Man i hope no one has asked for it yet but... could i get the haruhi mikuru ear chomp with a rounded boarder one colored outside and then a white one inside both 1 px. I have not yet downloaded the raw.
Sad to say, I've seen a couple of ear-chomp avatars, although not exactly like the way you described. I think I just saw my avatar, I'm just thinking how I'd do it though. xD
Also... does this anime have a artbook or something?
I'm not sure, but Haruhi wasn't in Noizi Itou's Gu-ren artbook. I don't know if she has any other artbooks though.

Those are all AS safe... the size limit is 50000 bytes (the biggest one you've got is 34380 bytes or so )...

Please people...watch your signature sizes. Combining those side "slices" (Sig Slivers) onto existing images is pushing some of you over the size rules (http://forums.animesuki.com/faq.php?faq=rules#faq_rules_3_1). Any image or combination of images must be 50,000 bytes or less. If you add up your main image plus the smaller side "slices", it all needs to total 50,000 bytes or less.

If you combine text with an image, we require it to be two lines or less and the image(s) to be 120 pixels tall or less.

Please go through and check to see if your signature compiles with the rules. The Sig makers here put a lot of time and effort into making the Sigs for you. Thanks.

What if you place the same picture twice (from the same link)... isn't it technically loaded just once...

In that scenario... would that count as the size of the original or the size of it as if they were loaded both as separate images...

I'm asking this because I'm curios if people can use a signature sliver multiple times in a single signature without affecting the size :)

Or are they both loaded separately... as individual images :(

I think it needs more cleaning to do =x

Lol wanna be careful I think I put too much text on there as it is :P, tried to make it like a newspaper background saying "SOS BRIGADE VICTORIOUS!!!" and "SOS Brigade wins by a landslide!". Being how Haruhi loves to win I made it look like she would hug me to death :p.

Which would be quite annoying. ;) If we count the combined dimensions (width/height) of all images, then we have to count the combined files size of all images...regardless of whether or not they're the same image. :)
Or are they both loaded separately... as individual images :( They're both loaded separately because the browser has to render the image in multiple spots on the web page.

Don’t get me wrong: I love the little Sig Slivers. :D They’re very cute. They remind me of "user bars (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=31400)". Just optimize the JPEG or GIF a little more and everything will be fine. Cheers. :)

This is a better source file. What happened is that I wanted to see if its possible to remove the background or change the color to a uniform white or something since that would be perfect for a 500x160 or the 500x120 sig. I ran into a wall with this idea since no matter what I do, I can't wipe the background without leaving 'artifact' all over the place. (An unintended bonus is that if you can do it you can get this thing to <50kb limit)

I read it the first time and I thought "Ego spina meae reticulationis sum" as "I am the spine of my net". (which is why I found it very amusing but then again, I never took latin). When you translated the whole thing I was really surprised.

Packet 's root in English must not be of Roman origin (Fasciculus shows this, I know that word from Fascis, the bundled axe). Milliard I do know has a Latin root... wonder if 'table' or 'database' might have a closer ancestery.

The only animated part is the face of Haruhi: try make a selection of that part and paste it on the first frame (or the one you like most) than save it with the name of the original frame where you keep the selection. with only 5 frames it's a quick job ;)

The method I use to check for bad pixels is to add a thick stroke to the layer.
After that spotting the pixels is easy. :)

I use to fill trasparent parts with "magenta" (rgb(255,0,255)) to spot the artifact but still with a so so 15'' LCD at 1400x1050 resolution I need a lot of attention @@... and I made the previous pngs in a hurry ;)

(you tell me... I didn't sleep again because of that sig. I had to basically learn ImageReady on-the-spot. Not that I regret it since it is damn powerful)

My monitor's also LCD, @ 1440x900. I think I want a 20.1" as well and go dual monitor...

The Megatokyo forums were packed with Haruhi avatars for the first two weeks after the show came out. They've started to be slowly replaced by other avatars as the bandwagon craze starts to slow a bit... but for a while there you had nothing but Haruhi's everywhere.

I have to say this came out REALY good in a sig silver, not that the others didn't but.., I've always found this picture of Asakura just amazing.

Especially trying to keep the size under the forum limits.

Certain designs require more work and are tedious because you need to remove the background in all the frames.

Oh! I love new slivers... I guess I may steal a couple or more (to bad Kyon has no cover for him because the old one I have now doesn't mach too well with the new)

But really, melange, you must collect all the slivers and add-on you have made in a stand-alone topic (in fan-creation for example) , because the growt of this one tend to hide them very quickly ;)

For what I can see almost all (gifable) scene with Yuki or Tsuruya are covered; we have the first ep but it's not this good source... for example:

The last one I did was the newspaper sig which Shiro has. And well we got to wait trying to find some good pictures of Mikuru the others have too much text. But dont worry sometime soon Ill get fully working on sigs. Right now I got that crazy wall Im doing at the moment and its taking almost a month, but thats a good thing because you gotta take your time to make it look good ;).

Anyway this time I've got the raw as son as I can... I didn't understand too much but I enjoied it... and of course I have the first av (raw quality was very low, but now I have a better one for future job)

Its a little jumpy >.< but its alright, with the way I looped it, the gif was never going to be perfect. I did giff the whole scene if anyone wanted to make anymore out of the scene.

