You know... ever since after episode 15 Mai-Otome has failed to keep me in that "WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT WEEK?" type of attitude. I can't reall pinpoint the cause either...

Let's just hope we see some action, some drama, and some materializations.

Miss Maria and Yukariko will either die or get severely injured during the attack, and will be replaced by those 2 girls we see in the new OP.

Reason:
From the convo between the Corals about Nao's ascension to pillarhood, we know that only position IV is vacant, which I assume was the one offered to Mai.
So for those 2 new girls to become pillars, 2 more vacancies has to be made.

But neither has ever been confirm as pillers.

Seeing as the Mai- series seems to live on screwing up predictions, I'm not even going to try. What I hope for though, is:
A: Action
B: Bubuzuke Onnas kicking ass
C: Some Materialization (ok, it's not a C, but it's the sound that counts, right? Right.)
D: Durhan's old mistress FINALLY kicking ass
and E: More Mashiro+Arika damnit! Screw having the right letter! XD

During the episode, there we're a much of those flying staves that looked alot like those 2 OP's where Mai kills them all. That gives me a feeling that Mai is going to show up. I mean, Mai, Episode17, almost at the end. It's like she's only going to show up for an episode in action, meeting with the Otome's. Shoudn't a mystery enemy come around episode13 or so? They made her meet them so far from the anime.

Speculations:

1. Natsuki's Materialise!
2. Nina or Arika or both finding out the truth about Sergey/Oji-sama
3. Aswald arriving to fill in about Nagi's plans, although I don't believe they will make an alliance with Garderobe.

4. Tomoe withdrawing from Garderobe and following to join the invitation from whom: could be either Nagi or most likely Schwarz.

5. The other pillars making brief cameo appearances or introductions.

I think Natsuki may materialize in this upcoming episode. I partly agree with #3, but I think they may try to ally or assist in some way. Even giving Garderobe the heads up on Nagis plan is a big help. As for Tomoe joining Swartz, I disagree. The spoilerish OP showed her with what looked like cyborgs behind her so maybe she joins up with Aswald.

I think there's going to be a huge battle in this upcoming episode. Oh wow what a revalation. Last episode ends with a ton of slaves in the sky and Souten predicts a great battle :heh: :heh:
Kudos on changing the poll to include more options. Now the results will be more accurate.

The "stormtroopers" were all identical in appearance, which suggests mass production. It's more Shwartz's area to have numbers.

Anyway, Aswarld is on the side of Mashiro, so there is no chance of Tomoe being on that side.

To back this up,

Add to the fact that she's in the same room as they are.

If you look at the opening, their in the same room. The red carpet under Nagi, then we see Tomoe standing on it as well with the same coloring of the floor. If you don't believe me take a look at it yourselves.

About Miyu; I'm guessing she must be incredibly old. I'd say she's been around since the Immigration Era, when humans first colonised Earl. How else would she know about "Childs" or this "Black Power?"

-Nagi's contract with Nina, and that'd be how he'd set up the events that roll out in ep 18.

In the preview, Natsuki and Shizuru so look to be taking a classic "we're standing in your way" pose, presumably for Asward. So looks like we should see Natsuki and Shizuru both Materialise together.

I wonder if Smith will use his laser cannon to blow up Garderobe a bit? That could "interrupt" Natsuki+Shizuru vs Asward fight for example.

PS In the new OP, you see Mashiro with various refugees it seems, including the little girl who stole Nina's pendant... and who knew the old lady who told Sergay various things about Rena and the "true princess". Her name's Mimi and she even has her own page:

I don't think the Aswald are Cybords or Andriods, that they just wear mechanical suits. They could take them off any time, they just don't want to.

As for Miyu, she's definetly a 'droid and at least as old as the immigration. Possibly even she's the original Miyu from the MH days.

