the rosa mystica may indeed be able to renew or 'save' life. remember how suiginto was collecting them to save her friend? even though barasuisho may have been lying it does not seem improbable that it was a half truth. if the crystals do have the power to heal i wonder if the memories of the crystal would be passed on to the person recieving it.
The correct word is medium.
And from what we had seen, yes, once a Rozen Maiden inherits another Maiden's Roza Mystica, she too inherits the deceased Maiden's memories. Shinku did receive the memories of Suigintou when she gained her Roza Mystica. And when she gained Hinaichigo's Roza Mystica, she even knew what were her last words.

Somehow I got a feeling that if Kirakishou does in fact have a medium, it will be similar to Megu. I think the medium will be sick/dying whatever and likes to play with dolls while he/she can still can and kira fights to try and cure her.
I don't know where that idea came from.

Not too sure about that though. Whoever Kirakishou's medium is, he/she probably had something in common with her. Just like Suigintou and Megu (both incomplete) or Jun and Shinku (Both had very high expectations placed on themselves, and both will crack when they failed to live up to the expectations).

We didn't really see much of Tomoe though, so I don't really know. Now, what does Suiseiseki had in common with Jun?

Drink too much Yakult and brood in dark places will make give you red/violet eyes (still couldn't be clear of Gin-sama's eye colour), and you will also lose your belly.

It is not the Rosa Mystica itself that is "able" to save or cure or aid in any way a human I think, but the power a Rozen Maiden recives from it and only then if she transmits it to the medium..
Its hard to follow.. but stay with me here..; what I mean is..
When a Rozen Maiden obtains a Rosa Mystica she obtains the memories, skills & artificial spirits (its shown several times when for example Gin or Bara uses Sou's scissors, Sou's spirit Renpika appears to transport the weapon; same happens when Bara uses Kana's violin - Pizzcato appears there to transform it into her hand aswell) ; but also obtains more "power" to herself..
Displays of the increase of power can be easily seen after Gin takes Sou's rosa mystica, sends forth the feathers at shinku and her barrier can no longer stand them; then Gin says.. "they cut much deapper now.., I wonder if its due to sousei seki's rosa mystica"
Allright so.., this new given power from what we then saw when Gin came to Megu, can be transmited too the medium through the ring.., kind of like an oposite effect; usualy the medium provides power to the Rozen Maiden, which enables her to move, etc.., in this case, the Rozen Maiden was provinding power to the medium so that she could get better, as in a healing effect.
We have seen also Gin heal they're wounds by using the medium's power, so its very possible that the process can be reversed.
When Bara said to Gin "you cannot save her with that fragment alone", she was refering to the extra power that Gin was transmiting to Megu that she obtained from Sou's Rosa Mystica, NOT the rosa mystica itself..
So in order for Gin to continue to give a greater transfusion of power to Megu so that she could get better, she then needs requires more Rosa Mysticae.
Its the conclusion I take from this..
She does have a torso, though an incomplete one. The port where Jun winds up Shinku is around the upper torso area, so there's probably where the power source lie.
And Suigintou's upper torso is intact.
Actualy.. I belive the key-port is located in the exact middle of the back.., not in the upper torso or belly..
Remember this.., despite they're so complexed emotions, eating, walking, etc.. they are still dolls.., and as such.. they have a mechanics system inside.
Now.. I don't know exactly how the mechanisms are made in these dolls in real life.., but we did see when Rozen was creating Shinku that there where components involved..; also.. we saw Enju create and "give life" to another doll he had made in the shop.
A rozen Maiden is above all a doll that moves through mechanics, each doll has the key-port to make her start.., the only diference is that.. after that, they start to draw energy from the medium to move on they're own and they become imbued with living aspects.. in many ways as we all know.
When Gin threw the feather into Shinku's keyport.., it didn't stop Shinku because it went into her power source.., it most probably stopped her because it jamed the articulated mechanism inside.
Thus, even though she kept drawing power from Jun, she could not do anything about it..

Now as for how Gin can move... we realy can't tell.. its probably the same reason why Sui can move through all the 1st season aswell without a medium
Each Rozen Maiden has her own "power", its something that is Imbued inside them.., of course this cannot match another when the other is drawn from a medium, but it can very well make any Rozen Maiden move, etc after she is awaken..; I doubt very much that it is because she lacks the belly..
Question is.. how did Gin and Sui awaken in season 1... (I have discussed this on a few posts back already)
As for if she has a key-port or not.., the part that Gin is missing isn't defined on a straight line arround the weist, it goes up in the front and back and down a bit on the sides.., In my opinion it is possible for the keyport to exist.. since the area in the exact middle is still intact.
But we did see her immediatly rise when Megu opened the box.., and we did saw that before she compleatly awake the stod out her hand with the ring for her to kiss.., which means she at that moment "required" a medium..
I made the "required" with the " "'s because.. well.. I'd like to know what would happen if Megu hadn't kissed her ring..
I think that Enju is the one who fixed Suigintou (her body, I mean. Her Roza Mystica was not taken in season 1), for the purpose of the faux Alice Game. After all, in the episode where Suigintou returned, Barasuishou did say 'it is all going according to plan'.
Actualy.. I do not belive it was Enju that repaired Gin.., but I do belive that Enju was responsible for putting her in the church for Megu to find her.., thus.. organizing the entire plan to trick her..
Reason for this is.., when Gin block's Bara's attack on shinku, right before she loses her Rosa Mystica.. she says "Father told me.. I have the right to become Alice.., even with this body"
Now.., we know that Gin's memories did not fully come back right after she was awakened after beeing defeated by Shinku and repaired.., but after the time passed she started to remember; so it is possible that while she was beeing repaired she met with Father and he told her that..
Thus, later on in the process she, herself eventualy remembered it, which is not shown, but I think it is what happened.