Well the main reason is probably because (as the Fav Char Poll suggests... ) people hate his guts ^^... I have to admit that when I wrote my post in the thread his name didn't even cross my mind... his smile and care free attitude are too extreme and usually just give me the creeps :upset:...

Considering his position as a main character in the show... you might say (considering the poll) that he is the most "hated" (less loved/liked) character in the show... sorry... hope that didn't sound too bad :(...

Hmm I don't think it's the case that everyone hates Itsuki. Itsuki's lack of popularity could be simply becauase he hasn't had much airtime compared to the other main characters. Also it must be noted that Kyon was antagonizing Itsuki a fair bit through episode 00 thus lack of introduction + Kyon antagonism = low popularity Itsuki.

Sig/Avatar Tutorials [Read Guidelines]... it's been discussed there for a very long time if you have questions it's better to post them there... so future sig makers can learn from them... *like you :rolleyes: *

Also there are a few posts in this exact thread (the one we are now) about how to capture for the Haruhi ep... I suggest Rikers method...

Also... there is the How to make your own animated Gifs (ImageReady/Virtual Dub)... try reading a couple of pages (the first are more or less filled with "thank you" posts... but the later should be helpful)... even if it's for avatars... animated sigs are very similar...

You might want to try a Search on the subject... in case I missed a source...

To answear your question : Try making it smaller... try adding a border... other techniques in the first link (last pages or so)...

1.) Cut the height to 120 pixels. Why? So you can put a 1 or 2 lines of text below if you want. Also, it helps reduce the file size so that it fits under 50,000 bytes (48,133 bytes to be exact).

2.) Cut a bit of the dead black space off the sides. Tighter is better. You'll understand that once you get older.

3.) Reduce the colors to 128 from 256.

4.) Add a border. I put a alien green border on this one, but you can do what ever you want. Adding a border helps cut down the file size.

I tried to do a thread search which gave no results so i hope i'm not repeating a request here. I'd like to request a sig(heck maybe a recruitment thing for other ppl to use too) which is a parody of the Uncle Sam "I want you for U.S. Army" poster. Its good! Gif, and before I say anything you could just duplicated the second frame and then move it to the end and it will loop more smooth. Though there is a couple of things more things you can do with it. I dont really need to write this much, but I feel like it :heh:

1)Change around some the frames and/or change the delay
->No delay
->Duplicate some frame
2)Add a Tween to the end of it (though I havn't done that)

That scene was my first choice for Koizumi av but... the problem is that is a camera pan sequence, and the raw (and the sub too) has some serious gradient's problem (and it's worse when you decrease the color palette). So Itsuki doesn't look good in that, even in a static av. But, probably, someone has a better, raw or is more skilled (and patient :heh: ) than me :D

Perhaps I should post a request. I need a better avatar than what I can make myself (as you can undoubtably see). I was trying to go for the cat and SOS brigade, but it just didn't work out, and I haven't had the time to try again since I made it (and even if I did, I don't really have the skills, so it'd probably turn out just as bad). So, I'm wondering if any of the amazing artists here could come up with something better? (OK, I know you can come up with something better. The question is, would you be so kind as to do so? :))

I don't care if it's static or not, though if you can get the cat talking, that'd be awesome! The important aspects are to have the cat (I got him from ep 1, but feel free to take him from somewhere else) and SOS Brigade (end of ep 2, though again, don't feel beholden to that) in the picture. I don't want any other characters in it, even as background. The background I used was from the SOS Brigade creed which appears around the middle of ep 3, but again, that's not necessary. The "border" (if it can be called that) I made myself, so that can get tossed. I'm not really picky on size as long as all the important elements are clearly visible (which should go without saying, I guess). Beyond that, please by all means use your own judgement and creativity.

Could you try to make trasparent the space around the kanji of title? One of this two for example:

With that small size I'd like to use it in boards more strict than AS ;)

I tried to do a thread search which gave no results so i hope i'm not repeating a request here. I'd like to request a sig(heck maybe a recruitment thing for other ppl to use too) which is a parody of the Uncle Sam "I want you for U.S. Army" poster. So this time Haruhi is pointing(eg. like the ending sequence which i think is about 23:19 timeframe in episode 5 or the opening sequence, about 1:47 in for ep 5), and the text says "I want you for the SOS-Dan", something like that ^^

It's very well done, like the others, but all your works seem a bit stretched vertically... You are probably using the same raw as mine and if you exctract the frame with virtualdub the prior thing to to is resize them to 704x396 instead the 704x480 you have by default ;)

Hmm. I knew when I watched the episode that something wasn't quite right with the ratio... I just didn't bother to fix it. ^^; I'll take that into consideration next time and I'll try to change that later. Actually for such a stretched out raw the ones of Itsuki talking in the second row of my other post weren't that bad...

I didn't mean to imply that you were stepping over, sorry... Your gifs are always A+ quality anyway!

I'll look for the scene, but maybe it was just my imagination. I'm sure though, that there were a couple places where Kyon frowns... Those are good, too.

I'll see what I can do. I'm using Jasc's Animation Shop 3/Paint Shop Pro 7 to make my gif's. I just tried a quick pass of deleting the white around the kanji to get to the transparent part of the layer which looked pretty good in PSP7 but when I imported that layer into AS3 the kanji moved over to the left border for some reason. I'm sure there is some easy fix but I'm not used to working with these types of programs but will give it my best shot.
