Yuji took Kazumi with him to Seireiden to use her "image" of the City to reverse the Tuning Spell with "Anti Seal"(from vol VI (Dantalion's arc in the anime but animators changed the story) which will cause the already unstable dimension around Misaki City to break down, thus opening the Interval between worlds; where he would created the Xanadu.
Yes, I know that the translation of full Novel Volume 22 text in Baka-Tsuki is almost complete. Still, I would appreciate if anyone could post a summary of that volume, like the ones posted in this thread a long time ago. A summary would definitely help people like me to understand the finer details of Volume 22. Thanks to anyone who can provide such summary.
Okay, so I haven't been catching up with this thread ever since I posted the Volume XXII spoilers, but I need to know something, after watching episode 17 of the anime:
Is Xanadu supposed to have humans, too? Yuuji talked about the Tomogara wanting to live with humans so he will create a copy of this world to accomplish that, but... somehow, this doesn't add up with what I heard so far, I thought this new world was for Tomogara only? As in, no humans allowed? Because Yoshida can't follow them, right?
And above all, does this mean there is a copy of every human in the new world as well? Or are there really none at all and I just misunderstood?
Can someone clarify this for me?

It is not stated if they are exact clones of existing people...but yes, there are humans there.
It's basically a new world that has everything in this current one, minus Misaki City
The only difference is that it's a depthless well of Existence

I have to admit, I didn't read any of the other novels, so I've got a question which raises concern, really...
Shana asked Yoshida to recreate that letter Yuuji wrote, saying "Just say what you want to say, I'll listen."
I... I can't remember something like that at all, am I right to assume that this was omitted in the anime?
Can anyone tell me what this was about?
And if it was omitted in the anime, how do you think it will affect the final scene?

s1 and 2 of the anime DOES NOT follow the novels. They eliminated Dantalion's arc, the flashback arc to Mathilde, and a lot of minor details. Even s3 isn't entirely innocent from this.
But then, it is J.C. Staff. They do that with light novel adaptations A LOT, trust me.

Honestly this is one of JC's better adaptations....
Now, if only they can pull of the same for the next Index....
JC Staff usually provides the best light novel adaptation to their biggest project of the year. Though I wish they had started this from 2005 when the first season of the anime came out.
There are a lot of scenes from vol 1-15 that I wish I could've seen them in the anime. Like Shana could have been more kawaii in the first season if they had adapted it better.
I'm just glad that the final season has been adapted a lot better like they had done with the Index series. The final scenes in the last volume are the ones that I want to see.

Why?
It's an entire storyline on its own about the war against Toten Glocke with plenty of tragedy and romance
It provides so much insight into the war with Bal Masque, the plan of the Snake, and the wishes of the Tomogara.
Most importantly, we see here plenty of insights into who's right and wrong in the struggle between Flame Haze and Tomogara

I believe Flame Hazes is the more accurate pronunciation for it.

What I truly feel about Eternal Song cannot be described properly or done with justice, but I will try.
When I started following the Shana franchise in '07, I was very young then. Attracted by the surreal style of the anime, I brought my first Shana manga in HongKong, and it provided me with a lot of inspiration about a lot of stuff, in particular a doujin I was working on back then.
Interested in the Shanaverse, I delved deeper in '09 onwards. I started hunting light novels and familiarising myself with the references and other misc. information about anything I can lay my hands on (artbooks, guidebook for the light novel, forums online etc.) In a way, Shana was also the first true fandom in which I worked hard towards integrating into. (Touhou is my life now, but that is another story :/) It gave me a comforting sense of belonging, as though I was supposed to understand the deeper meanings the author wanted to convey.
Eternal Song is like a long forgotten memory refreshed in my mind. When it was announced, it felt like I had expected it for awhwile already (I had this same feeling when I read vol. 10 of the light novels). In a way, it completed the "past", or the historical aspect of the Shanaverse, the last missing gear in the works of Shana.
tl;dr Eternal Song completes the franchise, in a way I find hard to describe. It gives the final touch needed to truly bring the Shanaverse to life for me.

