View Full Version : Schwartz, Aswald, and the Black Valley what's their deal?
All the time through MO, the characters have been talking about Schwartz, Aswald, and the Black Valley. But really, what are these three factions? Is Midori & co Schwartz? Do they live in the Black Valley? Are those slaves that show up from John Smith & friends from Aswald?
the show isn't explaining these groups and I'm getting confused by them. Can anyone help me sort this out please?

The Black Valley is the original group that attacked Windbloom back fifteen years ago. We've inferred, based on some cryptic comments made by John Smith and Rad, that this group split into two factions. One is Schwartz, who are currently working with Nagi to (?) break up the current world peace, and the other is Aswold, lead by Midori, working to (?) restore technology and destroy Garderobe.
It's hardly cut and dry... most of what I said is conjecture.
Didn't Rado say in the third episode "Don't compare me with those fools" when Shizuru asked if he was a messenger of the Black Valley?
Obviously that means he's not, but wouldn't he have any loyatly to the ancestroral group?

Not Black Valley but Black Letter ;)
If I remember well Midori call herself and other Aswald "descendant of Black Valley" or something similar.
In the assault of Windbloom 15 years ago we have seen either Aswald and Shwartz but we don't know (If I didn't miss something really important :heh: ) if they was together at time... but is possible and Tremalkinger has some points ;)

Well, the opening scene has Dyne, Rad and Gal all in it, attacking Rena. I'm pretty sure (but since I can't remember exactly where, hence can't check it) that someone says it was Black Valley / Black Letter / Schwartz that attacked Windbloom fifteen years ago. In the third episode, Rad appears to have distanced himself from the Black Letter group, thus pointing out that they and Aswald are distinct groups with different leaders and goals, and parted ways with each other at some point, probably not happily.

It was stated that the people who assaulted the castle were insurgents/rebels/thugs/etc. It wasn't specified who led the assault.
Schwarz is identified by people who use those crystals to summon slaves, I mean, the black letter which carries those crystals.
Aswald are the cyborgs which attacked Rena.
In this case, we saw Schwarz summoning those funky green monsters in the beginning of the attack, this is followed when the Aswald knights intercept Rena after she let loose the baby in the canal. In their backs, we see those green slaves popping up behind them, surely there as back-up.
So probably at that point after the attack, the Aswald knights focused their efforts on regaining Earth technology while Schwarz broke off in their continued quests for the princess since we see them still attacking Windbloom for Mashiro. No doubt their deal with Nagi is to locate the princess which he asked Sergay to continue doing. Schwarz wants world domination, Aswald wants to return to the stars.

But what caused the 'split' of interests? It's possible that Aswald have always been about aquiring Earthian technology, although their tactics seem rather different now.
Judging Rad especially - is it the same Rad - one time he's kicking down doors, seemingly slicing Rena's ribs and even when she's sent the baby/Sapphire down the stream, is totally submerged in hostility for the woman. That doesn't to me seem very technology orientated (I would say they were after either the Sapphire, the Princess or simply had a major beef with Rena) And then in episode 4, 9 and 10 he is somewhat different to that - especially his given opinion of the 'current' Black Valley. His hostility has moved from royalty to Garderobe/Natsuki, and I'm curious to what caused the change...(especially also how/why Youko is working with Natsuki...)

*wipes a tear* That's beautiful..
Yes, Aswald is trying the Civilization game approach of winning by buiding a spaceship and sending it to the nearest star. This grand idea would quite in character for Midori. :heh:

A, Civilization... (the original) those were the days... By a strange coincidence, that was my favorite approach too. 100% Science. ;)
About the sniper in ep. 13: I think he was from Schwartz. He was there taping the battle with the new slave and shot the guy to keep him from talking. Schwartz people seem to have 100% accuracy rate when it comes to firearms (see Smith), makes you wonder why they even bother with those silly slaves. :p

Did we actually see them killed Rena :eyebrow: We saw Rena pulling out her daggers and then a bright flash form the Gem Stone and the next scene was 14 yrs later. Remeber the old rule, if you don't see the body then they arn't really dead. And we never saw the aftermath of the battle or what happen to Rena. She could be dead/capture/escape.

I never said they killed her. I said he may have injured her - Rena was running through the forest with a nasty wound near her ribs in ep 1- and ep 14 seems to suggest that Rad came in when they were planning the baby's escape. So between that scene and the river one, Rena got 'sliced', and Rad was definitely around. But I'm not saying either way, hence me using seemingly.
EDIT: I wouldn't be suprised if Rena was 'captured' rather than killed. And I'm quite for the idea that Rena and Rad ''know'' each other.... :)

Well the Aswalds had to have been after the princess I mean Rad broke through the door, surely he was aiming for the princess.
That or he hates Garderobe and I wouldn't blame him.
She could be dead/capture/escape.
Or ran off with her to do you know what;)

Hence, the problem.

I don't think they're cyborgs, I think those are just mechanical/powered suits.
I think it has nothing to do with going after the princess... They just like kicking in doors! :heh:
