Episode 66 Screencaps and Long Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/01/31/bleach-66/)

-Group gets a call telling them to go to museum.
-They wander around the museum maze for a while. It's a combination of Kon's help and Ishida's brains that finally get them out.
-Nova tries to kidnap Ishida, but Ishida uses Ichigo's shinigami license to knock out the mod-soul that's in Nova. However, Claude picks the ball up and returns it to Nova. The three make their escape.
-Ririn honors her deal and returns Inoue and Sado. However, a new game involving their school and classmates is about to begin.

The modified soul aspect is interesting, but it doesn't quite make up for the fact that they spent most of the episode running around a maze, with Ririn laughing evilly every couple of minutes. The whole thing reminds me of like Scooby Doo... Please do not discuss anything past episode 66, or else you risk a ban. Even tags are no defense.

When I first saw Kon, I thought he had the potential to be one of the best characters in the series. How wrong I was... they gave him one episode in which he was a developed character with his own desires and then made him a weak joke for the rest of the series.

I doubt he'll be any different in this arc, but it's nice to see him do something. Haven't seen the episode to comment further.

Kon IS the best character in Bleach, I really want a Kon doll for some reason. He's so damn funny looking in that lion suit.

Um, are you yanking my chain? :twitch: You seriously tell me, that when you open up the full scale image and see the side by side comparison, you don't notice that Ichigo on the right side, although in the same pose, has been redrawn in an artstyle more similiar to the usual Bleach art as opposed to the left side (different hair, eyes, chin etc.)? If that is so, I don't know what to say to convince you.

Point very well taken even if it's eluding Thewanderer. The animators most likely have figured out the story is a lost cause, so they are directing their energy in improving the ending. Really, the ending is the best feature of the filler arc.

Another "time killer hey lets run around and do nothing for 20 minutes episode".. Right now these games seem to be just an excuse to fill up the time of this arc since they dont serve any purpose at all.

Nova is a mod soul so lets assume all 3 are mod souls. How exactly do these mod souls have these powers? Teleportation, illusion control, summoning the "big door"; Kon doesn't have any of these powers. Kinda odd. (yep, i remember that each mod soul gets different powers, but still)

The girl's constant, incisive laugh needs to be toned down a bit. It's not really that funny.

Perhaps they should cut to some scenes where the "villians" are talking to each other to add some depth and character development. Though, that might be a lost cause since this filler seems to be nothing but a fill some time "original story arc".

Kon is the comic relief but i still think hes a great character :D

Could we possibly not compare the shows? All that matters is if it is good or bad, or what could be better about it.

Comparing filler quality does neither show any good and can only serve to irritate Naruto fans for no purpose. Let's just say that you are a bit disappointed with this original story episode, like the Naruto fans are disappointed with their original story episodes. There is plenty of sadness all around.

I'd say that while this arc isn't great, neither is it really bad either. I just have higher standards based on the previous 63 episodes.

sorry ^^ been doing a lot of compare and contrast work lately for English Comp...it's fun blar...

I'm just really interested in where the story is going, of course we know that atleast Nova is a mod soul and that we can only assume about the other 2 and maybe the other 2 of the 3 new people we see in the ED may be mod souls as well and pulling the strings, but it's only speculation. I don't read anything in advance so there's possibly no truth to my assumption at all ^_^

It's cute, IMO.

Sure the character is very cute, but when you want the story to progress and all she does is giggle it gets annoying to me. :frustrated: I mean fight, point out how Ichigo is a moron, taught him, do something! She laughed 24 seperate times in that episode, thats more than 1 per minute.

Also, did Yachiru get a promotion? in the ending skit the vice-cap Nanao introduced her as captain. Soi Fong playing with the black cat was a nice touch too :D

Not quite. Nanao introduced her as the captain of the Shinigami Women's Society. That was hysterical by the way. And it made perfect sense for Yachiru to be the captain. At least it makes perfect sense if you can remember all the way back to episode 6 where the Society was actually mentioned.

I don't know how many people remember back to episode 6, but when Rukia bought Kon from Uruhara she was originally trying to get Soul Candy. When Ichigo asked her why it was named that, she said that it originally had a different name, but the Shinigami Women's Society decided that name wasn't cute so they changed the name to Soul Candy and put it in cute animal dispensers. Now we know the identity of the person responsible for that decision. Heh. Hee-hee. Kyah. I can just see Yachiru-chan creating the "Chappy the Bunny" Soul Candy dispenser. :D

Ah ok, captain of the women's society thing, that makes more sense. I thought since they are 3 captains down they would promote a VC to one of their spots. Yachiru would never accept a promotion to a squad captain though, she would probably have to be away from ken-chan for extended periods of time.

I actually liked this episode. I had zero expectation for the filler arc (and a little scared, too) but the storyline is pretty decent and the animation is still pretty good. If you expected another topnotch, Soul Society arc from the filler arc, you were asking to be disappointed.

I actually liked this episode 66 better than episode 65. Ishida really outshine Ichigo here by showing that brains are more important than brawns and brute power. Now I am looking forward to more Bleach fillers, more of Ishida's talents (other than Quincy talents like sewing, lock picking etc).

And yeah I like the skit Shinigami Cup episode 66. Seeing each doing their things (ESPECIALLY SOI FONG PLAYING BLACK CAT STUFF TOY) before their captain comes, really makes me laugh. Anyone for YoruichixSoiFon??

ps: renji and ichigo really make a better husband-wife team than ichigoxrukia. i am a converted fan of ichiren pairing.

Not a bad ep. Better then the last one. The running didn't seem as pointless as last time. I do hope we find out what the 3 are after next ep as they realy don't seem like bad guys.

Kon's powers are all in his legs, ie running, jumping, kicking. These 3 also should have been active a lot longer then Kon, as all the mod souls were to be destroyed a long time ago, possably before Urahara left SS. These 3 would have to be ones that escaped and have been on the run ever since, if so then they are bound to have picked up a few tricks.

Not quite. Nanao introduced her as the captain of the Shinigami Women's Society. That was hysterical by the way. And it made perfect sense for Yachiru to be the captain. At least it makes perfect sense if you can remember all the way back to episode 6 where the Society was actually mentioned.

I rather liked episode 66. Much better than 65 IMO. Although I can't help but feel gipped when I think that the whole maze puzzle was just 15 minutes of covering up for quality script writing. Although having something to think about was better than 'Run from phonebooth to ramen cart to museum to library to karaoke booth to DMV.' (It's pretty obvious Kubo Tite isn't writing these episodes.)

I just hope this next 'game' actually tells us something as to what these 3 jokers want out of Ichigo & co. rather than what I expect it to be. (From the trailer for 67, I expect everyone to mysteriously be 'illusioned' and start fighting with each other and towards the end some revelation is pulled out of the respective ass of the smartest person in the group. From the trailer I expect that to be Ukitake or Ishida.)

I didn't quite understand how that one t-shirt ninja guy got his little spirit gumball back in his faux body. And I wish they expanded a bit on Ishida's quincy powers. A simple soliloquy would've been fine. I hope they don't go through this entire filler arc without bringing that up. :(

Lastly, I foresee a new Bleach fan product. Kon plushie backpacks. They'll sell like hotcakes. :heh:

There is one thing that I don't understand.

Yoruichi wasn't around when Ichigo fought with Captain Byakuya. How does Urahara knows about hollow Ichigo breaking out during Ichigo's Zengetsu Getsuga?

It's beyond my imagination and logic as to how Urahara knows about Ichigo's inner hollow.

I belive it has been scanlated. I remember findind it with a few of the colorful Bleach stories. I think it was called Shinigami Woman Association.

Oh I'm almost positive the 3 dolls are the 3 mod souls, I think it goes Bird = Rin Rin, Bunny Thing = Cloud(top hat guy, it even has his tie), Turtle = Nova (both have that big x on their back)

There is one thing that I don't understand.

Yoruichi wasn't around when Ichigo fought with Captain Byakuya. How does Urahara knows about hollow Ichigo breaking out during Ichigo's Zengetsu Getsuga?

Yoruichi knows about the mask that keeps comeing back so it's a good bet Urahara does too. Given his back ground he likely knows what it means too, but I don't think Urahara was refering to the hollow but that a full power Ichigo would cause more damage just by being full power then the villians are.

That can be the other way of interpretating it.

Ichigo: If that's the case, Zengetsu's Getsuge Tenshou would damage it right?
Urahara:: It would be in theory but can you hold yourself back while in that form? {Urahara mentioned Kurosaki's name here)
Ichigo:: *looked hesitated*
Renji: It's powerful enough to stand against Captain Kuchki's Sakura. Even if you defeat the enemy, the casualties would be too great.
Ichigo:: What about you? You can go into Bankai and attack with kidou techniques, right?
Ichigo didn't know really understand that the bankai could affect and destruct the surroundings. If he knew, he wouldn't suggest Renji to go bankai also on the enemies.

