Hmm..can those "GiveAway network" sites be trusted, like you have to signup at tere main page and chose som "offers".. and then you will get an free game console..

The email i got

1, Copy and paste this link into your address bar
2, Register on the site and reply to the email they send you.
3, The site will then ask you to complete an offer, If you wish to receive a SONY PSP then you need to complete one of the offers on this site. I suggest you Try SCREEN SELECT offer as it’s free.

To complete the offer you must click on the SCREEN SELECT offer link and when the new window opens you must register and apply for the free 30 day trial. All you have to do is add at least 10 DVD films to your selection and wait until you get credit for the offer and then cancel the free trial before the 30 days has passed it won’t cost you a penny.

Alternatively you can try the EBAY offer will also cost you nothing. To complete the offer you must click on the EBAY offer link and when the new window opens you must register on eBay and then bid on any item. You don’t have to be the winning bidder so make sure you bid on something that you will be outbid on

I can’t stress enough that you should complete either the SCREEN SELECT or EBAY offer as it is the only way to receive your free gift and it won’t cost you a penny.

4, Now all you have to do is wait for an email to confirm that you have completed the offer and forward your referral link to 5 members of family/friends/colleagues etc to do exactly the same as you have done here.

5, Hey Presto, a brand new SONY PSP arrives on your doorstep for nothing It’s as simple as that!!!!!!

It's not exactly "giveaway". Most of those sites work on a refferral system where you will need to refer people to the system to actually get "free" items. You'll probably need to refer hundeds of people to subscribe to actually score points for anything good, and likely by that time the site dies off and there's no guarantee that you will get anything.

The email you mentioned in your post is likely sent by a refferrer out to earn his/her points. This is also a sneaky way made to sell out your information to third party companies. If you apply or get reffered to this and sign up, chances are your contact information will be sold. Expect junk mail and telemarketers, but no PSP.

"If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is."

There was an article about this exact thing in the gaming magazine, EGM. They said the method does work but it takes time and effort. In their article, they got a free X-box after 1 month. From the email, it seems like the basic gist of what the article was telling you to do. Sign up for a bunch of things using free trial then cancel them at the last minute. Their only tip is to not cancel right after you sign up, wait at least a few days because apparenetly the site will detect it.

Those free-ipod and free-<insert-cool-gadget-here> sites are similar. They work by referral and by signing up for some free trials. I have been tempted to try one of those but didn't because they will make me a spammer. In an effort to get enough referrals to get my "prize" I would be tempted to spam my referral link anywhere... on my blog, in forums (not here though :p), in IMs, on IRC, to friends, etc. It makes me feel bad just thinking about it. It's also the reason why I couldn't continue with those "franchise" businesses like Amway or Quixtar. :heh: But hey, if you're charismatic and don't mind losing friends or your dignity trying to get people to sign up from your referral link or whatever, then go ahead.
