Nao seemed to have the strongest element in the first series, second only to perhaps Miroku. Indeed, she was the only one to seriously use her elements in combat other than Mikoto. With them, despite her lower-tier Child she lasted a lot longer than she would have.

Ants are some of the strongest living creatures in the world.

Ants may be strong, but with humans around their strengths are not comparable. Ants may be able to lift objects larger than themselves, but humans can kill ant infestations with chemcials, or just stamp on them. I wouldn't place my bets on something I could take out just by stepping on it. ;) Now, if Arika was the equivalent of some kind of giant ant.. She IS more of a super, giant, human-ant. We still have yet to see if she can carry.. say.. a car with her jaws.

Nao gets my vote. Her weapon is just too cool. More effective for riot control though.. or just.. riot obliteration.

EDIT: Why is Chie in the list? I don't recall ever seeing her weapon.

Difficult to base votes on what we have seen so far but i'll vote for Midori .

She gave Shizuru a hard time during the battle, so i'll consider her as strong. She could catch Haruka's weapon bear-handed...

Quite disturbingly, the same Haruka-Chan who can throw an entire battle ship into orbit with one hand. :twitch:

Midori! - not like anyone couldn't guess, since I'm more-than-certainly biased :heh: Dual-wielding blades, a nanomachine injector to give her an Otome's speed and strength for a brief time, and of course, Gakutenou! That fight seriously makes me want to see her more (not like I needed any encouragement). I hope she and Aswald turn out to be the "good guys" after all when it's said and done.

For second place, if I could have voted it, I'd say Arika - her weapon was very cool in episode 7....and of course, Bolt From The Blue pretty much was awesome-waiting-to-happen...not that you saw it really, but the combo of her going G Gundam "Hyper Mode" for a few seconds (more of Gundam X satellite link I guess, but still :) ), plus the blur-factor after the attack finished was enough to make me think that must have been one pretty damn cool attack :D

For third place it's Irina-chan! Sure, she has no element! Sure, she hasn't even done hardly anything in her robe other than wash windows! But man that was cool the way her floor-washing robot broke down! :D (plus she gets brownie points for looking like Midori's little sister)

Nao would realistically be third though, if not for the humor-factor of Irina's go-go-gadget-carpetsteamer. Her weapon is too cool :D

Arika #1. I'm as biased for her as MakoFato is for Midori however ;) I just love everything about Arika :D Her element and robe are coolio, and she gets big brownie points for showing that she can be hot as well as cute last episode.

Saying Shizuru is by far the strongest is being more than a little blind. I wouldn't point out anyone for being the strongest, because at this point, we just don't know. We haven't seen too many people in battle and for all we know they could be holding back deliberately. I personally would place my bets for Midori eventually topping off at strongest position number 1, but saying she is stronger than, say, Shizuru, at this point, would be foolish. Why? Because I don't think either or them put anything like their best efforts into that fight they had in episode 10.

They will probably all be overtaken by Arika in the end, and Nina had a meister robe somewhere.. Picture of a figure I think it was, but it was blacked out as to not spoil any of the story. Meister robe is a bit of a guess, but it sure didn't look like ordinary clothes, and it wasn't a standard robe.. It's the main characters you want to watch out for topping the strongest positions.

First person I've seen say that. Oh, and keep your eyes open, Nao still has her claws, that was something Sunrise wasn't going to get rid of. That gives her one up over the other pearls, what with her transforming finger nails.. the so-called 'gymnastic rods' are actually both useful and stylish. Out of the things the stick could be transformed into, I think she did rather well.

Does Nao aim for meister status? Too bad she probably won't get as far as pillar.. well, Nao always was one for leeching off the person that gave her the most advantage time. She seems the kind of person to go to 'the highest bidder', when/if Otomes start going deserter during the war.

