Do you know where i can find the omake/promo where Arika and Mai are having a little chat in a restaurant? i dont know how to look fo it >_< i am so sorry, but i didnt know where could i place this question ...

That paper fan is called a harisen. It is large and makes a lot of noise, but doesn't hurt much.
The harisen was was made popular by a form of Japanese comedy called manzai. If you've seen Azumanga Daioh, you probably know all about manzai so you don't need to read this, but if you haven't, please read on.
Manzai was made popular by Osakan comedians (hence the Azumanga Daioh connection) where one comedian (the straight man, or tsukkomi) corrects the other (the fool, or boke). Whenever the boke says something stupid, the tsukkomi says something nasty to him and delivers a physical blow such as whacking him loudly with a harisen.

i actually downloaded both promos :P , and i noticed someting "different"
the one that is 25 mb the conversation says:
Arika: ".. it is a super yuri lesbian story!!!..."
and the little one, in exactly the same scene-dialogue says:
Arika: "... It is all girl dorm story!!!..."
:D so... this is a big difference in the interpretation of it, dont you think? personally, i will stay with Arika saying is a yuri lesbian story XD. The dialogue was not exactly how i remembered first, but it certainly changes depending on the translators :cool:
go for the Yuri!:D

Yeah. Noticed that extremely different translation also. I think that I'm hearing the word "yuri" while listening to Arika babble, but honestly it could have been a word that sounds similar since I'm not the best at Japanese comprehension.
Can anyone here with real skill at Japanese tell us which fansub was right?

Hmmm...there's no actual word for lesbian. they would just use the katana: ビアン which is pronounced rezubian (Lesbian or for sometimes they would shorten it to レズ = Rezu (Les)
And since I didn't hear either one, Doremi's translation is not correct.
From what I remember hearing, it sounded like Arika mentions "yuri yuri" which could also mean a vibration or tremor...in which case, I'm surprised she didn't use "doki doki".
SS's translation...I didn't hear the word りょう (ryou) or even ドミトリ (dormitory). Although if they just trying to refer to a school then I guess they would have to be the closest since it sounded like Arika used the word じょしゅ = joshu, which is the closest thing to academia.
But then again Joshu is somewhat of a tutor.
In my opinion neither one is accurate but I'd have to go with SS. Someone else with a second opinion? I could sure use it.

Hmmm i doubt mai-otome promo would actually say that it is a yuri lesbian story. Hmmm that would sound kinda offending and not suitable for younger children.
Moreover, so far the anime does not even have a clear instance of a lesbian couple appearing together. At least marimite has Sei and Shiori kissing. So I would believe SS version is correct. :p
You do realise that it is aired during the "Otaku hours" of around 2am?
That being said, I dont see how yuri lesbian story would be offensive to Otakus....or am I wrong?

Nah, it wouldn't be offensive...it's just that particular part is inaccurately translated...that's the issue.:heh:

Yeah, it definitely airs at 2:30am.
It's meant to be for people who work late or just get back at later time. Typical situation: business man gets off of work but joins coworkers for a drink. It's late so he has to catch a train before they stop running and comes home in time to watch (as Eclipze mentioned), the "Otaku Hour".
So basically it's for Otaku who come home pretty late since the Akihabara area closes early and there a only a few places like Ikibukuro that don't really cater to otaku....they need something to watch when they finally get home. :heh: and because it's late, they usually air the more mature stuff during those hours.

I guess I'm stating the obvious but please keep taking the liberty you need to make stuff come across both authentic and well-adapted to anglosaxon culture (U.S. I guess for you).
I've translated a fair bit (books, not anime, nothing involving Japanese), and the semantic chunk is usually the paragraph that you can mold to the target language. I guess for anime it is the sequence of words by one speaker in a row.
PS/Edit: Having declared my love for idioms, what on earth did you mean by Shizuru telling Tomoe not to beat around the bush in episode 13? (I understand the idiom but it doesn't really fit or I don't get it :-(

I believe that Shizuru said it in a way that meant, "Just forget about me and move on with your dreams (of being an Otome.)" I took it in a way that Shizuru was encouraging Tomoe to just drop the crush, cause I'm pretty sure Shizuru's aware of it :p.

And dont begin to mind abut being liberal please... if we would want to see fixed anime for children then we would watch for "Dic" or "4kids" translation of every anime that lands in their handS!:mad:

No what I had mentioned was that the word "Yuri" can also mean "tremor" or "vibration" (literal definition).
I only mentioned "doki doki" like more of a question as to why that wasn't used instead if it's "vibration" that they were trying to convey.
But it's best if fansubbers try to be as accurate as they could with their translations. Otherwise they can mislead people into believing something that's cryptic. This can upset people or at least damper their spirits when the truth is finally revealed.:heh:

I watched the promo.
Arika says:
だって、だって、百合、百合な女子校モノですよ！
datte, datte, yuri yuri na josikou mono desuyo!
"だって" = but.
"百合、百合(yuri yuri)" only emphasize "百合(yuri)".
"女子校" = a girls' school.
So my translation is "But... it is a yuri girls-school-story".
Japanese part is sure, but someone must be able to translate better than me.
