Finally, the forums are back up! It sucks that someone would hack into the site and the data was lost, but at least the site's back up....
It sucks we lost all the great dicussions over TSR...so I guess we'll just have to make new ones!
So here's an easy topic....What was your favorite moment in TSR and why? I'll eventally answer as well.....
so dive in ;)
Favorite moments in TSR have to be ep 12 when Tessa argues with vice captain Mardukas over Sagara's loyalty, and basically all of ep 13.
Full Metal Panic is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The characters are so breathtakingly realistic. I have never even seen anything that was so true to life. It's a shame this series is so underrated.
For me, the best parts are when Kaname cuts Sousuke's hair and then when Sousuke breaks his computer (both in ep. 6)
yes, episode 6 was pretty intense....I think my favorite part (although maybe favorite is not the right word) is when sousuke snaps and shoots u-know-who...all that emotionial intensity...

I agreed with everything said above and I also liked the last part, Arbalest's lambda driver was cool when that red vemon was holding Uruz 1 hostage ^^
Tessa confess love and loyalty for Sousuke was the best xD
Do you guys still want to have that FAQ sticky that I made?
yes the faq sticky was really helpful...

You still have it? Awesome. I think it would be great to have it back up, especially when new ppl come in...

1 of my favorite parts of TSR was when the abalest was fighting all of the venoms and when the abalest used that attack with the lamda driver on the red venom.
I just ended epi 13 ... the series is indeed great but last night i saw all Gits Second gig so i think this ruined TSR a little for me... i was still on that more serious cyberpunk world mood...

TSR was really great, it showed Sousuke's interest in Tessa and Chidori.. the competition is heating up :heh: I hope the next season would be aired in 2006 :D
That would be great, but most likely we'll have to wait another couple of years, which is good quality wise I guess. Unless, they just release a DVMC OVA, that might take a little less time.

Best part ever has to Gates. Anytime. Anywhere. Naked.
Who else in the wide world of over-the-top animated characters will you find someone as genuinely cruel and remorseless (while remaining hilariously kitten-molesting-assistant-drowning-Schubert-belchingly ridiculous) as Gates?
Personal highlight is him flinging Yu Fang's body briefly before the final battle. **Onee-chan!! Save me from the Creepily irresistable man-appeal of Gates-sama!!**
Villains can only dream of being as badass as he was.

Favorite part of TSR has to be in the last episode, When Sousuke relised that Chidori was alive it changed the the whole prospect of who was going to win. Of course you knew that Mithril would win but the way Full Metal Panic made it so complex so you would have doubts about Mithril winning it was fantastic! :D
Oh! There are so many!
When Sousuke helps Kaname to find out who was spying her (so funny).
Episode 6 the whole episode, especially the haircut scene. (love it!)
Episode 7, the Yu Lan (is that her name? I already forgot!) and Kaname's meeting and Sousuke conflict (Orders or Kaname)
Episode 8, the discussion between Sousuke and Tessa
Episode 9 and the meeting of Kaname and Leonard.
Episode 11, the conversation of Sousuke and the hooker.
Episode 13 when Kaname cries in Sousuke's chest (love it too!).
I think my favourite moment has to be the Chidori cutting Sousuke's hair part.
Not much word needs to be said. Everything is within there.

My favorite moment was in episode 2 when Gates shot the General and his own comrade. I was on the floor for 5 minutes.

Egads! You want us to choose? There's so many choice moments in there, especially with Gates being . . . psycho? Mentally unbalanced? In any case, out of all the anime villains I've seen lately, he's easily the funniest and best one out there. But my favorite of him has got to be the scene where he meets some other general, kills him, kills his comrade, and sings "Ave Maria" while his underlings kill the other guys. That one was a riot and had me laughing for ages.
As for combat scenes, the Mao vs. one of the twin sisters is easily one of my favorites. FMP has so many mecha vs mecha combat scenes that a very well animated 1v1 personal close combat sequence is a very welcome change . . . and between two very skilled females at that.
As for relationship drama . . . well, not much can top ep 6 with Kaname giving Sousuke the haircut and him punching out his laptop screen afterwards. I think that scene is one of the best I've seen illustrating the unstated feelings between the two.
That said, I'm crossing my fingers and toes hoping for more FMP!

Fumoffu is a very good follow up of the FMP comedy elements.
TSR is a good, nah, EXCELLENT follow up of the FMP drama/action/mecha elements.

Fumoffu really isn't a follow up. More of a series of OVAs with funny elements. Moreover, the seperate episodes aren't related to each other at all, so it can't be treated as a season, per-se.
TSR is what many FMP fans would consider the real 2nd season to FMP. Fumoffu is just a sideline "season" of funny stories.

