Far into the future balco is still alive and well.
The tiger growth is probably also an indicator of passage of time (months) ... like I suspect Hakuoro's recovery time was weeks or more.
Still.. thats a LOT of honeycomb gathering implied :)
(maybe the village granary is completely rodent-free now)
Looks like we're gonna get to see plenty more of Yuzuha, thank god - she's so cute. ^^;
& just what i've been hoping for, plenty more Benawi - this guy's gonna end up in my 'greatest male characters of all time' list - hopefully we'll get to see just what his game is.. don't really care for the other guy who lived in the village and has a thing for Eruruu.. though whenever it does happen - his battle with Hakuoro should be a good one.

The tiger food searching was awesome! :D
I'm glad they decided to put back some of the more comedic elements to lighten the mood. And Mukkur's feeding habits is probably why they are getting low on food :D However, as you can see from the episode, it was a good investment.
Hem... Disappointing.. I'd had hope we could have gotten a little more cuteness from the cub (or is it even more cute full grown? I haven watched ep5). Tho I guess it would need to be full size to pwn bad guys. And judging by its character in Ep4; and its rapid metabolism... bad guys better start running. :heh:

Agreed on dissapointing. I was expecting better fight scenes and better drama. Hope it gets better in the episodes to come.

Oh, Utawarerumono got it's own forum. That's a surprise.
Anyway, I thought episode five was great, with the right combination of comedy and action. Probably my favorite episode out of the five so far.

:p
Because it's generally frowned on for a fansub group to pick up a series from the latest episode just because the group(s) doing it are a bit slow. Besides, a week or so after airing isn't that bad. ;) We've all just been spoiled with very fast subbing of some series.
Anyway, I gave this episode a 9. I thought the pacing was good for a 26 episode series, with a bit of character development for some of the supporting cast. I'm really looking foward to the next episode.
I'm curious what Benawi will do, now that he was replaced by Nuwangi and saw the village burned to the ground. He doesn't seem the type to obey leaders who slaughter innocent people.

i liked this ep...it showed good plot and char development...it makes u wonder if Hakuoro is making the right decisions...and what will be the consequences...cant wait for ep 6...
Wow, this episode was pretty awesome. If all the fight scenes to come have the same level of animation, I'll be quite happy.

Holy cow, either that tiger just natrually grows up fast, which would explain the big appeite or time passed real quickly in the anime.
This was an ok episode, nothing really interesting happens since it's for raising the climax for the big battle might may happen later. Right now, I want some character development right about. I'm interested in the background story for the two twins and how they teamed up with Oboro.

Perhaps there was a timeskip so to speak but even Hakuoro was surprised with how fast the tiger was growing which makes me think that perhaps it does grow naturally fast. Maybe someone whose played the game can comment.
Really liked the lighthearted scenes in this episode. Particular favourites were mukuru trying to suckle on Eruruu's teat(at least that's what I saw) for nourishment.
Also liked the look Eruruu gave which made Mukuru back down in the storeroom when it was caught eating all the food.

Let's put it this way. :3
Aruruu plays spoiling mother while Eruruu plays law-enforcing mother. ^^;
Smooth and fast-paced animation for the match against the Benaui group and the Hakuoro group. The animation's cinematics remind me of those from Miyazaki's films, particularly Mononoke Hime.
Beautiful music soundtrack especially flute music and song with string instruments.
The small skirmish between Benaui and Hakuoro was just the apetitizer for the big war coming for the rebels against the imperial army. Benaui hasn't shown his true colors yet, neither Hakuro has.
They got rid of Sasante and yet there's the fat*** Inkara that profits from the country for its own wealth and sees fit of the people as disposable trash. I cannot stand him.:frustrated: Please, let Oboro have a piece of Inkara's anatomy for all of us!!:D
For Oboro I hold in contempt much of his honorific disposition to throw away his life in ruthless manners. He should not carry the responsiblity and guilt all to himself. Yuzuha will have to teach him a thing or two about good faith, as Hakuoro is starting to put sense on him about self-appreciation.
Respect to Eruru's embarrasing experience....
Mukuru felt bad about Eruru because her breasts are smaller, or she's Got-No-Milk?:eyespin: :eyespin: :heh:
If Eruruu's careless, in a couple more years Aruruu will surpass her on growth:naughty: , and the little sister will find a groom sooner before the elder does much to the latter's shame.
Aruruu right now is moe and cuter than her older sister.
And how come Mukuru grew that much in a lapse of two episodes?, Is not supposed that tigers are only-carnivores, yet Mukuru can eat anything?
http://img272.imageshack.us/img272/2184/mad9hw.jpg
If Mukuru's a female and beast, I don't know why she was afraid of Eruru pulling out that face?
Unless anime, pissed-off girls can frighten not only boys but also little girls, particularly if they are obnoxious lil' sisters, as well as animals.

