What happened to the fansub of Detective Academy Q? It's been over a month and a half since the last episode. Did they cancel the series at ep 15?

I've been wondering the same thing... :heh:
Nah, it's just that it's too hard to translate and there are many other projects that the fansub groups are dealing with as well.

yep i great show even if it looks a bit childish but i still enjoy it
I checked their website but the only current project listed is Prince of Tennis, so I'm wondering the same thing.
I know, the popularity of DAQ wasn't bad either. It would've been a refreshing new forum depending on many episodes it is.

I love this show too, it feels like I'm watching Matlock but instead of being a old dude as the main character it's a bunch fo cloned anime heros, what could be better?!
I'm waiting for Soldat's subs to come out, they come slow but they come~

The problem is there are too many groups doing the same series. Do we really need 4 groups doing kimi ga nozomi eien? Sure competition is a good thing, but that's really overkill. It's the same with a lot of popular series, shingetsutan tsukihime has 5 groups subbing it. 3 groups is more than enough. One of the groups should really do something else like DAQ. I'm not a fan of the series, but it still deserves to be subbed.
:hmm: According to the anime-otakus irc topic, it says that DAQ is "pretty damn soon"... how soon remains to be seen... :hmm:
It sucks the way they held it aside for other projects. I love this show and can't wait for the next one. I'm just happy that the last episode I saw was not a cliffhanger.
I really hope they pay more attention to this anime. =/ It's one of my favorites. I love Detective anime! ^_^ Let's hope maybe one group will decide to put more time in it.
And I agree, it kind of sucks when 5 million groups are doing the same exact series. ^^;
I especially like detective series, I just love to speculate wild and crazy theories.

I'm really excited that Live-eviL just put out episode 13!! Now that they're back in the game I'm looking forward to seeing this show through to the end.
I believe that it is going to be 26 episodes, but this isn't confirmed. If anyone who's fansubbing this show knows the answer please let me know!
The series is longer than 26 episodes. Ep27 airs this Saturday in Japan. It also has a new OP and new ED. But I don't know when those replaced the older ones ... it was either Ep23 or before that. ^^;
And yeah, I want to see more too. It's been almost two months since the release of Ep14. ^^;; I have Ep25, but it's not that great watching it RAW. :heh:
Hack this is the first detective series I have ever liked. I never liked Conan and I never liked Jintanyi. But this... this is just great.
Especially when they have Ryu as one of the main characters.
The manga series is great too. So they draw heads sort of oddly when they are sideway but the art is still really good considering it's a detective series.
So I really want to see what happens in the next ep!
You don't like Conan?!
But...but...everyone loves Conan!
;)
Anyway, Episode 13 is out huh? I can't believe it. Finally! And I'm pretty sure this series might go to to the 50 episode mark. At least that's what I'm hoping anyway.

That'd be nice. ^^ I like their OP & ED themes. The 2nd OP theme is nice.

mind telling me the name of the op and ending themes?? ive been trying to find them but no luck so far....tho it would help if i actually knew the names.
The OP is called Luvly,Merry-Go-Round and it was released on September 18, 2003. The ED is called Mienai Story or something and it's set to be released on November 19, 2003.
New ending?! I want to see!!! Awww someone please go and release episodes after 15...

It was nice to see a new ep after so long although I was kind of dissapointed that they solved it so quickly. What about poor Megu?! No one complimented her on her swimsuit. :naughty:

Oh good...
I wasn't sure I wanted to watch it yet as I hate months' delays between episodes of an arc...
Can I assume then that's it's a one-shot episode??? Safe to watch immediately? ^_~

Yes, it is a one-shot episode
Oh look its another locked room mystery, but this time under water. The
locked room episodes is starting to annoy me a little cant the writers think of something diiferent, how many locked room episodes were there like 10. Sheesh, I hope the next episodes are more interesting.
Well considering we will soon be entrying another multiepisode arc, I don't think you need to worry much about more lock rooms. I am not sure if it is next episode of the epsiode after the next, but they will begin an arc about a couple of deaths and a plague...

Detective Academy Q and Detective Conan share certain similarities, a lack of fanservice is just one of them. Who knows, Funimation or some other company might move to license DAQ in the near future depending on how successful the airing of Detective Conan (AKA "Case Closed") will be on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim starting April 5th.
Woohoo! new ep by soldats.
Awesome episode. It's so cool to see DAQ back in action.
Did the anime ended in Japan? If it did then it would be a shame cause they skipped my fav arc of the whole series in the manga.

I'm not sure, I thought their wasn't a set number of episodes.

It's no longer being aired, but I'm not sure if it's permanent. I had missed this arc, though, and am happy :D to catch up now.
Did you see episode 45, Lynnie? I would love it if you spoil it a little for me. I just want to see how far they strayed from the manga. (that golden haired man looks so freaky and ugly. Thank God in the manga there is a very handsome dark haired dude instead).

Episode 45 was the last episode, yes? Umm, I don't remember what episodes I had seen actually before TBS stopped airing it, but I'm pretty sure that I missed it. :( The episodes that I had seen involved the arc where
Dan-sensei was kidnapped
if that helps.

Use spoiler tags Ori, not all of us can get the manga.

sry Dranz I forgot a lot of ppl have not seen the new opening. I don't think I spoiled too much though did I? I only talked about the existance of this character, its not like I told anyone what he does in the show.