True, but I think it's still important to watch it in order: FMP, Fumoffu, TSR

Well I just finished TSR and I was quite pleased with the exception of a confession-less ending on both party's parts. I was praying at the end of ep 13 that she would just say it or that Sousuke would blurt out something first but alas. In either case, the series has definitely lived up to its predecessors concerning plotline and animation. I look forward to a future series and the continuing novels.
The ending to TSR was a work of art, in my opinion - the final Combat Sequence especially, where after so much doubt, despair, and difficulty, Sousuke is able to eliminate his 3 enemies - the curse of Gauron, the 5 Venoms of Amalgam and the psychotic Gates, and last but not least, his own disillusion that he is just a pawn, a soldier without a home and without a family - that he has no right to live a normal life. Although this final victory was not really achieved in the eyes of the audience (at least not directly, since neither Sousuke nor Kaname really confess anything), it was still achieved in attitude and heart - both of them acknowledge the fact that each needs the other. If I were the director, I'd have them at least do something more, but nonetheless, it was a wonderful ending.
In either case, the series has definitely lived up to its predecessors concerning plotline and animation. I look forward to a future series and the continuing novels.
Lived up to its predecessors? No way! TSR surpassed them! The first season was average, Fumoffu was awesome, and TSR is simply priceless. Okay, I'm laying off the lofty praises. :heh:
Seriously though, it wouldn't be fitting to compare Fumoffu with TSR, but the latter did seem to have a bigger budget judging by how polished it looked. All I can say is, Kyoto Animation should be made officially in charge of all of FMP's anime adaptations from now on.
I agree, Kyoto Animation hasn't really screwed up yet....and although I can't pinpoint the reason why, the characters seem to look better in fumoffu and TSR than the first season.

Wow, read most of them and >no one< has pointed Tessa's surprised face when Sousuke calls her "Tessa" for the first time?
I had a smile on my face that went from ear to ear :D She's so lovely when she's happy like that.
And, one of those moments that simply put me to death was when Gates asks Sousuke "Who the hell are you?" and Sousuke rushes, telling him his school ID and stuff. At that time I was holding to my chair pretty tight.
There were just so many parts of TSR that I just wish I wouldn't have watched, so I could watch it again that, gah.
I think the part that made me hold on to my chair the most was when Gauron told Sousuke that Kaname is dead and he goes into a rage....
there is just something about angst that intrigues me....

My favourite parts in TSR:-
Many people have already said the hair cutting scene, which just OOZED emotions even tho very little was said,
next was ep 5, where Kurx get SOOO CLOSE (OMFG) too getting Mao! with that sweet talk too =D
Then of course the last episode!!
----------
I enjoyed these 13 epsiodes as Souske tells Tessa (but she is still gonna try) that his heart is for chidori, Gauron is finally dead!
AND Souske has finally made his peace with the ARX-7, TDD-1's SRT is gonna be on top for awhile!

I agree, Kyoto Animation hasn't really screwed up yet....and although I can't pinpoint the reason why, the characters seem to look better in fumoffu and TSR than the first season.
The subtle changes to the look of the series included a redesign of the eyes- at least on the characters with large eyes (Souske, Kaname, Tessa, Mao, Kurz, Kyoko and Shinji). It shows up particularly on Tessa, with her grey eyes and pale skin- the lines defining the eyelids are far thicker and dip more at the ends. Um, at least that's the impression I got. I've never sat and compared the two properly. (And longer eyelashes?) I can't really comment on Fumoffu, but that seemed to be the main difference between FMP and TSR. :) Oh, and the lock of hair at the centre of Tessa's fringe went to one solid point. I'm pretty sure it was broken up before.
Hm... best moments.
Episode Five: Kurz threatens to spill his love for the Goddess of Night
Episode Five: Mao's cry of "Rock and Roll!"
Episode Thirteen: The rainbow lights after Souske uses the Lambada driver, and the close up of the faces of Mithril (they all look shocked or serious except for Kurz, who looks like he juts wet himself for joy).
"Chido. Ri."
Leonard's smile as he steps forward with the umberella
Gates throttling his subordinate in a Victorian swimming costume
*~Pips~*

That is true, and it happens from time to time in the most inconvienient situations and could easily be mistaken of crying.

Thats seems reasonable and you notcie some "human" parts of the Arbalests AI when he and Sausuke have a little chat. He says things that are of quite human nature.

