I am looking for that myself. The issue with what I've seen w. the online bookstores in Taiwan so far is that the registration requires you to enter your ID and guess what, no Taiwanese ID means enter your passport ID ... not good at all.
=/ that doesn't sound good at all. Do you know if the novels are distributed in HK also?

Yesasia has free shipping if you order over $39. Also, if you're in the UK, they pay the VAT for you (not that there is any VAT on books, mind you, but it's a useful thing to bear in mind for other merchandise).

It doesn't really matter since they don't ship overseas anyway, I simply linked them as references.

If you really want them, you're going to have to get someone to buy them for you (whether it's a friend in Japan or a middle-man service). Otherwise, just keep an eye on those online hobby stores (like Hobbylink) and hope they'll pick up some of these merchandises eventually.

www.nippon-export.com has done a pretty good job for me grabbing stuff I want that the "normals" won't ship overseas. The more info you can give them the better (URL, ISBN, etc).

No conflict at all.. post links and the mods will ban you in a heartbeat :)

Buying the CDs is one way to let the producers know that licensing for R1 is a Good Idea.

These look like "garage kits" but the one of Mikuru flashing her "eyebeam" signal is pretty good. I like the pose and structuring of Suzumiya but her kit looks a bit rougher.

Looks like the "demand" is soaring above the big company ability to put figures out and the garage shops are taking up the slack.

I'd *really* like to see that pose of Mikuru in mass production instead of something overboard like the third pic.

There's a lot of opportunity with these characters for multiple poses with different characters (especially lil' dynamic Suzumiya).

Aye.. I agree... I sincerely hope it isn't licensed til after the series ends (mostly because I'd go insane like I'm half insane waiting for Kamichu! now). I religiously buy R1 releases of series I like - so the money is already locked away for Kamichu! and Ichigo Marshmellow. I plan on buying TMP .... but see I'm not insane there because I got to see the whole tv broadcast :)

"w" is short for "warai", which is Japanese for "laugh". It works similar to the English(?) "lol".

VIPPER referrs to the "residents" of the 2ch board (in particular, the Nyu-soku VIP boards). VIPPERs usually consists of hikikomoris (people who stay home to avoid social contact with others), neets (people which no job or school), chuubous (immature idiots who post stupid things). Of course, VIPPER is really a stereotype (not all 2ch users are like that), but nobody cares.

Now, as for the Oricon thing. It's not that hard to believe. Consider the following:

- Some sources have said that the number of "Hare Hare Yukai" initially released was less than 10,000, with an additional 20,000 on stand-by: not nearly enough for a good rank on Oricon even if everything sold.
- Amazon, which MANY people purchased the CD from, was overwhelmed by the demand. The majority of the people who pre-ordered from Amazon received a delay notice (shipment delayed to 5/13) on the day of release.
- Sales from Amazon and some other chain stores doesn't get sent in for Oricon daily rankings, only for the weekly ranking.
- The fact is, "Hare Hare Yukai" IS selling out in chain stores that deal with anime goods all over the country.
- (then again, in comparison to mainstream music shops, both the scale and number of sales of anime songs in anime-goods stores are severely limited)
...
etc. The point is, it's not because nobody's buying the CD (some guy on 2ch who has a friend working at Amazon said the list of people whose "Hare Hare Yukai" got delayed was so long it's not even funny), this is a simple case of demand overwhelming supply.

Maybe Lantis should've paid more attention to the movement and taken it more seriously. :heh:

But in the end, it's true that the single did lousy for it's first day (Oricon daily 15th on 5/9, from pre-release sales alone). The weekly rankings (this weekend) will be the last chance.

Over at her blog (http://minorhythm.jugem.jp/?eid=565), Chihara Minori (Yuki) was actually happy for the whole 15th thing. Mixed feelings right there... :heh:

Oh man, you'd think that Lantis would have learned something about the possible demand for the Haruhi single after seeing:

1. the huge campaign push the Negima singles had last year (for those who aren't familiar with it, last year there was a huge campaign in hopes of getting one of the Happy Material Negima singles to reach number 1 in the Oricon listings, but the mission ended in failure);
2. how popular the Haruhi novels were on the Japanese Amazon site.
1. Well, you have to cut them some slack, since Lantis has never had so much, er, publicity with one of their records before. In fact, the OP "Bouken Desho Desho?", which got 10th place in the Oricon weekly rank chart, was already one of their most successful single releases (to offer a statistic for comparison, it sold over 20,000 copies within the first 2 weeks of release). Besides, it's not that they didn't produce enough copies, it's the fact that the initial shipment number was far too few (less than 10,000), which caused the single to be sold out pretty much everywhere on the first day, that messed things up. By the next day (5/11), most shops have restocked, but who knows how much that initial distruption could have hurt the sales.

And Happy Material didn't really fail, 3rd place on Oricon is quite amazing, I think. Out of the 7 versions of Happy Material released, 4 of them ranked higher than 5th place on the Oricon weekly chart when they were released, and all of them ranked in within the top 10.

Price might be a factor, I guess (the Happy Material singles were only 735 yen, compared to Hare Hare Yukai's 1,200 yen). Besides the fact that Negima is far more mainstream oriented compared to Haruhi.

2. Forget the novels. The fact that "Hare Hare Yukai" remained no.1 on Amazon's best seller chart for over 2 weeks should've said something. ^^;

EDIT: I just checked the single on Amazon, the shipping time estimate went from "Usually ships in 2 - 3 days" to "Usually ships in 4 ~ 6 weeks"
....... There's no better time to use "orz" than this, I think.

...Visit your local Japanese anime/hobby shop and ask if they can obtain the items for you?

Either that, or get/make a friend living in Japan, and get that friend to buy and mail the items to you.

Other than that, if you live outside Japan, the internet is pretty much the only way you can obtain the goods.

By the way, the (almost) full version of "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" way played during this week's SOS-dan radio meeting. It was... incredible. :heh:

Well it's certainly not a 40 minute long director's cut version as was rumoured earlier, unless I am doing something wrong. Playing the episode the actual running time was about 27 minutes and I didn't really check through it all just had a quick peek at a couple of sections, so I don't know if they really added any new scenes to it.

Incidentally, since someone will inevitably ask and it doesn't look like it's already been confirmed here yet, that second CD does indeed contain the soundtrack for episode 0, so I think it's safe to assume that (like Shuffle, Nanoha, and a bunch of other shows), the LE DVDs will be the way to go if you want to get the soundtrack. "Will there be an OST CD someday?" Maybe, maybe not.
Ah well, can't get them all.

At least now i have a reason to buy the DVD's. The show wasen't really something i was gonna get the DVD's for (already doing to many at the moment), but it looks like now i have a reason. ^^;;

The power of Haruhi and Itou Noizi is quite formidable. Most places have already maxed out on their preorders for the limited edition DVDs. You don't often see limited edition anime DVDs sell out a month before they're even released.

So if you want the limited edition DVDs, you should preorder while you still can. Chances are you won't find them anymore by release day.

Aside from the obvious appeal, that's some of the best craftsmanship I've ever seen on a garage kit. Look at the guitar: it looks perfect down to the screws on the pickguard. Even the strings look good. And the stockings... wow. How long would that take? Just... I'm speechless.

I like her hips and thighs more :D, I find myself looking at the middle of the pic all the time. I've never had so much interest in stockings until now, also I think this figure just made the bunny girl costume my favourite for Haruhi.

I've never seen so much detail on a pair of thighs before.

Earlier on, when the show is still airing, I had this fetish for Haruhi's hands, as some people called lol, now I think I have a fetish for her thighs, yea :D

What I want to know is how the guy captured the energy and glow from Haruhi's eyes. The multitude of fan artists have tried and ultimately failed (although there were some pretty good ones). It's kinda eerie, feels like it emits the same aura as anime Haruhi...You know, the figure's eyes are exactly the same as your sig's.

I wonder who this sculptor is, I don't think you can call this a garage kit lol, it doesn't look like amateur work at all.

"garage kit" isn't a slur... usually some of the finest custom figurines are "garage kits" ... like this one. "garage kit" is just the hobbyist term for a custom-built model (though at the point people do it for a living, I suppose a better term is just professional sculpting).

And I'm more stunned by the craftsmanship than just "drool Haruhi" .... it literally bursts with her energy. Makes me want to take my modeling efforts and just hurl it out the window. This is godly stuff. Look at that mouth and the teethline in frame 5. And I still can't decide if the hosiery is material or painted on..... and I'm not sure which is more mindblowing.

I'm not sure. I saw the 2chan thread, which was in Japanese, so I have no idea what his deal is. The pictures were posted to 4chan, and created a pretty big stir. They're all over the place now. He might consider auctioning them if he wants some quick cash. A lot of people love them.

The eyes are genius, but I'll tell you where the killer feature for the Sousei/Suisei-seki model is at... THE LIPS. If that model is the size that I'm thinking of, then carving/modelling those lips at such a small level at such fine detail.. ... ;_;

Currently the only DVDs out are the ones being released in Japan (R2 region code, in Japanese only, no subtitles). No word on licensing for R1 land yet.

Gah... I'm astonished at the lag time for mass-produced figurines in the manner of the Yuki or Haruhi "specials" we're seeing posted here. They *really* must have been caught flat-footed on the popularity of the series.

(still waiting for more of the 6" or 8" Negima figures than we've seen for that matter....)

Seriously though, I've seen some undeserving shows get a lot of merchandising attentions before. It's likely that someone in charge of all this thought the show would sink like an anchor. Not to mention that the amount of anticipation the show drew before its first airing (at least on these boards and around english networks) was abysmal. I probably wouldn't be far off if I said that NA licensing would take place after all R2s have been released.