Heh...Shana was my first LN....you could say it was what brought me into the LN world and drove me to pick up Japanese...holds plenty of memories for me too....

I just randomly "hunted" for animes that didn't have too many annoying fillers and was focused on young love. LOL

S3 so far has been pretty faithful to the LN though

Yeah, Shana and Haruhi together made light novel series adapted into anime starting to become popular when both anime first came out.
Haruhi was rather popular already as a LN itself when it first came out, so the anime only caused a further spike in its popularity.

And does the anime still follow the novel? I've only read the first part of the final novel, and thought episode 19 was well adapted, but episode 20 felt like they took some liberties, but I don't know since I didn't read the corresponding material.

I'd agree with that. IF BT still hosted its translations at that time(it was removed), it'd be probably my first series.
I didn't like Haruhi a lot. It was my 3rd/4th series that I've read, since I...stumbled upon the E8.

Personally, my first light novel was Zero no tsukaima, it is because of it that I know Shana (who is way better in my opinion) :)
For me it's thanks to JC Staff and Rie Kugimiya that I had been following Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, Toradora and Hidan no Aria light novels.

my first was also zero no tsukaima. Shana is just plain to hard and machine translation doesn't make sense on it. Then I see zero no tsukaima being translated in bt. ZnT was the first novel I read in bt. I never was a fan of Haruhi. It's good and all but never really a fan of it.

Yes. He can just wipe them all out if he really wanted to and the code she inputted, he can just overwrite it any time he wanted.
He was going to do so in fact, but he let it be in the end as he decided that would be for the best.

And didn't Shana and her allies think that they failed and that the Snake used his Shini Shoukan to overwrite, only to learn at the end that he decided to let the code be?

Seeing ch 3 was done, I rushed off to read it. I was still listening to music on my mp3 player. As I progressed through, A Thousand Years (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtOvBOTyX00) somehow came up on my playlist. I'm not kidding.
The most moved I've ever been in a long time, and a beautiful end to a series I've loved for years. Thanks to you TLers for all the hard work you've put in, I'm really grateful.
After the revelation that the Reiji Maigo uses the disortions of the human world as it's powersource, does that mean it won't work in the new world? Isn't that bad for Yuuji? Does Yuuji even need the Reiji Maigo anymore once he gets there? Does it have something to do with the spell that activated after the kiss? I hope someone can explain this riddle to me, even though I did read chapter 3, I still don't get it.

From what I could tell, Lamies' kiss-activated spell restored Yuji's existence fully, so he no longer needs the Reiji Maigo.

I'm really thinking about too much unnecessary stuff here. I guess I'll just wait for the last episode for now until thinking any further about it. Though I doubt that actually revived Yuuji as a human, more like it boosted his torch up to another level or something. Though I can't put a name on it, he's probably become something like a Flame Haze, with the Anti-fire Ring as his energysource.

Yuji said the Reiji Maigo is useless in Xanadu since its a world filled with power. So I guess he could get enough power just by being in Xanadu similar to the Denizens.

Dude, stop asking questions that make me doubt a happy ending, will you? The new world has an unlimited supply of PoE, unlike Earth, where everything has it's own amount of PoE until it runs out. So if denizens can live off that well of PoE in Xanadu, Yuuji should also be able to do so. And if that doesn't do the trick, Leanan-sidhe's whatever spell she gave Yuuji, that basically boosted his existence into "he was not a weak torch anymore", should.
With the text saying that the Reiji Maigo is broken and useless in Xanadu, and with this line from above, it's pretty clear that the author wants us to know that there is nothing to worry about. But dang, you just had to give me doubts now, didn't you? Thanks a lot, pal. :eyespin:

Once she said that, the deep green jizaishiki spread out, and the spell that was engraved inside the ring glowed as if it was responding to it. The flame that looked like it was dimly burning flickered and soon disappeared.
“That’s the most basic protection for that battered body. You better use it as a farewell gift.”
Does this mean at this moment Yuji ceased to exist as a torch?

I meant to say that both of them ended up having a spell that basically restores or creates a new existence from nothing.

I guess it makes sense why he would be able to alter the activation mechanism then.
I actually think that City Devourer wasn't the actual requirement. It was required, though, because you need a whole lot of PoE to create an existence. City Devourer was designed by Azis to gather PoE so he can create his progency with his Flame Haze's existence, right? Friagne used City Devourer to gather enough PoE to use the spell that is carved in the ring, so he can give Marianne an existence. With all the PoE around now that the Tomogara left for Xanadu, it should've been enough for the spell in the ring to restore Yuuji's existence. The text even said "the ring absorbed the nearby PoE".
So I don't know what Lammies did when she touched the Ring, she probably really set it to activate with a kiss, but yeah, what I'm trying to say is that City Devourer had another purpose besides being the trigger to set it off, that is to gather the needed PoE.
I love how everything makes sense. I hope the anime does cover it like that, so people who don't know or can't make the connection don't start talking about "Deus Ex Machina"

As far as I know he doesn't become human. Friadne didn't want to make his doll human, he just wanted to give her existence on her own. The spell in Azure is the same, Lamies only modified it to be activated by a kiss, and not by the city devour.

You shouldn't watch Commie subs. They are bad. You are correct, Yuuji didn't become human, rather an independent existence close to a Denizen.

All is fine with them. Yuji's like a Flame Haze with his links to SoF (except there's no real contract). Shana will never break her contract with Alastor because they still have the father-daughter dynamic with them. Yuji's like the Envoy of the Beginning and Shana's the Envoy of the End here...and they can't die a natural death, so if they don't do anything silly like go to war with each other, they should be fine.
As for the relationship, sure took a long time for them to finally get to that point isn't it.

Seems SoF wakes up every once in awhile to see whats happening in the new world and eventually he saw Yuji. Maybe theres a spell or something inside Yuji that lets SoF looks there Yuji's eyes when he wants to and thats when he heard Shana walking next to Yuji.

From #1-9, 0, 10-12, S, 13-16, SII, 17-22. According to the Shakugan No Shana Wiki's listing of the LN ordering. But then again, I can't read any of the LN except for 1 and 2 (Living in the US sadly)

The Anime for some parts followed the novels. Some things had to be ommited due to time constraints and just "redone".

1-4 are summaries because of the licensing issue. Before it was taken down, we did have volumes 3 and 4 (volume 4 wasn't complete as chapter 4 was 62% complete), then it's volume 5 and 6 in bits, 7-8 complete, 10 in bits, SS half-complete, 16 complete, 17 in bits, 22 half complete, 20 1/4 complete...
Anyway, if anyone's asking, I did save a copy of 3 and 4 that was on Baka-Tsuki before it was taken down, but we can't upload it back up because of the current state. (I'm not acting as representative of B-T here, so don't ask me.)

Viz? It's been like that for, 5 years?
1-4 are summaries because of the licensing issue. Before it was taken down, we did have volumes 3 and 4 (volume 4 wasn't complete as chapter 4 was 62% complete), then it's volume 5 and 6 in bits, 7-8 complete, 10 in bits, SS half-complete, 16 complete, 17 in bits, 22 half complete, 20 1/4 complete...
Anyway, if anyone's asking, I did save a copy of 3 and 4 that was on Baka-Tsuki before it was taken down, but we can't upload it back up because of the current state. (I'm not acting as representative of B-T here, so don't ask me.)

ah, I see, didn't know that they also translated the manga.
In the wiki it says, that the manga is finished, but when I read the manga, it just goes up to Volume 6 Chapter 36, does that mean they aren't finished translating them?
Haha, I found Novels 1-4 on baka-tsuki on spanisch, now I'm using Google chrome to translate it, i's not really correct (grammar wise) but it's still understandable.
Edit: Once I get volume 1-2 from a store( god help me if there is a bookstore, that can get them, I don't trust amazon) I will try and put it on the internet( is that allowed?)

The news about the whole novel is not yet revealed. I've been waiting for the novel's catalog to be updated with SIII every months.
Maybe after this afterstory is released, it will be bundled into the last volume along with other stories. Just a speculation.

