Let's continue to babble about how grateful episode 12 is. (Ah, the amusement of give me 5 screenshot)

Uh.....I mean wow, episode 12 was great.

While I wanted to see more of Chrono showing his true powers, I guess we won't be seeing that, unless Nanoha A's becomes a smash hit and bring out a season 3 lol. But, I love the Mahou Shoujo Hayate, I still think she has the biggest staff in normal mode. Oh yeah, was it me, or Veeta got Nanoha's name right :heh:

Episode 12:

The final boss battle was actually a complete beatdown. Facing a whopping ten party members, poor monster never even got to attack once before it got hit by 3 ultimate attacks from Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate. Then it got sucked up into space and nuked by the Asura's main gun, many times more powerful than the previous combo attack. Ouch.

Oh, and I pray the admins can find the records of the thread. I'd hate to see that such an awesome show would end up with less than 20 pages just because of some lowlife hackers (burn in hell!).

I actually liked Episode 11 better 'cuz of Snow Rain, but Episode 12 definitely wins for

Mahou Shoujo Hayate and her change of hair colour.

Is Snow Rain the name of the insert song in 11? I vaguely remember hearing one, but it wasn't as prominent as Nana Mizuki's Brave Phoenix in ep 12. BTW, Brave Phoenix will be released in January as part of her Superior Generation album.

I liked episode 7, the mystery guy shows up again and interferes in not one but two encounters. Vita escapes and Fate gets her linker core stolen because of it. The preview for episode 8 also doesn't give much information about him. Not sure if it has been discussed before but for some reason I wonder if he's Chrono's father, Clyde. Must be because of the blue hair, and is about the only option other than a complete stranger, which wouldn't have as much impact when his identity is revealed.

Correct, and it's sung by Hayate's CV. ;D I thought it fit the animation really well in Ep11. Damn, MSLNAs is great.

That was one hell of a sweet beat-down. I had no real feeling of danger though. If they emphasized the need to do it quickly then that would've worked better. And Magical Girl Hayate is awesome and adorable!

So some of us were talking on IRC about which would've fit better. Extending season 2 to 26 episodes to allow deeper character developments and tackle some much wanted yet unadressed issues in greater depth or a season 3. I myself would prefer a season 3 as I find A's is great in 13 eps and 26 may be a bit too long.

The key problem with a season 3 IMO is The "travelling party" is just so huge now it'd never work unless they dropped some of them from the picture for a while. Of course the final ep could change this entirely.

And it's due to that large cast size that I'm gonna try and get a MUGEN squad together. I doubt it'll work out due to it needing programmers but I've succeeded in similar things before (my pet projects are at about 50% successfully started so that's a pretty good score)

Also, I too hope they find a way to bring back the old topic because there was a ton of really great stuff, both funny and insightful there.

Definitely a good point with having too many characters for a subsequent season, although I'm also of the mind that the next episode of A's will determine whom the transient characters will be. I hope that the Wolkenritter(sp) sacrifice themselves to save Hayate, and Hayate merges with LinForce(sp) and gets a permanent hair colour change!

Good point about the budget issue, Lemon. The visual effects in ep12 did soak up the cash, I'm sure. But that just makes me wanna see the DVD changes even more (hopes that lolipuni site will show the differences again)

Hmm I read somewhere (somebody's blog, probably) that the animation director/team for Ep12 was the same as the one for a previous ep where the characters looked similarly "cheap" and odd.

I think Nanoha works great as a 13-episoder as opposed to 26 episodes too. Hopefully there'll be a third season featuring more Hayate. Or even better, MAKE A SPINOFF FOR HAYATE-CHAN, MUAHAHAHA.:love: I would gladly watch Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Hayate :heh: .

I personally loved the fish-eye angles. Even though the director was probably copycatting Shinbo Akayuki. Don't forget despite the craptacular drawings, the actual combat animation was excellent. I sure hope his career flourishes. I am serious as can be.

This is the best damn mecha combat action show I have ever seen.

I love how episode 12 went over all. It's nice to see all of them gang up and beat the final boss. Even through I felt sorry for it having no turn. Hayate's magical girl entrance was cool and dramatic. She had an authority figure feel to her as well.

Unless something really stupid happens in episode 13 this will definitely be one of the best series I've seen. Then again I wanted to watch this series because I loved the original. So go figure. Still out of the new characters I especially love Vita and Hayate. I also like the fact the show didn't wait until the last second to develop the antagonists. Early on they present the Cloud Knights as actually characters. A refreshing change of pace in my view.

Despite how much this series has rocked, I just have a few criticisms, mainly regarding the old characters.

The show is titled Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's, but Nanoha herself did not appear to change or grow over the course of this series. In the first show we got to see her deal with the changes that come about with suddenly gaining magical powers, but in this season she was pretty much a static character. We didn't exactly find out anything new, nor did she grow as a person.
Fate got slightly more attention. We got to see her discomfort around Lindy, and then in episode 11 we learned a whole lot, and she moved on from her past. However, we didn't exactly get to see anything special about her relationship with Nanoha. It just felt like the two were copies of each other, and neither ended up doing anything that was not mirrored by the other.
Arf and Yuuno were almost completely useless, being even more alike in their roles than Nanoha and Fate. Yuuno didn't get to kick ass or do anything special, and Arf got shafted out of her fight scenes with Zafira.
As for Chrono, Lindy, and Amy, no complaints. They didn't gain or lose anymore attention than they got in season 1.

If there is a season 3, then I hope that they focus more on Nanoha. She is the title character, after all.

When did Yuuno ever kick any ass? He binds things. That's what he does. Not counting the very start of episode 1 of season 1 of course. I mean, I like the guy but I'm actually pretty sure Nanoha could do fine in a fight even without him.

That asside, your other complains are fairly valid. It's one of the factors that spawned the "13 or 26 episodes" discussion.


Perhaps it was the support team's innitial casting of "Monster looses one round of combat" that lead to the final boss not getting it's turn. You know, it's like if you successfully put the Troll to sleep in Dragonwarrior 3, his days of evil are over.

Well to be honest one of the hardest things to do with a second season is to give the new characters proper focus without ignoring the old characters completely. Still maybe it would have worked out better as 26 episodes. Heck I can think of quite a few series that should be 26 episodes instead of 13, but that's another story.

That said, I did notice Nanoha seems a little "out of the loop" with the main focus of the story, which made me a little sad, but given that there are simply so many characters grasping for time, it isn't all that surprising. I'm all for a 3rd season!

I think the focus has been divided pretty well. There are many new characters, and it's obvious the intention is for the viewers to like them. Thus, rightfully, they received a lot of screen time for development. Nanoha didn't grow much, which is true, but basically she's already done her development and stayed true to her character (unlike say Kira in GS and GSD). Yes she is the main character, but so is Usagi Tsukino in Sailormoon and she stopped developing in Season 1 :p . As for Fate, well, without giving spoilers, I would say she got some nice development. In the end, we got an awesome series (one of my all-time favorite barring something wacky happending in the last episode), and the fans basically love all the characters! Which I would think is truly hard to accomplish.

A 3rd season would be nice. Too many characters? Well, just make it a Mahou Shoujo tourament battle. ;)

And a fighting game is absolutely necessary!

I expected they would ATLEAST give Chrono HALF AN EPISODE to look out of Asura's window and make a refelct on his past. And...please, just another FIVE COOL MINUTES for a serious battle between him and the Masked man (which actually...well, you know that) Not to mention how much I wish to know about Yuuno's past, and yes, see him in more action. He did pretty well in EP2, managing to block+dodge all Vita's attacks while maintaining the protection shield for Nanoha and deal with the magic cage. Actually, I was hoping to see his combination spell with Shamal TTwTT
Really, If they would just focus more on Chrono and Yuuno (as well as giving Yuuno more "manly" look), I'm pretty sure this show would easily finds its way in attracting fangirls as well.
(Umm...don't get me wrong. I am not saying they should make it ChronoxYuuno which is just too eerie =w=ili)

Anyway, one of my friend has proposed an idea for "Mahou Kenkaku Symphonic Kyouya" (Magical Swordsman Symphonic Kyouya) XD.

Since everyone here is too obsessed with the raws and inconsiderate of those watching only the fansubs, I guess I'll have to answer -- this is sort of explained in episode 8 (which will be released soon), but she does know the Book's name as of episode 6 which flashbacked to when the guardian knights first appeared before her and stuff. I don't know why she's more freaked out by it, but the knights did promise that they wouldn't do anything bad with it and just live peacefully together with her also as said in episode 6, which is probably why she's not too frightened or scared of what it can do. She knows it can hurt people, but if its not used that way (which she thinks right now), there's not much to worry about.

I was actually wondering this myself. I've been to a lot of various series boards (don't always post) and there's always been people who watch the raws but for some reason this series seems to have far more people like that. I wonder why that is.

I always try to cover up my spoilers, be vauge with them or outright lie to be misleading, but I greatly apologize if something slipped through.

I don't really mind since I also watch it weekly, since well, I translate it, but I feel kind of bad for those who want to talk about it on the thread from just seeing the fansubs, without the raws. Most people use spoiler tags the majority of the time, but sometimes things still slip like the revelation in episode 10 for example.

I'm not sure that they can't just have Hayate and co. live Happily Ever After, while the story focuses on Nanoha and Fate. (Or heck, a spinoff (again) for Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Hayate.)

This would even allow for some great reappearance moments (Nanoha and Fate are fighting some new enemy and losing badly, when suddenly! Out of the sky! The Wolkenritter arrive to save the day! Or something), albeit probably not in episode one like Fate and Yuuno did.

Well since the Wolkenritter are only doing there stuff for hayte to be save, if hayte comes save, and her life isnt threatened anymore, wouldent the Wolkenritter not need to continue in there mission to fill the book for her? (correct me if i have something wrong) and then disappear for awhile, For those you watched Sailor moon, the outers appeared for one season, and then, for the next season that did not appears, maybe that could be the same for Nanoha, and the focus might go back onto the Fate and Nanoha, and if they get into trouble, and needs some help, out of the blue the Wolkenritters would come and make the scene, and save them, maybe around the end of te 3rd season if there is one, and all of them again help defeat and such who ever is causing the mess...yah. thats all my opnion though haha ^^;

Heh, I wonder who....me, I'm so busy I've not the time to look back and try to remember what happened lol. And I'm not the spoiling type either....mind you I am very well considerate of those who watch fansubs, I actually encouraged others to not be phased by "being late" to watch, so to say...

Maybe the lack of speedy releases lessen's ones ability to contribute....

Heh, I wonder who....me, I'm so busy I've not the time to look back and try to remember what happened lol. And I'm not the spoiling type either....mind you I am very well considerate of those who watch fansubs, I actually encouraged others to not be phased by "being late" to watch, so to say...

Maybe the lack of speedy releases lessen's ones ability to contribute....

Despite how much this series has rocked, I just have a few criticisms, mainly regarding the old characters.

The show is titled Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's, but Nanoha herself did not appear to change or grow over the course of this series. In the first show we got to see her deal with the changes that come about with suddenly gaining magical powers, but in this season she was pretty much a static character. We didn't exactly find out anything new, nor did she grow as a person.
Fate got slightly more attention. We got to see her discomfort around Lindy, and then in episode 11 we learned a whole lot, and she moved on from her past. However, we didn't exactly get to see anything special about her relationship with Nanoha. It just felt like the two were copies of each other, and neither ended up doing anything that was not mirrored by the other.
Arf and Yuuno were almost completely useless, being even more alike in their roles than Nanoha and Fate. Yuuno didn't get to kick ass or do anything special, and Arf got shafted out of her fight scenes with Zafira.
As for Chrono, Lindy, and Amy, no complaints. They didn't gain or lose anymore attention than they got in season 1.

If there is a season 3, then I hope that they focus more on Nanoha. She is the title character, after all.

Lemon, I'd help you out but I've got tons and tons of other project on the go. Put my name down as a `maybe'. I think my Nanoha-fu is pretty strong. It'd be better if it were a collaboration effort anyway.

As for Mahou Shounen Chrono, it'd be cool if it were one of those mecha series where the fights are sometimes inside mecha and sometimes outside. Misami Oobari could do the mecha designs and we already know Nana Mizuki can sing a mecha-style intro song.

I'm also waiting for Nanoha to ask her dad, sis and brother to teach her to fight better. She kicks 10 different types of ass already. Imagine what she could do if you added "kendo master" to her list of skills. Or better yet, Fate does it:) I'd like to see Fate and Shiro have a sparring match.

But I like the Chrono idea, but only if its a comedy, and there should be a prerequisite scene of Amy denying him his juice every week. You can substitute that with scenes of Amy rubbing melons or Chrono combing Amy's messy hair, or the catgirls chowing down on Chrono. There's no justice in this world, otherwise.

a few things that also buged me in the second season, was the thick lines they used alot, it made the art look blah, that and teh grren tone they used most of the time in the backgrounds, it reminded me of polution and sludge

Lemon prefers the first Season over the second season, it was cleaner, moved smoother, didnt seemed as rushed, and i liked the story a bit more.

I like how they kept older Nanoha looking like she does in the game. And Fairy Reinforce (Sorry, forgive the Langrisser spelling of the name until Triad subs it) is so cute! The progression of the episode is pretty much flawless IMO. I also like how the wolken didn't age. Proving that she show must maintain at least one loli at any given time.

I also really dug the look on Nanoha's sister's face when Lindy was explaining things. While everyone else was just listening intently like "Ah. Well we knew something was up."

I see no reason why there can't be more Nanoha. Jumping ahead six years just assures that nobody dies. Or if they do, they come back somehow. It also raises many other options. Since they all kept their weapons they may pick up a new series right from there. They may make it a hentai show. They may do the in-between stuff. They may do Star Trek: Ashura, to boldly go where no magical girl has gone before.

The differance I meant was
With that 6 years later scene, that really shows that the young Nanoha arc is over, and on to the grown girl. Now I so want to see a Teen Nanoha transform and all that :heh: but, I guess it's safe to say this is the last that I'll get to see young Nanoha, in all her Kawaiiness and all. And, I'm still freeked at Chrono's voice change, I mean, that's a big jump lol. But I was really glad to see Amy with a ribbon on her head, heh wonder where she got it from... o_o does this mean Amy's trying to hit on the captain :heh:

I can only guess what is in store for this wonderful series.

Now this is great final episode. First because they dedicated the entire episode to the epilogue by finishing the battle in 12. Now besides that. We get see the girls older. Well for the most part. Since Vita for example doesn't seem to have aged. Still it's nice how well things turned out. I still think one of the best aspects of the series was Fate gaining Lindy as a mother. Also I love Hayate's intelligence device. It's so cute.

Over all this was a wonderful final episode. If they make a third season I'll be ready to watch it. The key word being if. For now I'll be happy with we got. Heck I wasn't expecting the second season until the news came up. So go figure.

Actually as it currently stands, I now like to think of Nanoha as a full 26 episode series with the classic change of focus and time jump around episode 14. So for it's not so much that the ending in As surpassed the ending in the original. It's that now I think of the original ending as a major event in the series instead. Okay so maybe I'm crazy for thinking that way.

I feel the same way too. It's like with Stelvia or when something like Kenshin or Shana changes their villain.

I do similar with some OAVs. Stuff like Read or Die or Petite Cossette, I pitch them to some of my friends as movies and show them as such. For certain types of people that's just an easier way to accept and watch it.

I'm gonna have to custom-make a box to hold all the DVDs now:( Thanks to japanese DVDs that'll be a very big box (10 discs, likely. 13 if I plan to include the Triangle Hearts stuff). I really wish I could buy slim DVD-sized cases around here. I'l just reprint the covers with the spine shrunk and transfer them all over.

Hayate wasn't half as young-looking as Child Valkyrie in UFO Princess so I see it as not quite as "sending me to hell" as that, and she's about on-par apparent-age-wise with Chihaya from Magical Canon and that didn't send me to hell. Besides, Reinforce is hot so what can we say? I mean, check that behind! It's a good thing she can fly because I'd be wanting to check her out from every angle! Tho I only saw Valkyrie's transformation so much because they threw it in your face 1000 times. Same with the Magical Kanon one.

But come to think of it, has anyone seen the end of the non-H Magical Canon series?
I'm not thinking it's a rip-off as the designs are both solid but do you think evil Carmine was an influence in Reinforce's design?

That said, I can say this now without spoiler tags. I blame the catgirls for that one. They hurt my poor Hayate and caused Nanoha and Fate undue stress! Sure, they didn't really mean much harm but a strong soldier denies orders when they're obviously wrong!




A friend of mine also said Yuuno looked like an artist in the end, and in turn said Nanoha and A's were a biography anime made by him! I laughed till I stopped it was such a hilarious idea. That would mean he plugged in all that fanservice himself. hehehehe.

Well, that was an enjoyable series, much like the original.

Of course, being the foolish sort of person that I am, I'm not usually the sort that comes onto message boards, as I tend to end up a laughingstock in some way or another, but silly me ended up inspired after episode 12, and felt reinforcement after watching the ending.

Reinforce having to go away was sad, especially after Hayate's crying scene.
Nanoha's sister looked HELLUVA shocked when the secret was being revealed, I find it funny that the rest of the family had a straight face.

All of our favourite Mahou Shoujo are filling out nicely in the right areas ^_^
Lindy now looks...Middle aged, but I suppose that cant be helped
Chrono grown up sounded a bit odd, especially when Yuuno's voice seemed to be the same.
The Wolkenritter seem not to have aged, I suppose that is an advantage to being a program.
Hayate's Linker Core looks like it has fully recovered, or is close to, at least she can use her legs, though she seemed to have a little trouble getting up.

Nanoha is the best series in 2005 imo. It is so sad that it ended so fast. Even though I was happy to see the grown up verison of Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate, it significantly reduce the chance there would be a 3rd season.


The ending songs show what happen six years after the Linforce event.

Nanoha becomes 3rd year student at Sai-Yan University attached middle school.
She is also the special combat techniques instructor for Space-time Admininstration armed force.

Fate becomes 3rd year student at Sai-Yan University attached middle school.
She is the first class armed officer for Space-time Administration, and active at the first line of defense along with Arf.

Hayate becomes 3rd year student at Sai-Yan University attached middle school.
She is the special investigation officer for Space-time Administration. She is supported by her four Wolkenritter Knights in search of anicent civilizations technologies. Currently Hayate lives on Earth along with her four knights, whom has not aged one bit in the last six years. Vita remains her Kawaii self along with mini Zafira.

Chrono attains the rank of General at the Space-Time Adminstration, and assume the command of Asuna.

Amy attains the rank of Commander of Operation aboard Asuna, and works closely with Chrono.

Lindy retires from the command of Asuna. However, she still retains her rank of General and works at the Space Time Administration Headquarter. Lindy also becomes a full time mom for kawaii Fate-chan. It seems the temporary HQ on Earth becomes their new residence.

Yuuno becomes the head librian at the Space-time Adiminstration Infinite Library. He also becomes an accomplish scholar by publishing many papers on anicent civilizations. Yuuno still has the hot for Nanoha, but fail to make much progress in the last six years. However, with his new Bishi appearance, he would win many girls' heart.

Graham the former General-in-command retires from the Space-time administration and currently lives in England with his two beautiful familiars. IMO he looks like he is enjoying his retirement with two girls who would be happy to do anything for him. He is also glad Hayate is living happily with the Wolkenritter Knights, and remains in contact.



Since this is Christmas, I sincerely wish there will be 3rd season of Nanoha. There is so much materials to work with, and I just can't get enough of Nanoha, Fate, and kwaii Hayate.

The Nanoha franchaise and fanbase is strong enough to warrant a sequal anyway, which makes season 3 logically plausable to tackle. Age shouldn't be a matter as Triangle Heart's protagonists are about the same age as Nanoha by the A's epsilogue (the large cast is another matter)

There's alot of things from Nanoha universe that can be developed more... such as interests with Alhazad, civilian friends of Nanoha uninvolved directly thus far, other organizations or elements inside the Time-space administration. The setting and backstory to Nanoha does allow for a deep story to evolve (copying space animes or Triangle Heart action).

Nanoha has overstepped many axioms of Mahou Shoujo genre. I would not be surprised if the teenage Nanoha team comes back for more action. I think that even Ion Cannon vs. Starlight Breaker might happen at that point.

Whatever it is, I want more Nanoha! (Ahh! It's the white demon!)

I never thought I'd say this, but I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Season 3 set after the "six years later". I mean, sure, Nanoha and co. won't be the moe~ cute little girls anymore, but damn they look good. And maybe we can have more character interaction and growth, along with exploration of the series background. (Then again, that may be shading a bit too much into shoujo...)

Overall I'd say I enjoyed this season a bit more than the previous one. The Wolkenritter were awesome (especially Signum), and the battle scenes were great. Which does make me think that they blew all the production funding on those scenes, because a lot of the other animation sucked, hard. Like the first season, from a near-flawless first episode, the animation went downhill, bottoming out at around episode six, and then going back up (but not quite reaching the standards of the first ep).

If they do make a Season 3, hopefully they address this issue.

I think we can, without doubt say that Nanoha has redefined Mahou Shoujo for this decade and we hope for even greater things to come along this path.

A scary thought: Nanoha season 3 with KEY/VISUAL ARTS rendition.

Actually another possibility for season 3 could be a school romance/comedy series like School Rumble. Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, Suzuka, and Arisa are the band of beautiful girls in class 3-C. Chrono and Yuuno transfer in and become the most eligible guys in class. The plot will revolve around the love love relationship among all the characters with Nanoha's heart as the ultimate prize.

Yuuno <-> Nanoha
Fate <-> Nanoha, and Signum

Someone should make a Nanoha doujin cel-shaded fighting game. That would probably be the easiest. Or better yet, a Nonoha party-based RPG with two storylines. Collect Jewel Seeds either for the Time Administration Bureau or collect Linker Cores for the Book of Darkness. One can use the stat system suggested by Saedin_Casora, though I am unfamiliar with text or card based RPGs. (In fact, I really have no frikin clue what's going on in that forum) I would hope a battle system such as Grandia I / II can be used.

By "key character template" do you mean the art style or the design style for the characters/world? I dunno. To me Nanoha characters need massive waves of bangs that change sides inappropriately to how they're facing. Taking that away would be like having the Godannar guy do a loli anime.

That asside, I'm constantly infuriated that the marketing potential for this series is so massive and yet they make nothing but event-only items.

Apart from the animayhem stuff, one of my other pet projects involves altering the guilty gear x2 sprite sets for Nanoha Mugen, as mentioned before. But truthfully cel shaded would be far better. Sprites are a pain and I really suck at it. Altering Rozen Mugen would be far easier but that game sadly really sucked. Too bad Imaterial and Missing Power or Melty Blood aren't easily altered. IaMP's system would work great with Nanoha due to it's complex dodge-and-weave gameplay.

I mentioned it in the s1 topic but I had a dream that there was a Nanoha game played on some unknown console (the controller looked like a PS2 one only with six shoulder buttons and I think only one analogue stick. too long ago to remember) and it had the most amazing graphics ever, played like a faster-paced Z.O.E. and had an all-original story. It was a happy dream. But sadly it was one of those "can't see the screen but just know it's awesome" dreams.


As for a 3rd season, I'd like to see it follow both timelines, jumping back and forth between past events (elementary) and current events (highschool/almost highschool), somehow weaving together the mysterious event that caused some big major problem to sprout up. I think that'd be a Nanoha-esque story. They always do pretty good with the misdirections and plot twists.

Let's see... grade three.... six years later.... Grade 9. Is that highschool level in Japan? Here in New Brunswick, Canada it was still juniour high up until a few years ago when they made grade 9 highschool (and much bullying ensued).

I'll also go for Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie, all done in that hyper animation we see in the first episode of the first season.

But do you think we, the veiwers are the same as the last 2 years? Certaintly not, and imagine, making this series go on and on, with the characters growing alongside us, the veiwers. Well the existence of a second masked man explains how both Nanoha and Fate could have been attacked only 8 minutes apart.

I suspect that these two people are probably responsible for the Book of Darkness escaping from its confinement 12 years ago and Chrono's dad being killed. It is also possible that they have something to do with the reason why the lost logia was changed into the Book of Darkness in the first place.

I will be waiting for the next few episodes with trembling eagerness.

That's exactly what I was thinking, about the reason why they impersonated Nanoha and Fate, a pretty wicked thing to do. It's pretty obvious what Hayate was thinking at that moment. However, weren't their voices slightly different? But I suppose she wouldn't notice that at a time like that. As for what's going to happen next, I'm hoping the remainder of the knights will somehow get through to her and make her realize what her true wish is (something like continue living her life with them, and getting cured). It isn't possible for them to go for Nanoha and Fate again. Remember it was said in an earlier episode that once you've been targetted, the book cannot target you again, so both of them are now immune to its effects.

That's not what I meant, I never said it was to get their linker core. I already know they couldn't be used to fill the book again. But the wolkenritter couldn't let them go this time, and I thought the mystery guy(s) would help get them out of the way. Instead they cast a bind on everyone there, extracted the knights' cores, and impersonated Nanoha and Fate to manipulate Hayate into going on the destructive path. Not at all what I expected when I first saw them show up again in ep9.

You know, re-watching this show subbed over the holidays (as far as Triad's gotten) has given me a totally newfound appreciation for their plot twists. I mean, really. There's what? I counted 9 large unexpected events, as opposed to most other series I've watched this year having a big goose egg.

Truly, Nanoha is a show for plot twists.

Now, in regards to technical design

If they make a season 3 and the girls are teens, what does everyone expect of the costume and weapon designs? I personally would like to see some more changes. The barrier jacket changes for A's were small but well-fitted. I'd also like to see their intelligent devices start out looking just a little different, even from how they did after the cartridges were installed. Also, I don't remember but did Hayate have cartridges?

Nanoha's absolutely wonderful in that way. The amount of speculation on what's to happen next when ep 9 first came out was estatic. Every blogger's and raw follower's got an assumption during the time. Not alot of anime during '05 did that.

About the plot twists, though...Was anyone really wondering what was gonna happen in the end since the first appearance of the masked guy? And then when the Cloud Knights were revealed to be trying to help Hayate? It might turn out to be a formulaic "we fight each other pointlessly for most of the season, then join together to fight the 3rd enemy at the end" type of deal. But it's still up in the air.

Though the first season had a simpler plot, I thought it was pretty compelling, because you really didn't know if Fate was gonna give up on her mom or not.

In spite of all that, the recent developments with the Christmas Eve meeting was really cool and unpredicted. Vita seems like she might be the a character with an inner conflict, as she seemed really affected by the christmas visit with Nanoha&co. Maybe she'll be the first to work together with them.

Well episode 10 sure had some more unexpected surprises in store, the twin baddies turn out to be admiral Graham's familiars in an attempt to trap Hayate and the Book of Darkness in limbo. Perhaps I could've made the connection when we found out there were two of them, but still, I wouldn't have expected those familiars to be that powerful. One thing that ticked me off about their plot is how they seemingly were ready to sacrifice Nanoha and Fate to achieve their results aswell. I'm sure those two won't be too pleased with him when they find out.

The other surprise was Arisa and Suzuka showing up. Aside from them finding out about the magical girl secret which definately spices things up, I can't help but wonder how they got there in the first place? The area was completely deserted, except for them. They are connected to Nanoha/Fate aswell as Hayate, I suppose that has something to do with it. The magical barrier thing brings me to another matter though, which I hadn't taken note of before, since it was never as evident as in this episode. What exactly is going on within that magical barrier, why are the people gone and where did they go, and wouldn't there be alot of unexplained damage to the buildings etc in the area after the fight was over?

Now as for speculation about episode 11+, I wonder if Hayate/Book-san has any idea she could have also obliterated Arisa and Suzuka in that attack, and perhaps that might be a way to get through to her. Book-san unfortunately has a one track mind, fulfilling that destructive wish, rather than looking past the anger of that moment and thinking about Hayate's real wish which I assume is continueing to live with the Knights. If Book-san wasn't focussing on one thing so much, she would realize the Knights are a part of her and she could easily recreate them. I suppose this might happen in the end though, once Nanoha (from the outside) and Fate (from the inside) get through to her.

I can understand that point, although he didn't mention that little tidbit in his explanation and made it seem like the only unfortunate casualty would be Hayate. If that was considered illegal, then putting Nanoha's and Fate's lives on the line might be aswell. Also, there could have been another way to achieve the same result. Or they could at least make some sacrifices of their own, rather than involve others without their knowledge. I wonder what would have happened if there had been no further manipulation and the book was completed without Hayate having such a destructive wish. Nanoha and Fate were worried that the book would still consume her, at the very least.

For ep.11-13

Well I just finished watching the raws for ep11-13. While this ends as one of my favorite shows of 2005, I was slightly disappointed in the predictability of the overall plot. It was essentially the same overall idea as Season 1.

When I first started watching this, I thought it would basically end up like this. The knights were misguidedly trying to fill the book of darkness to save Hayate (Fate wanted to help her Mom). And that in the end they would join the forces of "good" and fight against the book (just as Fate helped Nanoha in the end). Hayate also would somehow play a pivitol role in defeating it.

Oh sure, there were a few small plot twists that I didn't expect such as the twins being the masked man and Graham being behind them. I had thought it would somehow be Chrono's "dead" father (which would have made a more interesting twist).

But still, it was a fun ride. They did the only thing they could do to improve on the great magical girl battles between Fate and Nanoha by increasing the numbers so the sky was full of magical girls fighting. And that was fine by me.

I do feel sorry for all the lolicons watching episode 13. It's all over for them and its starting to get good for the rest of us (Nanoha, move that pony tail to the center. All that weight on one side will make your head permanently lean to one side). Hopefully we will get a season 3. Though I'm guessing that their battle armor/costumes will have changed due to them growing up. Otherwise we'll get what happened in Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo to Ureshiko. Though, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Wait, I think the two familiars were banking on the hope (around 6:00 of the ep.) that the two (Nanoha and Fate) would survive before Book of Darkness goes out of control, in which the familiars would then freeze it and put it in limbo. Nanoha and Fate would still be alive using Graham's plan, if they survive that is.

And...

Teen Hayate still looks cute, but for teen Fate and teen Nanoha... err... let's just say their designs are a bit off from what I expected.

In another online community I check they had a "main character battle" for series that are currently being fansubbed. Anyhow, through corrupt politics (basically votes by popular members ended up swaying opinions) Nanoha beat out everyone. And then suddenly the place exploded with Nanoha fandom and from what I can tell at least ten more Nanoha fans were born from it.

So I guess fans do advertise the underdogs pretty well:)

In other news, I was playing a testrun of my Nanoha Ani-Mayhem deck last week (it needs some serious editing) vs. a friend of mine's all-series deck (it's just a mishmash of whatever random screenshots gave him ideas)

Anyhow, it ended in an interresting scenario. You guys ever see Galaxy Fraulein Yuna? If not you might not get this. Also note that it's always good to imagine these events playing out as though they were in an anime. Basically he had a card that brought all his characters (from his hand, deck and field) to one location with one piece of equipment each (might sound broken but the disasters required stuff like this. Plus the card must be used in conjunction to Yuna and numerous other rules apply). Now, I played a card that makes it so Player vs. Player fights must be fought with the same number of people. So at this one site was Nanoha rallying her troops and Yuna rallying her's. The two armies stared each other down and then there was a massive rumble which ended in everyone but Nanoha and Yuna getting totally smoked. Then as the two leaders were about to square off I blocked his Combat Card with an effect and drew my own. "New Friend": No damage is dealt this combat round. Combat ends and the cards in this battle can no longer fight one another.

Quite poetic how it happened, really.

So anyhow, back on track, in Season 3 here are some things I wanna see that they likely won't do.

1) Nanoha's first kiss
2) Yuuno gets an inteligent device
3) Another primary character appears. A mage. The trick is: It's a guy.

And totally out of character for the show as presented so far...... this is just wishful thinking and some teasing from the animators. I guess its impossible to be good friends with someone of the same sex anymore..... I get odd looks when I go do stuff with my 20 yr old son, good grief....

Nanoha and Fate might turn out hetero-, homo-, or bi- but they're perfectly normal and unless it is *really* relevant to the show ... I'd guess all you'll see is handholding, hugs, or a kiss --- R-15 stuff very unlikely.

Well things didn't quite turned out like I expected (from the preview I was thinking Fate would help Hayate snap out of it while in the dream world), but it seems Hayate never succumbed to getting pulled into a dream world at all and manages to change the core of the 'book' on her own. Was expecting her to emerge right after that, but perhaps they're saving that for the next episode. Meanwhile, Fate woke up in a dream world but quickly realised that none of it was real, and it would have been too painful to stay there. Also, she's already finding happiness in the real world with new friends and a new 'mother' that she wouldn't give up on, so she breaks out of the dream world. Not sure if that was completely on her own, or if it also had to do with what was happening with Hayate and what Nanoha was doing. Next episode seems to become an all out fight with the book's defense program going berserk, also with Chrono this time and possibly Hayate helping out.

Well episode 11 and 12 are out and Wow! the second half of ep.12 it was on. I dont think I said it before so... in episode 9; that was the best transformation in the show so far, love! the black winged goth girl :love: :heh:

Towards the end of both episodes they had music (singing) in the BG and it was nice. But a shame that Chrono didn't get much action and the animation was pretty weak at times :( more so the way the characters were drawn was the letdown. oh! I have to Say... Vita's Hammer holy Crap :heh: when it transformed a little I was laughing at the shape, then Boom! the size :heh:

One last thing hayate, looked better much better without the extra transformation (the white hat & cape) bit. But still another transformation is always good :heh:

Season 3, if and when it's made, should definitely be in the future - it'd be interesting to see if their powers have evolved (Can you say Starlight Breaker Omega?), AND they'd all be around the age where romantic tension can play a role (as they'd be old enough to start thinking of that stuff). Although, it would then become a very different Nanoha - the first two seasons were relatively similar in theme and plot.

On another note, does anyone know if there are magazines or artbooks due out that feature Nanoha A's? The website has rather small images of the characters, and they don't even show Hayate's other outfit. It'd be nice if, say, Megami magazine had done a special on it...

There's already some rumor floating about on season 3. The published info thus far indicates that the production team debated on the topic although there's been no official confirmation to date. There is a picture floating on the net (appeared on 4Chan and subsequently other BBS) that shows a conceptual for Nanoha in Barrier Jacket at age 15 but the authenticity is arguable.

It has been said before that there's more than enough material to continue onward in Nanoha universe. Tohara had an extensive backstory comprised of Soundstages and the games mostly which Nanoha aludes to if not copy which can be used as well.

I actually agree to a poster's comment on 4Chan that the story might get even more engrossing. I read a synopsis of the novel for season 1 and it should've spanned 20ish eps by itself. Nanoha A's manga gave me some link to Tohara on the crossover character's backstory.... (such as Nanoha's past, a legacy to her father's bodyguard days and family martial art school, Alisa's intellegence which she as a ghost exhibits in Tohara as well as Suzuka's outstanding reflex, possible throwback to her family's Vampire heritage in Tohara ) which are loose ends. Given how A's concluded itself room in season 3 to exploit all those things are wide open.