Personally, I think they got Mukuru's gender wrong. >>; Given how Mukuru's has one heck of a mama's boy attitude. >>;
I think the implication was that Mukuru grows as she eats, until she is at full size.
I gave this one a 9 too. It had a nice balance of seriousness and comedy. The best scene for me was
when Aruruu showed up on Mukuru's back screaming "Don't hurt my daddy!" Then she points at Benawi and goes "Daddy's enemy". That had me cheering. Go, Aruruu! I do agree. It's clearly cheating bringing in the adorable girl who wants to protect her daddy on the back of a ravaging beast. There's just no competing with that.
The small skirmish between Benaui and Hakuoro was just the apetitizer for the big war coming for the rebels against the imperial army. Benaui hasn't shown his true colors yet, neither Hakuro has.
After seeing the episode I can say it was pretty good.., that particular scene you just mencioned to me was the highlight of the episode.., well and the fact that, as mencioned previously.., Mukuru grows at tremendously absurd rate.
Back to the fight scene though.., the animation there was pretty good, I recon and I've said it before, its where these series have they're strong points; and altough this was just a teaser.., it realy gaved us better a glimpce on what's to come; that is.., much better then what the previous episodes had given us.
Its true though.., Benawi hasn't by far shown us his "true" skills.., but all in all on this fight with Hakuoro..,he won. Had it not been for Aruruu and Mukuru to the rescue
Benawi also is having a good character development.., in this episode I can say that we see the..seeds of rebelion within him.., altough he belives and fights for a just cause.., I belive it to be only a matter of time until he rebels against Inkara and joins Hakuoro and the rest.
This particular aspect is also enforced by the fact that Inkara chose to burn down the other village with innocent people, and that now Nuwangi is put in a superior rank.
Eruruu's embarrasing experience was alot of fun to watch aswell.., you can realy see that she was REALY embarrassed when Mukuru jumped all over her :p
Also.., after the situation where she finds Aruruu feeding Mukuru in secret.., I recon this shot Wandering_Youth posted clearly describes how she probably kept feeling through the rest of the episode :p

On a last note I have to agree with this quote by Guido aswell; the entire animation of the show from the start has always reminded me of Mononoke Hime.., in fact.., your not the first person I read saying that.
I gaved it a 8.
Looking forward for the next :)

Haha that was great, loved that reaction. Nice to see Eruru can get serious if needed.
Nuwangi back, and already up to no good, being responsible for razing that village as a warning. He'll probably pee his pants as usual when he doesn't have any soldiers to hide behind though. Can't wait to see that.

