Both pictures are renditions of the climax scene from the 6th chapter, Tsumihoroboshi-hen (which should be the final chapter for the anime).

By the way, the first one isn't a game screenshot. The art in that picture is done by Takeuchi Takashi, the guy who draws for TYPE-MOON (Tsukihime, Fate/stay night), probably as a fan art.

It's a torture tool used to remove nails. The finger is inserted through that "tube" in the front with the nail protruding out, and by striking down the "lever" on the other end, the metallic "flick" thing will swing up and remove the nail.

Frankly, as with many other games, the BGM is a definite plus to make your heart jump. Try playing the game in a dark room, well past midnight, with acoustic headphones... oy vey, the creeps!!!

It literally means "It's/that's a lie". Liar would be "usotsuke" or "usotsuki". But in this case, it probably doesn't matter either way though. The point is, Rena is accusing Keiichi of lying (or rather, she knew he was lying).

CG... heh, other than ONE event CG in Tsumihoroboshi (I wonder what came over Ryukishi07-san for that scene ^^; ), there are no CGs in Higurashi to speak of other than the character portraits. And as you can see, the "scarier" ones, like kj's post of the "Usoda!" Rena, are not exactly the scariest things in the world.

But just like kj said, the game's mood comes from a combination of the atmospheric, visual, and audio elements. The sounds (which include background musics + sound effects) were particularly effective (it's called a sound novel, after all) in implanting all sort of feelings, ranging from fear to sorrow to horror (as well as calmness, joy, excitement, etc.), into the reader as the story moved along.

This is why some of us gamers are a little disappointed when the anime didn't feature any of the musics tracks or sounds from the game; because they played a huge part in identifying Higurashi for what it is.

Really though, some information isn't all that secretive to begin with. I mean, anyone who clicked on the official site's character vote contest page will be immediately spoiled to all the characters anyway. As long as the details aren't mentioned, I don't think it's big deal to know who looks like what.

Removing the text from that would be almost impossible... I'd just use it and set your computer to scale the image, to be honest.

That image seems to be derived from the cover art for Wave's Nakanaide (http://www99.sakura.ne.jp/~wave/product/nakanaide/nakanaide2.html) image album for the Higurashi games. Looks like someone did quite some photoshop work on it... I doubt there's a version without the text.

In the game (specifically Onigakushi) one of her penalties was to equip the 3 heavenly items: Cat Ears, Cat Tail, and a Bell Collar. XD

It stuck to her since.

Also in Japanese there is a saying: 猫かぶり (neko kaburi / litteraly Cat Cover) meaning faked innosence. I guess a similar to the phase is "a wolf in sheep's clothing"

Rika, despite her childish speach, is really cunning, perspective, and knows how to use her "cuteness" as a weapon (RenaPan!). This is apparent in the games they play and how she teases people (especially K1 & Satoko). Also her status in the community is high up there (think of what she represents to the village).

I can see where your coming from, with odd proportions and all, but I dont see anything wrong with it, it doesnt look any different than the shows animation to me. To tell you the truth, I personally had fun examinging rena's butt ... XD

(I could look at it for hours in sheer amazement, and never get bored... I swear it)

I love that poster and am terrified of it at the same time. XD I love Rena's face, and hair, but her... huge thighs and butt are so... wow scary. Poor Satoko just looks terrible, and I can't see Mion in THAT revealing of a bathing suit, though whatever she's doing is amusing.
