Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums (albeit a long time lurker), but had to post something about my new acquisition: Air artbook (the one for the game, not the tv or movie artbook). My friend from Japan came to visit and brought along some goodies which included the artbook. The artbook is much better than the movie and tv artbooks. It came with a hard cover case thing that the artbook can be inserted into. Very nice. The book itself is much bigger than the movie/tv one, in terms of size and content-- its thick.

I was a bit suprised at first when I was looking throught it. It had naked pictures of Misuzu and the other characters, and other pictures with the characters engaged in very proacitave situations. I then remember that the anime was based off an h-game and obviously I was looking at the AIR game artbook. I suppose these pictures were taken from the game. Aside from the echhi stuff, excellent art. High quality paper too. So far it is my favorite out of my 3 other AIR artbooks I own. BTW there is a sketch book type artbook out there as well. So if you ask me about the 3rd one its that one I refer to.

If anyone else owns any of the other artbooks, how much did you pay for them? I showed my friend the sketch book AIR artbook (which I bought for $30 usd), and he tells me it would cost him 500 yen ($5 usd) in Japan.

I recently ordered the game and TV artbooks from amazon.co.jp; after shipping and everything, they came to about ¥7100, which was a little over USD 61.00 at the time. It's true, if the anime was your introduction to the story (as it was for me too), the game artbook definitely shows you a very different side of the characters. And on one hand, you can say that that's how they really were originally, but on the other hand, it wasn't the adult content that got it voted game of the year two years in a row in Japan...instead, it was the story. Either way, I think there's enough beautiful work in there for it to be worth owning regardless of one's opinion regarding the adult portions.

I haven't bought the movie artbook yet, because I didn't really care for the visual style of the movie as much, but I'll probably end up buying it eventually, just because. The manga has me curious, too, and it's cheap enough (at ¥567, from the same source as above) that I could probably justify buying that and a few other things for, um, reading practice. Yeah, that's it... ;)

I did try to order some stuff off amazon.co.jp a while ago, I was to stupid to navigate through it, so I gave up. I wish I knew how to read Japanese, but sadly I can't. I suppose I can get a translator, but then again I'm lazy. Meh. It would be nice not having to pay triple the retail price that some online stores are asking for. Beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

The art style in the AIR manga is kinda ugly. The same person who did the Kashimashi manga is at least doing the art in the AIR manga. Their eyes arent big enough in the manga I tell ya! That and they're chubby-looking. Even though I say that I still want to check it out.

Items will usually have the yen price on it. It may have had a 500 yen price someplace on the back. Th game artbook is rare so not sure of current value the TV and movie artbooks are around 3000 yen or so.

My Japanese reading comprehension isn't very good yet either, but I kind of got lucky and stumbled across reviews of the books that included their ISBN numbers, which made them much easier to locate. In case it'll help anyone:

Air Art Works (game): 4894903180
Air on TV artbook: 4861272114
Air Movie artbook: 4861271738

As far as amazon.co.jp goes, finding what you want seems to be more difficult than buying it once you do...once you locate it, the rest of the process is close enough to how it is on the English site, and there's enough help along the way that it's not too hard. This may not be a good thing, though, as it's ended up costing me a lot of money over the last few months... :(

Hehe, I know what you mean. Last year I spent roughly 3g on manga/artbooks alone; I am quite ashamed of myself :uhoh:. I've calmed down this year, restricting myself only to a few select title, obviously AIR being one of them. But it does seem my AIR collection is complete, and now I pray that someone licenses the anime, so I can start collecting the anime.

I was wondering where I could buy a Minagi Figure. There was one at Cd Japan.com but that was the only one I could find. Does anyone know of any other places I could find one?

andiyar
2006-05-06, 01:19
If there was, rest assured, I'd have it. The only one I've seen is the resin kit that CD Japan is still carrying - there's nothing complete that I've seen. Personally, I'd love to see a completed PVC version of that kit (I think it's a Kotobikuya one), as well as a Kanna one as well... sigh.

Even better would be a licensing deal for AIR - but a Minagi figurine would be nice.

I really dislike the look of Kanna in that figurine, unfortunately. I wish that there was a release of Kanna in the vein of the Organic Misuzu/Minagi/Kano figurines, which are quite attractive. Perhaps eventually.

I really like the pose and the attention to detail in the hair and uniform; it really looks like she's turning towards a nice summer breeze. But the eyes and nose look a little bit off to me, and even more so for the Kanna figure, unfortunately.

I'm definitely looking forward to this figure (http://www.hlj.com/product/HAP01168), though -- it's not quite as detailed, but it's a great pose and I like the sundress; it's a nice change from the school uniform that all my other figures have.

Close up, that Misuzu figure isn't as good as what I had gathered from other photos I've seen. On the flip side, the Kanna figure looks much better than I had anticipated, especially because I haven't been a big fan of the Happinet (That's them, right?) figures for Air and Kanon thus far. And wings... I love me some wings. I may have to pick that up when it becomes available on HLJ.

I don't believe there were any official wall scrolls for Air released, although I could be wrong. Your best bet would be Yahoo! Japan auctions, probably through a group such as Rinkya or ShoppingMallJapan. :)

I've known about animesuki.com since like 2004 I think, but just now have made an account. I'm very interested in contributing to the visual arts/Key, and Kyoto Animation sections. I'll make my first post in this very interesting topic.

I first saw and fell deeply in love with Air in 2005. My first Air product (besides the Gao Gao shirt from Cafepress) was the figurine of Misuzu that came out during the games time.

I REALLY wish that there was an English fansite that had a master list of every official Air product to be released. I have 4 Air figurines, a (found out it was fake T^T) copy of the Movies soundtrack, a large and small Kano plushie, Large Minagi plushie, and a medium sized Michiru plushie. I have the Series wonderful artbook. (still want to buy the movie artbook but I don't fear it going anywhere)

For the past 3 years nonstop I've been searching all over the internet and making online friends over this. One nice person really helped me get into the hobby of Figurine collecting and my next figurine will be the Kotobukiya version of Misuzu (found it for sale after searching for a year) followed by the 3 Clannad figurines once I get the money.

I really want squishy stuff though! Thats why I love my plushies even though they just sit untouched on my shelf. I'm well aware of the Misuzu body pillow case that I've been eyeballing for years now. It's $130+ USD on Yahoo Japan auction and thats just sooo much money for something that cost so little to make.

I'd buy it if I knew how to buy from Yahoo Japan. I mean, Ive heard of those companies like Cresent that can bid for you and all that, but I was hoping one of you could give me a short guide on exactly how to do it. I'm sure i'll need to get my own credit card for it, and have to understand how it works and the extra fee's that would apply.

The Poteto plushie is something I've had my eyes out looking for which seams like forever now. I definitely could have gotten my hands on it if I used yahoo Japan auction 3 years ago! =( Now it's seaming more and more hopeless ans the time goes by. My best hope would probably be if one of you bought any extras and were willing to sell me it. I tried ebay nearly every day, and still do, but it's horrible for Air merchandise.

I don't think I'll ever be offered a Misuzu plushie either. I've yet to see one for sale and have been saving a spot on my shelf for her for the 3 years. =( Not to mention that there is at least 2 versions of her. That I know for sure. Actually a guy at anime boston told me he sold one just the night before. I was so bummed when I heard but was happy to of at least bought the Misuzu figurine even though I could of gotten it cheaper online at the time.

I just wish I was more serious into buying anime merchandise when I FIRST saw Air. I even turned down the chance to buy that Doll of Misuzu. It hurts to think about it because I know I'll never find it again and I had the money at the time. I also could of Pre-ordered every Air figurine since I saw them all on HLJ. It was stupid of me to just this year start seriously buying figurines n stuff since I missed all the pre-orders and am finding myself spending my whole time just looking for these items.

Seams like every time I go to yahoo Japan auction I find more and more Air products that I haven't seen before. If I knew how to buy them (or bid) and if it was simple and not a huge annoying process, then I'd definitely do it.

I'll stop now and make my way to the Air ending thread. I loved reading other peoples thoughts about the open ending and really wish Key would just tell us what they thought when they wrote it! I've spent so much time at night, in school, doing whatever, thinking about Airs memories and especially the ending to the series and the Movie. I wish I could speak with Key so badly...

At first I wasn't going to buy the American authentic DVDs because I'm one of the people against dubs. So instead I was going to buy the Japanese ones just to have sitting in my room and look at the pretty cases. Then it struck me that I don't have to watch it English dubbed hahaha. I've read that the subtitles were good. I've seen Air by 2 different fansubbers and they were both well done and close to each other. I'm hoping watching it again with ADVs subs (They are the ones who Sub these DVDs right?..not 100% sure) won't ruin it for me. Like, you know when you watch something so much that you memorize the words and can easily get annoyed when something is out of place? I'm hoping that the wording is exactly the same ! xD yea right. As long as it's as good as everyone has said, I'll get used to it I'm sure.

Hey, I'm not a big DVD buyer so my next question might sound stupid. but they didn't have like a limited edition of Air DVDs right like they do in Japan and with the Air game? If so (which I doubt) then I'm very sad to of missed it. =(

Well going to go to best Buy and buy these DVDs soon...Back in 2005 I thought I'd never see the day when Air could be seen inside best Buy lmao. And to me it looks so out of place.

I'm so pissed at myself for missing my chance to pre-order the Misuzu doll from HLJ last year. It wasn't until recently that I've been buying tons of merchandise, so I missed my chance of buying Air merchandise at its retail price. =( I just wish I was an Air fan since the games time. But yea, I'll probably never see that do9ll again and at the time it was only like 120$. Which I'm guessing I'd have to pay WAY more to buy that now since they most likely didn't make a lot due to the cost of making the dolls. And come on, it's Misuzu, so rare.

EDIT: Actually while on in the Air merchandise tread: Does anyone have a COMPLETE list of Air plushies? I've been searching for a Misuzu one since 2005 and have finally found it. I thought I'd be spending several hundred dollars on it but found it on EBAY for 18$. hell, i've been E-baying Air merchandise daily for the past 2 years. I always see the same stuff on there and actually, there hasent been much Air merchandise at all on E-bay in the past few months. Never thought i'd see a Misuzu plushie on E-bay. O.O

Well It's the one of her in her PJs and short hair, which I didn't know existed. And I know of two other Misuzu's that I don't own yet. One in her pink and white summer clothing, and the other in her school uniform. Anymore of her?

Then for kano I have a large version, and a mini one. I think there is one with her holding Poteto right?

I have one large Minagi one. (Same size as Large Kano)

And one *normal* Michiru one, same size as the Misuzu one I have.

Since I was an idiot and got into collecting stuff so late, I seriously blew my chances of getting Poteto. I was a fan around at the time when they weren't THAT rare online, and then as the weeks and months went on, more and more were being auctioning off and more and more people wanted one. Now I can't see myself getting/finding one.

I'm more than happy with my Misuzu though since I never thought I'd find it for sale and now that it's finally sitting on my shelf, I'm lost in thought.

Wow I wish I would have seen those earlier. They went for $10 and $20! When buying them from a regular site costs over $40..

Yukito590

So I went to BestBuy to buy Air..So there are 3 volumes, 1 dvd for the summer special episodes, and then the movie making 5 dvds? Well, the movie, volume one, volume 3, volume 4 (summer) were each $22, and the volume 2 including the box was $30. So that is like $120 or something.

Then at FYE they were $30 a dvd! Rip-off. Do I figured I'd ask where you guys think is the cheapest place to buy them online? I rather not search myself since the last two times I've boughten DVDs online they were bootlegs. =(

And hey...They didn't include episode 13 the recap? Or is on volume 4....? That would be horrible if they didn't include it. It may be a recap episode but it's still part of the series and the ending has original footage. I didn't look at the cases too long but I read that volume 3 said it only had the 12th episode. =(

If there aren't any good places online to buy them, then I'll just buy them at BestBuy. The only reason I didn't was because they were missing volume 4 and I want to buy them all at once lol. $120 for is so much, I wish they just made a complete boxed set...But then again, that's only the price of two figurines roughly lol. So I can either buy my favorite series on DVD, or buy my Ayu and Makoto figurines. @.@ or save $120. money money money

DVD Pacific (http://dvdpacific.com/) is selling the movie and the series for $17.08 per disc ($22.56 for vol.2 with the box), and it looks like they have everything except vol.4 in stock right now. If you go with their cheapest shipping option and don't mind waiting, you'd save about $23 on the whole set.

And yes, episode 13 is included in vol.4 with the Summer specials.

Many video stores will specifically order what you ask for (especially if you can get the ISBN numbers). But as many have stated above, DVD Pacific sells them as well as Amazon and others.

Brick'n'mortar stores have limited shelf space. They have to guess at what will sell. Something like AIR will only get space if they get repeated requests for it. Did you *ask* them to get it?

Hello all.

In Japan in 2002 I bought a set of 5 Air-themed ccg deck boxes. I realise I'm being a bit hopeful here, but I was wondering if anyone had seen them for sale online anywhere? I was very fond of them but they've since been scattered to the four winds.