It's very hard to tell one from the other but I'd have to say the artist used fabric. In frame 3 you can see little bumps on the side of her waist where the lines meet the white background. Now wether or not that was simply artifacting is beyond me :p

簡単に言うと組み立てキットで色も塗って有りません。

いわゆる PVC塗装済み完成品とは違いますのでご注意下さい。I can recognize Haruhi's name, but what interests me is "pvc"... for those that can read this, does this mean some kind of statue is on the horizon?? :confused: ...or not? :)

There's one part in novel 3 where Kyon was in the middle of telling Haruhi his birth date and Haruhi cuts him off, saying that she's not interested in such.

We would probably never get to know a single thing about Kyon, its also one of the things that make him a unique main character.

Since the original cast of the fig was never meant to be mine to begin with and resin will always be better than PVC anyday, I will be heading to town to make a preorder of the unauthorise recast (a hobby store here has e2046 as a contact.)

Now it's up to them to see how much do they charge for a paint job.....

ehh, I had that store paint a "Disgaea" Etna kit, and it was painted with nice quality, BUT the colors were not accurate; they put lipstick on her, no panties, some green on the wings/tail. I wasn't that happy about it.

Sculptors have many ways. First way (one I would do) is take the finished legs and use a pre-made fishnet stockings. It has been done before, I know as I'm a sculptor too and have pre-made stockings at 1/6 scale :heh:

Frankly, I've never expected that company to spearhead PVC Figs of Suzumiya Haruhi.

But I'm going to pass this one because the company tend to :-

1. Make some mistakes of sorts with their final releases.
2. Release multiple coloured version of the same fig.

I have to put in that I was fairly disappointed with several of AtSai's figures from Shuffle! in terms of colors and construction (Kaede and Primula were fine, but the others - poor choice of outfit and coloring for Nerine, some structural problems with Sia).

I suppose the bunny costume is inevitable but since she spent most of the series in her maid costume that might have been better. Good anatomy and pose on the bunny suit but her left eye looks odd (might be the lighting). The white one is the sexiest looking (imo) but the black one matches the episode outfit so I'd have to go with that one.

I guess we'll have to see who else puts out a Suzu line or what else AtSai does...

Not to ruin someone's day... but a removable costume would probably triple or quadruple the price.... ~7500yen x 4 would put the brakes on a lot of potential units sold (or create a mad run that would topple the Nikkei -- who knows with mad packs of otaku :) ).

Ok the guy who spent $3000 obviously doesn't understand the concept of value and usefulness and purpose of product versus price charged. It's not like its an antique, I mean its only a matter of time before Bandai or some other company releases the real deal official figurine at standard market prices. I wouldn't even pay $599 dollars for the best looking Perfect Grade Zeta Gundam in the world, let alone for a 1/6 scale Haruhi.

Not only that but looking at the description of the product on top of the high asking price, the guy didn't even have it when he set up the auction which I believe should be seen as an extreme risk and a turn off when bidding on a product. Not to mention the outrageous terms he's come up with for payment and contact, and the nail and the coffin, the shipping price well well well well above standard UPS fees the difference of which the guy is obviously going to keep for himself (He's packaging the item himself not the post office so why would the post office charge higher fees).

The problem is not with these people, but with you being unable to understand how anime figurines can mean so much to other people.

meh... you're not defining "haruhi" fans.. you're defining fans of *any* subject who will pay what it takes for an artifact .. be it a prop from Star Trek, a rare stamp or coin, or that piece of metal that makes your 1947 roadster "authentic".

I find it fascinating that these companies will produce limited numbers of these figures on purpose when they could sell many more of them (cards, figures, whatever) ... but it has to do with increasing the adrenaline and hype of the audience I suppose.

I paid about twice what I wanted to for a very rare resin statue of a particular 12" figure once because I knew that there simply were no others on the market. It occupies the center of my animation "art" wall. I have original series Star Trek items from the early 70s worth hundreds or thousands of dollars --- to someone I'm sure.

I also think people are "caught up in the moment" to some extent and it is questionable whether these items will hold value (I'm sure someone still has a closet full of Pokemon cards suitable for wallpaper) -- if I had a lot of disposable income, I *might* have bid on the professionally painted Haruhi statue but not that kit. But right now, I'm remodeling my house so most of the spare income is heading thataway.

concerning the auction ... yeah it looks like he was taking bids before he actually has the item.... risky.... I'd be wary of his payment rules as well (Paypal is your friend sometimes) but the shipping is, I suppose, paying top dollar for extreme fragile handling and special delivery like Fedex... or it *better* mean that anyway. Oh wait... USPS Priority? Heh, I take it back....

looks like he's counting on suckers --- collectors already know that e2046 is going to have the item....(or at least a knockoff). I also note he has Zero Bids and the auction is over .... so I guess the sucker count is low this week. This guy is going on my "look out for" list.

Nasty red font and really bitchy attitude ("non-payers blah blah blah") ... like that isn't standard operations.

@Kaoishin: I'm not clear on why people are fascinated with mecha but since I've always been interested in armored vehicles (ww2 and modern), I can sort of make the connection though the engineer in me blinks too much at the some of the things they have mecha do in some series. <shrug> there have been a few fun mecha computer video games in the past... those are great fun.
