Heres a fun conversation about a topic. This happened through messaging.

You might have seen this already though.

Meet Riplee and she's the closest humanlike robot ever made. And her creator. Soon the land of the rising sun is going to dress them in school girl outfits, and all your fantasies can come true!

Finaly. I can get my dirty hands on Solty.. but wait..??? Whats with her hands? lol those looks dirtier then mine. Aahh I miss those times I thought the first android would instinctively know what to do with a bamboo stick. ^-^ And for a cheap deal. Oh well, you never know what the future have for us. ;)

BTW why not make a thread about this? Its a pretty intresting topic.

And ruin my fabulous integrity?

The link is fine, although I disabled the download window in Firefox and didn't realize it was downloading until MPC popped up with the video.

The robot is amazing though. If I did not know the facts, I would never have thought that was a robot. :twitch: Next they'll have to recreate Chii... :D :heh:

Anyway, robots are the future right, then I guess one can say we are the future now. ^^ I mean women without the inconveniences of course. :uhoh:

But, but, my robot fantasy involves using my 100 foot tall mecha to crush my enemies, Giant Robo style!

So this strange guy in the front is a robot... wacky yet fluent movement (very realistic).

I wonder how much equipement is behind that curtain in the background. And what would happen if the 4 cameras were not there? ^^' (those cameras are necessary to generate a 3D model of the room, so the robot knows how to coordinate... real time processing of such data is very difficult, because it needs much calculation. The more complex the surroundings are, the more difficult to process it as 3D data. Thatswhy -I guess- it is just a little simple room (without much furniture and stuff))

Its powered by compressed air, and the mechanisms to do that can not be shrunken enough to fit inside a humanoid body. Not a male skeletal structure, and definately not a female.

I saw something about this a few months ago. Interesting, but..Meh...Seems like a pointless avenue for research, Unless they are using the mechanisms to develop better limbs for amputees or something

This is very disturbing.
Agrt

I seriously I find it weird it has no real use. Oo"

People are better off focusing it on making better artificial limbs for those who lost their limbs. I dont think this will be used for that. :twitch:

Actually, there are quite a few uses for a humanoid robot. Perhaps the top use would be education. It would be like having your own private tutor. Language especially would benefit, as with the right programming, it would be like having one on one instructions with a person fluent in both your language and the one you're trying to learn.

Yeah, I can see that being a cheaper alternative to teachers :eyespin: :eyespin: :eyespin: :eyespin:

Thanks for letting me know about this. Wow...nice to see some improvements with the Repliee series! Certainly looks a lot more human-like than Q1, and if they could fix the movement and lip-sync issues, it might even pass off as a human. There's two more videos below in the official site (http://www.ed.ams.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp/development/Humanoid/ReplieeQ2/ReplieeQ2_eng.htm).

I'm impressed by these guys, as they've taken android development much further than anyone else has ever dared to go. There's always such a stigma when it comes to developing humanoid robots, so I'm glad Japan's weird perversity is actually useful for once in the progress of technology. :eyespin:

Can you imagine what this will be like in 10 to 20 years? If you can't, just go watch Chobits. :D And if you need another reason what purpose this would serve, think about this - lifesize dolls are already being sold by both Japanese and western companies, and it is quite a serious business. :p

What kinda bugs me though is how they're always trying to make it look human, making it still look freaky. I wish someone would make one with a more anime-like robot and Kigurumi shows this is definitely possible. I've actually been thinking of making a Serio or Chachamaru animatronic head for a while now...

o_0 In 20 years we'll probably have Chobits walking the steets. Or Terminators. Or both.
Anyway, thanks for the link!

hahhaha, is that so gaiarth? Me too, me too.

Jojo - that was uncalled for.

Not chobits apekatt, it's persocom ^_^. And evil killing robots huh? We're really all living in a preanimated world where our thoughts aren't our own.

I thought the movie what kinda freaky. I don't think i'll ever be used to walking electronics. Sorry Jojo, your wish isn't going to come true. -_-

I was reading an article in The Econimist the other day about this and the robot convention being held that was very interesting. It basically said that robots were being made so that Japs didn't have to hire Phillipinos for cheap labour. The reasons they didn't want to hire were pretty funny too.
1. Language barriers
2. Potential problems with honorifics..lol
3. Japanese were becoming more and more internalised and would prefer to ask a robot instead of a human for directions.
Anyway I think they should hire teh Phillipinos, considering they have like a 99% pure blood line which has a resulted in a older population and a horribley low birth rate.

Space exploration. It's like sending a human up there, but without the need to feed them or care if they "die"

Combine this with Honda's little robot and we're good to go. ;) Did I mention this Repliee has a freaky posture? Reminds me of Chucky. :upset:

Thanks for the heads-up on this article (http://economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=5323427&no_na_tran=1). For me, it's finally put into perspective the Japanese obsession with robots(and I made a topic asking this several months ago too :heh:)

Damn, this is just STUPID. Are the Japanese this xenophobic towards foreigners that they'd much rather prefer ROBOTS to people?! :eyebrow: Individuals, I can understand(as I happen to be one too), but an entire nation?!

I also think the difference between westeners and japanese is fascinating when it comes to robots.

The japanese seem to have a much greater confidence what robots are able to do in the near future.
Not one european polician or scientist, I know of, ever has suggested we could solve our demographic problems with the help of robots alone.
Not even the most xenophobic ones...

(Cannot see the video either.)

Lol, sorry for not linking eh some of the goods stories require a sub.....it's quite sad though isn't it. All I could think is wow how weird can you get? Like they really care that much about the proper use of honorifics?:heh:
