku are "sexy" ones.

Well I usually don't like to compare an anime with another because it always gets down to the taste factor. True some are obviously better than others, but for the individual person it rarely matters, if it's something they like. (Okay, saying "He is my master" is better than RM or YYH, or 90% of the animes out there is just madness, but you get the picture :p )

I loved Rozen Maiden because it left my emotions in pieces, which is something pretty hard to do. After I finished Traumend and went to sleep, I spent the whole night having nightmares about it. It affected me a whole lot.

Bleach is totally inferior to RM if u wanna bring Anime to a higher level, such as an academic level, or an personal analytical level where you keep thinking about the characters over and over again.

Bleach is however fun to watch, but if i wanna watch something fun I honestly would watch American movies.

Well, if I wanted to bring Bleach to an academic level, I could easly pull of a bunch of things that are added there for the sake of storyline. I've seen a few of my friends go like "Wow, this Sereitei organization is perfect! The capitains, the divisions! Wow it's so original!", and they almost smack me when I reply: "We've seen it already in Rurouni Kenshin and Peacemaker Kurogane. The Shinsengumi was like that, it's historical". And other stuff.

But I still say that Rozen Maiden is far more well written than Bleach, or most of these new animes that come out every year. But it always comes down to taste, after all. You might love watching hidious anime which won't add an atom to your life and hate animes which put the least bit of challenge to your neurons.

I know people like that, unfortunately, lol.

By the way, how many of you would like to see a beach scene? I was bored and drew Shinku, Suisei Seki and Suigin Tou at the beach 0_o I'm thinking about finishing it. Unfortunately I'm not good at moving, so I guess it'll just look crappy.

Everything comes down to taste and individual differences. That is inevitable.

However, having watched the whole of Bleach (as of 71), and of Rozen Maiden I agree that RM has a better-plotted story. Not only is it better plotted; it's much more coherent and consistent both storywise and animation-wise.

Bleach has exceeded its supposed time. It should die now. I had fun with the Shinigami Cup pederasty episodes, but Bleach should have ended at 52. Now, filler-filled and absolutely horrendous, it threatens to follow the path of Naruto.

Wow, I agree with you 100%. I don't think that animes made for the real win should have more than 52 episodes. If you want to make a second season a few months later or something like that, fine. But continuously streaming poop won't get you anywhere. Naruto has been sucking since 70-80 (Even though the series already had a bunch of fillers; remember 90% of the chuunin exam? Until they reached the towers, it's all BS. ). And it's gotten to the extreme after Naruto x Sasuke (Or should I say Goku x Vegeta) fight.

I bet that yes, they could get sunburned. The only think that differs a RM from a human is their joints and the lack of blood (Shinku's gotten a cut on her face in one of the episodes. There was no blood coming out of the injury. ). They even feel pain, eat and drink. (However, I have no idea where all that goes into. Given Shinku's lack of awareness about bathrooms :P )

That's also probably another one of Rozen Maiden's great traits. Instead of going into the boring anatomy of the dolls they leave that for some character and plot development. We could have known where all those food go, we could have known the 'little' things but these were sacrificed for the bigger ones, and that gamble was very successful. The animators were able to produce a majestic series.

Yeah. If there's one thing I find disgusting is anime with bathroom jokes in it. (I.e Naruto [Basically the only comedy in Naruto are the stunts he pulls off while trying to get to the bathroom.], Bleach [Although not much and the scenes where Kisuke is at the bathroom are trully hilarious].) Even in Rozen Maiden, but you get a different feeling from it. Though you will laugh at Jun going "You sit here and do the heavy work", you immediately stop to look at that little glimpse of Shinku's cuteness when she turns red and closes herself in her box. I personally found that lovely. It's not gross, so it's acceptable.
And also, those "little" details always bring you to bigger picture. Wow I will NEVER forget the look on Shinku's face when Suigin Tou rips her right arm out, the pain and the despair in there. Also after, when she tries to untie her lace with only one hand. If I were any softer, I would have cried there, for sure.

One thing about comparing RM to other longer anime's is that RM feels longer to me, I am always quite taken back by how much is squeezed into the 12 episodes compared to others. When describing it to others it feels to me that there should be more of them then there is.

About their dresses, is it me or does Suiseiseki's attire seem less "posh" then the others?

They could be 100% efficient when it comes to converting food into energy, Hina certainly burns enough calories :)

Rozen Maiden does character improvement very well, and I don't know - I think it also seemed long for me. Seeing as others also perceive the anime similarly, I think it is the great pacing of the episodes that makes it seem longer than it is.