1. Mithril Agent
2. Assigned to protect Kaname Chidori.
3. Likes too play tricks on souske (final ep and laser dot =D )
Speculation- she is female but it could be just another full body suit and mask (her hair in the final episode looks a lot like Mao's in episode 5 (fake hair)).
Anyone got any more info, i dont mind spoilers,

For me, FMP as a whole picked up from the beginning of Fumoffu. I enjoyed a lot of the character development and it was comical. The first series started headstrong and I ignored a lot of the technical terms they used as I didn't really understand them until later in the anime. I felt like watching a bad version of Evangelion because I was a bit confused. The dialogue for the first series was laughable too. In fumoffu, the "Sagara is stupid" is over played, but it can also be over looked.
Anyways, TSR really fixed all the problems of the first series and turned out as everyone said, wonderfully. I actually just finished it this afternoon, so I guess I'm a late comer. The high point for me was when Tessa lectured Colonel Mardukas because as she was saying it, she didn't know how wrong she was because Sagara was about to have a total break down. However, everything was ok when chidori showed up, but the climax was definietly there.
Obviously, the story doesn't end... and I wished it would have ended too because long animes become bad animes. However, TSR left enough bait for many of us to look forward to the next installment (it better be soon!).
I have a few question though
Do you guys think it's an anime about love, or cool robots fighting? Or is the author trying to do a mix of it? Personally, I think full metal panic is fully a love story. The robots are just a theme that superficially skins the emotional significance of the story. For episode 13, all the enemies died pretty quickly without much trouble, it was sorta anti-dramatic if you think about it. But I felt satisfied because the love story took a huge step forward as both main female characters confessed their love in their own way. It's as though the author is jsut simply trying to tell us a story about a love triangle and that's it...
Also, I feel that the love triangle is not necessary anymore. I feel that it's getting too complicated and if the writers push it a bit more, I don't think they can recover the story and they would end up bs'ing the ending. Personally, I would like chidori to end up with sagara because a captain and a soldier is inappropriate and it seems sagara likes Tessa as a friend. I'm interested as to hear your perspectives.
The biggest problem I have with Full metal panic is Sagara and his behavior in civilian world... I have never seen a undercover soldier so not undercover... he brings weapons, bio-chemical gas, bombs... and yet school mates dismiss it as him being a war fanatic... and chidori gets mad at him when he's out fighting; I think chidori should know exactly what he's doing when he's not at school. But I guess I just have to suspend my disbelieve.
Sorry for the long post, I just thought the anime was very interesting, but I feel elfen lied was better as it was short and concise, and clear in plot and direction.

Hmm, i thought TSR was a lot more of a love story, but the first series was a mix of love and war, the story arc of getting the Nuke back, where all of souskes teammates died, hit me hard.
I like both sides, the action/fighting and the love story and i Think FMP throughout has portrayed them well, hopefully it will keep a good mix

The love triangle ends in the next chapter of the series after TSR, called "A Very Dancing Merry Christmas", or DVMC. Sousuke tells Tessa he chooses Kaname

Hmm, since the last TSR discussion thread was wiped out and it was a very interesting discussion, I would say it is more on character development rather than cool fight scenes.
Most people will disagree, but I think the cool robot scenes are just an added feature to give some sort of complexity to the story, it just happens that it was well done. Many were skeptical at first since this anime incorporated action, drama, sci-fi and comedy but the chemistry is just there. Some series have it and others don't.
I would honestly think that the love triangle is secondary, what really drew me to this series is character development. Also if you already read the latest release of boku tachi on COMO
Sousuke and Chidori already confessed their feelings to one another, verbally
I would suggest to those that just started to watch FMP to read up on the novels, so you will be able to point out how well thought of the anime is, you can compare the monologues of the novels and how they animated it masterfully.

haha...not really...that whole sequence with him was pretty weird!
Hehe, yeah im new here so this will both be a hello! and a comment.
(spolier of course..)SO DONT READ
This whole series has actually hit a nerve with me personally. I have alot of things in my past and present that i relate (like im sure quite a few do while they watch a series) to the anime/novels. Ill admit even though im a guy, im told im sometimes too sensitive for my own good, but my favorite part of the anime has to be the first 5 minutes of ep. 13. The guys are always portrayed as the knights in shining armor, the big tough ones who if they ever fail, life it over for everybody. But sousuke went through so much(without for the most part even being acknowledged for it) that the whole series seemed to be supporting the depressing idea of sousuke being the only thing keeping this whole group of people from failing, and just those huge weights that were dropped on his shoulders were something he would just have to lock away and pretend(like he has the whole series) that nothing was wrong or he would be making the wrong choice and causing the deaths of all his friends. But obviously the way it ended, he had somebody that he could rely on to save him(from himself) when nobody, even himself.. could do it. Yeah yeah.. rant. simply put, i like the first 5 minutes because it shows leaning on somebody everyonce in a while is ok, that and sousuke finally starts acting like the man you have seen in tight situations.

well my favorite part of tsr when sousuke use arbalest to destroy the enemy, when one of his team members was being held by the enemy. it was amazing how he used the lambda drive to only destroy the emeny. actually all the whole series was amazing, but i think that it should have been longer so i can enjoy it longer.
I haven't watch any FMP in about a year, but I'm currently enjoying this, just finished episode 9. I agree that episode 6 entirely good.
For me its ep6 vs ep9. The end sequence in episode 9 was very awesome. I'm not sure if it is just me, but the end felt like a scene out of Blade Runner. There's rain, neon lights all over the place, dark tone, strange micro-AS's, a few overcoats, and the music is very resemblant of the BR soundtrack. I haven't seen that movie in a while though.
About the Fumoffu series. I picked up the first Vol. of the FMP manga at the library and the story has events from the first series and Fumoffu together as the story goes along. Kinda interesting.
Wow TSR really blew me away. The first season left me lukewarm though I did see the potential. The cast is very "complete" in terms of details, and the story overall was very thought out. The second season was a nice entertainment but didn't really develop much in terms of storyline.
TSR however... hats off. I'm tempted to read the novels, but I'd rather watch it being animated, especially since it's so damn well done. I can wait a few years, as long as it does end up getting animated. From what I've read the overall story isn't complete even in the novels, and I really hope for an ending with full closure, both in text and in animated form.
There are many special moments in this season and most/all have been pointed out. It was really nice to see Kaname realizing/accepting her feelings so freely (definite love versus infactuation) and it was definitely fun to have Tessa declare hers on open line. What really blew me away though was Sousuke's humanism as Gauld (sp?) defined it. TSR really made him human.
I can't believe that I've let this season sit around for so long before I took a look.
Edit: Having read the facts about the novels, I'm not sure if there's enough content for a main story season, but there definitely seems to be enough content for another Fumoffu-like season. I hope they'll eventually get to that.
okey. the ending in FMP TSR was kinda unfinished... I want to know what happends between sousuke and chidori... is a movie or ova out that i dont know about ? :P

thats great i like tessa. hopefully it has some action in it with the arm slaves.
I've just seen the Tessa OVA and it does feature arm slave action.. if you can call it that way. ;)
It's a 30 min feature in the style of Fumoffu and doesn't develop the story, but it does happen after TSR, so chronologically it fits.
I think there isn't an annoucement yet on making a sequel to TSR.
There's enough source material out there in the form of the novels, though.
Just read the excellent info thread by kj1980.
Seeing as FMP is my favourite series, I guess I'm gonna be a bit biased. :p
TSR really does do things right. The series was shorter but the plot had a bit more depth and emotion. Sousuke does some serious character development and this was a great relief for me because I always thought he was an idiot. Allowing himself to do what he thinks is best and be able to use the Lambda Driver at will were my favourite moments. Kaname begins to come to terms with her feelings for Sousuke which I was glad to see because I want them to end up together as a couple.
The animation was even better than before, which is a tough thing to do, and the VA is top notch. I'll be saving my money for this very soon. :) Hopefully I'll be able to find the novels as well.
Here's hoping for another series. :D

hi everyone
i just recently received all 3 seasons of the FMP series from my friend and i must say that i was absolutely blown away (especially by TSR). the characters all had distinct personlities and interactions that made the show increidbly captivating. the music, sound, and voice acting also helped in this area. the middle to end of TSR was incredible well done and it was great to see the relationship between sousuke and kaname develop. i finished watching all of the episodes a few days ago...and i find myself extremely depressed at the fact that i have ran out of FMP...(i even watched the OVA and prologue to TSR). :(
but alas, this was one AMAZING series. nothing before FMP had me so engrossed in the story, art, and emotion. i, too, am eager for a next installment of the series :D

hey guys,i just finished watching TSR!!!!
I'm pretty pissed with the ending of this great anime. But don't get me wrong guys. This is a great anime. In fact, i love it!It's really anime at it's best. But what i am really pissed about is the ending.
I mean why can't Chidori Kaname or Sagara Sousuke confess their feelings for each other?!?!?!
The Last Scene goes like this.
Sagara:Say,When we were in Hong Kong, were you trying to say something? What was it?
Chidori:Ah,that...
Sagara:*looks at Kaname seriously*
Chidori:*turns and faces Sagara* and sez' Nothing at all(with a happy face then *holds the sleeve of sagara's uniform*)
Sagara:ah..
then screen goes black*meaning the End*
I paused for 10 seconds then I was like WTF WAS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!
DAMN COWARDS!
sigh..i really wish one of them (Sagara or Kaname) would confess their feelings for each other.
If not,i'll just grab Chidori from Sagara and i'll marry her!!:D lol something like that..:p
Well TSR isn't the end end. There are still more stories to go through.
What I really liked was that the relationship took another step in terms of progress, unlike many shows out there who have it in stasis until the last 5 minutes of the last episode...