Ahh.. s'ok. Well, I have major complaints with Arika getting even more super powered and all that, but I'm ok for Nina to become a high ranking super powered Otome as well. Someone to keep an eye on Arika and give her friendly, good natured corrections and advice in the form of the odd slap or elbow-in-the-ribs. ;) She'll have sorted herself out before then I expect. I'm on a 50/50 here, and thus am almost indifferent as to whether the main characters end up at the top.

Though, to keep balance, I would like some secondary characters to retain high up positions, possibly even occupying the top slot. Having two 15 year old girls a positions 1 & 2 when you have long running fighters like Shizuru and Midori around would be a little.. out of perspective.

But it's bound to happen, alas. The beauty of the cliches...;) I'd love to be proven wrong but I really don't see anyone being stronger than Arika in the end of the series. But I could hardly care less who is the strongest anyway since the ranking usually changes for plot convenience.
Because of that I voted for Haruka as the one with the coolest weapon, it really suits her personality well. :)

Well, I wouldn't place my bets on Arika topping out at position number 1, but I wouldn't bet on anyone for that matter. It is too early to make an accurate prediction. Hmm, Sunrise likes staying away from the standard mold, perhaps we could hope that Arika doesn't get that most powerful position? A little predictable, don't you think, for Sunrise? It sure wouldn't do anything for her attitude. Dreams, in most cases, do not come true. People usually learn the hard way. Arika needs to do so.

Mai was strong in some respects, but weak in others. I didn't see any particular person topping off at stongest position number one in Mai HiME.

Heheh.. and I would love to be proven correct. Either way, we both get what we want. An Arika free top spot.

Mai had the strongest child in kagutsuchi but Mai herself wasn't that powerful. Althought she did have a lot potiential, she never had the training and mostly use her power for defensive purposes.

For determining which HIME is the strongest you have look at 2 things, their child and thier element.

Back to topic :) I voted for Arika. Simply put, her weapon of two side crystal blades looks cool and that bolt form blue is just very nice. Shizuru and Midori aren't really that noticeable. They look kinda bland to me, they should have keep the MH elements. Which is a lot cooler then their current weapons.

I think this thread is just a little too early for it's time. I am holding on to my vote untill I see at least all of the pillars and their weapons. I mean Natsuki and Mai have got to have something interesting this time around.

Out of the ones I've seen so far though I'd say Nao had my favorite weapon. I liked her claws a lot in Mai Hime too, so seeing her strings make a return in a new shape was interesting.

I'd say Nao is clearly not aiming for Meister, she doesn't even aim for the top 3 of the students, just to stay at #4 to avoid the boring duties. I guess that means she may be the strongest among the students. It's harder to get a certain score you want in exams than getting a full score. Reminds me of the guy in Stellvia.

Miyu's weapons werent shown yet in the anime, in the manga she's pretty cool

i vote for Shizuru, i think hr weapon looks like one of the best, Arika's weapon is nice but then again it cant act like a whip :P watch out Natsuki

and Mai has not been shown in the anime either, only a rumour was yet to be heard from Takumi, but then again Mai may be strong but i think that all the others arent using their fullest strenght either..

and the dark otome could be one of the group who turned dark infact..

but i think that when Natsuki is shown in her Otom armour my vote will change to hers

you still must know that Arika is an Otome in training, she simply calld upon her mothers help and by that activated her weapon, how do you think those acedemy students summon their staves, they dont come from a factory, produced by thousands

also i think its because of battle experiance that she was also able to fight down the slave, Arika has fought against Nina and before that even proved that she was made from the right wood by throwing nina's staff right into the first slaves face..

it was mostly because the power of the robe that she won
but it doesnt make her the strongest, i think every single meister robe has extrodinary power but simply do not get used to thir extreem

if Shizuru wanted to blow up and destroy Windbloom she could have but she didnt do it when the Slave was IN Windblooom, she wanted to take it out, causing as little damage to the things around her as possible

but then again i think that Shizuru is still stronger then Arika, we havent even seen her special weapon skill yet to its ultimate, like when Arika activated it it grew size and it even had a name witch appeared on her gem, we havent sen such a thing from any other meister robes yet, i certainly think that Arika's weapon has another, non special gem attack like Shizuru and Haruka have shown us in episode 1 and episode 10

Shizuru already shown the weapon abilities by extending it like Renji's zabimaru (Bleach). I think that is her sword ability. Any how, still always the main character will be the strongest.

though i think her weapon has more to show then she's right now showing, if an otome like Mai can take down a whole set of Slaves in the opening, why couldnt Shizuru and other pillars be able to do this

talking about her and reffering to her as The ruby of the flaming jewel, later on we see Natsuki starring at a picture with her and Mai and a bunch of other class mates from the times she was a student and then asks Takumi if he is Mai's little brother

It's the crystal blue dual-bladed sword she summoned in episode 7, and which I think she's shown holding in a few scenes in the op (I think Arika's flying scene has it)

While she is utterly baffled over these two cleverly relevant questions, you stab her in the back, or whatever method of attack you wish to use. :D ;)

Light makes sense...lightning was just my first guess. I can't honestly say I stopped and paused it to think "hmm, wonder what energy Arika is associated with..." or anything :) Interesting choice of equating blue with light though, instead of the more generic and stereotypical yellow, gold or white.

Though maybe this means we'll see an Arika MkII later on in yellow, gold or white :heh:

Regarding Mai's eye color...it's a light pale purple-blue, yeah. That's the color it is in the op, as well...depending on whose encode (or which raw source) you look at, it may look blue, purple, or gray. Unless you have a DVD to check directly from, I wouldn't get too hung up on it though...there was a certain photo of a promo figurine of a Gundam SEED Destiny character which made her green uniform look black because of the lighting, and everyone insisted it was a sign that she'd be promoted. As far as I can tell, that never happened. :heh:

Too early to vote, I think. We haven't even seen half of them with their robes activated, not to mention the Harmonium, Mai, Miyu and others I'm too tired to list. And the fights we have seen stink of the obligatory 'see their mass power!' introduction that most characters receive.

For example, Shizuru's graceful destruction of the slave in the first episode, Arika's "Omg she can FLY" in the first episode, Nao's slice'n'dice, Haruka's spaceship/plane javelin, etc. Really, I don't take any of these displays very seriously, because they just don't seem so much like real battles as they do statements to the viewer.

The closest thing was the fight between Midori and Shizuru, although during that time somehow Haruka suddenly wasn't as strong as we were led to believe, and kind off just dissapeared when Shizuru engaged Midori in battle. I don't know where she went, she just was not there any longer.

Convenient and common, like how Arika will most likely become the strongest. Even though she's a bit like a rich kid getting a BMW for a first car from his father, and leeching off her mothers success. This is main character syndrome at its worst. "Well, if she's determined, then her dream has to come true!" I love the logic. I'll be dissapointed if any of the already activated otomes are the strongest. No real reason for why, but I just will.

Haruka probaly retreated into the "Plot convenience" sanctuary, giving Midori a chance to escape. Not that anyone else bothered tio pursue her. :heh:

I vote Shizuru, I've always been a fan of the sword I saw first in Iria. Now it's a sword, now it's a whip. Oh and so far Shizuru rob is by far the coolest, this is all robs seen up to ep 15 mind you, futur robs might be better. ;) I'm hoping the shadow-Otome and Mai have some cool stuff to show off.

I think all the robes suck. The clothes are horrible. But, it's set like that, so I won't complain about the design, otherwise they would all look out of place. and why does everyone keep saying Shizuru's when there are still so many more to see? Harmonium, Mai, Natsuki (does she still have guns?), maybe even Nina & co in coming episodes. Extending swords may have nothing on say, a nuclear bomb held by a suicidal maniac otome. That'd be cool. :P