Hmmm, we don't know who or what wound up Gin-sama, but I can bet my undead char's limbs that it is probably that old man (Souseiseki's medium) who wound up Suiseiseki. It is just that he doesn't want to make a contract with her.
And yes, we saw that Shinku does have mechanical parts inside, and yes, you hit the nail on the head when you said that the feather jammed the mechanical parts.
But when we looked at Suigintou, I noticed that her mechanical parts did not extend to all her limbs. We saw nothing metallic in the belly. How did she move her legs anyway?
And this brings up another question. Suiseiseki can move for months (approximately, seeing that she is moving from the first season to the near-middle of the esecond season) without drawing power from a medium, while Hinaichigo will stop in after a day after she couldn't draw power from a medium. What's with the inconsistency?
And the earlier post stated that the Yakult thing started with Suigintou asking Souseiseki's medium (damn, can't we just give him a name? I know, let's call him Mr. Bald) asking if he had taken lactic acid bacteria (Yakult) in season 1.

Really nice post Alu, I liked your point about the reverse power flow to heal Megu. Also your break down of absorbing each others Rosa Mystica makes lots of sense. I was pretty lasy with this and pegged the Rosa Mysticas as their souls and the Alice game something akin to Highlander...

Thinking about it she was aware how much time went by before her worthless servant figured out how to help her.

After reading everyone elses excellent anaysis of the show, my current reasoning of how the maidens are animated are:
Anything with a soul can be animated - Jun's dolls and the clown for example.
Animation needs some form of power, the soul will still exist without it (hence they dream endlessly)
Once something is animated it takes the traits of it's physical form, soft skin and eating etc. Basically the doll is a fusion of reality and a n-field.
Gin was able to move the way she did because she was the first and incomplete. What if Rozen didn't complete Gin because she is a miracle in her own right (of course they all are). What I mean is, maybe what happened is that she started moving before she had her torso added and from that point on the rest of the maidens were created to try to achive the same type of thing. A doll that needs no power to move.....

I'd love to know as well, but I'd advice not to dig too deep in to all this japanese-dolls business, at least not on a japanese search engine....... All kinds of messed up stuff come up....... (shivers)
Here's an idea, assuming that they're only delaying season 3 just so the manga could catch up and so the stories could go back in sync (or the other way around? O_O), it'd be a kick ass filler if they do some episodes on the dolls with their previous masters.
But of course if they are going to be ending up like the gone-down-hill naruto fillers then they might as well forget it, but still I think it could turn out to be interesting.
Like the story about that freaked out girl when she saw Shinku moved, or something like that. That must have been at least 60 years ago before Jun's turn to wake her up!

yeah, that might be true, but,... the Japanese makers might not really know that. They tend to look at Christianity more as 'cool' rather than religous truth. Which explains the extensive use of wings/crosses/Biblical prophecy to spice up anime and such.

I too do not believe that Enju repaired, or made Gin from stratch (remember she disintegrated in blue flame) One more reason to add to Alu: It lies in the reason why Rozen allowed Sui, Kana, Shinku to come back--> Bara wasnt a Rozen Maiden, because she was created by Enju; hence the Alice Game was void. However, if Gin was made by Enju; then Rozen could have brought Sou back, since afterall Sou's defeat by Gin would be illegitimate too. However, Sou did not come back; and someone posted earlier that it was because she was legitimately defeated. This shows that Gin, from her remaking, was a legitimate Rozen Maiden. Why Rozen chose to remake Gin; I'm really not sure. Someone start speculations..
Btw, I'm pretty sure after seeing the last episode that Gin got her stomach back. I saw Rozen pressing her middle-section, and lo and behold!! it was solid.

Most of these are really just speech habits, like for example, when people say "like" or "totally". Ex.: "Man, thats like, completely amazingly like that one, like, you know", or "That's totally cool!", things like that. A lot of animes have characters with similar habits. For example, Neneko in Yumeria, always says "Nanoda", similarly, Tomoka in Girls Bravo. So it's basically something just to add to their personal cuteness.
And <3 at those pics of Shinku and Gin fighting over Kun-kun. Seriously, I'd give out half my stuff for the entire collection.
Lol, actually I had a pretty psycho dream this night, where I went to school wearing a RM t-shirt in it. (Something I'd NEVER do, lol.). Then later I went home, and there was this really freaky-looking doll looking at me. Woke up not long after.. <_<
So those words don't have any particular meaning? I want to find if there is a relation to the words and the character of the doll that uses them, for example why Sui says ~desu and not ~nano. Unless the writers just smacked a random cute sounding word.

If you could choose to be a medium who would you pick as your maiden? Only whats in the anime counts. Remember the question is about being a medium not anything else....
For me I would have thought it would be Shinku or Hina, but when I had a good think about it I shamefully would have to say Kaneria.... But it would be a very difficult choice.
Shinku would be too much for me, I value my space and my possesions.
Hina after the Tomoe experience would be great fun, but too much energy I don't think I would be able to cope. I am assuming she would not suck her medium dry again because of the Tomoe situation.
Sui would also do my head in, I can't deal with people who say/do one thing and mean another, no matter how cute the action seems.
Sou, seems to want to sacrifice too much for the wrong things, like acting as her masters son and then in S2 even her relationship with Sui.
Gin is too dark for my taste, maybe she will brighten up in S3 through her relationship with Meg.
Bara is just too annoying with repeating thing and also she wasn't depicted in the best of light.
Kira is unknown.
That leaves Kaneria... She seems to care a lot for her medium, such as wanting to collect more maidens for her, collecting piccies etc. I would have thought she would have been jealous. She is a ditz (who in their right mind would start with Sui with a water pistol), but her heart is in the right place.
I guess after answering my own question I realise it is a pretty poor one, but since I typed it I thought I would share it.

I dont know... this seems unlikely, its not like Jun cant go: "Oh wait I forgot two dolls; let me go fetch them." :p Another reason could be because their RosaMysticae were with that damnable rabbit.

@grey_moon: My answer is obvious, Suiseiseki. Why? Yes shes an evil, manipulative doll, bit of a hipocrite (I think i spelled that wrongly), but thats all in good fun. She's also not expressive, and I think she hides her emotions by doing bad stuff: Kicking Jun's shin twice when she was ignored after the egg-blast. But. BUT. We see when things get serious, she actually has a strong character. To her love was very very very important; it even meant she was willing to get cut down by her sister. And the episodes where they showed her saying how she loved father, but also loved the rest of the dolls, that made her for me. No matter how perfect, how nice being Alice would be; she was willing to sacrifice it because of.. Love. I respect that very very much. Also, in Ep12, she was mean to Kana yes, but when it came down to it, she defended Kanaria at the cost of her life.
So if you can penetrate that mean, "evil" surface, its actually a soft, strong core. Desu.
Btw, just in case, I'd buy shin-guards. :)

Well, like I said earlier, it doesn't matter who rebuilt her 'shell', she is still a Rozen Maiden because she had a Roza Mystical in her. The Roza Mystical is what made her a legitimate Rozen Maiden.
Hmm....if I'm to be a medium, which doll would I choose....
Well....I am a tea lover, and Shinku's a tea lover too, so it will be good to have her because then we will have plenty to discuss about tea. But I can't stand her ordering me all over the place.
Hinaichigo is out of question. She is going to end up using alot of paper and my food expenses is going to skyrocket to an alarming level. She is a glutton of dolls (Unyu!).
Barasuishou is going to give me nightmares. And her lack of personality will give me the shivers. Out of question.
Souseiseki is kinda fine. She is also another tea lover, so, like with Shinku, we can discuss lots about tea as well. And she is analytic and all, and I'm analytic and all. We have even more to talk about. And she isn't too demanding either. She uses sharp weapons. I LOVE SHARP WEAPONS. I'm going to have a field day recommending her to use a dirk, a stitello, a flamberge, a zweihander or anything that is sharp.
Suiseiseki will be causing lots of trouble. She will kick me in the shins, and she will be making a racket. And she will break my windows, and if I don't pay enough attention to her, Slyvanas knows what the heck she will do. No chance in hell.
Kanaria is ok, but we don't share anything in common.
Gin-sama will be nice at home, but she is trouble. My house is going to be littered with her feathers. Though of course, since she doesn't talk much and she can be supportive in her own way (like how she is supportive to Megu), I think she is fine. And again, I'm going to have a field day recommending her sharp weapons.
But judging from my analysis, I say I will pick Souseiseki.

Don't worry, my location says it all. It may be slightly irritating. But they are well-behaved when they are properly "disciplined" Actually Barasuishou is already disciplined because she does not cause as much havoc as her real counterpart.

Any of you lived long enough to have gone through enough animes or manga would know that it is a classic "excuse" for male characters.
In older animes this typically happens during scenes where the male character would just flip over a little wooden table for no apparent reason (with food flying everywhere), as he drinks sake and shout drunken words.

If I ever had to pick a doll to be it's master, I'd say it'd be Suisei Seki. I know, she's picky and would probably drive me crazy, but we share a few things in common, and that's the difficulty in expressing emotions correctly :P And I guess I'd be able to satisfy her in her need of attention. I could even say I'd make Suisei Seki comfortable enough not to go haywire around the house.
Hina's out of question. I already have 2 over-childish younger brothers, and the noise they make is already enough to nearly kill me every morning I try to sleep. Besides, IR p00r.
Sousei Seki looks a bit like me, in that she is calm and has a lot of self-control. However, one of the things I look for in people is the ability to be reasonable in their choices. So Sousei Seki wouldn't be a person I'd stand that easly.
Shinku would be fine too. One of the things I treasure is finesse, therefore having her around, acting so cutely, would definetly make me pick her aswell. Of course, she's bossy, but I guess that with the right ammount of care she would be just fine around.

Well, we can try and custom make it to around Souseiseki's size. Then she will have a doll version of a Zweihander. It can be the size of her gardening shear.
Maybe I should recommend her to dual wield rondels instead. It be fast, unpredictable and lethal, though she will need quite a bit of subtlety to master rondel-fighting.
But Gin-sama and Cutlass seems to be a perfect match.

Oki.., first of all I'd like to thank everyone that gaved so much positive feedback on my posts, I know I am new to this topic and realy appreciate it..; and just between us.., they are a pain to writte, but I'm loving the discussion :)
If you could choose to be a medium who would you pick as your maiden? Only whats in the anime counts. Remember the question is about being a medium not anything else...
Now.., as many people posted this sentance.. I guess it would make sence for me to do aswell.. thus.. :

I realy like Suisei Seki's personality and all of her devious aspects :p ; and I also know that she does suffer alot through the series.., to me, if Gin didn't exist it would most probably had to be her who I would pick..
Though.., reasons why I pick Gin is..; and I'm sure Solwy has seen me writte this on other topics in AP..; its because I am always more drawn to the antagonists of the series..
To me, its not the main characters that matter the most, altough some stories do revolve arround them.., but in fact it is the antagonists that are sort of the catalysts for the story to move on.
Also.., to me they are the more complexed and emotional characters.., most are driven to they're actions because of several passed actions and events; in most cases they're end aswell is very tragic, and then we finaly understand them better.
These are my point of views though..
Gin to me is the BEST antagonist that I have ever seen in any anime.. and I do have seen alot.. :p
Her entire progress from what drives her actions in season 1 to season 2 is just so tragic..., and so beautiful to me.., and thus I can so easily comprehend many of the aspects of her personality.., I am definitly driven to these kind of depressed, tragic, loner-type characters.. specialy when they put in positions as Gin was.
On what relates to her beeing "evil"; well yes.., I also like that, though most of what we saw was in season 1.. I do enjoy a character more if she is not part of the "good side".. I guess I've always been like this.., its probably the reason why I kind of like Bara as a antagonist aswell.. compleatly diferent from Gin though.., the deep silent aspect on her just suits her perfectly.
Anyway, Anyway.., I mencioned a while back why Gin acted the way she did.. and I still today stand by those observations.., henceforth.. to me.., all of its tragedy is realy beauty in all its perfection..
So Gin realy is.. who I can relate too more.., thus.. its who I would definitly choose as a Rozen Maiden :)
Thus.. I go nuts everytime there is a wallpaper of Her.., I still am using the one Solwy made for AP in my desktop :p

Its safe to say that we "don't know" much about Kirakishou in an overall basis :p , or at least I don't..
She only appeared in that little moment at the end of season 2, which leaves everyone to think ALOT of possible things, specialy when it relates to her personality / role in the storyline.
All and all I have to say... she looks like an Amazing antagonist so far, again, at least to me..
I've mencioned it before.., if Bara was a fake and was That powerfull.. we can only imagine how Kira will be, specialy with 2 rosa mystica, courtesy of Laplace No Ma..
Also its been discussed that she still desires to play the Alice game.. and in the process she had compleatly destroyed Hina's body (despite no rosa mystica inside) - if this will happen in a anime season 3 is yet unclear; but its all and all a great point in Kira's personality..., just shows she isn't going to play arround.
Which.. as I've mencioned before.. realy appeals to me..; so.., I'm pretty sure Kira will be a awsome character aswell :)

Let's say that I have an obssession with melee weapons (favourite weapons are daggers. Easily conceallable, light, and a stab from it pretty much puts the end of any fight). Even if they won't be fighting, I would still want them to carry those weapons, for anaesthetic reasons.
But that won't happen, would it?
Now it is said somewhere that Bara and Enju only appeared in the anime and never existed in the manga.

I don't know whether Bara and Enju (not Anju) exist in the manga. Anyway, I've read elsewhere that season 2 (RM-T) has been done with the support of PeachPit (in contrast to season 1). So I guess there might be some kind of synchronization between manga and anime (didn't I mention that earlier?).
BTW, nano doesn't mean anything, -desu might be translated with isn't it, and kashira - well, it can be translated with brains, and as Kanaria thinks of herself as very very clever ("the smartest of the Rozen Maiden!"), she's permanently telling us Hey, I got brains!

So I think that in the anime Bara took the vilain role that Kira holds in the manga... then Kira may not be the next vilain if an other season is to come (I don't hope so).
In fact I think that Rozen never wanted her girls to fight against each other since he told Shinku that Alice Game was not the only way to become Alice. It has to be more a spirit growing than a mere battle royal game.
And that's why he choose to bring back Shinku, Gin, Sui and Kana. Of course they lost to the fake doll but if you take a look carefully, you will see that none of thoses dolls wished to fight in the final battle.
- Shinku since she learned the pain to kill one of her sister
- Sui desu never wanted to fight and just wanted to bring Sou's mystica, back
- Kana fought to help Suiseki
- And Gin ?
Well Gin's case is a bit more difficult. In Traumed she had 2 reasons to fight. Megu and her. Megu's healing was Bara's manipulation and her wish to become a complete doll, the main point of her anger toward Shinku was father's fault. Shinku said that among the Maiden, Gin's love to Father was the strongest and she had to suffer the most because of it. That's why I think that Father chose to attone what he did to her.
And why not Chibichigo and Sou ? Yes, they were defeated by real Rozen Maiden but...
- Sou, like the other dolls had to choose her path... but she chose the wrong one and fought on her own will. So she didn't desrve for an other chance.
- Same here, she provoked Shinku in Alice Game not for Father but for her own whim... and was about to kill Tomoe because of this.
The end of my speach. With 4 dolls left who don't wish to fight anymore, Father awoke Kira who has no reason to attack them because with only 5 dolls, there can't be Alice Game... except if like Gin in S1 she has her own goal or if she teams with Laplace.

If you'd allow me to, I'd disagree with this. Then why in the first place did he institute the Alice Game?? Why give them weapons? Yes I agree that was a shift in focus from violence to spirit; character development. But, IMO, I felt that Rozen saying that (that the Alice Game wasnt the only way) at the end of Traumend was kind of a cheap move by the writers/director to write off the Alice Game. Notice that in both seasons, there wasnt much exploration into the Alice Game. I'm hoping it will be the focus of Season 3.

I think she has teamed with Laplace. Hence she will most definitely be the antagonist. But I still want exploration of the concept of the Alice Game. There is so much the writers can do with that.

Been wanting to do the buff-up on Gin's pic the entire day, but studying for Stat tests just killed me. How the heck did I get an 80 on an open-book Political Science test, anyway? That's really retarded <_<.

And the cosplayer pictures are... strange. Specially since I can be absolutely sure that one of them is a guy. It's quite rare for me to find a cosplay that I like, especially since I'm a perfeccionist.
About the video posted up there, it's pretty good. They managed to make the video sinc with the music, which sometimes is hard to do. I'd have made a bunch of RM AMVs already if I had the songs for it. Since most of my songs are Jap, I don't find'em suitable to making AMVs.

I was looking back at some of the earlier posts where it shows that everyone has been debating important issues about this anime since the begining..; silly pictures apart (- It's always nice to get laught), there have been very good ones aswell.
I noticed while again browsing the earlier posts on one post where it commented about what consists as a Rosa Mystica, how each is created and how it related to those little pieces of "clay"? that we saw Enju put in the heating machine while he was creating his doll in the shop; the picture showed us that Rozen had alot of that material...
I'll see if I can find the post again.. :p
Anyway.., still now we are always debating important subjects.., so yes.., I wouldn't mind if Rozen Maiden had its own section.., but most probable chances point that it won't..., lets face it.., the thread is just too long for anyone who jumps here without a parachute to catch up.. (I've been doing my best though :) )

A while back a found a great website that explained the process of making porcelain dolls really well, but I stupidly didn't save it and its gone the way of the Gokuraku :(
From what I remember it goes like this:
Cast the pieces
Let them harden but not too much
Trim and smooth
Bake once
Cut out eyes etc and really clean it
Bake again
Sand it ready for painting
Then paint and each section that is done it needs to be baked.
When I read this I was gob smacked. Imagine the amount of skill and effort is displayed by Rozen and Enju, it gave me a new perspective on the scary china dolls I always see.
Now with the Rozen Maidens they have intrinsic clockwork mechanisms in their bodies....
Even without considering Rosa Mysticas if it is possible to produce a doll of this caliber I would say that constitutes to a miracle in its own right.
But going back to the quoted point, I believe that the Rosa Mysticas are souls of a higher level and it takes a maestro to channel (give) this type of soul to a doll and more importantly the housing must be at a level that it can take it.
I will have a good look for the site I mentioned it was written by a guy who is a major fan of porcelain dolls (maybe I should try introduce him to RM). Yeah, I've tried to do one of these a few years ago. I managed to model Hikaru of Angelic Layer in porcelain. It came out quite good, since I had already had a few experiences with that kind of stuff ( Since I was 9 i've lived with my grandmother, so she always had time to play with those). But then came the time to fire it, and bam, it lost it's original shape pretty easily. Gave up doing that afterwards.
But definetly, to make a doll like the RMs is one hell of a hard thing to do. Especially since I would doubt that their hair is sinthetic, like many of the dolls we see around. It's probably real hair, cut from real women. As there are a few brands of dolls that do that kind of work, they are certainly ones of a kind. Since they also have their joints and their "inner" parts, it's even more complex.

Madoka and Hikari no Rasenritsu for the win.

It wasn't packed by me, and I have absolutely no rights over it, and the files haven't been modified from the original contents. There are a few 18+ pics in there, but not that many, about 10 or so in a compilation of over 300 images of Suisei Seki.
Yeah, I've tried to do one of these a few years ago. I managed to model Hikaru of Angelic Layer in porcelain. It came out quite good, since I had already had a few experiences with that kind of stuff ( Since I was 9 i've lived with my grandmother, so she always had time to play with those). But then came the time to fire it, and bam, it lost it's original shape pretty easily. Gave up doing that afterwards.
But definetly, to make a doll like the RMs is one hell of a hard thing to do. Especially since I would doubt that their hair is sinthetic, like many of the dolls we see around. It's probably real hair, cut from real women. As there are a few brands of dolls that do that kind of work, they are certainly ones of a kind. Since they also have their joints and their "inner" parts, it's even more complex.

Such alot of process to make the dolls, and that doesn't involve mechanism. Indeed, the dollmakers are really serious with their work to try and make a proper porcelain doll.
My favourite Rozen Maiden OST music is Kinjirareta Asobi, and my favourite BGM is Shukuteki. I love Shukuteki so much I export it to a soundtrack mod for World of Warcraft and make it my battle theme.
Still finding the RM: Traumend OST.

I had to agree. The wallpapers Solwy made is nothing short of amazing, and plain screams 'awesomeness'. I never did anything cool with the photoshop, mainly because I don't have the patience. I'm always into quickness, effectiveness and efficiency, which sums up my impatience.

The tutorials you pointed me towards are very good, so far I have completed Sako's basic one and will start the advanced shapes. I'm a Gimper so it takes me a little longer to figure out the differences in the commands. So all I've done so far is made myself a very big picture of Sakura which just stares at me, Naruto would like it but not me!

And that was when it occurred to me that it could be possible that the Roza Mystica is a product of alchemy. Somehow, Rozen could have also been meddling with alchemy and produced those Roza Mystica. And if that is true, perhaps that is how he made the dolls soft and warm, despite being made of porcelain.
After work, I'm going to rewatch all the episodes to make sure Shinku did say that.

Alchemy could account for some of the phenomena such as longevity of Rozen and of course the link between moving dolls and golems.... Never thought about it, but alchemy is a good point.

How did you get the outline? and for coloring, did you just use 2 layers and color over one... each character at a time?

how I made it? It's a vector. I COMPLETLY redrew it and recolored it from the original scan w/ the pen tool. I posted some tutorials a few pages back on how to make it.
This is NOT extracting. tbh, I'm not very good at extracting. I've never made a wall by extracting before. and look at the scans,... they're messy and grainy, w/ ad's all over it.

It is a really good way to clean up and enlarge a picture if you can't find a decent source. One thing that I found really amazing is Sui's ribbon thing, how did you trace that, it makes my eyes water just thinking about it

One thing that I found really amazing is Sui's ribbon thing, how did you trace that, it makes my eyes water just thinking about it
>_<_>_< At first, I too, said how the heck am I going to make this? so with no choice, I just went straight for it. zoomed in really close till all I could see was square pixels. That ribbon alone killed 5 hours out of me. all 18 ?flower patterns(a few more were actually cut off at the bottom) . line after line after line. @_@
It was the same for Sou & Sui's colar, Shinku's hat, and Suigintou was the worst!
Suigintou's dress (see the tiny laces? and the net pattern in front), her wings, her sleeve even her skin color gave me a hard time.
It was hard to get her skin/hair color right since in the original scan, her face/hair color is messed up.
I actually made a mistake with the color of Gin's head and had to re-color it all over again.

Going back to episode 1 of ~träumend~, in the flashback to Shinku's creation, some weird Actually-Not-Crystalline-But-Looking-A-Bit-That-Way-Structure (ANCBLABTWS from here on) is shown.

Now, unless it is common practice to put weird substances into the oven you heat porcelain with (which I know nothing of), it would seem to me, like he is trying to do something with that piece of ANCBLABTWS--wherever he may have gotten that from--like, for example, trying to imbue some quality of it into the doll he made, or even consciously trying to create a doll with a Rosa Mystica.
Assertions that are probably true:
- Rosa Mysticæ are made of ANCBLABTWS
- Father had a whole lot of ANCBLABTWS
- Enyu has ANCBLABTWS (either he got his hands on father's supply, or it is a more or less common substance that can be found in Europe and in Japan alike)
- Enyu tries to use the ANCBLABTWS in the process of creating dolls
Speculations on possible scenarios:
1) Assumption: Enyu is not father
1. a) He has found out that ANCBLABTWS might improve the quality of his dolls and is in the process of researching how to use it
1. b) He has found notes of father and tries to create new Rozen Maiden dolls using ANCBLABTWS (or some substitute)
2. a) He has persistent memories (although maybe not quite clear) or found notes of his previous reincarnations and tries to build new Rozen Maiden dolls.

It goes pretty way back.. (specialy to the first page :p), but I think it should be brought up to discussion again..
Facts are.., we did see those ANCBLABTWS at the begining, and altough at the time I did not realise what they where, these assumptions make quite alot of sence..
We also see Enju place them while he was creating a regular doll as mencioned previously..
This leads me to think.., each doll has a soul.., and this process is used to acomplish a Rosa Mystica.., since we saw Enju use this in the creation of a normal doll, but in very little amount of quantities; maybe we can say that he was making the doll's soul.
Not a Rosa Mystica true, due to the amounts.., as the picture shows us, its quite possible that one requires that huge amount in order to make a Rosa Mystica.., but for a normal (non-alive) doll, those 3 little pieces might be enough..
I know this only applies to porcelan/clock-mechanic made dolls, such as the Rozen Maiden..; this process would not apply to dolls like the clown Jun repaired for example.
This doesn't mean that they don't have a soul.., maybe the type of dolls like the Rozen Maiden just require a more complexed process to be created.
When we saw Enju "giving life" to that doll in the shop.., all she needed to do was start acting on her own to be just like a Rozen Maiden..
Anyway.., what do you think ?

how I made it? It's a vector. I COMPLETLY redrew it and recolored it from the original scan w/ the pen tool. I posted some tutorials a few pages back on how to make it.
This is NOT extracting. tbh, I'm not very good at extracting. I've never made a wall by extracting before. and look at the scans,... they're messy and grainy, w/ ad's all over it.

Yeah, I realized that. However, it's not about the lineart itself, but about the coloring. Although I'm sure you based yourself on the textures used in the scans, it requires a lot of skill to do them correctly. I can say that because I've been trying to do the same thing for a while now, but on my own (Never been used to turorials anyway). Colors aren't my thing also, I've always been pretty bad with them.
And about how the Rozas are made, all I can say is that I don't believe that they need to be created through alchemy, or have some special type of clay in them. I've always believed that there are certain objects that really can have a "soul" of their own (Even before RM), things that we treasure a lot, for example. So I wouldn't say that such a special process for giving them a soul is needed; just Rozen's dedication and the love he put on the dolls: that's what I believe creates the Roza Mistica. Even Enju, who created Bara expecting her to be better than all the dolls Rozen made.
But still, I'd think that their Rozas are their hearts, therefore they did need a piece of the same clay that they were made of to hold it.

Well, they're definetly different. However we don't know how Hollie, Mei Mei, Sui Dream etc. came from. There was a bit of discussion over this a few pages back. All I can tell is that, according to Wikipedia, they're all names of female perfumes :P
One of the strange ideas that I had, (and I've had many) is since each of the Rozen Maiden have one of the characteristics of the "Perfect women, Alice", is it possible that each of the 'spirits' is a part of Rozen himself. Kind of a way that he can watch over his daughters after his passing on.
I can't remember any point where I saw Rozen and any one of the 'spirits' in the same place at the same time.
Just a thought.

Well, the Roza Misticae are certainly a part of Rozen's spirit, just like each thing we treasure has a little of our own spirit in them.
But their artificial spirits are really something we didn't have much information about from the start, so it's hard to tell anything about them.

All who got trashed by Bara: Suigintou, Shinku, Suiseiseki and Kanaria, did return, isn't it? The other 2 were trashed by legitimate Rozen Maidens and so weren't brought back.
It could be possible that the artificial spirits were all part of Rozen, which embodies his desire to assist and protect his 'daughters', since those spirits did exactly just that. But he sure is willing to crush his ego by allowing the spirits to have female perfume names (except Meimei and Holie, but they are girl names anyway).
The theory on the Roza Mystica is feasible, but still, where do the raw materials for it (the physical manifestation) come from, anyway?
And I am beginning to suspect that Rozen had a crazy alchemist friend (who probably spends his time in his lab in his obssession of creating a Philosopher's Stones and instead ended up making the strange objects used for Roza Mystica).