At first I thought it gonna be Third Faction.
When the war break out.
Some country still use traditional Otome as thier force.
Some country like Artai will use hordes of Slave instead.
and some other may got cyborg technology(from aswald?) and got those "stormtrooper".

but from what SoD point out it may be as well Artai that use stormtrooper.
so I start to wonder will they all use Smith's voice as Dyne from Aswald ?
if so they are all Dyne Mass Production Type ? and we're gonna get real "Clone War" ?? ^^"

If she ever becomes a important character or god forbid, have a claim to the royal family, she will redefine angst, anger and frustration. Tomoe will look petty, Midory loving compared to that ticking timebomb.

Not crazy though... Shiho takes the cake there. In fact, I think Shiho is the secret love child of Gates (FMP/2nd raid)

Isnt she a windbloomer though? It is her country after all. Unless she hates Arika so much shes willing to destroy her country to get at her.... Hey I have people I totally despise (everyone does), but I wouldnt destroy my country to get at them.

About Nina & Arika finding out who Arikas Oji-sama is:
Everyone's forgetting how Arika will feel. She's already P.Oed at him for turning her down. Shes going to want to know why hes paying her tuition. If Nina tells her about Sergey and Rena, Arika will be totally distraught.

Remember, she thinks Rena is her mother. Which would bring the possibility that Sergey is her..... Can you say trauma?

If he/she knows what the old lady knew, that is, that "the one with the Souten no Seigyoku is the real princess of windbloom." Then he/she is crucial to the story because that info would rock the very foundations of windbloom

However, Natsuki got to Materialize!! Even though it's kinda short but we get to see her at least a little bit in Robe :D

Also, Erstin is really sad.... Nina kinda "kill" her... by the looks of it.

It seems, with this episode, that Mai Otome has finally started to reach its potential but I think I'll skip the pictures. If something important happens I'd rather see it in the raw than have it spoiled in a picture.

I wonder what the odds of this episode shedding some light on whether or not Erstin is working with someone else. I personally doubt she is but it is somewhat amusing that a character with as few flaws as Erstin seems to be the target of a great deal of doubt and speculation.

Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Part of the truth has been discovered.

1. It was Erstin who received the Black Letter, and I could speculate that she was leaking information to an outsider informer for Schwarz or Nagi?
However, from Erstin looks she did not had any choice and her involvement was unwilling.

2. Nagi arrives and reveals something shocking to Nina.

3. Nagi automatically contracts Nina as her Meister Otome, and activates her Meister Robe overriding Garderobe's system.
Natsuki, Shizuru, Nao, and everybody else are shocked.

4. The Sapphire of Blue Sky glows. Mashiro and Arika bonded and proceeds to activate Arika's Meister Robe.

5. Nina destroys the jewel that Erstin uses to summon the slave, however in doing so, Erstin disintegrates in a flash of green light.

6. Arika is shocked for all what happened, and she's now imperially pissed off against Nina. They start to duke it out...

Actually I wasn't surprised Erstin received the Black Letter. If Sunrise wanted to ramp up the angst factor +10, that would be the thing to do (other than have something happen to Shizuru, which would have raging fans so...best not to do that :heh: ). They made Erstin totally lovable so that any reprisal for her betrayal would be hitting Defcon 5. Though I wasn't surprised, I don't like it. Erstin was my favourite :(

Ok now we saw that, now is the question is to the why? I just don't think Erstin was doing this on her own free will *along with most things*. It seemed like she was forced to do most things.

Now the question is weather or not green-sparklies really means death again? I got a feeling no since there is likely some sort of method that can rematerialize them. That and Arika has a BIG reason to try to find any possiblilty of this as well.

I dont understand though. Was Erstin evil in disguise? Or are those letters random and whoever gets them automatically goes to the dark side (so to speak)? From what I saw of previous black letter recepients, they were all willing people. So I figured they were like sleeper terrorists and the black letter acted like the order to activate them. If Erstin isnt a willing participant then thats not the case....

P.S. where are these pics coming from? Did someone here see the episode already>?

I have the question about that letters too.... Because, Shizuru said in ep 14 that they are too deep infected by the letter/crystal. So would that means, the people are just randomly get it.... although they don't want to do it, but it's something they believed in as their fate? But the problems is that WHO is the person sending out those letter to make the people believed in that........

Maybe they are using the green-sparklied people as a means to power some ultimate power or something. Picture Arika hearing that they are using people's lives as a means to do that.

