Personally, I think Tate Yuuichi=Sergey Wong. Unless there is a character later in the series proves otherwise.

Perhaps...but as Andy00 mentioned, Tate didn't even come back as himself since the seiyuu was fired for leaking a major spoiler.:heh:
Everyone else got to keep at least some form of their name or at least close to it. Even Kazuya kept his. I guess we'll just have to keep watching and kind out.

Still, you have to admit Sergey is fulfilling the same role as Tate did: The main character is trapped in a love triangle with him... and we hate him for it.

To be fair, Sergy wasn't as bad as Tate was. Sergy is at least somewhat useful. Tate was probably the most useless character in MH.
Also, i don't think Arika is in love with him yet anyway. I just don't see Arika as the type to get seriously emotional attach to anyone at least till she gets more mature both physically and emotionally. The only love triangle so far is more like a straight line.

Looking down the list of names, I'm kinda perplexed: each time I read Yukino's name I see 'Croissant', Tomoe's reminds me of my alcoholic stupors, and Clochette, don't they make tampons!?

Sergs is a vast improvement on Tate imo.

Heh, very true. Has there been evidence to suggest Sergei is 'still' hungup over Rena - most of the swooning he did took place in his or Nina's flashbacks. He's not made any comment about Rena in 'current' time has he...? Or has he? :uhoh:
Can we put HiME-Gal on the list apart from Mai now then.

Sergey has at least shown that he is capable of actually contributing to the progressing story while Tate suffered from the "I'm in DENIAL of having a crush, but I WILL SO GODAMN fall in love with you for the sake of the story, and I WANNA PROTECT you but won't be able to, therefor I will get FRUSTRATED since my MALE-MACHO-EGO suffers because of my inability to be your HERO"-syndroma which is actually quite often among Anime-guys when they have the romantic-interest role and when the girl is the maincharacter.
The syndroma should speak for itself what I thought of him.

Second, what got me with Tate was he was not able to admit feelings for anyone and dragged both Mai and Shiho along for the ride. It is not manly or honorable in my book to do that, just admit who you are in love with and deal with the consequences. It just made things worse for everyone.
I don't get the macho ego much and I'm a guy. Maybe it's that I admit I'm a bit of a wuss and more of brains than brawn. That and a love triangle is nothing I have experience in. Then again, in both series how easy is it being a guy in them? Especially since any guy would feel emasculated due to the situation. Maybe being macho just won't work there if the women are tougher, and I know that from experience.
hmm, shouldn't we be discussing who had already appeared in both Mai HiME and Mai Otome rather than the difference between Tate and Sergey?

It's technically on-topic, as if it's decided Sergei is indeed Tate (and I say no, btw), then Tate HAS appeared in Otome.
And until episode 12 comes out and Mai finally shows up (hey, I can dream!), we don't have much else to discuss on THIS topic anyway.
There's one thing Sergei has that Tate doesn't. Well, except for guts, lovableness, money, lack of Shiho (ALWAYS a good thing, that!), and an actual sense of humor: look in episode 1, the scene with the Kuuraku flock (Using Romanji to avoid being hunted down for using a different spelling).

Same voice actor, same basic looks, but they didn't keep even the smallest thing about him.

Actually, it's a different voice actor. Tate was voiced by Tomokazu Seki. Sergay was voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi.

That does not mean he was fired. In order to be fired, you have to have already had the job you got fired from. He was not called back for Mai-Otome to voice a character therefore he can't be fired from the cast of Mai-Otome because he was never cast for a role.

Well, he's suppose to be older here, much older, and more mature. I don't think it's a bad choice though - I can see a lot of Tate's old personality showing up in Sergey, especially in flashbacks and how he deals with Nina and 'Arinko'. I never thought that he and Natsuki would be butting heads this much - they seem so similar.

Erm, is it just me or does Rena have a completly different eye shade in this picture? Doesn't she normally have a very clear/light shade of blue? Somewhat like Arika's? Her eye shade in this picture looks like a dull amberish, a scary resemblance to Nina's eye shade ...

No you're not missing anything. I could've sworn that, on the official website and the blog that her eyes are normally blue.

... I did said it is a 'derivation'. It is not the Rena from otome. It's just a design already used in GPX-- (same goes with Haruka's). Thus the picture can not be use for speculations.:p

Gah! I had this omnious feeling of doubt about that, and I was tempted to look up "derivation" to see if my doubts were corrected XD (Yet I was to lazy, and it looks like that just bit me in the ass.)

Saying Sergey isn't Tate is one thing, saying he doesn't look anything like Tate is wholey another. I honestly don't see how people can say Arika "looks like" Rena, or Nina "resembles" a side character who isn't even introduced to us in Mai HiME and then turn around and say that Sergey and Tate look NOTHING alike. What the hell? Yes they are two different characters. Yes they have two different voice actors. YES THEY SHARE PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.

That's because, this is from GPX. Rena's design, or at least most of it was recycled from this character.:heh:

I don't know if anybody already mentioned it, but I don't see him in the chart... The King of Annan has the same character design of the doctor who was taking care of comatose Akane in the second half of Mai Hime, and often reported to Natsuki about her conditions...
Is anyone forgetting that we *have* seen Alyssa in Otome? Up to this point, the HiME characters have been age-altered, name-altered, alliance-altered, and some have been given total personality overhauls (*cough*Mashiro*cough*).
Alyssa was the little boy who stole Nina's pocketwatch. I wouldn't surprise me if they also gender-bent a character. But, would it really surprise anyone if the little homless thief ended up being a girl?

As for Sergey, has anyone noticed he's got the hair colour of Tate, but the hair style of Takeda (they guy in MH who, in episode 4, got a front-row seat to the Natsuki Kuga show when all her underoos were stolen and the wind picked up).
I think our Sergey is an amalgamation of these two characters.

The thief girl is a girl. She was a girl from the very beginning. Her name is Mimi.