I think that Enju realized that Shinku was probably Rozen's best creation.., I mean.., there is clearly something about Shinku that makes her stand above all the other maidens.., I am saying this.., even though I don't like Shinku very much..
Actualy.., Enju while on the window watching over the Alice Game said a phrase that I think captures what's "so special" about Shinku..
It was something like "its so beautiful.., your anger.., silently burning crimson.. Shinku.." - that beeing said and we see Shinku's change of reaction after Sui and Kana having been defeated clearly shows us that there is more then meets the eye when it comes to Shinku.., she in fact is indeed.. VERY powerfull..
When it came down to the last battle between Bara and Shinku.., it seemed to me that Enju was more or less apathatic on the situation; this despite his desire to see his doll overcome Rozen's.., if Jun had not stopped Shinku from defeating Bara, most chances are she would have destroyed Bara and taken the Rosa Mysticae all into herself.., thus becoming Alice.., which probably would be something Enju would like to see aswell.
Altough in the end we are then revealed with the presence of KiraKishou.., the true seventh doll.., and in the process we realise that Bara did not have any Rosa Mystica.., so even if Shinku had won vs her and claimed all the Rosa Mysticae she would not have become Alice.., for Kira's Rosa was still missing..
We at the time did not know this of course.., question is.. Did Enju knew about it.. ?
- I don't think so.., because when Bara gets all the Rosa Mysticae, he thinks she will turn into Alice.., henceforth.., he had no idea about the real 7th doll even existing..

I had to agree that Shinku is Rozen's finest creation yet, and she is, indeed, very powerful, just that she is always holding herself back (being pacifist in nature).
As I watched all the episodes, I just can't help but feel that Shinku stands out among all the dolls, even Gin-sama (as much as I hate to admit it).
Though still in terms of strength, Gin-sama should be able to match Shinku, if she draws energy from a medium. Too bad Megu is half-dead, and so, to Gin-sama, using her energies is totally out of question.

Perhaps Bara already has Kira's Roza Mysica but we weren't aware of it. (Since we don't know exactly when Bara was born, she may have defeated Kira a long time ago)

I think that Enju is the one who fixed Suigintou (her body, I mean. Her Roza Mystica was not taken in season 1), for the purpose of the faux Alice Game. After all, in the episode where Suigintou returned, Barasuishou did say 'it is all going according to plan'.
Actualy.. I do not belive it was Enju that repaired Gin.., but I do belive that Enju was responsible for putting her in the church for Megu to find her.., thus.. organizing the entire plan to trick her..
Reason for this is.., when Gin block's Bara's attack on shinku, right before she loses her Rosa Mystica.. she says "Father told me.. I have the right to become Alice.., even with this body"
Now.., we know that Gin's memories did not fully come back right after she was awakened after beeing defeated by Shinku and repaired.., but after the time passed she started to remember; so it is possible that while she was beeing repaired she met with Father and he told her that..
Thus, later on in the process she, herself eventualy remembered it, which is not shown, but I think it is what happened.

Yep I have.. Until the RosaMysticae of Sou appeared in episode 9 (i think) I had always thought that their artificial spirit was their RosaMysticae, since Mei Mei was with Bara.

And isn't it that in the last episode, Enju is convinced his doll is going to be Alice? If he knew of Kira, he would say, "There is one more doll we must defeat." or something like that.
So I think only Laplace and Rozen knows. And I suspected that Laplace and Kira are on good terms with each other, maybe even friendly. And probably Enju knew that Rozen did attempt to make a 7th Maiden, and had even seen the plans and the designs. He just didn't know that Rozen had succeeded.

Well, this makes sense, since we see that Kira and Laplace seem to be working together, at the end of Traumend. She might be pulling the strings along with Laplace. However, I'd still think that he's the mastermind behind everything, just using Kira/Bara/Enju for his own purposes.

And the talk about Shinku, it's quite certain that she's special somewhere. Might be because of Jun, or maybe herself. But she does seem to stand on her feet much more than anyone else, and she knows how to deal with her emotions and make right choices for the good of all. That aside, we see that Enju definetly has his eyes on her. Can't tell the reason, however my guess is that he envies her. You did see that whenever she had to fight seriously, she did so with amazing results. From using Gin's feathers correctly to Hina's stuff. Even in the first season, at the end, in her fight against Gin.
The reason Shinku is so powerful is probably attributed to the fact that she may be in fact modeled after Rozen's daughter. I support this with evidence from the beginning of the first season. I believe one of those men is Rozen himself, and that the girl wearing red is Rozen's daughter.
Additional evidence includes the fact that Shinku means True Crimson (Zhen Hong in Chinese Han Zhi, or Japanese Kanji). This can be intepreted as true love, which also implies Shinku is modeled after Rozen's daughter.
Rozen probably ran out of ideas for dolls and most reluctantly had to use his daughter for the 5th one. This is just a theory tho, although there is some loose evidence to support it.

If we assume that scene was the first time Shinku was revealed then that little girl must have been someone special to receive a Rozen Maiden first-hand, and a VERY powerful one at that. Also, it can be safely said that Shinku would be Rozen's prized possession of all the dolls; from Enju's reactions to Shinku etc etc. He wouldnt just give it to anyone.. But okay, maybe if Rozen was not her father; he would have been quite closely related to her yes?
On the other hand, we can argue that receiving a RM firsthand doesnt mean much; she's obviously from a rich family, her father has money to buy one of these things..
And obviously we'll never know the truth will we? Unless a staffwriter drops into this thread and decides to make this the plot of (hopefully) S3. Anyhow, I like that theory. Its a novel theory..

I think Rozen is a doll maker who has reached a level that is like comparing Einstein to a high school student.
We don't know who gave the term father to Rozen, it could be something the maidens gave him since he created them and since they are in essence living beings, father is an understandable title to call him.
Wanting them to be perfect is hard to say as it has already been pointed out we don't know Rozen's definition of perfection. But lets run with this and compare it with:
Rozen the dad
Rozen the artist
Enju the bastard, I mean misguided apprentice....
My thoughts on these categories....
As a parent we all want the best for our children, some want our children to be perfect (tennis parents and piano parents I have much experience with). I guess if Rozen was a father, he would be a tennis parent pushing his children to be perfect at something. But wait the Alice game would make him a sick person, who would make their children to compete in this fashion to achive a goal that the parent sets for the children and still say that they love them.
Rozen the artist. Art some say is the reflection of the artists soul, others say that it reflects the soul of the viewer. I say omfg I get sooooo bored in these smelly art museums, but then again I have no class. But back to the point. If Rozen is an artist, then destroying any imperfect pieces of art like Enju did kind of makes sense. Lots of artists I know have their heads stuck up their own bottoms and hate being reminding of not being able to achieve a piece of work to some standard. So the Alice game does make sense here since the "imperfect" dolls destroy themselves on the way to perfection .
Could Rozen be a mix of the two? I think that to be a father and an artist to something you create is very difficult if not impossible thing to achieve. Well if we take my personal views on being a father (loving and wishes the best for their children including happiness) and an artist (willing to sacrifice everything for perfection). As a doll maker I think Rozen is an artist, I also think that the Rozen maidens are as close to perfect as you can get with doll. So what is this perfection everyone keeps going on about? Not being human surely?
Enju the jealous fool. Father or artist. Whatever I think he lost his way instead of striving to better himself he was blinded by his need to beat Rozen. I've seen parents act this way when they make life hell for their families by trying to beat the neighbour.

Well lets start an analysis from the begining shall we..
In the flashbacks we see, we Only see Shinku beeing "awaken" by some girl.., though this girl and cenary appear as if it all happened in the same time period as we saw the flashbacks of Rozen creating Shinku it does not indicate that she has any relation whatsoever with Rozen..
Also.., we cannot be sure if Rozen created the Rozen Maidens in the N-Field.., or how he even knew of its existence is beyond me.
Altough we do see the girl crying to her father because she was scared when she saw Shinku move.., and thus then we see the father closing the box with Shinku inside. A question raises here..., if that person already knew that that doll (Shinku) could move..
Hence probably why many think it is Rozen..
All and all.., I first also belived that Rozen even though as an artist had probably suffered the loss of his child, and then used his know-how to try and, well not bring her back to life, but fill some sort of void left over..
Henceforth his search for Alice.
If this is true though.., then that Girl we saw cannot definitly be Rozen's child.., for then he had made Shinku and all the previous dolls with her alive and well..
Plus.., I do not think Rozen would "stop" any of his dolls after they where awaken.., and we did see that Girl "awaken" Shinku.., which means she was asleep..
We also see flashbacks of another girl closing the box on Hina.., in which this case leads me to belive that its definitly about a past memory of a medium.
Mediums come and go sort of speak.., I know it sounds harsh but.. its what we mostely can say when it comes to this subject.., a person does not live forever.., and the Rozen Maiden have been awakened several times since the time that they where created.., thus.., the past mediums have probably long died..
Altough we cannot say that for sure... the existence of the N-Field holds many questions.., Rozen is still alive.. and has been for all this time...

Then who would these two be? They're definitely mediums. and it is clearly seen that one of them lost. To whose doll they belong to is still a question.
On another side they might not be mediums at all, since Shinku was just narrating the Alice Game to Hina in ep2 S1.

It's really questioning why the Alice game has still not ended before, and why the dolls have gone back to sleep. In ep6 S2 it is clear that Shinku and Suigintou were fighting sometime around WW2 or 1. And surely enough Bara/Kira has never participated in previous games.
And also, all the other 6 dolls knew each other before Jun.

I remembered reading that some alchemists believe that a living being can be animated from clay, though I always thought that will mean making a golem.
Remember that the drive that caused the alchemists to discover so many chemicals that we know of today (thus making them the forefathers of modern chemistry) is their obssession of creating a Philosopher's Stone, the perfect element, which can turn lead into the most valuable metal of that time, gold, and to produce elixir of life that can create immortality.
And Rozen probably made the Rozen Maiden during the time where the alchemy craze is still alive and well. What if he knew an alchemist who can make a non-living object come to live? What if the same alchemist already succeeded in making the stone (thus the longevity), and what if Rozen IS the alchemist?
So many possibilities, which I know can never be answered satisfactorily.
Still, forget the alchemy and stuff. Yes, mediums will have to die, this I know. What I would want to know is what will happen to the dolls' current mediums if one of them become Alice? Will they still stay in touch, or will Alice just go back to the N-field and never return?
And there is an enigma regarding the N-field. How did the N-field come about in the first place? How did the link between dream worlds and the N-field come about? And if N-field is a collection of dream worlds, how did it produce its physical manifestation? And how did some objects become a doorway to the N-field?

so it seems at various times some of the dolls were awake in the past and they had interactions.
obviously shinku and suiginto were fighting anyway, but it seems the other dolls did not have any type of battles till recently.

And the other dolls did not fight because Gin-sama is pestering Shinku and not the other dolls. And since Gin-sama did not pester them, why fight?
And we always know Gin-sama always wanted to turn Shinku into junk, which is understandable, for she is the closest to perfection.

i think it might also be that she feels rozen had more love for shinku even though suiginto was the older sister and was never completed. but i think she realized why she was never completed after meeting her medium in the second season.

Agreed. I'm more used to see Rozen Maidens as dolls rather than people. And only four of the dolls had melee weapons, namely Barasuishou, Shinku, Suigintou and Souseiseki, so the rest might not be fit for Soul Calibur.
