View Full Version : MH/MO clothing discussion
1. At Fuka Academy, uniforms are different for the grades. Why did they decide to make Nao a sophomore like Shiho and Mikoto? She looked rather dull in red, blue, and white...
2. Why is Chie allowed to wear black silk stockings with her Pearl uniform? At Fuka Academy you were allowed to get away with an "abbreviated" uniform (ex: Natsuki's sneakers, Haruka's chest...). Garderobe is freaking charm school...
3. Are there any "gakuen" (school) series that DON'T use uniforms?

Methinks it's the unspeakable allure of the promiscuous lolita. In other words, making her a "little girl" makes her that much hotter in attitude, if not necessarily in style.

I don't have the character designs on hand, and I doubt it's much more than a stylistic decision on the part of the artists, but perhaps the uniformity of the Garderobe outfits can be stretched to a certain point. Chie's stockings aren't indecent, after all, being simple opaque leggings. Get her in fishnets and Miss Maria might throw a bigger fit.
3. Are there any "gakuen" (school) series that DON'T use uniforms?
Blasphemer.
... Well now that you mention it, I don't think there are.
3. Are there any "gakuen" (school) series that DON'T use uniforms?
It's offtopic but yes. Oniisama e... my favorite anime of all time.
3. Are there any "gakuen" (school) series that DON'T use uniforms?
If u speaks "gakuen" that means u're talking about Japanese School. All Japanese School student must wear uniform. Even public school students (sailor uniform for female and black suit for male). So, all anime about school always have uniform in it. Maybe if the anime's settings are on different country, they might not wear uniform.
3. Are there any "gakuen" (school) series that DON'T use uniforms?
Well, if you consider Hideki's prep school from Chobits a "school", then yea, there isnt any uniform there.
^I don't think any prep schools have uniforms, but I'm not sure...
And regarding the first post:
1. Half of the reason why Nao was such a fun character was because she was supposed to only be 14 years old. Her attitude wouldn't fit as well if she was older.
3. Like somebody else has already said. All public schools in Japan have to have school uniforms.

Ooooh, Chie-san in fishnets....:eyespin: I really like that idea!
As for the other fashion stuff...Zipang needs to die...The entire country's tailors - all of them.

And here I thought this would be a discussion of why Natsuki's outfit makes her look like a porn star...
Edit: Not that there's anything wrong with that...
3) Yes. Ojamajo Doremi featured an elementary school without uniforms. That's all I can think of for now.
As for the clothing, the only design I don't like is Akira. Whoever designed her "ninja" outfit should be shot. It's atrocious.

Most elementary schools don't wear uniforms...especially public elementary schools. It isn't until Middle school that uniforms are enforced.

Well, I was more of trying to make the point that I didn't mind. I didn't want anyone to think I was complaining. It's a bit odd looking, I'll admit, but I've come to like Natsuki's costume ;)

Ok here is a question...
Why is Akira uniform trimmed in pink while all the other girls in her class are in a blue-green.. and for that matter Nina's is in a green color?
Just wondering?
Edit: I figured out why Nina's uniform would be different, she is #1. Akane's uniform is trimmed in a different color (red I believe) while the other pearls are in gold. But still wondering about Akira's pink.

probably because she was #51 and they forgot to change it as she moved up?
...on another note... uniforms in mai hime were nice ...those in mai otome (as well as most of the clothes) are... well, i'd rather have the chars without them (no not THAT way! ...well... maybe some of them) ...with a few possible exceptions, that confirm the rule

:stupid:
I personally think the clothing designer of Mai Otome should be fired from a battleship cannon. If not for the school uniform, then Akira's battle costume alone should be enough incriminating evidence to grant the punishment. :D

Anime that had students go to school with no uniform = Soukuu no Fafner
On the subject of this series: I didn't like the Mai Hime uniforms, they were a little too orange for my liking, though I liked them infinitely more than the uniforms in Mai Otome. Those stupid aprons make them look like maids in training ... And don't even get me started on Arika's pink dress, or majority of Mashiro's outfits for that matter. I mean I get the fact that they are trying to show that we are in a different world with the strange outfits, but really ... I'd appreciate if they weren't all that ugly!

They're supposed to be maids. The series was originally called My Star MAiD during the production stages. :heh:
This series' setting feels like Tsubasa Chronicle. The "desert-ish" clothes with the weird shoes as well as the puffy pants. Or something out of Aladdin or something. :uhoh: I liked it better if it was modern instead of fantasy. :uhoh:

That's kind of the idea though. Like the first Otome being Fumi...you remember she was a maid, right?:heh:
I'm not too hot on the uniforms either.

Perhaps the maid-like uniforms were to attract otakus who have an appealing side with maid-fetish?:heh:

Hush you! That's metagaming!
I used to dislike the Otome uniforms, but they seem natural to me now. Except Akira's battle costume. That set a new record. The most an anime has ever managed is 2 seconds of shock before I burst out into racious laughter over the stupidity of something (previously held by Naruto's Tony the Tiger Mizuki). Akira's battle uniform got not 3, but 4 seconds of shocked awe, when I tried to fully grasp what in the Hell I was looking at.
Then I burst into racious laughter and fell out of my chair, before calling Payne and CYpher and laughing about it.
Schoolgirl unis, maid unis..... what's next? Latex?
Schoolgirl unis, maid unis..... what's next? Latex?
Um....mass-production of Natsuki's bike wear in MH? ;)
Captain Picard: Yea, it seems pretty alright for a uniform. Hell, I didnt even have a shock moment throughout the series.:eyebrow:
And hows Arika's battle different from the others? I thought only the color was different, and not much else?
Btw....whats metagaming?

Akira's battle costume
Akira: Ninja girl from Zipang
Arika: Ant-like Otome in training
And the best clothing in the show is either how Haruka's outfit looks like her uni from MH or Miyu's hat.

Hmmm... I quite liked Reito's and Shizuru's student council uniforms, they looked way better than the normal orange of the rest.
Or is it because they're supposed to be drawn cooler than the rest? :heh: Hmm, I've just imagined Shizuru in the orange version... Not bad...
And that hood thing Natsuki wore... Hmm... I kept trying to imagine it being drawn over her head... Quite a funny image :p

Yup! She does that orange uniform justice.