Sooo.. as an anime only watcher that havent download the ep.. the best question should be ...

Should I? OR Should I not?

I feel like dejavu :twitch:Kina, you have to witness the horror of Ishida's new improvement on Kon by giving him a zipper on his belly. Few moments later it is revealed why the zipper is there. Ishida wanted to store some of his sewing kits and other large objects in Kon i.e look at the pic above posted by Green^2 for reference.:heh: Unfortunately, Kon's stuffing also comes out when the zipper is opened. Oh, the horror!

With all its fault with the original arc, it still has managed to provide good laughs now and then. Renji was the funny one in the last couple of episode. In this episode it was Kon and Ishida. Now only if the Bwahaha guy can be involved somehow.

GREAT episode! Leave it to Kubo (or at least his staff) to come with with the most interesting anime filler ever! Last weeks episode sort of hinted to me that we were going into a filler arc and sure enough when i checked the forums i was right. But after today's insight I honestly wouldnt mind numerous fillers with these sort of twists and turns.

And yeah, I totally agree about the stuffed toys in the ending. The 3 mod souls will def be occupying them.

But speaking of the ending, we still have 3 unreferenced characters from the ending. If the fillers will end at ep 69 I wonder what role they will play, or maybe we have one more arc along the way.

Also, Shinigami Womens Society FTW!

At the same time, that cute little girl is urgently asking for some spanking for her incessant giggles.

A spanking indeed.

The filler arc is vastly more interesting than any that the Naruto-team has come up with by far, yet, the only thing that makes me detest it is the giggling girl.

Honestly, if she doesn't get a good spanking in the end (Make her cry, dammit. Make her beg for forgiveness), I will be a very sad panda. Her giggles drive me mad. If I had been inside that museum, the place would propably be razed by now.

This is why i liked the short moment of unflawed anger and dissappointment in her face as Ishida finds out about their little "secret". I can't stop watching the scene, it's so... satisfying. Am I a mean man?

The best part of this episode was when Rinrin finally shut up. That giggling is beyond irritating. She's a kid, we get it, get on with the story.

That said, it was marginally better than the last episode. The pacing was awful though, they could easily have shaved 5 minutes from the maze. I guess it accomplishes its purpose as filler...

I wouldn't really say it was brains over brawn, just that Ishida calmed down and tried to figure it out. He even said himself that he got lucky because of Ichigo and Renji splitting up.

You don't like Ishida-kun, do you?? Besides.....Ishida was the only one who make right deduction about them being the mod souls.

This filler arc starts to amazing with how the staff is making wonders with the music.

My favorite soundtrack piece was the BGM song played within the maze. It had the Psycho + Friday 13th vibe into it; jittery, build up of terror.

Ishida is whom I most recognized for this episode whose characters traits were the most fleshed out as being the strategist and problem solver for the group.

Don't take it personally, but both Ichigo and Abarai behave like five-year old kiddies or just are flatly stupid.

I don't understand why in many shounen anime they always introduce male protagonists who happen to be that highly stubborn and childish, as being jerks enough to being played by the foes' rules; I'm just getting fed up to watch characters like those.

In summary, the rooms were connected to the same entraces/exits via warp. The reiatsu of the three intruders, whenever they were moving the loops so as the traps could fit into the third room in either horizontal or vertical directions, became distinguishable by Ishida.
The trick was the trap rooms since there were no traps at all due to illusion.

I'm enjoying the modus operandi of these foes resorting on playing mind games and straining our heroes with psychic illusions as to wear them through despair and impatience to weaken them, as opposed to the SS arc with all the excessive reiatsu build up and unleashing of apocalyptic super powers.
These enemies remind me to the psychics of YuYu Hakusho from the Chapter Black saga utilizing reminiscent methods like Ririn, Cloud, and Nova do.

Since Ishida discovered that their mysterious guests are mod souls, I want you to recall on something.

Way back to either episodes six and seven when Kon was very first introduced.

Kon explained that it was the last and only survivor from a batch of mod souls that Soul Society ordered to dispose as their creation was decided to be unethically unnatural.

Since our three guests were found out to be mod souls, one could speculate:

1. Either our fellow intruders came from the same batch like Kon did and also found a way to escape undetected from SS.

2. Or came from a previous batch of mod souls unlike Kon designed with different capacities.

For example, Kon inside a real human body is able to exert hand-to-hand, melee combat whereas the mysterious three are more inclined to pscyhic illusions.