Thank you. I'm not really sure I want to know about Shana and Yuuji's future... you know, when an author sets up a future, it gets canon, whether we like it or not. Right now, it is (almost) perfect. But just imagine the new story saying stuff like "lol Yuuji dies", I mean, how horrible would that be?
Though I trust Takahashi not to do this, he worked so hard on the happy ending we have right now.
What I actually wish for is babies.

"Future" is about the people who stayed behind on the Earth while "Hope" is about the people who left for the new world Xanadu.
"Future" divided into four chapters.
1. Misaki Municipal High School
The story takes place around two months after the creation of Xanadu, involving students in Misaki Municipal High School's student council including Ike, Harumi, Kimiko and Yukari.
Since that time, people in the Misaki city starts rumoring about seeing and hearing something unexplainable ( the last battle which happened from the sudden removal of the Seal during Yuji's revelation of his true plan after Xanadu is created). But the incident never create chaos among the people because Yuji also used Kazumi's memory of Misaki city to fix all the distortion since Friagne's activity in the city.
2. Sakai Residence
The chapter is about the couples of Sakai house taking care of the newborn with Ogata coming to help them. Sakai Kantarou's research on the news about people seeing and hearing unexplainable things during the final battle. Chigusa reminisces about Wilhelmina Carmel whom Margery Daw told that she "left to somewhere far away and wouldn't come back to the city but she's living happily now".
3. Misaki City Station
Tanaka and Kazumi goes to welcome the temporary return of Satou and Margery at the station. Satou enrolls in Tokyo's high school while also working at the Outlaw. Margery comments that Kazumi looks more beautiful when she have long hair (shoulder length) now. Satou and Margery tell them the situation of the Flame Hazes and Outlaws; the Flame Hazes are going to come to Misaki city to research about the completely fixed city and Hirai Yukari who eventually returned from the "death". but to prevent to sudden entrance of them, Flieder and Holmes who take care of Japan Outlaw, and Dong Ming the Guilunhui (presumed to become the Elder) are trying to stop that commotion. Sophie goes back to her retirement. Dan Rogers, Hildegard, Francois and Mikalojus are still active at the Outlaw. Marcosias reveals to them that the contracted Crimson Lords who stayed behind in this world are blocked from returning to Crimson Realm since Xanadu is created between two worlds; it cuts the link between their will and their home which is like a guide sign for them to go back to their world, resulting them becoming like Asiz who once cut his own bond with Crimson Realm to re-materialize without losing his beloved contractor's body. While the guide post to Earth is changed to Xanadu, the guide post to Crimson Realm from Earth is unsure where they will be leading to or to be strayed in the Abyss forever. Margery tells that with the hint of Asiz and the secret scroll of "Psalm of Grand Order" left by Johann, they may uncover the truth which was discovered by the once-returned God of Creation.
4. Feast of Cherry Blossom Flower
At the Misaki mountain where Cherry Blossom blooms, Sakai Kantarou, Chigusa, the newborn and others are enjoying the scenery. Chigusa and Kantarou reveals to them the reason behind the name of the newborn, Miyu. They heard the sound of someone at the night of the last battle, the sound from somewhere far away (はるか which also can be written as 悠). When the night comes, Margery presents the ring which she said to be "St. Edward's ring"(the legend of St. Edward's ring can be searched in google) which is actually the part of ten rings Chorde. She said that if they hold them tightly and pray, it may reach to the other rings. The ring then passed to Ogata and Tanaka, then Margery and Satou, then Ike, then Yukari, then Kazumi. The newborn then cry out like wanting the ring too. The ring then finally passed to the Sakai couple and infant. The chapter ends saying that their prayer and blessing becomes wind that could even flow between worlds.

1. "Manipulator of Objects" Wilhelmina Carmel
The chapter starts a year later, after the Xanadu is created. On Tendokyu, Wilhelmina and Rebecca are taking care of the child Justus whom starts to be able to weave an Unrestricted Spell before he could master walking. They are then visited by Shana who, staying by Yuji's side on his eternal quest for teaching the way for both race to coexist, while he is forbidden to come to Outlaw and Tendokyu (rooting from Wilhelmina's grudge on him for attacking Justus during the last battle). Yuji becomes known with the sarcastic title received from other people and Denizens, the "World-wandering Ascetic"(廻世の行者 Junkai no Gyousha).They talks about how the Outlaw is reorganized without Sophie, Samuel and others here; Sale, Chiara and the Four Gods are taking care of this problem with the help of former Flame Haze's contracted Crimson Lords: Behemoth, Halphas and Zirnitra who come directly to Xanadu (since the world is filled with unlimited Power of Existence). Shana becomes like a sister for Justus.
2. "World-wandering Ascetic" Sakai Yuji
Somewhere in Japan, Yuji is escorted by Pirsoyn to the restaurant. He meets Ribesal in his human shape which resembling big robust man with beads around his neck. He talks to Yuji about his quest and approach him to side with Bal Masque again. Yuji declines this and is then scolded by Ribesal for involving Bal Masque's members in his former battle with the newly created organization called "Maccabean Brothers" (マカベア兄弟 makabea kyoudai); the organization bends the oracle of Shaher falsely preach Denizens to massacre people as they pleased. Yuji apologizes Ribesal and Bal Masque for involing their comrades and ask if Bel Peol is fine. After finishing their food, Ribesal tells him to take a good care of the princess (Shana) which Yuji reacted with sudden surprise. He then ask the Crimson Lord how to become strong quicker.
3. "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Hunter" Shana
The chapter involves the battle between the "Maccabean Brothers" 's Princes (seems to be the title for leaders)and Shana/Yuji. They disguises and infiltrate into the killing area organized by the two Princes, "Subterraneous Assault" Dáin (“潜逵の衝鋒” ダーイン "Senki no Shouhou" Daain) and "Smashing Hammer of Chaos" Charun (“紊鎚毀” カルン "Bintsuiki" karun). Shana and Yuji manage to finish the two off and instruct the other members to kill no more. Later, Shana and Alastor compliments Yuji for his improvement. When they are going to leave the area, the sound or melody of something is heard coming with the wind. They then depart, holding hands.

I don't know, maybe I was expecting some more insight on Shana and Yuuji's future, but we got a little "slice of life", so to say, instead, which was also insightful, to say the least. I am just so glad they are doing well~
Seems like a bunch of problems have arised though, with an organization such as this, sounds like a take on certain ways religions work or used to work in our world.
Uhh, and Yuuji being (temporarily?) banned from Tendou-kyu is kinda sad, haha. When did he attack Justus anyway? I read the chapter but the last instance I can remember was him firing after the (fake) van that took Pheles, Johann and Yoshida away.

Hi, first at all: thanks @Elf Song for short summary of Hope & Future SS, I was searching everywhere cuz the epilogue en Vol 22 doenst sound like final, even now, reading the short story summary looks the story can even go deep and further more exciting, and looks theres more problems, like the Earth Flame will decrease unavoid to some time in extinction, so probably they will try to construct and dimensional door, well i think and hope the author will not turn Shana/ Yuuji in Phelbes/Johann and the same fate. :confused:
Somebody knows why theres no more Vols of the light novel or anime season??, I mean, low sales?? or the author just got tired of??, but i do really want they publish more, could be hard if I wait for OVAS or even a movie??, well last one i dont believe could meet my standarts for a finale or transition, i hope too, see some Shana/Yuuji "normal" life, if they go school or just Flame Haze business and more grown up Shana (ok, 1.i not lollicon, thats why and 2.Well life goes on, yeah?).