**CONTAINS SPOILER ABOUT LAST EPISODE**
Last episode when she is about to hit Sousuke with her shoe.... Then she just starts to cry on his chest telling him that she was scared to death and so on... Sousuke almost comforts her with his arms when the annoying girls come and ask what's going on... That part always makes me mad. Why can't some people mind their own business?
As far as my comments for TSR, well, as you can tell by my avatar and the phrase on the top of my avatar, I am hooked! I'm so hooked that one day I will start my world travels in order to find someone similar to Chidori!!! Until then, rewatching FMP and hoping for another season will have to do.
Also, like most people have pointed out, the fact that Sousuke or Chidori never confess their love for each other irritates me. Sousuke is lucky to have found someone that likes him because as mentioned in previous episodes of FMP, the probability of a woman being out there that complements Sousuke is highly unlikely. I seem to be boring myself so I'll just leave it at that. Happy Reading.
Blame Shoji Gatou! ;)
Sosouke is written like a strained teenager who doesn't know what he has until he looses it.
Kaname is a girl that hides her heart behind an iron curtain in a similar fashion.
Confessing one's love makes one very vulnerable.. Especially with teenagers. ;)

To tell the truth, I'm glad they didn't in the first or second seasons, or the series would have gotten really old really quick.
I do wish they had at least accidentally kissed in some form before Leotard stole Kaname's first. That's why I like the manga more than the anime. :p

Hey, first post here. That aside...
I actually got into all this just over a week ago, and I've already watched all 3 seasons and cleared a few novels. I stayed away from anime after Robotech, and thankfully I was turned on to something that I could really relate to and enjoy. That said, I was really impressed with where TSR took things.
I would have to say one of my favorite parts was when Kaname was on the rooftop after her battle and everything finally sank in. She had gone through the past day or two finally seeing things through Sousuke's eyes - Everyone is a threat, people actually are out to harm/kill you, and there is a time when you can't hesitate to pull the trigger. It's one thing to be targeted and rely on someone's expertise to protect you, but in this scene she finally realized what it's like to have to be the protector, to live the way Sousuke lives every day of his life. Though he may do strange things and get irritating at times, now she fully realizes just why he does those things. ...maybe why the hit from the shoe never came in the end, and she broke down in front of him?
The other thing I liked was at the end when he was practically standing beside himself when facing his teammates in the road. They could have shot him, and he would have had absolutely zero reaction to it. Then the ARX-7 comes crashing in and he didn't even flinch, looking back only to acknowledge it as a piece of junk - halfway because it didn't kill him in the process of crashing past him.
The character development in TSR was very well played, even giving another side to people like Kurz. Now if only he could have at least given her that hug...

Another kindred soul acknowledging FMP's greatness? Can I get an Amen, brotha'!?
You have most of the same reactions that I did. The first season got me hooked by leading me on with a carrot of maybe, just maybe, something happening between the two hopeless main characters. The second season didn't mean much to me, but it made alot of new fans for the series as a whole. With TSR, I finally get the drama I wanted, with even better mech fight scenes (although a little spread out between the real gun fight scenes, lol).
Wow, I haven't posted here in a bit, but I've been reading the posts on email.
I want to know if he hugged her in the novel? In this scene. I'm sure there is major anticipation for anything FMP related, but it seems that Sagara not being able to engage her creates even more anticipation for another season.
And jeeze, I've been reading the manga's from the library, and I just have to say that, the art is awesome; swimsuits are great! Anyway, I'd suggest checking it out if possible. Though the story is really slow. Like even after 7 or 8 volumes, the first part of the series isn't even over. Sorry if that's off topic.
Decon_Blues: the rooftop scene is probably my fav as well. I'm going to have to re-run TSR and AIR sometime sooon!
also,

I got bored of FMP: F! a little more than halfway through, so I skipped about 3~5 episodes and watched the last few. Most of it I can't remember anymore (it's on some DVDs in my room somewhere). My manga hold a much more prominent position in my room, since I can read them anytime (I need my computer to watch FMP, lol).
I also hold the manga in higher regard, since the editor threw in some stuff that I think should have been in the anime.

That would suck... I first was afraid of that when she was being tested by the terrorists in the first FMP, the airplane episode... However, now that you mention it, Tessa's brother seems creepy and maybe he can do such a thing to her if possible just to steal her away from Sousuke.

Very true, since that one Whispered engineer chick later on in the storyline (forgot what book) tries to make Sousuke forget Kaname (almost succeeds). Too bad she dies. When she resonates with Kaname (after she's dead, oddly enough), she tells Kaname that she tried to replace her but failed (no one can replace Kaname, lol), and Kaname thanks her.
So perhaps Whispereds can mess with other people's heads? Or their crazy inventions can...
Sorry to bring back an old thread but I'm curious, since it takes place in Hong Kong, does anyone actually speak Cantonese in this anime? It'd be cool if they did since I'm originally from Hong Kong. :eyespin:

I know Mao spoke either Mandarin or Cantonese when she was talking to one of the guards. All the guards were speaking their native language as well. There was also one instance that a storekeeper spoke to Sousuke in Hong Kong in his native language as well. You might want to check it out, considering I don't now which language they spoke exactly. I just know that the language is of Chinese origin.

That's cool. :p What's even more cool is the DVD's bonus segments featuring location hunts in Hong Kong. It's too bad I won't be able to see those but it's not important anyway I guess.
Edit:
I just checked out YouTube and found that scene where Mao talks to the guard. Out of all her lines, I recognized only 2 words and that is "open the window." XD The rest was undecipherable. Can't blame her though.

Eh, you just made a few "billion dollar" questions :D
Let's say that the Author makes books, not mangas. And yes, there are several books already published that can be animated anytime. And yes, we all hope there will be a lot more of FMP anime but nobody knows for sure, as things are now.
My personal opinion is that there will be more fmp anime, because there is a lot of material ready to be used for it, and the first series went pretty well also abroad (I speak for Italy) and people is just like you and me: wanting more of FMP :)

rolf, half the time she was playing with his hair, and i was laughing
thats probably why it took so long and souske fell asleep
on an side note i thought it was goign pretty well for them up to that point seeing as how chidori started to open up and someone was at least taking steps
Yeah that scene is followed by another kodak moment . Sagara is at Kana's door and he tells her her he will repay the favor by giving her a haircut sometime .... I would have to say very well done to Kyoto Animation for making such an accurate representation of Hong Kong (at times).
I've lived in Mid-Levels so when Hunter the information person gave his briefing, the accuracy of the 4 still drawings played during the briefing was astounding. I visited the 7-11 convenience store once a week on my walk back from choir practice for ice cream. The bus stop...I can clearly see 93/93A in the information board. Correct numbers - morning only commuter student routes.
When Sousuke and Mao took the car out, I knew the roads Sousuke picked for his journey until the tunnel. The roads were fairly accurately represented*. Funny he used the bus-only "queue-jumping" route into the Cross Harbour Tunnel. The CGI of the tunnel interior was a very accurate rendition and Mao's talk about the tunnel being endlessly congested in normal circumstancesis also very true! Shame the other side of the tunnel isn't "local" for me so I lost the trail there.
Other minor details include the accurate (at times) rendition of the red Toyota Crown Comfort taxi, complete with all the external stickers. "Taxi 5 seats" and the flower stickers representing that the taxi runs on LPG.
Again...some amazing work by Kyoto Animation. Although the art was rather inconsistent, they've done tremendous research.
Can't resist being nitpicky.
*Huge error 1: When the 2 vans split, there is no intersection there in real life
Error 2: When Mao talks about never imagining seeing "Central" under the military, Sousuke is entering Wan Chai. The route Sousuke took doesn't take them via Central.

lol I love all of FMP series but this one has romance in it. It shows their development. It's funny and sad and intense. Sousuke's character developed a lot from emotional point of view. He improved and finally thinking about his future outside of being a soldier. Though he still dense about his emotion, we as the audience know he developed. So I hope he will finally get use to living as a normal person. lol But so much has been going so it would hard for him.

I'm still confused!
Nanjing mission was a hostage rescue mission from terroristswith an added twist due to a betrayer from the intelligence department of Mythril leaking information.
Hong Kong mission was to find and eliminate the Venom which had been causing random havoc.
(The resolvance of this by Mythril also happened to lead to the ceasefire of North and South China).
If I recall the Mythril briefing room, the Nanjing mission had a huge complex set of tunnels on the screen while the Hong Kong mission had an accurate map of Hong Kong!

but down to business, i have always thought about this but was never able to get an answer, who the heck is "wraith"? im not sure if this was discussed in another thread, if so pls link it.
as of now it just seems like a new character that will be introduced in a later series which will be created. Was this mentioned in any of the novel and is wraith closely related to anyone apart of mithril? (maybe mao's sis? same eyes colour and type of hair, just a thought oO )

wraith is part of mithril, but works in a different branch than mao. i think wraith works for the intelligence branch i think thats what they call it, but wraith is a second bodyguard that was assign to chidori.

Ok, well in that case she's a former agent of North Korea's intelligence service, a master of disguise as we've seen, and has apparently been kicking around the world a bit before joining Mithril at some point in the past. Her looks as I recall are a generic Asian woman with short hair and a slightly deeper than normal voice to facilitate passing as male.
Not a whole lot else has been revealed as of COMO, which is as far as the translated novels go.

Out of curiosity anyone got any info about a possible third season anytime soon?
Though i d rather have the novel finished before a potential next season, an open ending like the one from TSR would suck. Speacking of wich are the novel any close to coming to a conclusion?

well i began to wonder, kaname was kissed by that white haired MOTHER ****ER!!!!!!! (i hate that man with a passion) now to me the kiss was extremely long, she did look caught off by suprised but maybe she liked it o.O!!!!! she did slap him but she reacted so slow... anyone else pisssed by this LOL
as for final thoughts, the part when sousuke and kaname meet and he finds out she isnt dead, i hate how she beats him up.. who else was dissappointed by this? but they redeemed themselves with part on the train in the end... it was so cute how they looked at eachother and she grabbed his cuff, i almost cried (or maybe i did ???)

I made a post regarding that in the TSR thread but for me, it wasn't much of a surprise nor was it a letdown. Kaname's violent-critical attitude towards Sousuke built up over 40+ episodes isn't likely to change, even after a pseudo-ressurection. :P

I don't think its so much Sousuke likes it, just that he expects it after six months of paper fan madness. That and Chidori has anger-management issues.

I think this is explained in the novel that when Leonard kisses her she actually likes it for a split second before realizing whos doing it and then pulls away and slaps him.
She cries and wipes her mouth because she feels defiled, she wanted Sousuke to be her frist kiss.

I love the episode where Kaname is cutting Sousuke's hair. If you read Brandi's translation of the novel for that episode it makes the scene more sweet with his feelings and such...

definitely have to agree with you debbielj that hair cutting scene has to be one on my favorite scenes out of all three series but then when they reunite dont think the kaname smashing souske to the extent she did was necessary but was still pretty hilarious
TSR is simply unforgettable^^ i love it so much^^ hope too see more FMP animated too
Just to reiterate a couple things since I happen to be here.
I also really liked the hair cut scene. It's probably also my favorite scene of the 3 seasons so far. It didn't come off this way to me very much, but it's funny if you listen to the commentary by the VAs for that episode, all they felt from it was ero vibes.
I'd also like to reiterate some Leonard hate for (a ways) above said scene.

I know its an old post but I just finished watching the series, and yeah that kiss was what pissed me off the most. My mind immediately went "don't care if you're Tessa's bro, you're going to die, knife to the head." I also was disappointed by the reuniting. First you'd think there'd be something more than beatings but even worse was that she didn't even kiss Sousuke...not even later. And when she was crying at the school, he might've done something (more than hugging I would hope) but then the 4 c***s come out to ruin the moment :frustrated:
I'm dying for another season.
For anyone reading the light novels...how many more episodes roughly should there be for another season? I heard they'll probably make another season after the last volume is done, which is not too long from now? Also I heard the manga version ended, so I'm guess that took a different twist?

there are currently 4 completed novels (there will be 5 when shoji writes the final one) that carry on after the series. and in those series there is probably enough material for a 26 episode or more series depends which events they choose to cover.

Hi, this is kinda off topic but i recently bought the box set for TSR but it didnt have the Mithril report booklets in it.. i got it from Borders in Perth. can anyone explain this? maybe they werent released in australia or something weird like that? im trying to find them because im obsessed with FMP but cant find anything about them beyond theyre meant to be in the TSR boxset.

well i think they only have the booklets when you buy the dvd separately and not with the box set since they make the dvd cases for each dvd smaller. i had a problem with this when i bought my fmp box set but not when i bought the dvds of the other 2 seasons separately. i think the booklets are just bonus when you buy the dvd separately

Quoted for truth. TSR was great. It covers all the bases anyone would want in an anime.
Comedy, Romance, Action, it has it all :D
I re-watched fumoffu last night. The haunted hospital episode was so epic.
Kaname points to a flying head in the sky and asks Sousuke if he is scared.. "I'm just glad it's not a bomb."
Epic :D
Anyway, I agree, and I want a new season :)

And how obvious it was that Sousuke liked Kaname especially when he learned that he was taken off his mission of guarding her.
Then the rationalizing that he did with Kurz at the bar after Tessa accused him of only thinking of Kaname.
Then of course we got a blatant confirmation when he picked up that Kaname look-a-like in Hong Kong. Then the subsequent confrontation with Gauron that made Sousuke flip out when he thought his beloved was dead. Hee hee. TSR really showed how much these two has grown to really like each other.

But yeah he was just pissed after reading that. Looked like he was going to snap and then went out and forced Wraith to contact him.
Just finished watching this again and it really is a great series. Some great moments. That Gauron confrontation was great since he snapped and finally killed the guy. But even after avoiding the bomb just standing there almost dead while that glass cut him. It's a good thing she was alive or who knows how that would have ended. Too bad the time between the attack and meeting Sousuke killed Chidori's determination to confess.

i love when Kaname was sobbing in the middle of the rain, wanting sousuke to get back. I cried too :(
and the scene when Kaname punched Sousuke in episode 12
I defiantly love the last episode this TSR, where Souske was pretty much "dead" inside, and felt nothing and becoming almost like an assassin with the way he talks. After hearing the news the jerk gave him, and then exploding the building along with his corpse.
But then Kaname comes in and beats him up to a pulp, I especially love the 2 other people that were about to shoot Souske's reaction "She is almost like a demon.."

Has anyone bought/seen the Blu-ray box set?
When Sousuke fights Gates in the last episode, the TV broadcast played the opening during that scene whilst the DVD had its own BGM. Does the Blu-ray have alternative audio tracks for this? I actually prefer how the TV version handled it, the background music they used for the DVD just doesn't work me.

OMG THIS SO MUCH. I always hate how they fucked up that part - the opening in that scene was so epic. I own the DVD's and i watched the japanese BD Rips and both don't use the opening. I already bought the US BD's but it will take another 2 weeks until they arrive. Still i expect them as well to not use the opening. Hope that was of some help. Don't keep your hopes to high. I feel sorry for you Chidori/Sousuke fans. Clearly, Sousuke acknowledging Chidori as "Chidori"(her family name), yet acknowledging Tessarossa as "Tessa" shows that he cares for her moreso romantically than Chidori.

BAHAHAHAHAHAH
To clarify, laughing at you, not with you =P Sorry. Rude, I know, but here...
Sousuke only calls Tessa by "Tessa" because she requested it. Kaname has never requested Sousuke call her anything else, so he calls her by what he feels comfortable. He feels EXTREMELY uncomfortable calling Tessa by that nickname, and it shows. Every. Single. Time. He HATES being familiar with her. It goes against every fiber of his being, but he does it because she requested it and is his superior officer. He also is new at this "friendship" thing, and he values her friendship as well, so he does it despite his misgivings because he believes it's part of respecting her as a friend. (Not going to get into the rant about "If she respected him, she wouldn't force him to do things that make him uncomfortable." But think about it...)
No, he doesn't have a single romantic notion about the girl.
When he's speaking comfortably? He calls Tessa "Captain." Not even by a NAME. She's just "Captain." She is a rank to him.
When speaking comfortably with Kaname, yes, sure, it's Chidori. No honorifics (that's not how he rolls). Just Chidori. Not "Student Council Vice President." Not "Class Representative." It's "Chidori." He calls Hayashimizu by HIS rank (a bit exaggerated, but even so, it's a title he uses), and Kaname has those two school positions that Sousuke could refer to her as. She also has the codename Angel (although that would be awfully cheesy) that he could use, but does not. She is a name to him. Not a rank. Not a codename. She is a person with a name that he wants to use.
There's more I can point you to in how he refers to Kaname, but they're pretty novel-specific, and this is an anime thread. So, I'll stick with the points shown in the anime, and leave it as I have above.
Okay - finished up watching all three seasons of the Full Metal Panic series: that is, the original one, "the second raid" and fumoffu.
First off I am not a mecha fan - it just is not all that interesting to me as a subject matter in of itself.
That being said, of the three series the first one was easily my favorite. The second raid showed a little bit of growth for the male lead, and fumoffu, while admittedly absurd and filled with recycled dumb humor at times, had some genuine moments where the Sosuke and Chidori were a little honest with each other.
To be honest I was often frustrated by extreme portrayals of Chidori and her aggressive, perhaps even nasty attitude and behavior contrasted with Sosuke's outright denseness towards reality around him. For me it felt as if there was very little growth with either of them overall, and the "reason" was so that the extremes could be a continuous vein to mine for over-used dumb humor. Sometimes using this method "works", but for me it did not work in the three series, and quite frankly it got in the way at times.
Overall not that bad, but for me not something I would watch all the way through again - maybe season one, but not the others. Mecha fans might enjoy it more, as there is plenty of mecha and "specialized technology" present. :)

Well, I'd have to say that the story has just begun if u just watched the anime. I found fumoffu hilarious due to it only being made as a comedy. But, in no way was it used to push the story so the relationship between sosuke and chidori never really got to a new ground during it. However, if u really want to see the real relationship between them burst out and consume everything i recommand u read Sigma or the novels. I'm not saying its a bad thing that the relationship would do this, in fact i loved it. Sosuke finally starts to show more emotion after the events of TSR and is shown to really care for Chidori. I really wish i could tell u more but i don't want to spoil the fun for anyone.
Just finished Second raid last month
Why can we not have nice things and get more?
Cause it didn't sell well enough and it was hard to animate?
But there is a rule on these sort of things. Never say never. Space Battleship Yamato was held in general limbo for about 30 years and now it has a kickass series going on presently.
