I read this little bit when I was at the Bleach series section in the main page. I've heard many things about this and also seen a few images. This is supposed to be the second Bleach OVA (ova instead of the movie that was confirmed?). Here is what I have on this:

"It contains the original video animation, BLEACH ~The Sealed Sword Frenzy~. The DVD jacket will be illustrated by Kubo Tite, and will include two postcards. One postcard is of the cover, and the second is the anime version of the cover. The special feature included on the DVD is a no-credits version of the ending sequence.
Renji's going to be appearing in street clothes in some scenes.
Other Shinigami besides Hitsugaya appearing seem to include, Shunsui, Soi Fong, and Yoruichi. The Kurosaki family's also going to be getting time in the spotlight. The first fight scene unveiled is between Hitsugaya and the original villain Bai Shen. The OVA is slated to be a 30 minute production. Kubo's announced that the ending sequence for the OVA will be very tender and touching.
The plot is as follows: A Shinigami named Baishin who was sealed by Soul Society long ago is set free on Earth. On a fateful day Ichigo encounters him and has roughly half of his reiatsu drained. Its now up to Ichigo and Soul Society to finally put a stop to Baishin and his destruction."

It's nice to see that Soi Fon and Yoruichi are working together, and Shunsui and Ukitake will be around for this, but I have two questions about this.
A. Why does Bai Shen look like Doomsday from the Superman dies comic, and
B. WHY is Hanatarou wearing a dress? EDIT: Sorry, ENORMOUS shorts that look like a dress?

I got some more info. It's italian so I tried to translate it in english. Here are both italian and english versions in case someone can translate better:

Questa la dichiarazione di Kubo Tite:

Here's a better translation:

The second OAV dedicated to Bleach, entitled The Sealed Sword Frenzy, will be available at the Jump Festa Anime Tour 2005. Different from the first OAV Memories in the Rain, the story will not continue the plot of the anime or the manga, but it will be a completely original story. For the occasion Kubo Tite has created a new character, the Shinigami Baishin, that will be the new enemy of Ichigo. In addition to that the appearance of other characters from the series like Soi Fong, Shunsui Kyouraku, Yoruichi, Renji, Hitsugaya and the entire Kurosaki family is expected.

This the declaration of Kubo Tite: "I am very happy to be able to participate for the second consecutive year in the Jump Festa Anime Tour. The thirty-minute story seems to be very well implemented and I myself have created the new enemy. I hope that you will want to watch it. As far as I'm concerned I'm anxious to watch the OAV of Gintama ". [Gintama is a manga of Hideaki Sorachi, which is also published on Shonen Jump of Shueisha.]

The Jump Fest Anime Tour will take place at the following dates:

24 september 2005 - Osaka
01 October 2005 - Tokyo
29 October 2005 - Sapporo
05 November 2005 - Nagoya
19 November 2005 - Fukuoka

The new OVA seems interesting but it's a bit short. I hope it won't be too rushed.

This was shown at Jump Festa 2005. It is not our on DVD yet. I'm guessing that Lunar doesn't want to sub something if they can only find the version that someone taped off the screen with a cam corder. :heh:

Unfortunately Starks decided that he needed to create a brand new thread to mention the release of a show that already has a thread devoted to discussing what it is about. Now that this is merged into the relevant thread, I'm sure you can find the answer to your question waiting for you to read it.

I'd suggest you read posts #1, 4, 17, and 18.

Am I suppose to assume that events that took place in the "The Sealed Sword Frenzy" affect the manga? Ichigo knew Captain Hitsugaiya when he came with Ikkaku, Rangiku, Renji, and Rukia as Soul Society's counter to the Arrancar problem. I thought this was a bit strange at the time. When could he have met him? He meets him in this.

Hinamori is shown in the credits moving around. Does this mean she has awaken from her coma? Or is it meaningless since this isn't the manga?

But manga=/=anime. It's most likely in the anime continuity.

My one and only gripe about this OVA was...

how Ichigo went from having probably over half his energy drained to suddenly being able to go Bankai and finish him off out of nowhere; without any explanation or plausible excuse as to where his sudden burst of power came from. But then again, we are dealing w/ Ichigo here, so I guess it should come as no surprise that he had a lot more spirit energy left than he put on. But still, the way it happened just made me wonder why the hell he didn't just use Bankai in the first place. :heh:

*edit*
I think they should've rewritten the plot so that Baishin actually encountered Kenpachi first and absorbed his reiatsu instead of Ichigo's. That would've made Ichigo's Bankai transformation a lot more believable IMO. Plus we could've seen Kenpachi fight a little bit.

But all logic aside, other than that, I liked it. I realize my one and only complaint isn't all that big a deal and I can kind of look over it considering how short it was. Overall, this was a fun OVA to watch. I hope they make another one.

Still a tad confused about the story.

[I am not sure about manga but as of right now he is suppose to be having trouble using bankai. I think it was urahara who was begging Ichigo to learn to use it again. I always thought that you were not allowed to use it since you could get too many people killed so thats why they never use it in the towns. I dont know, its really weird. Theres one reason and theres another reason. Oh well. Since Captain Hitsugaya is my favorite charecter, I wish he would be doing a tad better. Even in the series he never seems to do that well. Even though he is suppositly the child prodigy (forgot exact wording)Time will tell I guess.

If I'm not mistaken it's the instrumental version of "Number One" which you can find on the Bleach Soundtrack. :)

'number one' is quite possibly my favorite theme song ever. I remember back when i first heard the vocalization that starts the song, it was so shocking as a theme in a shonen (to me at least). I listen to it all the time though.

Also, did anyone else laugh at kon the whole time? he is so abused... they should really get him a body to use. i'm sure Urahara could come up with something. since Ichigo has his substitute seal (if that's what it really is) he doesn't need the mod soul or skull glove. let kon be free!

I kind of knew it was the intrumental version to "Number One" but I'm pretty sure that song was not found on the Bleach OST. The vocal version definately is though. In any case, which of the Bleach soundtracks would that song be on? Because it hasn't been on any of the character OST's either from what I could tell. Has it been released on an OST at all?

Yeah, I made a mistake, sorry. The Bleach OST #1 only has the vocal version. But I was pretty sure that the Soundtrack I once downloaded only had the vocal versions of the first OP and ED while the rest was instrumental. (You see, I deleted all songs because of that... :heh: )

That OVA was great...I had no idea it was even out and came across it by mistake yesterday while getting something else...so glad I did because this OVA had great comedy, action and ridiculously awesome style...I too was totally wowed by the super-bishie, psuedo-contemporary ending clips with all the characters...I especially dug the fox-dude sporting the scarf-sash with his suit, that was so damn chill...Urahara and his honey were breath-taking, even Soi Fong looked worthy of moe-fetish^^...Byakuya also gets props for the clockwerk orange threads...Man this was a pleasent surprise and Kon stole the show at times...I guess Inoue, Chad, and Ishida didn't get the memo cause they're no where to be found, but still this is one of the best OVA's I've seen in a while...Felt like a really good normal episode...The action and music was on point all OVA....This thing is not to be missed...I'm almost inclined to give it a 10...

Bullet Train VS. Kenpachi is a draw.

Bullet Train VS. Kenpachi-with-a-sword makes Kenpachi the winner.

I also wish this is how the filler would proceed. The only complain about this OVA was that it was too short. This could have been stretched to 3-4 episodes easily without loosing any of the awe factor. At the same time, this kind of filler could make Kubo's story obsolete. Thanks to crappy filler, Kubo is still the man. May be Kubo has something to do with the crappy fillers after all. :eyebrow: hmmm......

Speculation :I was always wondering how Gin, Hitsugaya,Komamaru and Tosen became Taichos .Why were there vacancies present what happened ?
I think I finall figured it out ~Banzai~.after watching Ova/Oav 2 .Baishin arc takes place 400 years before main storyline . Baishin is a Taicho himself, 2 Died sealing him, Urahara got exiled later .
That leaves 3 vacancies open for Shiro Gin Tosen Komamaru. What about 4th vacancy how was it created ?
Is it correct ?

Urahara was replaced by Mayuri. As to the others, we don't know yet.

...OVA 2 is a little wierd. My bet it's "Random Not in the manga continuum" stuff, so I wouldn't refer to it in the Q/A.

The ova was just another method of franchising to cash in on Bleach popularity. There are a number of unanswered questions which leave you preplexed

How was Baishin released ? How could he break the seal enforced by 2 taichos who sacrificed themselves for the seal .Had Gin and Aizen had anything to do with it ?

Where was Urahara, Jinta, Ururu and Tessai ,they had their day off ?

(The Bridge scene was pretty cool with Shunsui and Ukitake, cool visual )

If I have understood it correctly there is a Bleach Special (The Sealed Sword Frenzy). I wonder when (in the storyline) you are supposed to watch this. I have watched like 42 eps of Bleach so far. And i dont want to watch a special episode that you arent supposed to watch until later on in the serie.

ooo...old thread

I checked this out finally the other day...it was okay I guess...I was really really hoping to see Zaraki come in and fight (tear)

I felt they could of made this a bit longer cause the final fight w/ Ichigo and Baishin was too short IMO...and the overall animation was like..2nd to 3rd Tier. Reused animation w/ the rapid sword swinging Ichigo used to clear out Byakuya's cherry blossom thingies :P

Baishin's bankai form was a bit odd w/ the whole stubby arms thing...though I thought the concept of him merging w/ his sword was interesting.