There is also much packed within the few episodes of both series. Although not as dark or moody as Ergo Proxy, it also isn't as light or funny as Ah! My Goddess. It maintains a tensile, dynamic balance between these two extremes, and perhaps that is why we like it so much.

It can be funny, but it can be disturbing at times. Simply put, it is a great anime series.

I think people will tend to ignore it/think it is not good because the characters are dolls. I thought that way until I downloaded the first episode. Boy was I wrong!

I have very broad tastes as long as it is anime and without sex and pointless violence then I will enjoy it. Of course to be in my top 10 and rewatched countless times like RM is a different thing altogether. If you asked me if I would have enjoyed RM as much as I do, before I watched it I would have most probably associated it to Childs Play and said I don't think I will like it.

One thing I think they do so well in RM is how they mix in the chibiness to really express a fun or silly situation, especially when imho it is so well drawn throughout. The best chibi's in it for me are Hina and Sui (although Sui's chibi is mostly "wicked" is there a term for that like dark chibi?). My most cutest moment is a toss up with Sui and the bed time story or Shinku with Kun Kun cosplay.

Yeah I also felt that RM was longer than most 12-episode animes. The only other anime I felt the same was Girls Bravo, but it's quite obvious, since they pack a lot of stuff into an episode. You might be watching the first 10 minutes but already thinking it's been over half an hour of show. RM's just like that aswell.

And I'd rather have Rozen Maiden not so popular; with popularity, comes the fillers, the bad jokes, the bad storyline, way too long series. It'll just ruin the state of art we already have.

And once again.. HnR owns you. You can't hate that song, no matter what you say. Though you might not like it as much as some of us, it's impossible to hate it. I fell in love the first time I heard it, playing with the Ed scene of Traumend, and I gotta say that that Ed in particular was perfect. After I managed to download it, I went on a HnR madness, listening to it nonstop for hours and hours.

And I'm deeply hurt, since you guys made this huge ammount of posts while I was asleep :P I missed up on some here.

Also one thing I might add is that I recently found that the OP songs for both RM and Traumend are somewhat like the anime: In the end, you don't give them much credit. You don't like the dolls that much, but as you keep watching you simply fall in love with everyone of them. I recently found myself singing Kinjirareta Asobi, even though it's definetly not my type of song, I started to get a liking to it. It's kind of spooky, though.

Hay guyz, any idea on where I can find >any< type of Rozen Maiden stuff? I've read on the topic that there were a few PG versions of the dolls, but though I've searched around the net, I couldn't find anything, only posters, dvds, OST and the artbook (Also, if someone has this, I'd be thankful if you could tell me where to get it. ). Couldn't find garage kits, nor the real dolls to sell =\ Though I'm not at the point of "paying 500 usd for a Shinku doll", I'd be happy to see where I could get one when I am.

Edit: It's funny you mentioned their 'chibiness', because I was rolling over my bed last night and quickly pictured Shinku in an overly-cute picture, embracing her Kunkun doll. Then Hina with her alligator, Sui with her math "storybook", Gin with a Megu doll and... omg, gotta draw this sometime.

Although I do like Shimtsuki Haruka's lyrics, I tend to prefer "Sei Shoujo Ryouiki" by ALI PROJECT if I had to choose between the OP and the ED. By all means though, "Hikari no Rasenritsu" is a good song as well as it gets stronger as it goes further into the song.

Rozen Maiden will never be popular because it is about dolls. I can see the average person recommanding it to a friend as something like it is a show about "dolls fighting" (the worst!) or "dolls playing a deadly game" or similar stuff like that. Its abit too deadly for Mahou Shoujo fans and doesnt have a flashy 1st episode either.

Actually, Rozen Maiden is one of those shows that air late at night. That means target = hard-core otakus. So in essence, you are correct. You are not going to see RM getting viewer ratings as high as "NARUTO" or "Futari wa Precure Splash Star." But then again, those shows cannot even scratch the surface of "Sazae-san" and "Chibi Maruko-chan" as well.

But in other sense, it is very popular among kimo-otas and goth-loli loving dollpa lovers alike.

So I just keep writing my essays so only the instructor thinks I'm some kind of retard (:P). It'd be nicer if we didn't have this sterotypical view of the otaku as childish and the same as a nerd.

Stuff that's out of stock they'll try to get for you but my experience is once it's gone it's gone. What they say about T-shirt sizes being smaller than Western ones may be true compared to U.S. sizes but I've found the sizes of COSPA T-shirts are about the same as the equivalent British size if anyone's interested.