2. Or came from a previous batch of mod souls unlike Kon designed with different capacities.
This might very well be, as this might provide us with some reasoning for why they are conducting this "game" shizzle: because Kon is neither bad nor good, or has any inclination to be either, I would wager the 3 "new" mod souls aren't, either.

I'd make a guess and say the guy at the end of the outro gave them their bodies and now utilizes them, perhaps appearing to them as a great benefactor. I will look for it myself, but wasn't it that Kon using Ichigo's body put it under huge physical strain? Then the 3 fake bodies used by the 3 mod souls would have to be some very proficient novelty, as even Urahara and Renji do not have access to such... unlimiting bodies in this world. Oh well, the possibilities of speculation :heh:

Good episode. Much MUCH better than episode 65. Animation-wise, no complains.

The only thing is, while Rin looks cute in the ED, all the shading/positioning makes her look....bad, in the anime itself. And the somewhat irritating laughter isnt helping much at all...

And if it were based on manga you would be sitting here going " OMG THAT MAZE WAS AWESOME I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT IT WAS SO SUSPENSEFUL ZOMG KUBO TITE IS MY GOD " Really, Kubo's writing or not, people can figure out by themselves (including Zek believe it or not! :D) what's a good watch and what's not. Kubo is the god because he didn't come up with stories like this which is why Bleach is so popular. If you haven't noticed already, most poeple in the thread are talking about the last 2 minutes of the episode which begins with the ending theme, the most enjoyable part of the episode.

A spanking indeed.

Hm, if Kon was the only survivor of Soul Society's mod souls, wouldn't that imply, that our new "friends" were created by some other party, than Soul Society, maybe as a reply to SS's project?
Just because Kon said that he was the only survivor doesn't mean that he was correct. Honestly he isn't the most reliable source in the world. And if you think about it, how much awareness of the world does a little pill have. He wouldn't even know about the fate of a different batch of pills even if he could perceive his own batch of pills.

Personally, I think it likely that these three were put into action before the order came to scrap Project Spearhead. Then these three escaped before they could be killed. Kon wouldn't know a thing about that, so his "intelligence" is likely to be flawed. (Pun intended.)

In the Shinigami Cup mini-episode, Golden, why isn't that Captain Unohana is not a member of the Female Shinigami Association?
Perhaps Unohana thinks the Shinigami Women's Association is silly.

I liked the idea of the maze, not how they solved it though, and also I liked how Ishida found out that guy is a modified soul. Animation wasn't as bad as before, but I hate the three people they have chosen to be the bad guys. The little girl doesn't fit her voice 100%, and the other 2 people look weird! The plot though seems to be getting better, at least for a filler.

wikipedia says she's the president of the Shinigami Women's Association which I think is a more appropriate term

Haven't read the thread yet, so I'll just let it rip...

Thought this episode was good, really interesting with many comical moments (Kon was great this episode xD...Ishida turned him into a pouch :p )...I'm still intrigued and my interest is still piqued by what is going on...Any complaints about last week's animation quality was put to rest with this episode aswell...The CG used in the doorway parts was especially nice...

For whatever reasons I like episodes where you have to figure out how to get out of a maze or trap...The episode wasn't boring in the least and proves you don't have to have 2 guys whaling swords for an ep to be worth watching...This ep served the purpose of getting Ishida, Renji, and Ichigo face-time as a team-trio and Ishida played a good medium to the testosterone-pumping numskulls Ichi x Renji...Still trying to figure out why Nova had a false body and how that little annoying brat (yeah she's starting to annoy me with that laff :p ) uses illusion powers (Does she just manipulate Reisutga?)...Also I wouldn't trust Chad and Inoue just yet...It can't be that easy...

Anyways just another ep setting up the arc....it's only ep 3 and I'm motivated by the evil-characters I see in the end theme and by the villians Cloud and Nova (who i know our heroes will have to throw-down with soon)...So relax and treat BLEACH like an anime that just started...you'll have to give this arc about 10 eps to truley judge...

The only thing that dissapointed me a bit was the Shinigami cup[Golden]...I didn't really get it nor did I laff at it...seemed kinda "meh" :o ... But I finally figured out the end theme this week and those goofy characters seem to be some stuffed-animal friends for Kon (Ishida is too good at this, he's approaching Martha Steward status in sewing and that can't be good :p )...I still think the end theme is too wacky for me and i don't like it that much, but I have a new respect for those dancing dolls...