Mukuru & Aruruu pwn in this episode. absolutely moe feast.
I hate tiny domestic cats. But on the other hand I love big cats, so this one was a winner.
Aruruu kawaii "otou-san" were absolute moe overdose!
Mukuru she see her as the "Mother" of the family, or at leased the "alpha" female.
This is also why Mukuru said she felt sorry for Eruruu because she mentioned about unable to spare food, Mukuru thought she could get around that by feeding off Eruruu ample breast that looks like they were full of yummy milk!! This is normal in social animal groups, because the "alpha" females are always the ones that are fertile, and are allowed to mate more frequent so thus generally have yummy milk breast! X(^o^)/

Gone most of the day and the eps. gets released............just my luck. :p
Anyway, I also agree with the idea of Benawi becoming one of the good guys in the future. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up getting killed for trying to betray the emperor. (just a wild guess there)
Looking forward for some "wing-girl action" in the future. :D

I am talking about the first girl with wings we see in the intro (black wings, gray/blue hair)
Been wanting to see her since the show started :)
Mukuru's still suckling eh? :heh: What has Aruruu been teaching/feeding her? AND whats with oversized smoking oyajis being in power??
It was a very nice episode, I also think this was the best. One think I can say for sure, they put ALOT of effort into the sparring scenes. I was quite impressed, not bad at all. As for Benawi, I don't know, but I think its a given that he joins them. Look at the OP.
Hee hee.. Aruruu has shown her courage again

I bow before thy infinite wisdom. (And no, it's not a wisecrack. :P )
I Rated the ep as Excellent... because of the fight scenes and the good political development... that and all the Eruruu moments just made it a winner:cool:http://forums.animesuki.com/images/icons/icon14.gif although I hope Eruruu hasn't been assigned to the comedy department for the rest of the series... that would be a BIG NoNo :nono:
As for Aruruu... I did warn you......anyway seeing the op Aruruu (shy sister) probably ends up kicking some major villain ass...
Other Good points in the episode :
Oboro acting like a spoiled soldier brat... Yuzuha acting like a spoiled brat... Hakuoro, Oboro and the twins loosing... I know it isn't a good thing... but story wise its smarter then having them retreat or any of the other crap...
____________ End of Rating
I am talking about the first girl with wings we see in the intro (black wings, gray/blue hair)
Been wanting to see her since the show started :)
Seconded...
*thinking of the time skip theory*
I think the cat just grows fast... there's no way Emperor-fatass waited 3 years... or even 6 months so that Hakuoro can build up the fortress... as far as I'm concern the episode takes place 1-2 weeks (max) after the previous one...

Best thing about this episode: Eruruu's facial expressions.
Decent episode in that nothing noticeably bad happened. If there's one problem I had with it, it's that Nuwangi's promotion was a bit difficult to swallow given that he ran from the last battle like a coward and has, to date, hardly shown what can be considered great warrior abilities. I did find it a bit over convenient that Hakuoro's decided to shut up about his internal moral battles, but I suppose it's something that could easily become very repetitive very quickly, so I can see why they decided to spare the audience from it as quickly as they could. And, also he has to begin showing externally he's a strong leader, etc etc etc.

I think it was a brilliant move :D ... just means nobody can complain about An-chan lack of morals... and now we can get back to the killing business...
One of the reasons I like An-chan is his solid personality :D ... for the time being I think it's better if he's just sticks with that and leaves character development for the other characters... since I'm sure we're going to have some 100% Hakuoro development episodes ... eventually

History is full of examples of leaders appointing subordinates based on loyalty rather than ability. ;)
Not to mention, Nuwangi's verison of events probably differs greatly from what actually happened. In his story, Nuwangi likely cast himself as the hero, bravely fighting against hopeless odds, until finally captured, but he still managed to escape at the first opportunity to report the attack.

oh boy... this is just getting better and better, doesn't it?
Aruruu and Mukuru saved the day!
Aruruu has been a great mother indeed and at such a young age :heh:
And she's also a fearless warrior.
The moment Aruruu appears on the battle scene is absolute killer!

That first line of your post invoked *coffeespew* and had me laughing out loud.
And you are probably completely correct... I'd probably say Nuwangi added that men who escaped with him sacrificed themselves to permit Nuwangi to reach safety with the important news.
I'm sure the general is spending most of his time rolling his eyes but shutting up because Nuwangi is "family" to the ruler.

