Since each scenario is technically "stand-alone", you don't really have to read them in any specific order, different mangakas are responsible for each of the scenario as well, so it's not as if they would skip on anything for their own scenario.

However, that only applys to the first three chapters (Onikakushi, Watanagashi, and Tatarigoroshi).
Himatsubushi (4th chapter) should only be read after the completion of the above three chapters.
解 (answer) chapters should obviously only be read after completion of the above four chapters, AND they have to be read in order (Meakashi → Tsumihoroboshi → Minagoroshi (if there is going to be one), etc.)

You should give the Higurashi wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) a good read.

Anyway, the serialization for the primary 3 question chapters (Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen, and Tatarigoroshi-hen, their covers can be seen above) have all pretty much finished up. So far, 1 tankoubon (volume) has already been released for all three scenarios (containing the serialized chapters covering the first half of the scenario). The final tankoubons (volume 2) of the 3 question chapters, containing the latter half of the scenario, are scheduled to be released in the Summer, completing the manga adaptation of Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen, and Tatarigoroshi-hen.

After that, serialization for 2 of the answer chapters has already been confirmed (Meakashi and Tsumihoroboshi) and their serialization is due to begin late June, drawn by the same mankagas who did the corresponding question chapters (Onikakushi→Tsumihoroboshi, Watanagashi→Meakashi).

I managed to get the Onisarashi-hen just because the artwork is soo beautiful. The people here actually look their age instead of using the moe style. :p Natsumi is just so cool.

However, this volume is so messed up! I was so creeped out. But I'm surprised that there was no relation to Rena and her gang at all. And is that Maebara Keiichi? Another bad thing is that this book does not have furigana so I could not read most of it. :(

Also, Furigana = I can read it so could you also tell me which ones contain it? Actually, just tell me if Tatarigoroshi contains Furigana because I've already seen raw scans of the other two.

That's the only one I don't have. :( It might have furigana since the covers are designed similarly which means they might be released by the same company. Whereas Onisarashi's is different. :uhoh: <----plausible explanation :heh:

Yoigoshi-hen, which seems to be a new side story about Hinamizawa in the present day will start its serialization from August.

Another question... apparently the anime takes a few.... liberties with the storyline in comparrison from the games. How accurate is the manga in comparrison to the anime and the game? I'd assume the manga is more true to the game than the anime. Would that be a correct assumption?

Yes - although some scenes are still left out, the manga does a better job in following the game and much creepier artwork.

Alas though, the best medium to get into would be playing the game itself because of the beautiful (and occasionally bone-chilling) BGMs, poems by Frederica Bernkastel and the valuable TIPS.

Onisarashi-hen has just recently finished it's run in vol.8 of CompAce. And Yoigoshi-hen has just begun it's serialization in G-Fantasy (currently with chapter 0 and 1 out).

Yoigoshi-hen is an interesting one, besides taking place in 2006, there appears to be multiple main characters as well. I wonder if the story continued after any particular scenarios from the game...

Ahh... I went on a trip to San Fransisco for college looking and visiting family... which is nice since there's nothing in Florida where I live and I can't do much online shopping. >__<;

So I'm happy, since I bought the issue of Gan Gan Wing (I think... ) With Meakashi chapter one~ <3 I'm sad I haven't been able to find the manga tankouban's (yet), but I also got an issue with the last two Onikakushi chapters in it...

And I must say the preview they had for Tsumihoroboshi-hen was O___O~! I can't wait for Tsumihoroboshi hen! (not to mention I'm in love with Rena after listening to the Tatarigoroshi drama CD...)

The Los Angeles one is very good. It's always very well stocked although it's a bit more expensive compared to Asahiya in Torrance or several mom and pop stores around Gardena/Torrance but I think it might be because the stuff is air mailed. There's also 2 Book Offs as well in Torrance & Gardena. I don't know what happen to the Mandarake, it moved to Santa Monica then I think it closed. Too bad Little Tokyo itself is a ghost town, sadly. Huh, never knew there was a Kinokuniya in Costa Mesa. I have to go there sometime.

I picked up Watanagashi-hen book 1 and Tatarigoroshi-hen book 2 up at Otakon.
I was kinda suprised there was almost no vendors that had anything Higurashi related (or Haruhi related either).

Hopefuly next year will be diffrent and there will be more of the mangas. Back to importing for now.

By coincidence, I picked up the first installment 2 days before broadcast of the first anime episode. Pretty cool! Interesting to see how the pacing differs from the anime adaptation. I got all the GG Powered magazines that Onikakushi-hen ran in except the second installment, IIRC. Are the drama tracks on the CDs that come with those issues the same ones as the drama people have raved about, or is that something different? I haven't listened to them just yet, been too busy...

There is one group who has transated the first four chapters of Watanagashi-hen and Tatarigoroshi-hen. Another group has taken Onikakushi-hen on as a project, but no progress has been made yet. The links are on the first two pages of the thread.

I've also finally ordered Watanagashi and Tatarigoroshi off Yesasia. My next paycheque will see me getting Oninkakushi, Himatsubushi and Onisarashi.

Well, both Tatarigoroshi and Watanagashi shipped. I also ordered Onikakushi volume 1 along with my NANA soundtrack because I needed an extra item for free shipping and it was in stock already and it shipped the same day.
Watanagashi actually arrived in stock a day or two before Tatarigoroshi did.

Yes, but since Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi answers everything, it is not being serialized alongside with Meakashi and Tsumihoroboshi right now. Instead, they have a new story called Yoigoshi-hen, which is about Hinamizawa in the present day.

Onisarashi-hen is also a great side-story, so I highly suggest you get that one as well.

Chapter 4 of Yoigoshi-hen is out.

So we now know that Yoigoshi follows the end of Tsumihoroboshi - or rather, the BAD END of Tsumihoroboshi. It doesn't take much then to figure out who "Mion" is - for once, us readers have far greater knowledge and perception of mysteries than characters in the manga itself :heh:

How involved was Shion with events in Tsumihoroboshi? Off the top of my head she only appeared when she met up with Kasai and bumped into Rena at the bar. It was Mion that was with Akane when they had that meeting with Ooishi, right?

It's nice to see that Shion has inherited the katana-wielding skills of her mother. Wonder if Kasai will show up with his shotgun? :)

This manga is Yoigoshi-hen, a side story, and from what I saw, it seems that it follows the bad end of Tsumihoroboshi-hen. The woman is the adult Shion (that was born as Mion, as you might know) and it seems that Satoshi is also in the story, but as a man with amnesia since the old days of Hinamizawa (1983) (maybe here is the answer of Satoshi's whereabouts)... I'm not sure of it all though hehehe

I think Utsutuskowashi-hen only has one chapter to date, so it would still be a couple months until the first volume edition will be out.

AS for Meakashi-hen, the first volume is already out. Right now they are at chapter 8 in the magazine version, the first chapter in the year 1983. So, it would probably be another few months until volume 2 will be out.

Takano Miyo is indeed the name that Tanashi Miyoko changed to, to show that she's the sucessor of Takano Hifumi.

However, despite all that, certain things don't check. Tanashi Miyoko does have a grandfather, but the key person "Takano Hifumi" was never mentioned once in the whole novel. Also it doesn't make sense why she is in Shishibonoshi at that time. Also, it's not known what her future plans are (after graduation). However, without that, it would be impossible to land her position and job in both the SDF and the Irie Institite.

Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi.
Taken from the wiki article of Higurashi, it is supposed that minagoroshi won't be done (and was substituted by Yoigoshi-hen). i don't have any official source for this, unfortunately.

currently, Meakashi-hen and Tsumihoroboshi-hen aren't completed yet, they still are monthly published in their respective magazine, respectively Gangan WING and Gangan Powered.
I don't have the date for Meakashi-hen Vol. 2, but tsumihoroboshi-hen vol.2 will be released around this june 2007

It was fun to see Tomitake be more apart of the story then just the guy who gives information and then dies. Just from that you can tell that the manga sticks closely to the original work. I'm loving the manga - and i hope the group that are working on it carry on doing such a awesome job.

I just finished reading the Onisarashi manga about a week or two ago, and whoa, it was pretty interesting. Sure stuck to it's Higurashi roots, as to be expected. It was a nice look at a different situation, with clues to other things and such.

I love the manga versions. They seem so much more complete than the anime (and to a certain degree the games). Since I've seen the anime, I already know what's going to happen, of course, but the differences are pretty big.
Actually, since I'm familiar with what they are saying, and there is furigana to explain the kanji, I've been using Onikakushi-hen to teach myself japanese. It's surprisingly easy! Is this just me, or does Higurashi use simpler language than other manga/books/what-not?

a Tankobon is the bound volumes of manga, usually much higher print quality than the magazine scans, due to higher quality paper and printing, and they actually tend to make many pages much easier to edit. If you recall the enormous big color spread at the start of this, those were decolorified and changed to only have the chapter name in the tankobon. To get an idea of how different the quality is, look at chapter 1, then chapter 2.

I hate to say it, but it looks like you guys are going to need to wait a good long while for more Onisarashi-hen, as Aortic will be very busy with school. No more of Utsutsukowashi-hen is released as of yet, I believe, too.

Yoigoshi-hen will come, I'm starting edits for Tsumihoroboshi-hen right now, actually.

In any case, it sounds like you guys are having translator problems perhaps? I was wondering if you might need any more help since I COULD do translating. I'm a lazy girl, but maybe I'd change that for the sake of Higurashi, since it is Higurashi after all. I'm starting school soon, however, all I'm learning in school will be Japanese anyways so I can just pretend translating is part of my studies anyways. : D Just tell me if you do need anything~

well did you consider the early arc that other group left them on limbo? like Onikakushi, Watanagashi and Tatarigoroshi.I thought the manga did alot better job then the anime did but sadly its not all translated.its been like 2 month since the last chapter of onikushi,11 months for watanagashi and 7 month for tatarigoroshi. :heh:

Well, my editing situation is this right now...

Yoigoshi-hen I don't want to edit right now because if I get farther I'll be editing tankobonless.

Tsumihoroboshi-hen I'm in the middle of a very time consuming edit, and I'm editing a doujin for another community, I'm in the middle of what, like 8 succesive incredibly difficult edits >_>. Yoigoshi-hen is lookign really appealing right now ;_;

I'm probably dropping out of editing that but since we're not doing sfx that arc is way easy to work on. Kuma was working on the hellish to edit omake of Oni Sarashi last I heard, so I'm pretty sure if you started on volume two you wouldn't double translate anything.. I'll email him and see what he wants to do.
