Translators!!! Help!!!
We need someone to translate the final paragraph of the article above. Because there is a small possibility that the Mai Otome OVA might just be a compilation of old scenes compressed, like Gundam Seed specials.
I am hoping it's a true extension ova continuation rather than redrawn recap, so can someone please help clear it up for us?
I've just found this scan on Tachibana's blog, mentioning a Mai Otome OAV. Can someone translate the text?

It is true. A Mai-Otome OVA has been confirmed already in the works.
MOON PHASE (http://www.moonphase.cc/cgi-bin/news/news.cgi) states that the OVA will have a duration of four episodes.
The first Mai-Otome OVA episode will premier this July in a limited TV broadcast, before coming out for sale at fall.
I sort of figured that would happen. There's no way Otome could wrap up properly in these last two episodes. W
There is further confirmation that the OVA is indeed true.
The cover of the May issue for Megami Magazine further confirms it.

At this point and time... I don't care about any OVA from Mai Otome... since the show sucked really bad, to a point I don't want to know what happens and happy it'll end tomorrow. Then I got this weird feeling, because I like Mai Hime yet I don't like Mai Otome.
If they really want to spend money on something good and make the fans scream, I would really like them to actually make that Fake movie instead.

That's really good to here. I'd rather they took their time making the ending really good instead of cramming it into the last 2 eps. I really hope this isn't just a digest of the series put into 4 eps. That would be a downer tbh. I want more MAI universe!

Well I'm a boy, but I too think a ShizNat special would be super happy fun x 100. Something a la the GreenGreen OVA could net Sunrise zillions and make me the happiest (naughtiest) camper in the world. I'd like to see an older Kuga/Fujino (college days?) but a Kruger/Viola would still delight.

The biggest problem with the 'extranious' things associated with Mai Otome so far (the drama CD and the DVD extras) have been that they've been too reliant on fan service. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy fan service (see my avatar :heh: ) but I'd like to see them actually advance the plot with some of them. Fan service is only enjoyable when backed up by plot, and Otome needs plot more than it needs fan service right now.

Otome is no HiME and jumped the shark a while ago, there's no hope for a proper plot redemption at this point, so I'm just looking forward to lots of service (ecchi or otherwise, maki, maki, maki...) featuring all my favorite characters.

So this OAV is going to be broadcasted on TV? This is the first time (for me) that I hear an OAV is going to be shown on TV before the DVD release date. I hope the quality will be a lot better in this. :p
But if it will be shown on TV, then it must have some significance to the plot, unlike the DVD-only extras where nothing major happens.

OAV stand for "Original Animation Video" so I don't think they'll be broadcasted. THey normally go straight to DVD

These days, some OVAs get broadcasted on TV as a form of advertising.
(e.g. Diebuster, the New Hellsing OVAs)
But my question earlier was not answered; is the OVAs new stories, or just one long recap of Mai Otome with nrew scenes added? (e.g. Gundam Seed OVAs.)

Well there's a line to just how much you can do. Too much of a good thing can be bad. Take tactical Roar for instance, I don't mind the fan service but it was simply too much and the character designs wasn't too much to look at either.
I just watch Mai Otome because......actually I don't know why I even watched it in the first place:heh: Sergay and recently Nao are my favourite characters.

I still don't see how they can wrap this up in 40 minutes, but its good to know they won't leave the otome universe just yet. Either way, I am enjoying otome more than I ever did HiME so whatever they do I'll be happy. (Unless its reset!)

Anyway, this OVA cannot be as bad as the series itself, can it? :) If you ask me, it should either follow the example of Wolf's Rain or have only fanservice, by now we know that plot development is not exactly Mai Otome's strong point. But since it's Sunrise we are talking about, the first option is definitely ruled out, the second one is not exactly the most likely one, so I guess they will try to present the MO plot as something that makes a little bit more sense in the OVA and will probably fail.

I beg to differ. Nao in sexy underwear, selling illegal porn or Haruka blushing and hitting her foot with her Element are events which are much more important than what we saw in half of MO's episodes. :heh: More interesting for sure. :)

The Shizuru / Natsuki storyline was incredibly well written, and that's the reason why the pairing has so much support. If the plot wasn't there for the basis, it wouldn't be anything special.

This might sound like a complaint, but why do they need to introduce new characters? There are so many to choose from in the Mai universe, who could use some more character development. I guess if it's a new villain or two, ok that would be fine, but I really don't think that we need even more people added to the already huge cast of characters.
But on the other hand, yay! I'm happy to see them keeping the Mai series going! :D

My view of Wolf´s Rains ending.
The one who leads the gang makes it to his "dream world" which is just the same as the one before. A world where he gets to go on a travel with the other wolves and the flower girl. And that makes you wonder if the world before (the world they travel through in the story) also was a "dream world"?
And yes, I agree, since we had a reset ending in Mai HiME, I think Otome will do better without one.
It was such a long time since I saw Wolf´s Rain so I can´t remember any names. Sorry about that.

Hmmm....I thought the Drama CDs sort of explained that but I suppose they can do a flashback thing in the episodes. According to the drama track, Chie is the one responsible for Tomoe's fetish LOL.
But I would be curious to see a flashback of Tomoe as a kid when she snuck into Garderobe to see Shizuru...apparently her obsession began when she was a young tot.

It's best to take sites like that with a grain of salt. Probably just a mistake. With information coming from legitimate sources like Moon Phase, it's most likely 4.

Well, think of it from the business point of view. I think it is an experiment on Sunrise's part, at least to some extent, to analyse the market. To what purpose? Well, as far as I can tell, Mai Otome has done fairly well. For a late-night, quite possibly rather low budget shoujo-ai anime series. Kind of like Scream (low budget restricted genre flick (Mai Otome, anyone?) goes and makes a giant profit), but in the world of anime. However, Sunrise isn't in such a position to just jump into a follow-up series (this ending, and the series as a whole suggested that Sunrise learnt from HiME, and moved on from it - including the jump to new universe), perhaps because sponsors are a little dubious and Sunrise lack financial backing, but have enough resources to do a four episode OVA. The sales of these will then be used to determine the market for a continuation of Mai Otome, since this is new for the Mai-'s, people may not want a sequel, but a fresh plot. I think it's safe to say, if the OVA's sales mixed with the series DVD sales hit a specific point, we will definetly be seeing a Mai Otome straight sequel. Perhaps a certain DVD sales to OVA sales ratio, coupled with a profit margin on DVD sales, will give the desired effect. I would have thought so. So, people, you want more OTome, skip buying the DVDs for the series if you will, but just buy the OVAs from a legitimate Japanese source. Of course, I could be wrong, and Sunrise could just be trying to compensate for a loss by releasing a rehash 4 episode OVA to compensate for lack of DVD sales, but I doubt it.
Plot wise, I hope Erstin magically appears, Nina falls in love with her, Arika turns up from the Otome universe, convinces Nina she should come back, Erstin, Nina and Sergei are dragged back through that archway back into the Otome universe by Arika and Mashiro, greated by a giant group of Otome characters that just happened to be standing there (in the crowd we see, Nao and Shizuru giving Natsuki a.. bit of trouble ;) , Aoi with Chie (w/ glasses) and Shiho standing behind them doing her maki-maki thing, Maria in "hey, I just halved my age for no reason at all" mode, et cetera), all in OVA episode 1. The plots of 2, 3, 4 then continue on par, excpet Nagi breaks out, finds Smith's brother, and starts his evil plans all over just in time for Otome Series 2 which takes a larger leaf out of HiME's book and mixes it with Otome style. Leave to cool for four months, then serve once a week, 26 servings. But what the hell are the chances of that? ZERO!! And it doesn't put me off one bit. I loved the Otome ending.

It's best to take sites like that with a grain of salt. Probably just a mistake. With information coming from legitimate sources like Moon Phase, it's most likely 4.
I went ahead and reported the error on Animenewsnetwork's site providing the link to the article from Megami stating it was 4 episodes. My report is pending so hopefully it goes through.

Hmmmm....I was thinking about that the other day too. Since I use to work at that hellhole (Bandai Entertainment in Cypress), I still have some sort of direct contact info...unfortunately the only contact info I have on Sunrise is their marketing department but it's a start I suppose.

From a rather poor translation of the offical site's small page on the OVA by OCN (but what the hell, it's nothing like as bad a translation and you can get with Google's service) I gather that Sunrise are basically screaming "we haven't finished squeezing money out of this one yet by a long way!".
It pretty much says (my translation of the translation of the page..):
"Due to large popularity, and the fact that the series "Mai-Otome" finished succesfully, the "Mai-HiME Project" is not finished! The large project that accomplised the evolution from "Mai-HiME" to "Mai Otome" is due for continuation. Introducting, the third installment of the "Mai-HiME Project": "Mai Otome" OVA. No, Sunrise is playing to the masses, keeping the majority happy with the knowledge that the small selection of people who are not quite so happy will still buy the DVDs regardless.

You're right about movie 1, but not about movie 2.
The first half of Movie 2 was based on the original script of episode 25 which couldn't be animated because of censorship and budget problems. The second half was original, and made for the movie, but it mostly followed the original outline of episode 26, though with some modifications to fit with the first half.

I hope they continue the story of the Otomes ... and as i am a huge fan of
Arika - Sergei .. . i would like to see them together because i believe that Arika will do better than her mother.. and she will also be happy as a woman with Sergei...
( by the way.. i hate Nina).. what can i say more.. i hope u won't kill me for stating my opinions about this :D .. anyway

i think the most likely things that will be in theese OVAs is either showing the connection between the two series or some side story...
i agree that the Otome ending was crammed in the last episode and it could be made in a different, better way but... it doesn't seem logic to come now with details about that ending.. i mean it may be logic but what's the point when u already know where u'll get? ...
all in all i really hope they will make them good.. :)

Plus, they said that the 2nd character poll would help determine what characters get into the OVA. I hasn't even been a month since then and if I remember correctly you can't produce an episode of any animated series that quick unless the animation is really low budget (i.e. Flash animation).
EDIT: Actually, if I remember correcty, only the first of the OVAs would air on TV and the rest would be only on DVD.

Anyway it's common knowledge that it's already been mentioned Summer for the airing and fall for the DVD release date.

It's not a second series, it's only a 4-episode OVA that takes place after episode 26 of Mai Otome. The OVA is called Mai Otome Zwei (for now). It will air on TV in July. This July.
I don't think that Mai-Otome Zwei will be aired in this July, because I haven't seen any Japanese info that says so in internet boards (including 2ch), blogs, magazines (for example monthly TV program magazines or anime magazines), etc.

I don't think she'll ever stop being Mashiro's Otome.
I doubt the Sayers/Searrs line will die out with her, though. Miyu said her Ojou-sama's line was growing strong. I'm sure there are more out there with hair that glows with Alyssa's light.

Nagi never controlled Schwarz. He was allied with them, but surely the entire cult wasn't there. They seem to be everywhere, lurking in the shadows. They took a blow, losing so many Slave Lords and one of their leaders (Smith), but I'd doubt that was the end of those who use the Black Letter.

The gift turned out to be the raw materials that Airies needed to finish the construction of the Suzushiro, Haruka's elite warship. Originally, Remus was the raw material provider for Airies who were building the ship.
But once Remus joined Artai, after the whole world witnessed the Harmonium in action, it posed an embargo on Airies and shut down all relations with the country.
They knew that Airies was pleading support from all the different nations across the world to stand against Artai, but Remus along with Florence switched to the other side naively believing that they will get their own share of the winnings end.
Oh, so that it was :)

The ship itself was long finished. It broke down on the way to Wind Bloom at the start of the series (and Haruka had to tow it there herself). It's why Yukino & Haruka were late to Mashiro's coronation.
The secrecy of this OAV reminds me of the secrecy that Hideo Kojima maintains with his Metal Gear Solid Games...

We don't really know. In fact, we don't know if anyone knows exactly what it was fought over. It was 300 years ago and so destructive that the planet was rendered barren and the Black Valley disappeared (thought destroyed, truthfully just put into a pocket dimension). Most technology from that day was destroyed. The Otome, the Aswald and the Schwarz all maintain various tech from that time, but some places are so backwards they don't have telephones (Artai).
All that's really known is it involved 12 kings, Slaves, Otome and the Harmonium. Fumi was involved and emerged as the Shinso of modern Otome, founding Garderobe, etc. The Aswald were rendered homeless and considered cursed. Various 12 Kings War installations exist across Earl. Beneath Fuuka Castle (Harmonium), in Aires (that lab where the advanced Slave data was), beneath a lake in the desert (the Crystal Arena that seemed to be the old Otome control center), etc.

I hope Mai-Otomoe Zwei will explain more about Asward's past. Who they were before they became cyborgs and what relationship they have with Yohko. I would like to see more screentime of them and see them fight more. It would also be nice if they could somehow uncover some new techonology to bring back Lumen to life. The way he was killed in the anime was really lame and there was really no point in killing him. He was quite a interesting, cool and amusing character.
what about Sergey X Nina? I need more infomation about them later in that sequel...

They said July, and nothing so far. Aren't the television schedules posted a week or two weeks in advance in Japan? How could it be that its going to air shortly and we don't know about it?
We still don't know where it said July. So far, all we know for certain is that it will be broadcasted in the fall of 2006. Fall could mean any time between July to October. :uhoh: I believe the fall lineup of anime usually starts in October right?

Of course, there are OVAs aired on TV before DVD release, as you said. But there are also a lot of OVAs that are released only with DVD, for example Ah! My Goddess episode 25 and 26 of the first TV series, School Rumble 一学期補習 and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid わりとヒマな戦隊長の一日, and I think that it is an exceptional case to air an OVA on TV before DVD release.
In the case of Mai-HiME projects, I think it has a tendency of reduction.

From what I've gathered so far, I'm guessing that Zwei team hit a very debilitating snag late in the production of the OVAs.
It's the only explanation for the complete lack of OFFICIAL information so far... The ANN summary is still completely unverified.