FMA/Gundam w. magical girl? The newest rendition to Romance of 3 kingdoms or Suikoden? Who knows...


Now to go totally off tangent.

Ep11 in A's feels like a throwback to AIR ep6 with end of the Minagi arc in part to me somehow. The message and the event just kind of mirror each other... thank goodness the execution isn't the same.

Nah, not true, they could just want to give us something to keep us happy while waiting for the third season :D I try to be optimistic about it, Nanoha is one of the best series I've watched, besides the masterpiece Card Captor Sakura :love:

I could see a third season. But then, I'm used to trilogies. When you get down to it, plots always take a trilogy form. First they set up the workings of the universe and the state of mankind. Then they lay down the relationships, history and conflict, stabilizing everything. Finally, they turn that world upside down to see how much chaos the heroes can handle, and give them just a little more than that. That's why I often expect stories to be three- or four-parts.
Nanoha could have been just setting things up and creating the heroes for later, and, while A's didn't have the character development, there WAS some apparent work at fleshing out the relationships and motivations. They didn't change any, they just figured out why they were what they were. Given this, season three would probably be much darker. They can't keep the audience if the suspense doesn't skyrocket from here. Earth won't be all that's at stake, and the lines between good and evil will blur. At least a few of the characters' foundations, such as friends, family, and the government perhaps, will be taken away, destroyed, or set against them. Someone will die, and someone will probably turn. They really can't keep that many good guys at once.
If this happens, I doubt they'll keep the name "Lyrical Nanoha". It worked for a cute story about an eight-year-old, but they've used that up. Maybe a spinoff, or something close.
BTW, Someone asked about the teenage transformation. I'd be surprised if that was in the DVD. After all, unlike the first series, this one had few transform sequences, and there was no indecent exposure outside of those. Gone are the days when the viewpoint is designed to provide a view up a kid's skirt(see ep1 of first series). Good riddance.

I have to agree that this season did a good job on the ending unlike the first one. One thing I find funny is the time I spent watching this anime I kepted thinking to myself that Nanoha and Fate were teenage girls. It was only in certain episodes where they give you a change in size perspective that it hits me that they're very tiny kids. I have no trouble seeing another season of Nanoha if it comes out, which would talk about their adventures while being teenagers.

Good show, good ending. One thing that disappointed me a little was that we didn't actually get to hear any of the talks between Nanoha and her friends, and with her family. Could have been funny, was kinda counting on that actually. It was surprising how calm her parents were during that talk, perhaps a bit eerie even. Anyway, I still liked it, hope there's another season, whatever the time period. :)

By default, Nanoha's relationship with everyone are just very close friends. I doubt she even sees Yunno as a proper man since her first impression of him was a ferret. She asking Yunno to come over for New Year sounds more like a friend type of thing than a lets go on a date to temple thing.

A third season would be interesting, they certainly got enough Triangle Heart and Nanoha fans to support it. The only way it could turn bad is if they make a seed destiny *shutters* :sad:

I believe so, yes. (Going by fuzzy memory... they started at age 10 and ended at age 11 or so.) I'm not going into 20 Menso ni Onegai and such. I mean, it's CLAMP.

I'm personally not seeing any "serious romance" in this show either (despite my fervent fantasies). I'm not entirely certain of the exact definition for "serious romance", mind. Basically I don't think any of the characters have any romantic feelings that cannot be considered "puppy love" or some sort. Of course, there's really no evidence that it won't be (or grow into) a serious romance later, of course.

I totaly agree with your friend there. Except for Fate X Signum...no offence...Fate deserves someone better...it's just that everyone is already taken....so....there better be someone in the third series (if there's one) for Fate-chan...

Signum would work. She's loyal, honest, determined, and gets on well with Fate already (in a pseudo-macho 'we'll settle this another time' sort of manner). Really, if it wasn't for the 'current' age difference, I'd say they were pretty well matched. Now fast forward 6 years to the teenage version of Fate, and that age problem starts disappearing ;)
The real problem though... is that the Knights don't appear to age. Notice how Vita still looks like a 9 year old even in the 6 years later bit? Though I guess Hayate could change that if she really felt it necessary...

However, I'm still rooting for Nanoha x Fate... they just look really cute together, and cute counts for a lot.

Arf's only a few years old though... She's younger than Fate, isn't she (going by Sound Stage... 2 I think?) ? The Arf x Zaph pairing creeps me out because of this.

I"m not sure simple timespan works in these sorts of things (granted this is a fantasy we're dealing with). But Arf appeared basically "ready for operations" and clearly has the ability and decision making skills to qualify for a relationship.
I guess you could use that character on Star Trek: Voyager as a literary reference. The blonde whose people only live 7 years or so and are fully adult both mentally and physically by age 2. I don't remember the specifics.

If we can suspend our disbelief to allow for a fully mature foxy looking (:) ) lady to be summoned out of nothingness with full mental faculties and a pre-loaded "worldview decision matrix" ... we can allow for her to become entangled with someone else who understands the way she is.