Hey, what happened to the massive cliffhanger speculation posts? During the 3 ep island murder arc this board was buzzing with kooky theories. :)
This episode seems to be pointing towards the "treasure" of the Japanese army being some smallpox biowarfare weapons which the Japanese were testing on prisoners during WWII. If it were gold, then the people would have spent it. Perhaps the old man would face war crimes prosecution if the weapons were found.
The only problem with this theory is that I hear modern Japanese are reluctant to say there were a lot of atrocities commited by the Japanese army during WWII. It seems unlikely an anime targeted to teens would use a bad one like bioweapons for a storyline.

The Kamikakushi arc wasnt as good as some of the others due to some of the absurdities in the story, and the preachiness at the end but it wasnt terrible.
I just get annoyed with Q. But I am quite bias since I never liked him in the first place.
It's been a while since the last release, and in that time I've thought of something. Asking about physical possibilities is slightly taboo in anime, but since it's supposed to be a detective show I'll ask anyway:
I've seen people be hit over the head(in and out of fictional works) with everything from ceramics to furniture and merely be knocked out or end up with a minor concussion. However, in the last two episodes, two people have been killed with no more than a single blow to the front or top of the skull with a blunt glass or ceramic object. I think it was two murders, since, though the ambulance was called for Asabuki Maya, I believe the word used to describe later was legitimate murder, not attempted. Admittedly, the situation was clearly planned to guarantee thirty to forty minutes at least before anyone would try to help them, but it still feels like there would be a strong chance for the victim to merely lose consciousness and come to later without help. So, if anyone can guess, about how hard would you have to hit a person to kill them in these circumstances?
Basically, it just feels like the murderer was taking a big risk, unlike many of the criminals in this series, and I want to know whether there was reason to be confident in the lethality of the act.

Blunt trauma to the head, inducing concussion or death, is something that has never been portrayed realistically in fiction. I would be shocked if DAQ started to deal with it realistically now.
In fiction it is common for a simple blow to the head to induce sleep without any side effects. In reality the victim receives a concussion which knocks him unconcious because his brain is bruised! This can easily and unpredictably result in death. It can kill immediately if the trauma is great enough or it can kill after a period of delay if the brain bleeds. There are a host of possible complications resulting from this action. Remember, even if your victim is only unconcious, he lost conciousness because of minor injury to his brain. That's why you're supposed to go to the hospital of you had a concussion, even if you wake up.
These people could easily have died from being struck over the head. The unrealistic belief is to feel that it is a non-lethal thing to do. Sure, it is non-lethal reasonably often, if you aren't too forceful -- except when it kills.
Thanks. I do realize that even merely knocking the person out is the result to at least temporary brain injury. What I was thinking was, up until now the criminals have chosen methods that they had reason to believe would absolutely guarantee death, barring unpredictable circumstances(such as a hot light weakening the murder weapon). The only exception I can think of was a woman who was too focused on creating a solid alibi to do a clean, thorough job. The killer in this case seems clearly to be quite intelligent, and has set up the crimes in such a way that there would be no reason to rush and botch the job. This is why the style seems odd. With such a sophisticated, well planned crime, why would the murderer use a method that might leave a victim alive at least long enough to provide a name? The plot would suggest that the murderer felt certain that the victims, given half an hour before any medical help arrived, would never wake up. That's why I was curious as to how hard a blow would have to be to guarantee death over a thirty-minute interval.

Starting a new thread as the last one was locked...
Currently being subbed by Soldats / SHS / IDE/L-E
Use this thread for discussing the series.
Excessive whining about release dates will more than likely result in post deletion from forum moderators YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Anyhow, speaking for IDE/L-E, DAQ has been dragged back from the depths of despair and currently looks pretty stable. We've switched to using Region 2 DVD source for the rest of the way and WE ARE DETERMINED to finish the show (Small note - only Soldats and IDE/L-E releases are proper DVD rips. TV Rips are 4:3 640x480 whilst the Japanese R2's are 720x480 16:9 (NOT 640x480 4:3 and I know this because I'm the one who OWNS the original DVD's). We CAN NOT GIVE ANY WORD on release dates they'll just happen but I will say this.
IDE/L-E WILL RELEASE DAQ A LOT FASTER IF PEOPLE COME AND VOLUNTEER TO QC FOR US. Speak to me gumbaloom(sometimes Professor_Goomba) on IRC.
The current state of play -
Episode 27 - Released yesterday
Episode 28 - Release Candidate 2
Episode 29 - Timing raw with oncreens typeset and OP/ED synched awaiting dialogue translation.
Episodes 30 - 34 - Filtered raws on my hard drive awaiting me typesetting onscreens and making timing raws.
Episode 35 - Will buy the DVD's for Ep 35+ soon. OP3 and ED4 are translated and awaiting further processing.

Please help seed the DAQ 1-26 torrent (http://a.scarywater.net/live-evil/%5BIDE%26L-E%5DDetective_Academy_Q_Eps_1_-_26_%5BBATCH%5D.torrent). It's a 4 GB batch torrent and although 12 have completed finished downloading so far, only the original seed *gumbaloom) seems to be still seeding it.

It's been awhile, but after looking back over the series a question about Japanese law came to me concerning homicide. Among the homicide cases, many were premeditated murder, but there were several spontaneous, or even accidental killings, and I recall a couple that were self defense. All seemed to be treated equally. In some of the cases that could have been purely accidental or defensive, the culprits reacted to investigation as if they were being charged with capital murder. What's the range of crimes defined by Japanese law for homicide under varied circumstances? Would minor acts, like self-defense or accidental death, be treated more severely if the culprit tried to hide the act? I'm curious whether some of the culprits had simply overreacted and tried to avoid a sentence that simply didn't apply to them.