- I'm sure Yashashiro Takahashi wouldn't go that far. I'm pretty content that he's happy at how he ended the series and with the effort he put into it, I can see why he wouldn't want anything in it that'll say "Hey fans! Look a hidden meaning in my epilogue! SEQUEL TIME B*****S!"
If anything, he probably just wants people to check out the series and be happy at this one-of-a-kind thing. If he made a sequel, practically everything that happened in the first probably wouldn't even matter anymore in the sequel or be mentioned.
Second part:
Well the series seems popular in Japan. Even certain sites uploading the manga versions (which are funny too) of this series updates it once a week. Besides, the budget put into Japan making the light novels, mangas, anime, merchandise, etc. probably is enough already.
In addition to that, J.C. practically just finished the third and final season; I'm sure they're pretty tired by now and just want to move on and animate other series.
I can't bring myself to look at the spoilers. Would someone please just tell me one thing? Did they undo the bittersweet ending? Something like, there's now a magical portal that allows travel between the two worlds.

I just listened to Future & Hope on the new Superiority, and even though I only understood like 5% of it (and with help from the summary that was given earlier) it nearly drove me to tears, especially the last bit. Yuuji and Shana tagteaming the rebelling Tomogara was really great, it gave me the impression of two gods or something like that putting an end to a war. When they walk home after, they talk about stuff I don't get, but I heard Yuuji telling Shana about how he loves her and she tells him back, and I think they even included some inner monologue of Yuuji thinking about Shana (I believe it was the part from the last volume, where he thinks about how he ever could have let go of her hand, but I'm only assuming) and then they walk off into the sunset or so. It was so romantic and I'm so sad that I will never get a translation ;_;

So could be like Shorts Stories collection??, on DxD usually have between (i dont others) like vol 8 and the recent release 13 and the have 3 Dragon Magazine SS releases and one special for the book, 4 chapters looks like short book (160 to 180 pags), as I said before, this Universe have a lots of things can explore and made really interesting, like Creation God could be a new contract with Yuuji like flame haze??, dimensional door between worlds, Justus and Yuuji imouto, Satou could be a flame haze??, well, theres just few ones.
BTW: sound really interesting the battle against Maccabean Bros... can hardly wait, but have to ... :D

well, i was reading all can get about this, since march, looks like they up to some surprises, Funimation bought the anime rights from JC Staff and now they are working on dvdrip or blue ray versions, season 2 was delay to december to add more extras and english speaking season 2 its on the process, Dengeki said they will celebrate 20th anniversary with Shana and 2 series more all high, thats why coming new vol, in some way the guy in charge of Dengeki said some like: "Shakugan main story finished", you ready know new manga was release with a precuel??, if we look they could try: 1.before Shana, like the new manga and 2.Hope & Future story line.
PD: I didint know they have this kind of success en USA.

SIII is comprised of these chapters: Sorrow, Verger, Nomad and Future & Hope.

Future & Hope in this thread. And Nomad you can find it at the end of manga vol.3
Sorrow is newly written chapter. As far as I understand from reading atwiki pages, it happens during the American Civil War about the cooperation between Friagne and a human, Billy/Billie Hawkin(not sure about the translation)...
who wanted his revenge on a certain Flame Haze and his commanded army that burned down and destroyed his village. At the verge of death, he successfully created, with the help of Friagne, one of the most dangerous Treasure Tools in history and named itTrigger Happybefore succumbed to death.

If they're still doing books for this series, there should be another 2 guidebooks: "Shakugan no Shana no Subete II" and "Shakugan no Shana Final Anime no Subete" which tend to have short stories inside. Also, Ito Noizi's next Shana Artbook (which I think they'll sell it too) which usually have the short story too.
I actually want to see Future & Hope animated (probably as OVA).

Yep, Eternal Song seems doing well cuz have like 16 releases if I remember well.
The picture its from Hope & Future SS, I think there's some summaries here few pages back.
I read on Mahouka Koukuo no Rettousei tread the popularity females characters ranks and Shana its there, same the Book, so its curious how the Author, Editor, Dengeki, anime and manga producers will take this, I mean, I don't know exactly the reason cuz the author said will finish, maybe just tired, but the Fans keep increasing, I think some like Evangelion phenomena, I even tried to see if there is some doujinshi but couldn't have success.
That's why I have on mind if just Shana no Shakugan story line was ended and come another arc on Future & Hope, another one its could continue only on manga and/or anime format, anyway, time to time to see what will come.
