View Full Version : Fan service in Mai Otome compared to Mai Hime!

I watched and enjoyed Mai Hime last season. Unfortunately, the only element of Mai Hime that I couldn't enjoy was the amount of fan service in the show. It just annoyed me. Well, the deal is that I'd like to see Mai Otome, but if it has the same level of fan service in it, I'm not really interested. If anyone could tell me how the level of fan service in Mai Otome compares to that of Mai Hime, I would REALLY appreciate it! Arigatou!
... i don't really think we've seen some serius fanservice ... ... maybe expect the pool ... or some blunt hints -.- i haven't noticed no fanservice :p
For an anime aimed at young adult men (seinin(sp?)), namely Otakus since it is shown at around 2am japan time, the amount of fanservice in MH and MO is considered VERY LITTLE. At most, they devote an entire episode showing some tenticle monster (MO) or a panty stealing orphan (MH).
Well, its your choice wether to watch it or not. Its your loss to miss out on a good anime (to me at least).

I really didn't noticed THAT much fanservice in Mai Hime. Like episode 1 was with Mai's chest, no big deal (lots of animes do that anyways). Then we had the panty stealing orphan (Which all it did was steal panties)...in comparison with the tentacle monster in Mai Otome, that's not even worth comparing :heh: We even had a girl on girl action there too, we only had a tease in Mai Hime.

I have to agree that the level of fanservicing in MO (even MH) is very little, and you shouldn't be put off by the small amount that there is because it's a very good series regardless. :o

......which was like 5 seconds, maybe I should've been more specific, it still pales in comparison to the one in Mai Otome. :p

What is "fan service" for you?
If it's putting something in the show just in order to satisfied the fans, like the Shiz/Nat thing... So MAI-OTOME is fuuuuuuuuuuuuull of that.
I Loved Mai-HIME so much... I'm very incomfortable with the new show.
Too many Shiz/Nat for me. But it come from the fact that i love the "angry and lonely" Natsuki...
Also, is "Takumi/arika" fan service? Or "Akane/Kazu"? Cause... That was, in MY opinion, hum... well i can't say it.
The more it goes, the less i love Mai-Otome.

I'll be tempted to agree, thanks to the behavior she's showing. :p
But what I believe for Mai Otome is this: It has a good storyline, plot development and character development so far. Putting most of the elements of a good anime together, I would simply discount any "disgusting" fanservice from my evaluation. As long as you like a good anime, who cares about the fanservice? Treat it as eye-candy and not important, since a minor factor like that should not put you off that much.
In regards to comparsion....I would think it would be almost equal so far. But hey, it's your choice to make.

yep, i agree... i know this anime has a very good storyline and i don't really care for the fanservice, however, many people in my place don't want to watch it, coz of this one thing..who just makes me sad....the fanservice isn't too much anyway

Yup, you are right..I wouldn't mind fan service. So far it was only episode 6 that has fan service.....:naughty: ...not much actually. They have good character developement that most anime don't tend to have. Thier character design looks quite refine only thing is that the plot have not turn serious until now...:heh:

Sorry, but for a Seinen anime, aimed at young male otakus, it will be impossible to have no fanservice at all.
Not to mentioned that the FS in MH/MO is definately the least compared to shows of the similar category.

Well, If you count the yuri action/teaser as fanservice, this anime have sooo muuchh of it.
But I don't think that can be a reason to miss a great anime like this.. No matter how the fanservice could be, if the story flows nicely and the characters have well-personality, there's no reason to not watch it. ;)