Well, unlike the anime, for that scene, the game has Nuwangi killing Sasante when they were about to get discovered when Sasante said that all Nuwangi was good for was to go outside and act as a decoy while he ran away.
Furthermore, I'm pretty sure Nuwangi was picked out of nepotism and also his personality (notice how he's willing to burn a village to the ground?). Benawi is the one probably picked for his ability and still hangs around because of his loyalty.

Very true. And there is the nepotism factor, as PastPrime mentioned. One other thing is that in addition to being able to give his version of events to the emperor, Nuwangi could also report quite truthfully that, unlike himself, Benawi was not there to defend Sasante when the rebels broke through the last line of defense. This probably would not earn Benawi a lot of brownie points with the emperor.

i had to give this one a 10 just for fact that Eruruu is the cutest thing ever her facial expression are just too much espcially when she huggs and calls huroko(dont know if i spelled it right) daddy.
So here the question what do you do when your winning a fight and out of the blue a cute little pissed off girl shows up on the back of a big ass white tiget and says dont touch my daddy! then proceeds to point to you and say daddys enemy. hummmmmm i think you run away as fast you can maybe tripping the guy next to you so the tiger will slow down enough to eat him and you get away.
Oboro i keep having high hopes for him since his fighting style is pretty cool but he keeps just being a winny little bitch hopfully he grows up a little. He way to emotional and impulsive in a fight he leaps first and thinks later so before he becomes another Naruto i want him to step it up. He has great speed and agility against normal soldiers he would not have a hard time winning unless numbers were too great. But against a harded highly trained warrior he will lose everytime. The way i see it is this why would you show your hand in poker same thing on the battlefield.
Did Aruruu seem like she was acting kind of like a wife when Eruruu was being scoled and Haruko went easy on her?

I think you have Eruruu and Aruruu switched around here, but I agree with your observations. :)
And regarding Oboro - I don't know about the other hybrids, but I think Oboro must have some Kzin in his genetic mix: his main attack style consists of scream and leap, and he usually attacks too soon, before he has properly assessed the situation. I foresee many butt-kickings in his future unless he matures pretty soon.

Great episode to a series that has been excellent so far... The characters are interesting and there is plenty of room for expansion... Still interested in Hakuoro's background. I thought it was cool how the mutikapa (forget his given name) has become an ally to the village. I am also wondering how Nuwangi will react to being demoted...
For some reason, I keep thinking of the Skywalker family when I see Oboro... multiple generations of whining pouty kids with toys too big for them to handle.
I just kind of hope Hakuoro starts seeing Eruruu as "companion" material .... he seems to have placed her in limbo as to her status with him.... granted there's a lot going on, but that scene after taking care of Sasante with her should have clinched it in my book. (yeah, yeah, I'm getting repetitive ... but I'm more interested in them than in who smacks who with what stick :) )

Well, we already know that Nuwangi wanted to smack Eruruu with his stick. But the Hakuoro / Eruruu thing seems to be not moving anywhere fast at this point. ...probably the battle worries and the like, providing no time to really do anything. Which, when/should the battles step up, probably not when the stick falls, but the path the stick falls at. ...that in assumption that these battles may bring great changes.

Thaks for that i did mix them up but i agree with you about Oboro i see him getting his ass handed to him many times before he wises up. I think he has potential as a charcter, but as you said his main attack is that leap to use that move on someone wielding a spear, lance or any polearm weapon is a bad idea i think he needs to use his speed and agility move and go for the quick strikes tireing his opponent out and wait for an opening
I'm a lil' bit late watching this episode.. though it was something i was looking forward to out of all the shows i'm watching.
I'm happy that we got a lot more Aruruu screentime.. she really needed it, and to show of her feelings towards 'Daddy'. As for Mukuru - i'm pretty happy she's on there side. ^^;
Looks like we got to see a lil' bit of Benawi skills, and judging from the ending you get the feeling that he'll become a good guy later down the line.. though if that happens for me he'll lose the 'i'm cool 'cause i'm not so evil' look, still he's a great character.
And just for fun, Eruruu was darn right cute in this episode. ^^;

Wow what a nice series it is. i really liked it. i voted perfect. First 3 to 4 episode it wasnt as exciting, but you know , you have to always have some pre episodes before the main events. Any ways i love the OP too, its just a good series. I just hoped it was at least 50 episodes :(. Usually 26 episode animes end up having a wierd ending.
Woo, finally caught onto this series and now caught up with it (will post in Ep 6 thread later). This ep had the most perfect animation of I'Atsu (SRW term: Intimidate -> enemy unit lose their next turn of action/movement and can't retaliate this turn) I've ever seen, when Eruruu stared down Mukuru in the storehouse XD
Yeah, the animation in general is good - loved the fluent arrow shots and Oboro hijacking a mount (can't remember what those things are called). They're not afraid to show blood, though they keep it to tasteful quantities - I know some shows just have bodies falling left and right with no sight of blood.
Good to see Hakuro facing the reality of war. A strategist main character - I don't know why I didn't discover how this series would turn out in 3~4 eps sooner.
D: Mukkur grew uber fast >_>; Even if it was probably time that passed through, it could've been all that food D:
Oh I miss cute little Mukkur ;o
Aruruw and Mukkur to the rescue! :D

I hate cats.
The only time a cat is not a horrible cat, is when you can ride on one.
:D

XD Yes, especially when it's free <:D No paying 25 cents! ;o
But then again, it's Mukkur, so I wouldn't really mind paying 25 cents, it's probably worth it anyways lol

yes...riding...for 25 cents.... I wish all rides in life was that cheap.
25 cents would be like.... 15 copper pennies? dammn you Americans have things far too cheap..... :(
Actually, the cost of riding cats here went up due to the greater amount in local inflation. And by inflation, I mean oh yeah~ :naughty:
Though however, within Soviet-America, cats ride you.

Its a VERY good thing Mukuru's a FEMALE. Else they might have had to put it down.
(Hell, you can tell this series had H-game origins)
Edit~
@Jinsoo (v): Oh, thats worse... Prepare the Barbiturates.

LOL Well since Mukuru's a girl, YURI!!! XD
hOMG, why is this starting to remind me of Digimon 3? x_X Renamon x Ruki zOMZ!!!
I might be wrong, but I don't recall Mukkur's gender ever being revealed explicitly in the anime or the game...

I believe that's the case. I'm still leaning towards Male due to a later scene in the game regarding Jealousy issues.

For those who have played through the game, I quote
Aruruu: Motto Sugoi(referring to Eruruu)
Think about that particular scenario and I think it's clear enough to say that mukuru's rather male in its actions. >>;
Yeah, I thought Mukuru was male at first, but I'm not entirely sure ;o
BAH.

Mukuru is a forest guardian. thus has no gender.
She came from trees.
I rest my case.

Subtitles filled with interpretation don't count.
Ah crap I'm lost. Those are intepretations? How so? So its not "she"?
Aruruu does say "Good girl, good girl," though. I'm sticking with Mukuru being a girl (you don't have to be a guy to have jealousy issues ;) ).
EDIT: Actually, thinking back to it, the word could mean boy or girl, I think. I'm not too sure. I would still trust a fansubber's interpretation more, since they actually know most of what's being said compared to most of us.
Subtitles filled with interpretation don't count.
Of course, Static-Subs has it as "he / boy," but then that has it that somebody fucked-up somewhere? Yesy? SS? :dots:
Or if describing something by as "it," better to use character name, race, and/or post, no?

Iiko technically means good kid. It doesn't necessarily specify a gender. >>;
Exactly, you don't need to be a native Japanese speaker to figure that one out. Of course 'good kid' or 'good child' wouldn't sound right to say against your pet in English, so the translators understandably chose for 'good boy/girl' as a natural sounding English translation. There isn't really a gender neutral alternative in English afaik.

Oh boy, that part where the tiger tried to nurse from Eruruu was funny! It took her a moment to realize that alot of cleavage was showing. He-he-he...
