Okay, just finished watching it. Though the hardest japanese sentece I can understand is probably "Daijobu desu ka?", I could still understand more or less the plot and part of the jokes... and this was 52 minutes of original SR-goodness, excellent episodes. I didn't like the ED song of the first part, but nevertheless, the OVA was as good as the series.

Though not true closure by any stretch, I found Karasuma-Kun's final lines in the series to be a heartfelt summation of what the whole series was about:

"We are in a dream, Tsukamoto-san. A dream called youth, one from which we will all wake up from one day. However, the memories of that dream will be with us always."

As the whole story was supposedly an idealized version of what the author's own unromantic, violent high-school days (Yup, the author based Harima-Kun off himself, and he looks like him too in interviews), if this was truly to be the last time we see Tenma-Chan and the gang broadcasted on national TV, its a truly sweet and heartwarming way of saying "Farewell, loyal viewers. Treasure the happiness of your youth as long as you can." :)

I would guess that Harima Kenji is also a very idealized version of what the author wished his boyhood was like. No doubt that scene was far more benign interpretation of a cruel act of bullying and ostracising that occured in Year 10.

Real Japanese school life is rife with violence, drugs, alcohol, bullying, bitterness, loveless sex, cynicism, unwanted pregnancy, delinquency related hospitalization/death, gang warfare and suicide (much like America, it seems). Thankfully, the festivals and the spirit of teamwork cultivated by the Japanese school system still allows avenues through which warm memories of hard-working romanticism can be played out.

Be that as it may, one can therefore surmise that the popularity of anime such as School Rumble and To Heart amongst over 20's can be attributed to a need to relive those shining moments of warmth, innocence and idealism, but filter out all the nasty crap that just had to happen in between and making the nice moments last much longer. :(

Yeah, I was quite lucky, coz I've just finished watching the anime not too long ago, and almost immediately after I finished the first season the OVA came out, and with the 2 OVAs came the GREAT news of a new season! Woo-hoo! Gunfight gunfight gunfight!!!

The first person that comes to mind is definitely Harima, but since I've been gunning for an Eri-Harima pairing, I'll have to say maybe Harima's brother? I have this feeling that she'll end up alone though.... which is such a waste... unless they introduce new characters into the fray!

Other pairings I'm looking out for is Imadori-Lala (ROFL!!); Asou-Mikoto (Very possible); and Takano Akira-Hanai (another ROFL!)......

A large number of factors, including eye shape and voice, rule out this possibility. If you try to explain these discrepancies away as flaws in Harima's memory, then you could substitute any girl in for Tenma, not just Yakumo.

Uh, seeing as the second season hasn't aired yet, there really can't be a definite date for season 2 DVDs. But if it's any reference for you, the anime started airing October 2005, and the first DVD came out in January 2006. So it's about 2-3 months after the first episode airs. Probably. So ETA around... July/August?

i think yakumo also has potential to end up with harima.

i have no idea how they are going to get around his crush on tenma, but i dont see them ending up together even though they really deserve to be. now i dont mean that in a bad way, but there is just so much potential for harima to make a romance with the other 2 girls. and besides tenma will still be in the family if he ends up with yakumo. and eri seems to know so much of his anatomy already... it we would be a waste to not let her imagination continue.... :)

considering each anime episode is 3 manga chapters, of either # (main storyline) or b (side story), out of 120 possible manga chapters around 80 were animated to create the 1st season and the two OVA episodes. this spans up to the beginning of Vol 8, which is #97-#99 and b20.

Vol 7 ends with Harima getting run over by Eri's limo when he goes to turn in the manga before the deadline.

b20 is with Ichijou and Lala at the fast food place.

Chapters 98 and 99 is the mini-arc when Tenma takes Harima to go shopping for Karasuma's birthday present.

the manga is currently at #170 and b chapters are in the late 30s (which translates to somewhere in Vol 12). that makes about 90 new chapters that can be animated. if every chapter is animated, there's more than enough manga chapters to cover another 26 episodes.

if the 2nd season drops as many chapters as the 1st season (40 out of 120 = 33%), than the manga currently won't cover all of season 2.

i'm not really reading the manga (since i don't know Japanese) but from what i can tell, Vol 8+ has a lot more large story arcs than Vol 1-7, so a larger percentage of the chapters will probably be animated.

ultimately, i predict:
Vol 1-7 = Season 1 + OVA
Vol 8-12 = Season 2

and Vol 12 isn't done yet.

Hanai + Yakumo actually getting together would ruin both of their characters imo.

For real? Takano? I think she's a character void of personality. Hopefully she'll get some life blown into her in the second season, because we haven't seen a lot of her in the first season.

I'll agree that there wasn't much, but then again connection was made near the end of season 1. I'm just saying it'd be a nice possibility that they get together, I think their characters would suit eachother well. As for Harry... it x Lala all the way

the sarah asou thing, where did that come from? is part of the anime missing from the tv show or is it just a bit of randomness as usual? the sports event episode kind of made me raise an eyebrow that i missed soemthing earlier.

You can see that Sarah likes Asou from the sports festival episode. She is cheering him on before the relay, and later is seen happily talking to him during the Oklahoma mixer. There may have been earlier indications, but I don't remember them offhand.

Well, the biggest indicator is the special b chapter 13 from volume 5. It shows them working together in a Chinese Restaurant and is full of nice scenes which depict them as a perfect pairing, last comment in this chapter: "Sarah and Asou, a tasty combination...". :D

There were also other bits where she mentioned him etc. like the corresponding chapter of this volume, 62, and the aforementioned sports festival scene, in volume 6 - chapter 82.

So yeah, actually that makes their pairing the safest bet out of those that still need a closure. ;)

The anime shows that restaurant scene only in the credits of episode 26 iirc. And she also mentions him as a senpai of hers in the same scenes as in the manga. Their pairing needs more love in the second season!

;) Im agree with HydroRaven Hanai Haruki is best courage on honest however there is no one being love with hanai just only everyone know Hanai chase Yakumo. Pittyfull hanai the man with skill drunk master kungfu with iron stomache easydoing beat by yakumo, im sure he will be match with her. For harri with sara i dont think so, because it will be good if Sawachika chase Harri because both they are is blonde and also asou with mikoto too....

So I actually found out that the School Rumble mangas are starting to be sold here, US. Even though it's only 3 volumes so far, but I'm hoping that the manga will do really good here. Then maybe it'll join the Adult Swim lineup eventually? It's just wishful thinking...