Maybe the Harmonium or the return of Shinso might have some power to return sparklied people. We all figured that Erstin was the one in the "red shirt" so to speak, but at least she was green sparkliked so she has a chance of returning. That and Arika wants her pillow set now right?

It's taking forever to view all these pics (server is so badly overloaded right now that I'm having to download each *thumbnail* separately), but *WOW*...

First half of the episode seems all talk, again - except for a confrontation between first Irina and the Aswald crew; then Shizuru/Natsuki and the Aswalds; and finally Yoko-sensei and Midori. It stays with talk and posturing, seems like. Nina also has a talk with Sergei, which apparently leads to a meeting between her and Nagi - though this wasn't shown in the screencaps.

Second half is where it gets interesting - Erstin was the one to receive a Black Letter last week, and she goes, however reluctantly, to attack Mashiro who's hiding out in the woods by the school with her maid and Arika. The pendant spontaneously spits out the sapphires again, Arika and Mashiro take the hint, and Arika will apparently spend the rest of the show wearing a *blue* earring. As is good and proper....

Erstin materializes a slave. crying all the while - but apparently doesn't attack until John Smith goads her on. Arika defends non-lethally, trying to talk Erstin down. Suddenly, Nagi and Nina show up - Nina looks a little shocked both at seeing Arika in a meister robe, and at seeing Erstin controlling a slave. I dont understand though. Was Erstin evil in disguise? Or are those letters random and whoever gets them automatically goes to the dark side (so to speak)? From what I saw of previous black letter recepients, they were all willing people. So I figured they were like sleeper terrorists and the black letter acted like the order to activate them. If Erstin isnt a willing participant then thats not the case....

P.S. where are these pics coming from? Did someone here see the episode already>?
Some of them appeared willing, but a number looked unhappy. I suspect that in many cases some kind of blackmail is involved. A "Die for us or your family dies" type of letter.

I would guess that she had been giving Nagi/Shwartz information, so Nagi knew everything except what the old woman told Sergey. He knew that Arika and Erstin wouldn't kill each other. So he tells Nina about Sergey supporting Arika and about Arika and Erstin betraying her about Sergey, turning Nina against them. Then has Nina destroy Erstin's slave, which kills her asnd turns Arika against Nina. He probably realizes that Arika is one of the people required to activate the Harmonium, but not that Mashiro and Nina are the other two. He will probably call Nina off, quite possibly getting Mashiro to do the same for Arika.

I think someone mention this possiblity earlier. That some of the letter goes to people whoare not a part of schwartz and threatens them to either take part in whatever the letter ask them to do or their familiy will be kill. Which is most likely what happen to Erstin.

I just think that it seemed Erstin was forced to do it in some way. It could be that her family is involved with the Schwartz. And I won't be completly surprised if somehow John Smith is assosiated with or a part of her family. It did seem that in earlier episodes I got a vibe that her parents were not exactly good people.

That and it made a big impact by having the first victum be a sweet adorable person. I still think it's about 90% certain she is not truely dead and that something will bring her back. Maybe the harmonium has the power to grant wishes or some other fantastic power. Miyu or even Mai might know of some sort of secret about all of this as well.

One think from the previous episode is that it seemed that the giant orb thing in the basement is likely where Shinso-sama lays in rest. It's more than likely something will happen to that and who knows what powers she has.

Must say that the episode turned out to be painfully unsurprising, but that's what you get for speculating too much. I'm very pleased with all twists, and especially the one regarding the black letter Otome. I really thought that it was about time for this to happen.

Of yes, and the mega-weapons in the end of the episode look just ridiculous. How can you take such a ridiculously huge sword seriously?

I'm aware of that, and that's why I'm not complaining about self-contradiction in Mai Otome. I just think personally think that the word "pillar" would have been better in the context, and so I'm disappointed that fansubbers have been proven wrong. :)

As for Erstin's betrayal, I hadn't expected it coming into the episode. But it became pretty obvious once the episode started and Erstin was all fidgety. For some reason a blackmail angle is likely. Don't you think Erstin is the type that would rather be killed than have someone kill a person she cares about.
According to John Smith, she's doing it because her family has been devoted to Schwarz for generations.

I don't neccessarily disagree with you, but I seem to recall that up until about Episode 20, MH was also pretty sparing with (human) casualties, then went nuts at the end. And we have a [mysterious thingummy with unspecified magical powers] in both series, which hints that there's some likelihood of the Harmonium pulling off the same trick as the 12 Columns.

I'm confused from watching the screencaps. How did Nina get her GEM? I don't see Nagi giving it to her and there was never a conversation between Nagi and Nina talking about the GEM. So why all of a sudden? :confused:

I think those gems are working like the Sky-Blue Sapphire in the manga.
The users (Master and Otome), doesn't have to actually wear them, as long as the gems accepts them, then a contract is formed.

I'm confused from watching the screencaps. How did Nina get her GEM? I don't see Nagi giving it to her and there was never a conversation between Nagi and Nina talking about the GEM. So why all of a sudden? :confused:

I wonder if Nina's anger was the catalyst to turn on the GEM on Nagi's pendant once discovering that Sergey was Arika's patron?

That's more or less what happened: Nina started to crack and Nagi's Ultimate Black Diamond started to glow. It eventually spit out the two GEMs and Nina agreed to the contract with Nagi.

Finnally I have watched the RAW, then I can enter this forum...

Excellent eps. We have 4 Meister "Materialization". And I was right!!!! Erstin IS the otome in shadow at eps 16! And she is the otome that go down first... That one I was right again.. I knew it because she's not in the 2nd OP.

Natsuki's Materialization is much much much cooler than Shizuru's and any other Meister..

Btw, who's that girl appear at the last picture of next eps preview? Mai???

Bleh. I thought post some of my "random thoughts" more often. I had an idea that Smith might have some attack on the Otome system itself - pretty logical way to take the city. I also was wondering the last few days if Erstin might be being forced to be part of Schwartz "just because her grades were good" - and back on one of the older polls, I voted for Erstin to be first to die. As soon as Erstin starting showing "bad guy" vibes in this ep, I knew it was time for her to die. Didn't expect Arika and Nina to be trying to kill each other just yet. Oh well. Erstin = Nicola+Tolle, in terms of driving the main characters to attack each other.

In a way though, Mashiro falls the most in this ep: goes from being just about to reveal her nice new castle and working towards becoming a better queen to her city being invaded and being told Arika's the true princess. Next week she seems to be wandering all alone through the desert.

As a side-note, one thing I haven't seen discussed is that Nagi brought up his own personal army, to "drive away" Schwartz's drones - he's just set himself up to be the (fake) hero of the day. So Nagi has just taken over Wind Bloom and the people will be happy for it...

As for next week: Natsuki seems alone mostly (Shizuru had to surrended to Schwartz in this ep), but meets up with Miyu. I wonder if Miyu will help Natsuki? Nothing showing of Arika, Sergay, Nina or Nagi...

PS Arika - you should have punched out Smith. That way, he couldn't order Erstin around anymore. Or Sergay, you should have shot him.

Did they say so on screen? Because I can't see any words suggesting "ultimate" in the name of the GEM... It's Pitch Black, as far as the kanji's go...

So everyone who bet that Erstin would be the first to bite it and be the Otome with the black letter, give yourselves a pat on the back, hahaha.

Now what the hell can happen now? Sergay's death is imminent, I can tell you that.

Even though so many things were going on I can't give this a 10. I am definitely getting a "rushed" vibe. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

The final shot in the preview looked more like Arika with her hair down... that's just my guess.

It seems Miyu helps Natsuki out judging from the preview (not before doing a little dance first).

I guess I'll have to be the first one to confess to chuckling when Erstin vanished. Bye bye Erstin. Hopefully anyone who experiences the Sparkly Death does not revive, the dead should stay dead.

John Smith's stock rose considerably with me here, he makes killing and orchestrating evil deeds seem delightfully fun.

Despite Sergey being my favourite character in the series, the man should stop pussyfooting around, grab his balls and kick some ass. Even Erstin stayed loyal to "her" cause for crying out loud. I wouldn't mind if he sided with the good guys (would prefer if he stayed with Nagi) but be a man about it.

Well the way I see it Sergay's gonna go the way of Erstin. He'll get inbetween their attacks and be deatomized.

Or else he'll be killed third party kind of like how Tate died in HiME. Instead of Mai downing Shiho's child or vice versa, someone else steps in and whacks him.

I'm pretty sure Nagi sees that Sergay has outlived his usefulness. He's just let the cat out of the bag and what he had been hiding was what he had been employed to discover.

Maybe the North Hound will be able to survive though, maybe we'll discover the meaning behind North Hound. He has the uncanny ability of surviving Slave attacks pretty much unscathed :heh:. Is that the power of the North Hound!!??

Oh wow, this episode was great!

I think the thing that surprised me most in this episode was Ers-chan being with the bad guys, ah well we all know that being with bad guys makes your life short. Too bad for her though, she was starting to grow on me...

I think Nina going bonkers was what many had expected when the truth about Sergay and Arika... Hmm, i still found it a little sad that both the good friends are on opposing sides. I just wish that they won't need to kill each other off at the end. Anywayz, they still haven found the last person needed to activate the harmonium. It's probaly her...

Then on to Shizuru. She was shown being captured by those bad guys. Oh man, just hopes that nothing happens to her and then gets reunited with Natsuki soon.

YES! Miyu's coming back and it seems that she has a problem with Natsuki. I think it's just a temp thing. That street kid we saw in the previous episode seems to have an important role. He/She keeps on appearing at critical times although not much focus was put on her...

Of all the people to be captured, it has to be Tomoe No.2. Why is she so weak? She doesn't deserve to be No.2. And I agree that Nina gets angry over a stupid reason. She needs to think clearly.

To me I think Tomoe is weak to begin with... she used her mind to beat people in contests, not power... that's why she wanted Arika gone, because she know Arika will top her and get her spot... so she must use this type of solution to get all of the Coral Otome she didn't like away.

I mean that's why she wanted to stay as number 2 because she can't go to number 1, since she can't beat Nina.

While I found this episode 99% very good, I do have a couple of problems with it.

The Big One: Arika attacking Nina at the end was very forced and out of character. The formula Sunrise used here usually works in Gundam, with one key difference: the characters there are rivals while here you have friends. On top of that, Nina's rage had visibly subsided when she saw what she did to Ers. Had she not shown any signs of caring or worse yet, goaded Arika on, I could understand it. BOTH girls rushed to their dying friend. BOTH girls knew it was an accident on Nina's part and wholly caused by Ers putting her slave in the way to stop Nina. Angst is a good thing in small doses but here it came off very forced. Sure it doesn't give you a chance for a big explosion to end the episode, but a more in-character reaction here would have been two distraught, crying friends.

The smaller one: This doesn't bug me so much, but there really didn't seem be a need for a Schwarz/Ers relationship. At all. The series up to this point has shown her to be a self-sacrificing girl, the scene would've worked just as well with Ers throwing herself in front of Nina and taking the hit for Arika. On top of that, that Slave was weak. Nina's daggers weren't even in their full form and she sliced it like it was warm butter. All that came out of it in the end was a chance for Smith to bully Ers for a few moments. Beyond that, it seems so short-sighted to give an Otome a summon GEM like that, it's wasteful and on top of that, they never even made her "evil", just conflicted. Personally, I'd rather have had a suddenly evil Yayoi Alter or Lilie Aldeen than a merely conflicted Ers, if there needed to be a Schwarz agent in Garderobe at all.

The rest of the episode was damn good, though.

All I can say is that the shit not only hit the fan, but completely obliterated it.

1: I'm sure a lot of us saw this coming
My beloved Ero-stin was indeed the first major cast member to bite it.

2: I saw this coming, but only on second glance just prior to watching the episode
But it was indeed Ero-stin who recieved the black letter in episode 16

3: Natsuki's Materialization kicks ass

4: Nina is now the bearer of Nagi's Ultimate Black Diamond

5: Arika is once again donning the robe of the Sky Blue Sapphire

6: I knew the moment Sergei jumped between Arika and the Slave that the episode would end in a large explosion as Nina and Arika collided in battle. Anyone else think that the look of fear on Natsuki and Shizuru's faces had more to do with the ammount of power those two are giving off, and less to do with them actually fighting?

7: Finally, the primary plot is coming to life. FRom this point on I am willing to bet that Otome will follow a very similar bath of HiME, continuing on with story advancement, action, and ShizNat. I don't expect any more light-hearted episodes (though a couple moments here and there won't hurt), and I have a feeling this series will end in a bang.

EDIT: I think the odds of a reset at the end just jumped up when Erstin bought the farm (that must've been some farm). As much as I don't want it to happen and to let the dead stay dead... I like I said before I will be VERY surprised (and very pleased) if there is no reset at the end of this show.

I think it has more to do with what Nagi said to her throughout the whole event.
For all her cool outer shell's worth, Nina is surprisingly moody.
All Nagi has to do is set the right mood, at the right time, and there goes her sanity.

And as much as I hate to admit it, Sergay is most likely the next one to go.
Otherwise, he'll make Nina and Arika make up with each other.
Or he'll get taken over by some "Dark Overlord" just like Reito in HiME.

Yeah, the way I see it Sergay's death (if he dies) will cause one of two things:

1. Defuse Nina and turn her back to normal.

2. Complicate matters and create an even larger right between Arika and Nina.

Also, depending on when he dies is a factor as well... normally if he were to die closer to the end of the series, I think it would be safe to say it would bring Nina back from the brink. If he were to die in say... ep 18, it would likely intensify the feud since I speculate the "final battle" will be ep 25 or 26.

2: Why? Because my beloved Ero-stin was the closest friend to both Arika and Nina. Nina, who defeated Ero-stin's slave, will likely snap even more then she had with the whole "Otou-san is Arika's Oujo-san"? Fact is, now the stones are set in motion for the final battle between Nina and Arika.

Also, if we look back to HiME, it was Mikoto (care of Yata-garasu) who defeated Akira's child, thus killing Takumi. Remember Mai's rage? We're seeing that same rage in Arika now over Ero-stin's death at Nina's hand. The difference here being
a: Nina, though Ero-stin was her closest friend, has more hatred over the Sergey issues then remorse for her death
b: Arika is more emotionally driven then Mai ever was.

Conclusion, Nina and Arika are the Otome to beat this time around (typical light and dark power struggle unfortunately) and I don't believe even the 5 Pillars have enough combined power to contain them.

But Sergay might still be able to talk some sense into her if Nagi hadn't pushed her over the edge.

Remember that Nina vs. Arika is basically Mai vs. Shiho part II.
Shiho didn't completely went bonkers until Nagi gave her a little final push.

There's also the gem factor:
If Arika's personality become similar to Rena's due to carrying that gem since birth, then there's a fair chance that Nagi's gem is affecting Nina in a different way.

And unlike MH's Yuuichi, who pretty much knew the reason for the conflict between the 2 girls, Sergay has absolutely no clue what caused Nina to behave that way.
Hence he just stood there wondering what the **** is going on between those 2.

I mean, IRL, I wouldn't expect my daughter to went emo and pull out 2 daggers to kill her best friend just because I've been paying her tuition secretly.

DId you not see episode 6? :p Akane the #1 Pearl performed nice in 14ish was it? But still faltered while Nao took out a tentacle monster with style.

Not to mention that Nao could probably be the #1 pearl if she wanted too but note, she doesn't want that and things started messing her up when she got bumped up to 3(which she said would make things hard for her), and then got chosen to be a Pillar. No doubt she wanted to stick to 4.

For Nao, a good result equals a loaded master and finally an easy life. Unfortunately, like much of what this girl does she basically overdid herself again :heh:

As to where this show can go from here:

The academy took a huge hit with the loss of their base and power to independently activate their robes. It also seems that the next few episodes will see a few more people turn into sparkling motes in the sky. But there are ways around this.

First up will be for the pillars and a number of student to head to an allied country to regroup. Possibly hooking up with Yukino/Haruka since these two have been their strongest supporters. Then they will need a leader of some sort, not a commander for the army of Meister, but the figurehead and someone who can at least grant a temporary licence to activate their robes [see ep1.]

Arika, despite the current evidence pointing her out as the queen, probably doesn't want the job. So like it or not, Mashiro is it :heh: With that out of the way, the thing to do next is to find more allies, and get the biggest freaking gun you can find. I'm betting that despite the Black Valley group showing up for the bash, they were there more for killing off the leaders [if possible] and stealing as much tech they can find before Nagi gets his dirty paws on them. It is unlikely they didn't come away with anything significant, and something both ends of the fight desperately need. Hazard a guess, it'll be whatever is used to create or upgrade the GEMS. If I wanted to screw with the baddies plan for world domination here, I'd take this item for ransom, drive off the invaders then force the academy to give them anything else they want.

That should neatly explain how a rebel alliance would occur :rolleyes: Now, they just need an angst filled Devastator mahou shoujo to complete the crew and they'll be all set to go >_<

As for that Fumi-school-Robe-activation system, they really should've thought hard and made emergency back up plans. I mean that was too easy. And the Five Pillars, it's really a disadvantage for them to get their robes from the school especially in this situation. And they're supposed to be the top five too.

I've noticed a few reused footage in this episode, from the summoning of Gakutenou to Rad VS Shizuru from the first opening (minus the absence of Haruka jumping in). Same cels but different backgrounds. That Miyu-turning-around scene in the desert also looks familiar. :uhoh: I really hope the next few episodes will be of higher budget like near the end of this episode.

On Erstin.
She tried to kill people I care about, yet she sacrificed herself for Arika (don't really care about Arika). I don't hate her or feel sad about her death. Her cowardliness and indecisiveness forced her into the situation that got her killed. If she really cared so much about her friends she wouldn't have tried to kill them in the first place. It's not like Smith forced her to do it. He just reminded her of her roots. Getting killed by the one she loves, talk about cruel fate (or poetic justice as I like to see it).

Poor Mashiro, welcome to being one of the peasants. I do see Mashiro's current predicament as a good way for her to become a even better queen in the future. I don't think Arika will want to be the queen, but if she does I hope Mashiro becomes the Shadow Otome with the huge sword.

Natsuki I feel your pain, you get to use your robe for the first time and then it gets taken away from you, it is just so unfair.
It looks like Nina and Arika blasted Guarderobe off the map or at least turned into a smoking ruin.

I give this episode an 8. I just hope the other girls aren't turned into robots or used as living ammo for the big gun. May Shiho be one of the lucky that got away. Got away to the sea of sand. I bet Arika is the one that cooks the snake for poor Natsuki.

I'm in a really bad state of denial right now. Never saw it coming. How could Sunrise kill Erstin like that ?? WHY ?? I know it makes a lot of sense and it makes the story damn entertaining and exciting. BUT.... it's Erstin damnit.... She's the nicest girl in otome universe. I don't know whether I should applaud Sunrise (for making a good story, by killing a very likeable character ) or hate them for killing erstin.:upset: I see it now that the reason I speculate that the black-letter-otome was Irina is because deep inside I don't want to see Erstin die. She's so nice and also the only reason Nina and Arika can be friends again after the Sergay incident. This makes it very likely that either Nina or Arika is going to die at the end. I really love the friendship between those three, damnit.

2 things that come into my head while watching this episode: The road to hell really is paved with good intention, and the world is unfair. If Sunrise can keep killing likeable character for the sake of making a good story though, Mai-otome is going to be in top 5 of my most favorite anime. Please don't back-off and pull a GSD, Sunrise.

PS: As much as I like Erstin though, a reset would make all the story development go to hell. It would make her sacrifice meaningless. So, I'm against a reset. You will be missed Erstin. *goes away to cry*

Just watched the raw...damn....I'm speechless. I'm a little sad that they killed off Erstin but...gotta admit its necessary for the plot to go on. And Nina....she totally lost her calm when she learned the truth. Well, I won't go on repeating stuffs mentioned by others but.....I seriously think Arika vs Nina fight is either going to end in a draw or end with Arika losing. Even though Arika's good in combat, I seriously doubt she'll be able to beat Nina as she is now. Hmm.....she needs more training:rolleyes: . Anyway, I'm really hoping Miyu will play a bigger role in Mai Otome. She seems to be the only person who knows the truth about Arika.

Anime was about the only place I wasn't completely cold. HAHA. Not anymore. You know, I thought Erstin's death would provoke more of a reaction in me, since I seemed to be the lone follower of Nina and Erstin as a relationship (don't get me wrong, I still like ShizNat), and it didn't. Actually, it's persuaded me it's time to go find a different series to watch alongside (I like one series at a time). How absolutely bloody predictable. Now.. well, thats one big (predictable) f*** up. :) And I hoped for something more.. Erstin as a (first) death? WOW! DAMN, I MEAN, NONE OF USE SAW THAT COMMING, RIGHT...? Hehe.. and it could have been someone like.. say.. Nao (don't get me wrong.. she is my.. what.. 3rd fave character this series. To me I think Tomoe is weak to begin with... she used her mind to beat people in contests, not power... that's why she wanted Arika gone, because she know Arika will top her and get her spot... so she must use this type of solution to get all of the Coral Otome she didn't like away.

I mean that's why she wanted to stay as number 2 because she can't go to number 1, since she can't beat Nina.
No, no, wrong.

Remember the graduation tournament? The only fight we're shown is the last fight, Tomoe vs. Arika.

If we assume that this is a standard single elimination tournament (and it probably is), that means that Tomoe, Arika, Nina, and the unnamed 4th place finisher had to beat effectively about 1/4th of the class each, either directly on indirectly. (And then, because Tomoe is the first alternate, she beat the 4th place offscreen.)

However, if we assume that Nina is automatically in the graduation battle due to her No.1 Seed, then the finals are Tomoe vs. Arika, with both of them having rampaged through 1/2 the class directly or indirectly.

Put in that light, even Tomoe lost and got kicked around by both Aswald and Schwartz, she doesn't look that bad, does she? Sure, Shizuru is still effective without her robe, but she's a freaking Pillar, 3 levels (Pillar > Meisters > Pearl > Coral) above Tomoe. Can you honestly expect Tomoe to be some badass hand to hand combatant on the level of Shizuru at this point in her life?

Then, on top of this, if we accept that Tomoe is perhaps the 3rd best battler in the class (well, maybe, there could be better people that Arika beat on her way up), it's clear that Nina is actually slightly superior in some areas that Otomes are graded on. I don't think we know how closely contested No.1 and No.2 are, but I suspect that they're very close indeed, with Nina having a clear edge in battling, but Tomoe doing better in some of the social activities and intelligence tests, and maybe them splitting some of the other technical activities like sewing and what not.

EDIT: A clarification. I'm aware that in combat, you typically can't use the transitive property to determine strength (A defeats B, but B defeats C, so A can defeat C and is the strongest), because of differing combat styles and matchup issues. However, given the nature of Coral Otome combat and training, it's relatively safe to assume that everyone is using roughly the same moves and has had roughly the same training, so aside from prodigies like Nina and Arika, you aren't going to get any surprises.

An observation: Arika's pendant responds to her whenever she has the desire to protect a person or people. Nagi's pendant responded to Nina when she was highly emotional. hmm...

On topic- I know I should be sad over Ero-stin's death... but I'm more interested in what happens to Shizuru. 10 bucks says she shows up out of nowhere and Natsuki says "welcome back" and we never know >_>;

I am betting on Arika and Nina's little explosion thowing everyone off allowing Shizuru to make her escape.

Intresting thing is with Fumi casket/holding tank crack. Are we going to see Fumi take up the fight and be a real master to the Pillers:eyebrow:

Also from the preview it seems Natsuki si going to have a little run in with Miyu. Hopefully Miyu is going to play a bigger part form now on and maybe asnwer a few question. I am of the opinion that Miyu besides Rena is probably the only one who knows the full truth behind Arika.
