Edit: Kuma just got back to me, seems he's still interested in working on Oni Sarashi volume 2 (and finally has some time to work on it) and has started into it.

But he never got a chance to work on the omake and preview for volume one (and doesn't really want to >_>) if you have any interest in it? Pretty intimidating stuff both editing and translating wise, but it definitely looks edifying.

Other than Japan, the series is legally available only in Taiwan and Hong Kong right now. I'm not sure about Chinese scanlations.

As for how famous it is in Japan, it was a doujin game made by a one person team that was adapated into a 52 episode anime, PS2 game, manga, drama CDs, and both light and regular novels, so I'd say there must be some kind of popularity there.

Well, I can officially say that I'm part of the Higurashi craze... But, with a slight problem. If it's alright to ask, can anyone link me to a working Tatarigoroshi-hen chapter 6? I seem to have all the chapters up to date on my beloved lappy with the exception of this one. ^^;;

Anyhow, hopefully I can find time to spend more time on the forums here and I'm glad to be a member. >w<

Kuma here,hi everyone. A little bit of info about myself,since this is my first post: I worked as a translator for Zeonic-Corps in Gundam series such as Delta Astray,Seed Destiny Astray,and many more. I also did the first volume of Higurashi: Oni Sarashi Hen for Gaku Gaku.

Now, I know that Vol2 is taking damn long. That would be my fault XD, Real life,etc. Whatever,I'm back now but since Aortic is taking a break I want to ask if anyone is interested in editing this?

I'll have the first ep of Vol2 ready on Wednesday so I can mail the script to whoever wants to edit it that day, and then every Wed until the whole thing is finished.

This is getting long,so that's it for now XD

Well, I would rather not pick up Onisarashi-hen. I've already got Tsumihoroboshi-hen, which I haven't been touching over Yoigoshi-hen, so somebody else can edit that.

Meakashi-hen and, well, the higurashi project is dead, so tatarigoroshi-hen, both need to be tled, but who knows about that.

But no, I can't edit Onisarashi-hen, too busy with other editing projects and real life.

Yes, the Epilogue is as long as a chapter if i remember it correctly.

You guys are doing a great job with quick chapter releases! I'm not a terrific translator, but I'm still learning; using the raw scans of Tsumihoroboshi-hen. I was going to do some Meakashi-hen as well, but the files that contain the early chapters are locked. .__.; Does anyone have any idea how to get to those files?

If this is somehow violating the rules, please tell me. I'm still new.

Anyways, they're locked because the tankobon with them is already up there. Just look for the tankobon with Shion on the cover.

Well, it looks like they're focusing more on Onikakushi-hen, but it's tough to tell.

I wouldn't necessarily say that we're focusing on one over the other...it's more along the lines of the Watanagashi TL is currently MIA and the Onikakushi one isn't. We still are planning to finish up Watanagashi, though I have no time frame that I can supply.

Hi everybody! I'm new here and I have some questions:
1. I found this topic yesterday. Since then I started downloading Higurashi manga. Now I have:
- Onikakushi to chapter 5
- Kimodameshi one chapter
- Utsutsukowashi to chapter 3
- Watanagashi to chapter 4
- Tatarigoroshi to chapter 6
- Hajisarashi one chapter
- Onisarashi to chapter 4 + prologue
- Yoigoshi to chapter 10
- Himatsubushi one chapter
It's all what I found. Is thats all what I can download at the moment? Or did I miss something?
2. On first page of this topic are few more titles:

I couldn't find them anywhere, so I'm asking: Have they been already released? If yes, could you give me some links to download them?

Nekogoroshi-hen and Kuradashi-hen are light novels, not actual manga. And none of those 4 have been released in any translated form yet, although Tsumihoroboshi-hen is being worked on.

Hey I was wondering how long each of the different story arcs are? Like how many chapters do they have? And I don't mean translated, I mean like total. I know that Yoigoshi-hen is 13 chapters long (not counting chapter 0) but I'm not sure about the others.

From what I can tell, Utsutsukowashi-hen, Meakashi-hen, and Tsumihoroboshi-hen are still being serialised, so I'm guessing nobody really knows for them yet.

I like how Rika is done in Himatsubushi, of course that's the whole point of Himatsubushi. Lastly, I find the manga alot scarier than the anime, it's...how shall I say, better paced? More violent, more impact overall.

Up till now I had assumed that the true Mion had survived because she was in Okinomiya along with Kasai when the great Hinamizawa disaster occurred and that the dead Mion was actually Shion. This admittedly didn't take into account the survival of Akane, who would also have been expected to have been in Hinamizawa at the time. However, the fact that it was now revealed that Shion is also probably alive, since she's coming to retrieve the bell, blows that theory completely out of the water. I hope that that what actually happened will be revealed in the final chapter because I no longer have any idea what it was.

I have some Higurahi "doujins" that are interesting and short (less than 30p)
Wanna edit them?

1) Hitakakushi-hen => Keiichi and Rena swapping bodies (funniness and weirdness)

2) Gorioshi-hen => Rena and... Ooishi fighting for Keiichi's love (that's really weird)

3) Katautsushi-hen => Hanyuu's past in the Hinamizawa of centuries ago. There's also her daughter in that. I think there are some TIPS related to this one.

I believe what I said was that it would be soonish depending on how lazy the editors are. The problem is that they have been the exact opposite, too busy to edit instead of too lazy. I'd say currently probably 10 or so pages are done, just be patient :) The chapter will be out eventually.

i just started reading the manga, after reading the first 3 chapters of onikakushi arc, surely there are the 4th 5th and 6th chapter? Is it already translated or maybe the raw perhaps available anywhere?

Daveish has it exactly correct! Yes, we will have chapter 6 out eventually :) However no, I don't know how long it will be. We are all very busy currently and haven't had as much time to devote to scanlation as we typically would. I know that some of the chapter has been edited, but I don't know how much...partially since I haven't really had a working computer for the last week :P

I can try to get a concrete number on how much of it is currently edited, but frankly it wouldn't help much since how much is done doesn't really have any bearing on how long the remaining amount will take.

It's not the multiple artists that's the problem, it's the multiple publishers. ADV bragged in their press release how they managed to negotiate both Air TV and the movie from Kyoto Animation and Toei respectively.

Both Kadokawa and SquareEnix own different parts, although SquareEnix owns all of the main series so far (and Yoigoshi-hen), so it may be easier for the licensor to just skip Onisarashi-hen and Utsutsukowashi-hen.

EDIT: And just to give you a bit of hope, New York Anime Festival starts tomorrow, and all of the major manga publishers have panels.

The premise of the arc itself isn't bad at all, having a look at Shion's school life can actually work if done well, though I kinda suspect where the story is going. At the least, I see it some leaps above your average doujin, so that's a plus. :p That and you can't never have enough raws with potentially good story to practice your Japanese.

Reading the Japanese wikipedia entry for Higurashi, it would seem that Ryukishi07 is credited as the original author for all 3 manga original chapters, however, for Onisarashi-hen and Utsutsukowashi-hen, the sakuga is 鬼頭えん (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/鬼頭えん)(Kitouen), while for Yoigoshi-hen it is みもり (Mimori). Moreover, Kitouen is also credited for the story composition of Utsutsukowashi-hen, leading me to think that Ryukishi07 sets the general layout for the story and Kitouen has the freedom on how to develop it, akin to an aprentice system I'd guess.

Chapter 6 was probably the end. And even if not, I don't think she'll stab him.

As she never lived in Hinamizawa, she can't have the syndrome and therefore won't kill him. He saved her life, after all.

Higurashi isn't all about the main characters killing each others.

There's an epilogue. Also, it just so happens that about 1/3 of the Utsutsukowashi-hen tankobon is Onisarashi-hen epilogue stuff, NOT Utsutsukowashi-hen. Also, Umineko has been fully edited by a different person, I didn't know about this.

Umineko is definitely linked to the Higurashi series, though none of the main cast have returned. Umineko definitely isn't its own thing.

The twist was spoiled to me by this thread, but the epilogue still surprised me. I had expected Natsumi to kill Toudou and then claw her throat out; the happy ending caught me off guard.
