What do you people think of the manga of D. N. Angel? Is it readily available in the USA anywhere?

I read some summaries of the manga online and it sounded good, so I started watching the anime. I thought the anime was really cute but many people who'd read the manga told me that it was nothing compared to the manga. The storyline in several places changed a bit, and it seems the characters and their relationships changed some as well. Though both are good according to fans who's seen/read both, I'd like to try the manga to see what it's like.

Also, I love the artwork of this series, the drawings, especially of the eyes, and of Daisuke and Dark are so amazingly well done!

Volumes 1-9 of the manga are out, as far as I know. They're really great, I love them. But the story is not done. I heard it's going to be 10 volumes, which makes sense. It seemed like it was coming to a close in volume 9. Well, maybe not. But, if it is only going to be ten volumes, it's probably already been serialised in Asuka in Japan. Just need to wait for the final tankoubon.

Anyhow, the manga isn't even comparable to the anime. I was so excited when I heard there was going to be an anime, being a fan of the manga. The anime just made me mad, it was so different. It was terrible! Ah! It upsets me.

makes me excited about the manga than. You always go for the one that sucks more.... than later u read/watch the better one. So u wont get disappointed. Thats wat i did with Love Hina too.... lol

in tokyopop.com it lists vol. 1~8. Maybe its the volumes planned to come out during 2004 i dont know.

The first issue is released in April 2004, with new issues being released every 2 months. Ten issues will take about 1 year and 8 months to release fully, the last one being released around December 2005 / January 2006. I hate the slow release schedule of English graphic novels...

Probably there were only 8 volumes in Japan too when they put up the DNAngel page a few months back. They probably don't update the page for every series immediatly when new volumes are written for a series.

I just got the DNAngel vol 1 by Tokyopop, and the bad thing is that they took out all the honorifics and made everyone call each other by their first name.

This is going to change some major plot events down the road...I wonder what Tokyopop was thinking? Did they actually read the volumes or did they just read volume one and translated it without reading volume 2+ and get a better grip on the story?

Sorry to bump this old thread. But has anyone read DNAngel up to volume 9-10? I just have one question, does umm, Dark actually like Risa now? Because I would really not want that to happen. Since Satoshi seems to like her, and that is already pissing me off, now Dark too?!... Doesn't Dark like Riku...? (I hate Risa, because she's so feminin and seem to think the world revolves around her, I like Riku alot better).

I already read DNAngel up to Volume 10 liao..., No I Think Dark Doesn't like Risa( i think a little...) at nearly the End of Volume 10 Dark Hug Risa and Tell her not to chase after him already.... Because Dark can't Live with her... I mean.... Dark can't live inside Daisuke after Daisuke has Riku.... I think thats all i can say....

I Like Riku alot too....^_^

I bought the first vol of the swedish edition this week and I like it, gonna buy the 3 other volumes that are already out in swedish this summer.

i love riku too!!! risa is just annoying.....

in the anime, it took daisuke like...forever to realise his love for riku...but in the manga, it didn't take forever, that's one of the reasons why i liked the manga more....although satoshi is my fav character and as much as i don't like risa...i actually think they would make a good couple as both the manga and anime hinted...man hope dark doesn't fall for risa in the manga as you say

O, I love D. N. Angel. XD Honestly, I didn't care too much for it until a few volumes in but I read volume 9 and instantly fell in love. Risa-chan is such a cutie. o.o I must be one of the few people who actually prefer her over Riku-chan (this is, of course, taking in account the later volumes... because Risa-chan was a bit of a prat at first). But both twins are adorable-schmadorable (take a gander at my avy XD).

And yea, I heard about the entire TP deal... leaving out honorifics is one thing, but making it so that everyone calls everyone else by their given names is a no-no.

I haven't seen the anime myself (and don't plan to), but I heard evil things about it... Evil things.

You're not. I don't really like the Satoshi x Risa coupling either. The former needs to stay single so that I can continue to drool over him freely and/or get with Dai-kun *cheers him on*. XD

As for the Dark/Risa thing... hm, I'd be for it, personally. Not at first, mind you, but Risa seems to have been shedding her fangirl attitude lately and is really becoming her own person as opposed to the rather silly bint that she akined to in the first volumes. So yea, whether anything happens between them, I'll be supporting her. ^.^~

They're doing... ok, I guess.

Something's going down between them though, seeing as Riku straight-out asks Daisuke if he is Dark (while they're at the theme park), to which Dai-chan just laughs off, saying that he and Dark are nothing alike in terms of attitude, physical attributes, etc. Riku herself then shakes it off, saying to herself that of course Daisuke can't be Dark... but there's still that little voice in the back of her mind that thinks, but maybe...

Daisuke excuses himself and swaps places with With-Dark to see Risa, with a wistful and almost sad look on his face (over the Riku incident that just occured moments ago).

Aaaaand about the new character.

He's this young boy-looking creature(?) named Aagentine who's been stalking Dark for a few chapters now and calling him "Kokuyoku (Black Wings)." He finally kidnaps Risa (claming that she seems to be special to Dark) while Daisuke/Dark is away with Riku on the other side of the park. Dark forces Daisuke to check up on Risa, sensing that something is wrong, and lo and behold, a letter is left for Dark in Risa's stead, saying that Dark's Holy Maiden has been kidnapped.

Daisuke stares in shock, saying that Risa has been kidnapped, and Dark brings forth his wings in anger (this is the first time he's actually brought out his wings instead of using With), shredding the letter to pieces and yelling that he won't forgive whoever did this.

If so... I doubt it (although I like the pair, I don't see how it will happen). Dark's memories seem to be playing a large part in this too, though. Personally, I'm wondering if Risa will have a more dominent role in the manga however--she seems to have have been able to look into Dark's past and see a really tortured guy; of course, it's sort of inconclusive as to whether it was Daisuke or Risa who was seeing it but since the images started popping up while Dark was holding Risa's hand... it was *probably* Risa.

It isn't so much that I don't think that Dark won't for sure...

but unless Risa turns out to play a large role right about... now (as in she is Dark's holy maiden or whatnot), she's probably end up just being some sort of "reminder" for Dark, just like she was for him in the anime (reminding Dark of the only woman he ever loved all those years ago). Then we're gonna have to take in account Dark's newly rising memories...

So... don't do this, Sugisaki-senseeeeeeeeei!! T.T

And Risa gets a bit more "screentime" in volume 10 and the proceeding chapters, but Riku has been the more dominant twin (and the favorite twin for a landslide since forever) for a while now so Ionno, maybe Sugisaki-sensei is doing it for balance? o.o

When I was Japan last Dec, I found D.N.Angel vol 10 in the one of the bookstore there in Nagoya. Apparently vol. 11 is nowhere to be found. I wanted to ask the salesgirl for vol 11 but I have a plane to catch but I'm sure vol 11 will be out soon...I hope^^.

well,dark will not like Risa as he is not a human being and he was just saying good bye to her.Also,dark has to leave daisuke one day as he will have to destory krad to prevent him from opening the gate of darkness.well,i am more anxious to see if riku will find out the truth bbetween dark and daisuke.

Actually, it seems as though Dark is beginning to develop some sort of feelings for Risa in the manga (Daisuke notices this as well). No one can say for sure whether or not it's love (which is highly doubt, but at least he's beginning to feel something for her)--and if it is, whether or not it's really Risa that he loves--but they did share quite a few sweet moments in volume 10. The confession, Risa's answer to Dark's question (that was apparently eating away at him?), and the close of their somewhat-relationship.

But Sugisaki-sensei's been so busy working on Lagoon Engine that she hasn't had too much time for D.N.Angel lately.

I then found out about Lagoon Engine ^-^ I love that manga too I know what its all about and characters but I can't find scans 0_o ...

DN Angel anime I heard isn't as good as the manga, that ususually happens book is better than the movie/animation.

I purchase DNangel ( volume 1 ) from Amazon.com . i love it...it was fun to read .
But now am upset cause I cant seem to get my hands on a copy of any of the new release ones at Amazon :hmm:

Licensing usually means english (western language) licensing.

Technically, fansubbing is illegal, since the original japanese company has the rights.

Luckily, japanese companies don't care that much for english audiences enjoying their anime.
(I mean, they are trying to promote their culture)
[heh... some conspiricy theorists even say that it's a new for of japanese invasion tactic.]

Unfortunately, if you ask for an licensed anime, it cuts directly into the licensed company's profits.

Thus, problems arise...

This has been bugging me for a long while now: Does anybody have any idea when the next volume of DNAngel is getting released in Japan? Volume 11 came out way back in August of '05, and I still can't find any word on volume 12. >.>

Tokyopop put out the final volume of the series on August 23, 2006, a full eight months after the release of volume 10. Even if you’d given up hope, you should be able to find it by now! Unfortunately, that is the final book in the series - for now - and the anime (which has been licensed by ADV and is available in a subtitled box set) is long since finished. The series does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, unfortunately - mangaka Sugisaki Yukiru is currently working on a series for Shounen Ace called EDEN, and the last time D.N. Angel ran in ASUKA magazine was August 2005. It’s not known when or if the storyline will continue, but if I obtain any new information on it I’ll be sure to post here. It doesn’t look like the novels or the animation-manga will be translated into English either at this point.

Such a shame that the mangaka is not releasing any new materials on D.N. Angel. I really like this manga, and as much as I don't want it to end I want to see it end respectably. Its sorta frustrating to me the story to stop so abruptly (at a cliffhanger no less.)
I suppose the mangaka ran out of materials, but I'm still hoping that she'll finish D.N. Angel considering she restarted on Lagoon Engine recently. :)

Yeah, I really don't see how she could leave DNAngel like that forever. Especially since it wasn't an ending. The most recent volume ends with Risa kidnapped and held captive somewhere. How is that an ending to the series????

i just read the manga until vol10, and i also heard that risa would kidnapped.
i really curious what happened after risa got kidnapped...
i heard that dark tried so hard to save risa, he even wanted to use his own wings, and that couldn't be good for dark if he forced himself to use his own wings (like hiwatari)
i want to know if there is a possibility that the relationship between hiwatari and risa will grow further?
although for now there are nothing happen between them. but i really hope their relationship will grow further. they can be a great couple...

It's like Harry Potter. If the fifth book came out the year after the forth I would be jumping off the wall excited. But as it was, when the fifth book did come out I just didn't really care anymore.

But I do agree that after so long, the popularity of the manga have truly died...But since I only read it recently, I am just glad to see it back =D.

Many more people would have been running around crazy if the gap between 4th and 5th weren't so long. A bunch of fans grew out of the phase during that gap.

I mean I am looking forward to reading the continuation. But after living without the series for so long...

Definitely, I agree with that but the interest in it didnt drop as drastically as you made it seem lol. If the 5th book came out alot earlier, I am sure the sales would have been alot higher in the beginning but I still believe it didnt affect it alot.

Neways back to DNAngel, is there gonna be a group translating it when its released again?

The series is still on going and there are a couple of translators working on it.
Unfortunately, with the latest chapter it seems like it'll go on hiatus... again, for at least 6 months, and at a major cliffhanger no less.

Anyways, if anyone is still interested in this series look up Hand-of-Time at Livejournal.
