That song is 'Funny Girl', the B-side to the recent exige(Kuribayashi & CT Veronica) single 'Believe Yourself'(IGPX ED theme). Oh, and the "SONGS FROM age THE LIVE 2" bit is actually just the name of the second part of the live event (first part was called "KimiNozo Radio Discography"). First part had the KimiNozo cast singing various songs from the series, and the second part had CooRie, Kuribayashi and Kisho Taniyama performing.

Generally, I do think that upbeat songs (with fast tempo) sound weird for series that are moving towards the dark side. Of course I won't rule out the possiblity of Kuribayashi Minami performing yet another fast tempo song. From my previous experience, you can expect a delay of release (ranging from 1 to 3 days or more) from the fansub when there is a new OP or ED. I wanted to hear the song before it is being aired though :upset:

Nice find ando. If hope that is the actual song. Personally when I learned Minami Kuribayashi was doing the opening for both mai hime and mai otome I was excited since the chrno crusade and kimi ga nozomu eien opening are among my favourites. Both times I was disappointed with the introductions when I heard them for Mai Otome + HiME; this song however seems more like the Minami Kuribayashi I know and love.

Personally, after seeing and hearing Crystal Energy, I feel that it goes absolutely perfectly for an OP, but at the end just ends way too abruptly.

Still far better than Dream Wing though, both animation and Music wise.

Actually, it looks more like a Gundam 0083 or Wing OP to me... Seed OPs generally aren't as well animated.

Heck, actually reminds me of a few other Sunrise OPs. Their action anime OPs all tend to have this type of style.

In the first few seconds of the OP there is a scene where Nina, Arika and Mashiro are all standing in and around a buildings rubble, and this just screamed an omage to the Gundam Wing OP where Heero and Relena were in the same setting.

Since Miyu was practically the single most vital part of the ending arc in MH next to Alyssa, I find her absence in the new MO OP suspiciously obvious...

There is no way Sunrise could make her a minor character, since Miyu is protective of Arika, carry hints that she might at least match an Otome in combat skills, and knows far too much to be a nobody. And yet she made NO appearances in the Opening!

By her very absence, her important to the story is even more glaring in my opinion. Maybe Miyu's spoiler is too great to even be hinted at via the new Opening?

Yes this really a good opening ever since the beginning of anime, the song really matches the video and when you seeing it, really give you the feeling of the story itself. The opening seems really perfect as it doesn’t have any weakness in anyway to be seeing. The timing between the song and the image was perfect, and the song really suitable the image but there is a slight weak spot when there was image of the shooting star before there was scene when Rad hold Mikoto (Mashiro Cat). If possible if they remove the weak spot it surely becomes the most perfect opening in the history. To tell the truth this really reminds me of Gundam Seed when these three (Arika, Mashiro, and Nina) facing other side while they at some city ruins. The stories itself resemble Gundam Seed where they have to fight each other even they are friends. If any Gundam Seed Fan seeing this they would agree with me, you can also seeing the scene when Arika and Nina cross their weapon it is same as Gundam Seed before? By the way this opening really great, you can call it was a masterpiece since in the World of Anime. When I first hear the melody of the song I thought it was some old song but it really match the scene and after hear the whole song it really was perfect song for second opening. Each part the scene was splendid; really match the song and when you seeing it really give you the strong feeling about the whole story as the Otome textile really fit each character personality. I have seeing the opening for almost 2000 times hope I make a really correct expression about the opening. ^^

Seriously, these new costume designs...
I don't think I've fully 'liked' one single costume in this show - maybe the camping clothes. Most of the time it's just different levels of hate heh. I think Rena's robe is probably my fave - Natsuki's one is alright too, if only she didn't have that ridiculous aerial sticking out her head.

Hopefully Tomoe has a dark robe (although I don't know how she'd activate it...) - the flight attendant one is still better than the average Coral and Pearl uniforms are.

I love this new op. OK, it reminds of gundam so much it really hurts, but the girls look so sweetly kickass that i had to rewind the op many-many times after watching the episode.
Someone suggested before in this forum that the title Mai-ZHime looks like a sort of a parody for Gundam Zeta. So more gundam parody? Maybe, or maybe they realized too that having a scene where Arika lands in a "Justice" kind of way and the whole sky is filled with explosions looks so irresistibly sweet!

PS: BTW great job Doremi with the karaoke! It looks gorgeous!

Either way, all you can find right now for Crystal Energy is the TV length. The single with the full length won't be released until February 22. Unless you are lucky to find a radio version of the full length song. But still it won't be as high quality as the CD itself.

I recommend turning the volume up a little next time (read as: turn up a freakin lot). I had the opening going round and round in my head (well, the first bit) until I listened to the Tekken 5 opening song and now thats going around in my head. Not that I find it surprized that Tekken replaced Otome in my mind.. the opening is the most addictive I have heard for any game. I find the new OP a LOT better than the old one (read as: one hell of a lot better.).

Sunrise must have actually listened to the complaints of fans from the last season, and made sure that a more sombre, less happy and more serious sounding opening theme was crafted to match the darker and less upbeat direction of the story. ;)

Lets just say that the BGM was not exactly "energetic" enough for me....say, something like Ignited of GSD which had alot of energy going in the BGM.

For Crystal Energy, it was like....a fast pace song, with a rather soft singing/vocals....comparatively to Shining Days for Mai Hime, which had energy + headstrong singing.

Or maybe Im just missing my daily dosage of drummers in the BGM.:heh:
