Does anyone have more of the opening theme lyrics? All I've been able to make out are:
ひぐらしのなく頃に
Vocals: Shimamiya Eiko
Does anyone have more of the opening theme lyrics?
Uuu... I'll try.

Here's a site where you can play keyboard DDR with musics from the Higurashi game, so anyone who's interested in what the game's music sound like should give it a try ^^:

Actually, concerning "MP3s" of the original game.
If I understand correctly, 07th Expansion used public domain music in the first four game chapters, right? Therefore, the music is already "free"... is there a list of what songs were used, at least?

I wouldn't know how much of a help it would be since the titles do not correspond to the mp3 filename itself, but here's a screencap from the music section of the game that lists all the musics that were used. Obviously, may of the titles are in Japanese:

(I listed my own favorite tracks in bold :p )
It looks like Ryukishi07 had some sort of "file name jumble system" where he would toss the files in and get back some messed up file names. ^^;
Now, "Higurashi no Naku Koroni" (question chapters) only featured non-licensed free musics tracks, but there were some really nice ones in there. In any case, since you can download the trial version (http://07th-expansion.net/Soft/Taiken.htm) of the game (featuring the entire first chapter, Onikakushi-hen) from the official site. You'll probably find most of the tracks from the question chapters (most were used during Onikakushi) included in the trial version.
But the quality of the game's music really took off when we entered into "Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai" (answer chapters), with bgms created by skilled doujin artists. In particular, artists like dai (http://www.geocities.jp/iwamud/CD.html) with his wonderful piano tracks, or the "thinking musics" from Propan Mode (I loved Sheep Counts :heh: ), to the exciting adrenaline rush from 煉獄小僧's tracks (彷徨いの言葉は天に導かれ and Z・E・R・O made Tsumihoroboshi-hen's ending one of my favorites). The story of Higurashi wouldn't have half the impacts it did if it weren't for these musics.
EDIT: Eh? The trial version link isn't working. Well, give it a try later. ^^;
The soundtrack by Dai i must say is one brilliant piece of work, even more so with my obsession with piano music - its just a shame i haven't heard the music in the game. ^^;

I definetely recognize some of the BGM from other animes'. If you're not
familiar with the concepts, producers for television or film can purchase
libraries of music to use in their productions so they don't have to blow
the budget hiring big-name talent. But the opening and ending themes
and some of the incidental themes are not in that category, really good
stuff IMHO.

If you go to the mp3 page of dai-san's website, you can actually download a few of the tracks used in "Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai". ^^;
http://www.geocities.jp/iwamud/music.html
It's not much, but you can download both "Conviction" and "LIVE" there, which, in my opinion, are two of the best tracks from Minagoroshi-hen (Conviction is one of many "sorrow" piano tracks used in Minagoroshi, while LIVE is actually the ending song of Minagoroshi-hen(!)). LIVE, in particular, really delivered an "epic" atmosphere for Minagoroshi's ending, and ranks as one of my top tracks from dai-san.
EDIT: Oh, of course, all the other tracks are excellent too. "you", in particular, is THE signature track for Meakashi-hen, you can even consider it to be "the theme song for Shion's story".
So the opening theme will be released in 2 days. :eyespin: Or rather, one day for most of us due to time difference.
I also noticed that the official site has put up a huge package of goodies that comes with the first volume DVD that will be released on August 4.
http://www.oyashirosama.com/web/item/index.htm#dvd
Can anyone see if this is a special edition DVD? It also includes a mini soundtrack CD.

Conviction has got a very stong feeling being each note played within the tune, really good. Even though i haven't played the game, when listening to the tune - i can just picture the game & whats happening in my head.
Same pretty much goes for Live as well, this is really good music.

You from this track is from the same OST by Dai right? No wonder its my fav', with it being the theme song for Shion's story. ^^

Higurashi's OP is among the best, if not THE best, this season. The melody is just so dark, rich in nuance, foreboding, yet high-paced and simply beautiful. Period.

I am becoming quickly obsessed with the Higurashi game music. dai is amaaazing. I've been needing a new music obsession since Eureka seveN's first OST... aa... "you" sure sends out that Shion feel.
Great music for things I love... makes me so happy~ dai can quite capture the feelings I get when watching/thinging/experiancing anything Higurashi. Haaau~

When Cicadas Cry
Vocals: Shimamiya Eiko
Behind where I looked back; (Who's in the front?)
In the dark, I raised my claws (and slashed apart the night)
The raindrops turn into droplets of blood and travel down my cheeks
If no place for me to return to exists anywhere anymore
Take these fingers, my fingers
I'll take all of your fingers away
To the unopenable forest where cicadas cry
I can't turn back anymore
Being made to disappear one by one; (the blue flames)
On the other side of the dark, (the morning won't come anymore)
Inside the mirror, with countless wriggling and stretching hands
Come on, lure someone here
Oni-san, come here, to where my hands sound
No matter how you'll get away, I'll capture you
From the animal trail where cicadas cry
The voice that I heard is no more
Take these fingers, my fingers
I'll take all of your fingers away
To the unopenable forest where cicadas cry
I can't turn back anymore
Oni-san, come here, to where my hands sound
No matter how you'll get away, I'll capture you
From the animal trail where cicadas cry
The voice that I heard is no more
...Very creepy. Definitely suits the girls of Higurashi. "I'll take all of your fingers away"?! o_O Is finger-chopping gonna occur in the series?
Nice! Thanks for posting the lyric + translation :)

I'm slowly dying... the vocal version of you has me listening to it over and over. The lyrics are so pretty. So I was wondering, who sings it? I'd really like to know, if anyone knows.
Now I'm off to write lyrics. Nyaaa~

There you go. I love this song too. :heh: Thanks for the lyrics!

The vocal version of "you" (as well as "omoi") is sung by Yuzuki-san (http://www.geocities.jp/bluememoriaru/).
------------------------
While I'm on the topic, now that Watanagashi-hen is over, I have uploaded the second MAD video of the Nakani Kimi to Nageki no Sekai (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=555406&postcount=19) series:
Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai -Soshunfu- (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj77r5scg20)
Be careful though, since this second video features contents from both Watanagashi-hen and it's answer chapter, Meakashi-hen, so it may be spoiler for some (I watched it myself before I played Meakashi, and I didn't feel all that spoiled, so I guess it's not that big a deal).
While I'm on the topic, now that Watanagashi-hen is over, I have uploaded the second MAD video of the Nakani Kimi to Nageki no Sekai (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=555406&postcount=19) series:
I love these videos. Nice song too. What is it called and where can I download it (the song)? :) And where did you find the vocal version of You? It wasn't on that page listed a few posts back.
I love these videos. Nice song too. What is it called and where can I download it (the song)? :) And where did you find the vocal version of You? It wasn't on that page listed a few posts back.
It's on one of the music CDs for the answer chapters (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni KAI) Thanks/You. And yeah, the vocals are pretty :)
*will hold out until Ep8 is subbed before watching the video*
And one of the Thanks/You tracks (10) reeally reminds me of the La Pucelle shop music o.O
What's the songs for the 2 MAD videos SushiY posted? They're really nice, especially the second one.
Also for the first one. I really like that one. :)
Well, it's listed in the credits at the end of the clips, but I guess the downsized videos might be too blurry to read.
Anyway,
Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai (the first MAD, based on Onikakushi-hen)
Featured Song: bewailing
Singer: Shinra Etsuko (新良 エツ子)
Music/Arrange: Hyomoto Yuuji (表本 裕二)
Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai -Soshunfu- (the second MAD, based on Watanashi and Meakashi-hen)
Featured Song: Tsuki wa Noboru, Watanashi wa Utau (月ハ昇ル, 私ハ詠ウ) (The Moon Rises, I Sing)
Singer: Shinra Etsuko
Music/Arrange: Hyomoto Yuuji
Both Shinra Etsuko and Hyomoto Yuuji belongs to ALTERNAIT (http://www.kawachi.zaq.ne.jp/alternait/), one of the groups who participated in the creation of these MADs. These songs were produced specifically for these videos.
If you looked at my first post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=555406&postcount=19), you'll notice that there's a third video, Utage (which happens to be my favorite), based on Tatarigoroshi-hen. But for the sake of not spoiling people too soon, I won't put that one up until the anime finishes airing Tatarigoroshi.
I tried to recompose Higurashi no Naku Koro ni with midi. I tried the best to be as close as possible to the original, however some synth effects are missing. Here is the result:
MP3: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Yamaha XG) (http://media.putfile.com/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni)
Midi: XG Compatible (http://danchan.hopto.org/anime/Higurashi%20no%20Naku%20Koro%20ni/Music/Higurashi%20no%20Naku%20Koro%20ni%20XG.mid) | GS Compatible (http://danchan.hopto.org/anime/Higurashi%20no%20Naku%20Koro%20ni/Music/Higurashi%20no%20Naku%20Koro%20ni%20GS.mid) (MS GS Synthesizer user would prefer this version)
Any thought?

...vocal version of "you"? Enlighten me with information on it, please. :x
It's funny that no one mentioned the ED yet. Well, I don't want to sound like a party crusher or something, but I find it pretty bad, especially because I'm so fond of the OP and the OST Kawai Kenji wrote so far (Gosh, that guy knows how to freak people out! lmao. Believe it or not, I saw him for the premiere of "Avalon", even asked him a question, and he's a really cool guy with a old-fashioned hairdo. At least, I suppose he still has it).
What do you think? I mean about the lyrics (mm....) the voice ( argh......) and the music (*gone to bed, bored)...
Really?! Kawai Kenji wrote this? I would never have known because his works usually sound alike such as Fate/Stay Night sounds a lot like some of the tracks in Vampire Princess Miyu.
I only like the OP song. The ED song is...just average, no offense. I listened through it once and now I already forgot what it sounded like. :heh: I guess it's the lyrics that distract me because I always try to find out what it's supposed to be saying and I get distracted and forget the overall melody of the song.

I like the ending theme. The slow melody fits with the show. It suffers from the common problem of indistinguishable English singing, however.

Yup he did. I'm a credit freak. :D
And lol, that's what I meant by "mmm..." about the lyrics of the ED. But I'm happy you like it, LJ, really. :p
What you call a common problem is sth I just can't take, even after years of Japanese studies...
I love the piano parts of the ending. It's so perfect for the previews.
You're right, -EV-, but do you think it's enough to make a good ED?

Oni-san kochira Te no naru hou e<< I love this line, so creepy >w<
I don't know much japanese though, but it might sound more poetic(and make more sense) if "Te" here refers to the higurashi's legs.

I don't know much japanese though, but it might sound more poetic(and make more sense) if "Te" here refers to the higurashi's legs.
uh...no. That line is a quote used in a typical Japanese outdoor activity played by children. It's somewhat like hide-and-seek, except the child acting out as the "demon" is blindfolded and the other children claps their hands saying that line. The objective is for the "demon" to capture one of the other kids relying on their sense of hearing since the demon is blind. Once the "demon" is successful in capturing one of the other kids, they switch places.
Translated, that line becomes: "Here here oni-san, follow the clapping hands"
Obviously, this is a metaphor for Higurashi's storyline. It is an excellent way to portray the "blindness" of the mystery in a village that is rumored to have demons dwelling within it, and how the viewer can only rely on what is given.
You're right, -EV-, but do you think it's enough to make a good ED?
I suppose not, but come on, it's not as bad as you make it out to be.
It's funny that no one mentioned the ED yet. Well, I don't want to sound like a party crusher or something, but I find it pretty bad
Just do like me:p
When the vocal is bad just focus away from the lyrics, set your mind on /ignore mode, and treat the voice like some other instrument you don't understand. Then it's usually not too bad.:eyespin:

Give up and skip it probably :p
I don't mind the song actually, the relaxing tune normally suits my mood after watching one of the episodes (in a kind of 'need to relax after all that' way) but yeah, the singing is meh. It reminds me somewhat of the vocal song they used in the .hack//GU trailers... if anyone heard the E3 2005(?) trailer version, it was originally in English and, well, crap. By TGS they clearly realised it didn't work, and they changed it to Japanese but with the same tune. I love it now :heh: Shame the B-side to the single probably won't be a Japanese version though.
Give up and skip it probably :p
Good idea. LMAO.

Thank you >w< I happened to think that way after reading a lyrics discussion thread of a certain website. Thanks again for teaching me new stuffs.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has th lyrics fo the vocal version of "You" and "Omoi"? Thx a bunch ^_^

Here are lyrics to the vocal version of "you". I might go around translating it later, if I have time. I've never written out song lyrics before, so please tell me if I have done anything wrong.
Kanji version:
Romaji version:

You
What are you doing now, at what place?
Are you at a place where this sky continues into?
I lost that which has buried my heart until now and noticed it for the first time
The fact that you had been supporting me this much
The fact that you had been giving me smiles this much
The price of having lost it is way too preposterously great
And I desperately reach out my hands and struggle to recover it, but-
It slips by just like the wind; it looks like I'll reach it but I don't
My chest is tightened by loneliness and despair and my heart seems to break
But your smiling face that remains in my memories always encourages me
Let's return to that time again; I'm sure that you'll be all right this time
I'll always laugh by your side, right by your side...
What are you doing now, at what place?
Are you at a place where this sky continues into?
Will you be there with a smile like always?
Now I simply keep wishing for that
EDIT: Thanks, Sushi-Y
I'm not sure about the definition of daijou, so its appropriate place of translation has been left blank.

o_O I found the first two music videos to be simply amazing... So I had to find the lyrics to them to see how much they add to the visuals.
Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai (You who Don't Cry and the World of Bewailing)
Song used in the music video:
bewailing
Vocals: Shinra Etsuko
Kanji:
Romaji:

Uso to uso o kasaneta dake no

Translation:
If you'd notice, those days when we laughed and cried
Have been scattered into pieces of something unrestorable
Only the sadness and pain
Of just having one lie stacked on another lie
Even if we forget the cicadas and scent of summer that follow behind
We can't erase them
The vanishing place is being dyed red
Before we knew it, the approaching sound comes
Only my memories that were cleaved apart
Shine unchanged
Within the bewailing of this dusk
Even if I destroy them, you'll be waiting
They are being pulled off and turning invisible-
Sadness, and even pain, too
Ah, even if we lose the cicadas and scent of summer again
They won't disappear
...I'll post the lyrics to Tsuki wa Noboru, Watashi wa Utau (used in Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai -Soushunfu-) later.

Song used in the music video:

Tsuki wa Noboru, Watashi wa Utau
The Moon Rises, I Sing
Vocals: Shinra Etsuko
Kanji:

Translation:
The white light that sadness examines and carries
Only illuminates the unsalvageable path of fate
I've realized, look, that every time when your hands
Touched me, that's right, my heart wavered
Things that I want to tell you increase in number
While I remain like this, they simply accumulate
I can't forget it, even if it's painful
I don't want to forget it "at least", or so I wish
I'm sure that I can't restore the broken happiness that stabs at my chest
I can't meet you and I seem to go mad, but I want to tell you my feelings...
When our eyes meet, I immediately joke around with you
By deceiving you, I run away
I can't become strong if I'm by your side
I want to become strong "at least", or so I wish
I believed that even if I'm selfish, I would still be able to change
Even though I merely want to meet you with an honest, smiling face
I'm sure that I can't restore the broken happiness that stabs at my chest
Even if all of my body are falsehoods, I want to tell you my feelings...
Screams embrace, our, hearts
Now, separate, along with tears...
The beautiful, white light that appears to freeze
Only illuminates the unsalvageable path of fate
My feelings that don't reach you anymore are fleeting
Only the voices of cicadas are unchanged like back then, in the sky

Oh, the song to the second video is so sad. I wonder whose point of view the lyrics are from... Mion or Shion? And to whom? Keiichi or Satoshi?
Well, first of all, it has been almost a year since the last release (Utage was released back in C68), so I doubt you can find their CDs anymore, except maybe on Yahoo auction.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5831/10101l9hf.gif
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1065/5931l7an.gif
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9669/9151l2sv.gif
(Each of these CDs included hi and low res versions of the movies, as well as 2 vocal tracks (one of which is used in the movie) + wallpapers)
Now, as for the "static-ish" thing, I can tell you this: that's pretty much what they really sound like. ^^; The only thing I did to compress the audio was converting the original audio source into 160kbps mp3, and as far as I can tell, the YouTube versions sounded pretty much the same as the originals.
I think the problem is with the track themselves (especially "bewailing", because of the intense sound ranges): these aren't the kind of tracks you'd want to play on crappy speakers or headphones, especially if you're the kind of person who likes to crank up the bass and treble settings. ^^; You should try adjusting your speaker or computer audio settings and then try listening to the tracks again. (A good test point would be the "嘘と嘘を重ねただけの (悲しみと) 痛みだけ" part of "bewailing", pay special attention to the cymbals) Both my speakers and headphone replays the audio from the YouTube videos beautifully.
As for the lyrics from Soushunfu, well, they probably describes both Shion and Mion's thoughts, depending on who's on screen at the time (for example, the second segment is the part about Mion (目が合えば すぐふざけあって)).

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Image Album - Kakera Musubi (still in production)
http://www.animate.tv/kakera-musubi/
Featuring:
Katakiri-san,
大嶋啓之 from Voltage of Imagination. Favours exotic-sounding compositions (...don't like his music much, actually)
Morrigan from "WAVE." Has the ability to compose and arrange in a very wide range of genres. Doujin music god. WAVE already released an ultra quality Higurashi doujin music CD some years back
zts, one of the composers of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai fame
癒月 (Yuzuki-san), who sang the vocals on the "Thanks/you" soundtrack and plays Rena in the doujin radio drama version of Higurashi.
...that is an all-star cast from the doujin music world! Ryukishi-san is going to be working on the lyrics together with Katakiri-san as well. Can't wait for it to come out!
p.s. as long as Katakiri-san doesn't try to sing English/Engrish again...Katakiri-san only has average Engrish, but for some odd reason loves writing and singing Engrish lyrics. Japanese lyrics please! >.<
Updated members:
bermei.inazawa of "studio campanella." Old and well-respected composer.
interface. Lyric writer, works with studio campanella.
綾菓&来兎 of "風葉." ...who? Know nothing about them...
霜月はるかさん (Shimotsuki-san) of "Maple Leaf." Sang the EDs of the two Rozen Maiden series. My favourite singer ever. Like Rekka-san, mostly does professional work these days, but still occasionally cranks out the odd doujin music CD. Voice is perfect for fantasy world genre songs, and improving in other genres.
茶太 (Chata-san) of "茶太屋." Has a voice kinda similar to Shimotsuki-san's, but loves producing weird music. She, Rekka-san and Shimotsuki-san are friends, and are often involved in each other's music.
;o
im so making an amv outta this anime using the op song.
綾菓&来兎 of "風葉." ...who? Know nothing about them...
Wow, Raito-san?! The one who did RBO's musics!? *joy* ^^

I think the main reason the ending theme is sort of not given the respect it
could have is that they placed a phasing effect on the singer making her
unusual english pronunciating even even more strange. Try singing a song
and put your voice thru a phasing effect using something like Cooledit and
you'll see what I mean.

Well, there's also the fact that if they wanted to do English, it probably would have been better to double-check the grammar and diction with a native speaker before going ahead with it.

No. Please refer to the merchandise thread or the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) link for answers about any merchandise but also realize that everything pretty much comes from Japan and will be in the Japanese language as of now.

That's something the Japanese would never care to do, unfortunately. I'm curious about any cool-looking or cool-sounding English in anime. As a French native speaker I'm sometimes puzzled, but never impressed. lol
If you have any counter examples, please, I'm listening. ^^
What about Samurai Champloo OP? Was it weird?
This may surprise you guys, but THEY DID USE a native English speaker to check the lyrics and give pronounciation lessons to Katakiri Rekka. That doesn't mean however, that ALL native English speakers are professionals in translating lyrics to match the tune. If they had the money, they would hire a pro at BMG Japan. Unfortunately, this is just a "lowly" anime with "otaku-ish" sponsors - they opted for the best they can afford. Basically, it comes down to "you get what you pay for."

And I'll be doubting anime Japanese lyrics too, and lyrics in general as well. I'll be doubting music, and language as a whole!

From what I know, it's probably just a symbol of "Oyashiro-sama mode". Song used in the music video:

Kyouen -dance when cried-
Mad Feast -dance when cried-
Vocals: Shinra Etsuko
Kanji:

Translation:
We innocently walk on the usual way home
Bantering and quarreling around
Even though I would've liked it if such trivial things continued
Your eyes that bow down to sadness are regretful
And stripped of tender times
If I'm to regain them in my hands
Even if I won't be forgiven
It'll be a judgment in this world
Every time when our hands part
My feelings distort (unhesitatingly)
Destroy, smash, expose, shout for
The unawakened feast
The shape of happiness that surfaces in my heart-
I firmly present it to the day that won't return
The offering flowers are drenched red
At the end of the tragedy
No matter what waits, (I've decided)
Challenge, dance in, stake your life on
The unawakened feast
I firmly wish for
Just your smiling face, but- (I went mad)
Only the unawakened feast and
The bewailing voice remain...

I thought they might have used a native speaker. The grammar is just about perfect, although the pronunciation from the second singer (full verison) is barely intelligible :p
The lyrics fit the series very well, and I love this song :D

I have one question concerning the drama cds...
How closely do they follow the original script? I mean, if it's only 1 CD per scenerio then =\... or is it multiple CDs per scenerio covering almost all of it voiced (I'm sure minus the tips)?
I may buy the Tatarigoroshi CD if it has the interview in it. Krazy K is where it's at, lol

Onikakushi was 3 discs, Watanagashi was 4, and so is Tatarigoroshi - 4 discs.

Seems like they're making another "Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai" video.
Not sure what arc it's for.
"Unbelivable"... this word to me just compleatly justifies the OP song...
I have just today started to see Higurashi, and altough I am already on episode 3, it only toke me 1 episode to compleatly fell in love with the OP song..
This rarely happens to me.., most of the times I have to hear the OP or ED a few times in order to learn to like it.., and only then do I fell in love with it..; this one though.., compleatly stunned me at the very first time..
Currently.., I just can't get enough of it :p
Luckly my searching skills are "bringing" the full version into my playlist soon :D
and.. well.., by the looks of it.., it will be playing on back & forth for quite some... long.. long.. hours :heh:
This is definitly one of the best OP theme Songs that I heard this year, and Ever in fact..; its.. just that great.., and honestly.., it couldn't fit the anime better :)

That's right, ico-san (of Cosmic Comic) announced it on her site a couple of weeks ago.

From that picture, I can see the image of Satoko crying into the phone, as well as Hanyuu's outline, so it's going to be on Minagoroshi-hen.
My friend in Japan is about to get hit by a silly long shopping list from me for this summer's Comike. :heh:
Well, the OST's for the anime is official out today, and i've gotta say its a work of art.
A very good mix of happy/mystery type tunes on here, i knew i'd love this OST~

Well, obviously. -_-;
Kenji_Kawai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=140) is a great composer.
I just never knew that it was his work that I have been listening to when watching Higurashi.
I actually just noticed it when it was playing on winamp, and was surprised, I had to confirm it.

just a tidbit of info. I believe Type-Moon the creators of Fate: S/N game have been big supporters of Higurashi well before the anime. Chie-sensei is a parody of the character Ciel from one of Type-Moon's earlier works.
Chie Rumiko => Chi-e-Ru (cut the rest) => Ci-e-l
They're both curry fanatics too ^^
Not that that had any direct relation with composer himself.

Given that Type-Moon began with a humble beginning as a doujin circle just like 07th Storming Party, it's reasonable for them to show a reasonable amount of respect for Ryukishi-san.
Chie-sensei is clearly a parody of Ciel (or more precisely, Shieru-sensei (知得留先生)), right down to the character design and settings (だがそれは言わない約束). In the Otsukaresama meetings, she even used her black keys and seventh holy scripture. :heh:
Both Takeuchi Takashi and Nasu Kinoko are fans of Higurashi themselves as well. (notice the Rena vs Rika scene in my sig is actually drawn by Takeuchi-san ^^)
As for the OST, Kawai Kenji is certainly an experienced composer. But as a game fan, I still would've preferred to hear the game's unique and memorable tracks instead.
What perfect timming ^^
I started the series yesterday and "obtained" the OP & ED.., and now today the full OST comes to compleat it :D
Needless to say that Higurashi is all over my playlist now.., and altough I have not played the game.., therefor I do not know any of the "original" tracks as Sushi-Y mencioned..., I belive Kawai Kenji did a extreamly good work on these which compose the OST.
Much in the style of Fate/Stay.., I realy was glad that this one followed the same path.., which realy makes it an awsome OST to listen all arround.
Funny to see the that Takashi and Nasu are both Higurashi fans :p

wow the OST rocks :D its perfectly mixed and a perfect way to relax after a stressful day :heh: Kawai Kenji you are my hero for composing this and also the F/SN OST ^^
Well seen as a few people here have already got hold of the OST in one way or another, has anyone found the track that plays when Keiichi's falling off the bridge right near the end? That was one of the ones I was most looking forward to having and in the few times I've skimmed through it doesn't seem to be on here :( Typical.
Yeah, i've also found a number of tracks not on the OST that i wanted from the series.. though i'm sure a few of us knew it was going to happen. ;_;

In other news, some samples for the songs to be included in the Higurashi image album, Kakeramutsubi, have been made available for listening:
http://www.animate.tv/kakera-musubi/song.php
It's looking pretty good. I think Rena's image song "when they cry" managed to capture the 2 sides of Rena quite well, partly thanks to Rekka-san's solid ability as a vocalist. Soft and gentle, then low and dark.
the arranged version of "you" sounds great too. Ahh... if only they would use it for the anime... A Meakashi-hen without dai-san's musics just doesn't feel like Meakashi-hen to me. :(

Liked the sample for Rena's song and the new version of 'you'. Sounds a lot more uplifting than the other versions which gave me more of a relaxed vibe :) Need Matsuribayashi to be out so I can order my answer chapters from paletweb, the question CD arrived yesterday.

I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to this more than any anime episodes. :heh:
It certainly got Minagoroshi-hen's feeling right, I remember the game gaining an "epic story" feel around this point (because the scale has become so large) and I could sense that from this short 30 second demo clip.
Oh, although it looks like they're having an "angry stare competion", they're actually supposed to be showing "determination". Just to be clear. :heh:

LostBlue
2006-08-06, 10:37
To get my happiness I had done everything
but had done nothing to be blamed and accused of.
The sound of footsteps became louder every day,
Then I notice the fact there was no time.
I was a believer in life to be myself always,
and was asking whether I would be alive.
Give me a reason why not to adopt in this way,
or judge me to be guilty of so many incurable sins.
Tell me why, or why not. Complaining way too much,
maybe I overlooked something fatal for me.
The whole world was at a complete standstill,
and I was in fetters, at the mercy of the mob.
The silent warning became louder every day.
Then I kept pretending not to hear.
Its meaning had been in the eyes of the beholder all the along.
It had grown dark before I found a sign
"Among the nonsense tragedies, what on earth you are looking for?
You only have to be honest to yourself and your own fate."
Tell me why, or why not. Complaining way too much,
maybe I overlooked something fatal to me.
There is nobody who knows there will be nobody.
Excepts for me, all the world has gone mad.
So what is forgiveness you are willing to withhold?
What is the well-being you are willing to make?
Now what? So what? Don't you come interrupt me, oh please,
while I am interrupting myself.
A quick video I put together that shows Digital Network with some Game Club scenes from the anime (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf2xiT66FDA), inspired by my friend who recently started playing through Onikakuchi-hen agreeing with opinions here that the Game OST beats the anime's in terms of setting the mood.

Very nice :) Wouldn't have thought of doing that but it fits really well, and that tune is one of my favourites (especially the second half). Still like both soundtracks though. but then again I've only heard the sound novel's music on its own.
Wonder what the consumer port's music's going to be like. We've got the original sound novel's soundtrack, then the anime's soundtrack, then the new one used in the demo you can download now, and then another one for the consumer port? Too many x.x

The fact that Kenji hasen't remade any of the Dai tracks himself for the anime is a shock to me.. i though he would have at least re-done 'Confession' or 'You'.
Ah well, in my strong opinion - the anime would have been a lot better using the original music. I'm not saying Kenji's music is bad.. the score fits perfectly with the series.. just, it could have been better.

Either way, I was happy to hear some of the original game music instead while listening to the Tatarigoroshi drama CD. It was pretty freaky since I ended it around 1-2 AM before going to sleep... I had to listen to some nice happy music to be able to sleep though. ^__^; And the many hours the drama CD had compared to the anime's 1:40 or so... *sigh*
I'm also happy I was able to understand the whole thing. XD I have very little confidence in my Japanese, so I'm always happy when I can fully understand something. <3

There's probably some concerns about using musics for a doujin game made by a bunch of amateur artists. The question arc musics, in particular, are all freely downloadable music tracks that Ryukishi-san discovered and used. But when it comes to a commercial product like an anime, it's probably a better idea to hire a professional music staff to create their own original soundtrack for it.
Unfortunately, BGMs are usually just that in an anime, background musics. Visual novel musics, on the other hand, often took the front stage, leaving behind lasting impressions. Can you imagine an AIR anime without all those game tracks (Tori no Uta, Natsukage, Aozora, etc.)? The same thing here.

Dreams of Rebirth and...
Vocals: Shinra Etsuko
Ah, the parched pain and bitterness
Ah, intertwines with and closes the world
High in the sky, it echoes-
The lonely cicadas' queries
The darkening sunlight; the passing summer days
While listening to the bewailing that overlaps with
The fabricated dream visible ahead of the suds
Alone, I overcome thousands of nights
Even the wishes of people that illuminate tomorrow
Wax and wane like the moon
The warmth of outstretched palms
Disappears, and then, there's loneliness
Forgive the soliciting confusion and weakness
Please, even just for a moment, let the tranquility
Echo deeply and sharply and be perfectly clear
In my sorrowful, azure heart
(Holding a perpetual, incurable wound)
Without fulfilling my far and distant aspiration
The mist dissolves into the silence of time, but-
Closed eyes, creaking life, falling tears
A (brief) dream gives a calm prayer...

Does anyone have any info about an "Image Album" from Higurashi (the sound novel) that is made by an artist called "WAVE"?? I think it is from 2004.
I downloaded it on some torrent along with the Kai arcs soundtracks long ago. There are 9 tracks, but they came all name as track1, track2...
They are pretty cool (specially track2). Does someone has the tracklist, or anything?
There's also a single called "Lizing CD" (?!?) (tracks: "hands" and "-Wind when old and tracks-). Is it related to Higurashi?
Any info'd be good. :D

So can I request someone to please translate the titles for me?

Check the rules. I don't believe you're allowed to ask for MP3's.

Try this
http://stage6.divx.com/members/66788/videos/3166
On stage6 you can download the video
After that you can easily extract the audio with virtualdub, or any software like that
I did it to put the song in my iPod.

First time I've posted in this thread...
I've been listening to why or why not (full ver.) a lot lately and I've realized how the tone of the music parallels the entire series.
At the beginning it's sad and mysterious. When we get to the bridge (i.e. the instrumental interlude), the song becomes a lot more upbeat. And at the end, it becomes positively triumphant.

I just came across some songs from the games and after listening to them I only have one thing to say.... Woooooow!!!!!!!! I never really understood why there was complaining for the anime scores but you know now I understand, compared to what the anime used these are brilliant. It would have been soooo awesome had they been used in the anime. I love the piano in the pieces!!! When I watch something the scores are actually the most important thing to me, well besides how the story is put together and the quality of the writing, but music is such a big part to me. I can't wait to play the original games now to hear all the rest of the music.
Moving on to my other related topic to this, I don't know if were allowed to ask but does anyone know where to find the sheet music for the pieces...? I love to play the piano but am looking for something new to work on myself, and these pieces sound like something I would play. If were not allowed to ask about this let me know and I'll edit it out or you guys can edit it out, don't want to be trouble ^_^'

Here's one: http://www.alphatrance.com/0engine/music/anime/
Confession's sheet music supposedly can be found here.
I can't read sheet music so I can't tell :heh:
some of dai-san's piano tracks' sheet music is available on his site here:
http://www.geocities.jp/iwamud/gakuhu.html
All the ones there are what I consider to be the best tracks of the game too. Even "ふたり。ひとり。" and "being" from Matsuribayashi is up there too. (the sheet for "being" is a little... :heh: )

Squeeeeeee *Huggle glomps LostBlue and Sushi-Y* Thank you so much guys, you both rock! If I get good at any of them or think I have I'll record them and come here to see if you guys think I'm playing them at the right tempo and such. This is going to be so much fun!! *Scurries off*
Edit: These are great, I can't wait to print them out and give them a try. They look like I should be able to hopefully maybe handle them. Though my skills are low rank with the piano as much as I love it I admit. Being.... Ya.... I would love to play it but I don't see myself even being able to get through a page of it. But I think I'm going to start with You, It looks simple enough plus It's one of the tracks I got to hear and already love it. So we'll see how this goes, thanks again!

I'm not sure what soem of the ones I found are called, but You and the vocal of You are my favorites. I can't stop listening to them. I want to buy the soundtracks now!!! If their available for purchase of course. The only other tracks I found have question marks for titles :heh: At any rate this anime and place is getting dangerous for me, I'm going to spend all my money and become poor and live in a box *nods... Focus Chibi, Focus on Christmas and getting a place to live... Preferebly not a place where girls run around with hatchets and guys with metal bats :heh:*

I like Thanks also, even though it has the same melody as "You" (which I also love). And I can also see why sushi-y really wanted ZERO to play for the ending of Tsumihoroboshihen. However, it does kind of give me the image of a Mega Man ending with him running in the background as the credits roll :D
I personally love dai's "you -destructive." Faster and upbeat tempo reminiscent of Akasaka kicking some serious ass!!

Get the game discs, they're all stored conveniently in a nice little WAV folder on them :)
ZERO is indeed win, megaman or not :p
And kj, know what the filename for that one is?

Nifty!!! Gets better and better *nods* Megaman? o.o Is a song from the game from Megaman as well or are you just relating the names. If it were a song maybe I could get my boyfriend interested in Higurashi if he knew there was a song from megaman O.o... Also wonder if there is a tranlation for the vocal version of 'You'

Translation of You courtesy of Rasuberi and Li Jianliang: http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=578243&postcount=51
And about Mega Man, I'm just saying it reminds me of those old Mega Man game endings where he's running in the background as the credits roll, and they scroll through all his enemies and stuff... then it's like "THANKS FOR PLAYING!" and he jumps up with a happy face :)
Well, ZERO is what plays during the Tsumihoroboshihen credits, so I guess it makes sense :p

I just heard ZERO and man, what an upbeat song. I guess it really decieved the gamers eh? And yeah, it kinda reminds me on 16-bit games where the main character runs.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I didn't notice it in this thread. What is the soundtrack called "Dear You"? It seems to be several vocal versions of the "you" track in the game, arranged differently and sung by different artists?

Has anyone else listened to the Higurashi image album, "Kakera Musubi"? I'm really, really loving the opulent version of you on the CD. >o<
EDIT: M-A-T-S-U-R-I-Meet Your Match! is very awesome, too, though on the harder side to sing. XD It describes the atmosphere of the Higurashi Festival club activity perfectly.

Yep, it's great! Although it gets a little TOO loud with the instruments sometimes (esp compared to dai's vocal version of you). Li have you listened to Dear You? It has 5 variations of the "You" song, so you might like it. I also liked MATSURI and when they cry from the kakera musubi album.
kj- when did you -destructive play in the game? From your comment I'm assuming somewhere in Himatsubushihen? Then again I thought dai only composed songs for kai. The song is quite different than most other renditions of 'you' I've heard before... very upbeat like you said.

Another doujin work with a long title from Katakiri Rekka XD
「約束の日にはきみと二人で この素晴らしき不確世界へ」
http://www.rekka.jp/20061008pub/
This is a Rika & Akasaka-centric production featuring a Rika character image song and a 24-page Rika x Akasaka love-love (!) side story booklet from Rekka, plus a "serious" type all-ages doujinshi from guest author Anaguramogura.
It is being sold at the Wataganashi Festival being held on 10/8 (the day before M3!), but hopefully should make its way to one of the doujin stores some time afterwards ^^
Undoubtedly there will be Matsuribayashi spoilers though, so buyers beware!

It's times like these I wish I had Doraemon's "anywhere door". :(
So far, Hanyuu has been treated as a gag-character at every Higurashi illust site I have been to. Looks like it's no different with Rekka-san. :heh:
Hmm... an Onse- I mean Akasaka x Rika SS by Rekka-san herself, huh...

think is the homepage of 煉獄小僧 and you can download 見えない何かに怯える夜 and 彷徨いの言葉は天に導かれ and other music pieces in higurashi.
btw anyone know where can i find the lyrics for the vocal songs in ~Dear You~?
I found something interesting while going to the Higurashi Motion Graphic site.
There's a sample mp3 for possibly another Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai (requiem for themselves and tragedies). The title is 嘆きの世界 (Nageki no Sekai).

Of course, it will be based on the final chapter of the game, Matsuribayashi-hen.
... I figured if there was going to be one, it'll be for the winter comike. Now I have to figure out how to get my hand on one from Tora no Ana... :heh:

the sample is interesting (it feel way lot warmer than the other songs, though the depressing title ).
by the way, is it me or they didn't covered tsumihoroboshi at all? (himatsubushi could be with utage, but i can't see any real content for tsumihoroboshi) it would be interesting to see how "heaven and hell" fight could be in Nakanai. (i'm sure they could do some impressive scene with the memorable quote "遊んであげるわ、おいで鉈女...!!" and the insanely K1 KOOL MODE ^^)
EDIT : oh yeah sushi-Y, what is tora no ana?

no in fact, there is a brand MAD doujin video (MAD = japanese AMV if i'm correct),
known as "Higurashi Motion Graphic : なかない君と嘆きの世界 / Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai" (You who Don't Cry and the World of Bewailing).
the MAD video are essentially captionning the major events and story of each chapter. and they are really brilliant. (they use personnal art style and song, but they fit perfectly each arc so far. IMO, the impression left are way better than the whole anime serie (i'm not kidding))
for thoses who didn't watch them yet (shame on you ! the thread is repeating it a lot ~~ ) here are the links of the MAD uploaded by Sushi-Y, enjoy ! (they were already posted, but this deserve to be posted again with all the information ^^. credits to sushi-y and Li JianLiang)
Be careful though, they are spoilerish... even HEAVELY spoilerish may i say.

Each of these songs were created specifically for its respective MAD, so the lyrics have a lot of bearing to the stories and videos (in addition to sounding great). The translations for all these songs can be found on these forums. I've compiled them into my own text file, but all of the credit belongs to Sushi-Y, Li Jianliang, and Rasuberi (forgive me if I missed anyone else who did any translating or romaji/lyrics posting):

Translation:
If you'd notice, those days when we laughed and cried
Have been scattered into pieces of something unrestorable
Only the sadness and pain
Of just having one lie stacked on another lie
Even if we forget the cicadas and scent of summer that follow behind
We can't erase them
The vanishing place is being dyed red
Before we knew it, the approaching sound comes
Only my memories that were cleaved apart
Shine unchanged
Within the bewailing of this dusk
Even if I destroy them, you'll be waiting
They are being pulled off and turning invisible-
Sadness, and even pain, too
Ah, even if we lose the cicadas and scent of summer again
They won't disappear

We innocently walk on the usual way home
Bantering and quarreling around
Even though I would've liked it if such trivial things continued
Your eyes that bow down to sadness are regretful
And stripped of tender times
If I'm to regain them in my hands
Even if I won't be forgiven
It'll be a judgment in this world
Every time when our hands part
My feelings distort (unhesitatingly)
Destroy, smash, expose, shout for
The unawakened feast
The shape of happiness that surfaces in my heart-
I firmly present it to the day that won't return
The offering flowers are drenched red
At the end of the tragedy
No matter what waits, (I've decided)
Challenge, dance in, stake your life on
The unawakened feast
I firmly wish for
Just your smiling face, but- (I went mad)
Only the unawakened feast and
The bewailing voice remain...

Ah, the parched pain and bitterness
Ah, intertwines with and closes the world
High in the sky, it echoes-
The lonely cicadas' queries
The darkening sunlight; the passing summer days
While listening to the bewailing that overlaps with
The fabricated dream visible ahead of the suds
Alone, I overcome thousands of nights
Even the wishes of people that illuminate tomorrow
Wax and wane like the moon
The warmth of outstretched palms
Disappears, and then, there's loneliness
Forgive the soliciting confusion and weakness
Please, even just for a moment, let the tranquility
Echo deeply and sharply and be perfectly clear
In my sorrowful, azure heart
(Holding a perpetual, incurable wound)
Without fulfilling my far and distant aspiration
The mist dissolves into the silence of time, but-
Closed eyes, creaking life, falling tears
A (brief) dream gives a calm prayer...

Now I simply keep wishing for that

while staying in the "music" category, can anyone translate the options in the sound test? (KJ1980's picture : http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/kj1980/higurashi_kai_music_list.jpg)
since the files names are really messed up, i prefer to use the game itself as a jukebox :heh:
however, except the 2 first options and the last one (respectively : play/next - stop - exit), i don't have any clue about what would the others do (one of them is probably a shuffle option, another would be a "repeat" )
Aren't they making a volume 5 of this MAD series? I think it is called "Requiem for Themselves and Tragedies" or something like that. And it is about the last answer arc.

The (movie05_sample.wmv 〈4.74MB〉) one.
Now then, Matsuribayashi-hen had the most memorable scenes out of all chapters, let's see how well this one can capture them.

Isn't the new MAD out already? I've been viewing it nonstop, and while it isn't my favorite (a tie between Soufunshu and Rinne), I really enjoy it. I find it to be very touching. *hugs Takano*
I'm interested in the MAD videos. They're created by a company? The effects are stunning. Especially how they reveal the title with the shimmering for Soushunfu. Anyone know how they do it? Vegas Video? Or Adobe....Adobe something? :uhoh: Very inspirational.

#2. Requiem for themselves and tragedies (MAD #5)
#3. Dreams of Rebirth and... (MAD #4)

i don't know if it is because i didn't play matsuribayashi-hen yet, but i'm kinda disappointed with "Requiem for themselves and tragedies", compared with the 4 others MAD.
honestly, i feel it lacks of some depth in both song and screencaps (except the scene with tommy and taka)
the mad is still great, but i would say, it is the "least" great among the 5 MAD from Higurashi Motion Graphic Project.

the sample is interesting (it feel way lot warmer than the other songs, though the depressing title ).
by the way, is it me or they didn't covered tsumihoroboshi at all? (himatsubushi could be with utage, but i can't see any real content for tsumihoroboshi) it would be interesting to see how "heaven and hell" fight could be in Nakanai. (i'm sure they could do some impressive scene with the memorable quote "遊んであげるわ、おいで鉈女...!!" and the insanely K1 KOOL MODE ^^)
EDIT : oh yeah sushi-Y, what is tora no ana?
I think tsumihoroboshi is merged with the one that shows onikakushi
I think tsumihoroboshi is merged with the one that shows onikakushi
Some Tsumihoroboshi-hen contents were mixed into the 4th movie.

It's probably because you didn't play Matsubayashi-hen, I'm guessing. I almost cried watching this one. Especially the part with little Miyo's "don't step on them!", Akasaka's arrival, Shion and Rena's "girls never die at a time like this", Tomitake's only but super cool "manly act" in the entire story.... and on and on and on. Matsuribayashi-hen was filled with touching scenes, really.
The music was simply great with the movie. On their own, I'd still say the 4th song (Rinne no Yume to...) is my favorite. But this newest song (Nageki no Sekai) delivered the best atmosphere out of all 5 videos.

oh, i certainly believe you ^^ it's just quite hard to link the screencaps of tragedy, while the tempo isn't really fitting it. in the other hand, the problem is also the... well some "hate" for takano in the first place XD. (i know takano is more than a "mad baddy" in the first place but hard without her scenes in Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi... this is a pity, i really need serious japanese lessons ~~)
akasaka's arrival was indeed really intense. (i guess the impact would be complete with minagoroshi finished, since he should be there for the first place !)
but the real kiljoy in this MAD for me was the reunification of every couples of higurashi... with just this, i can't stop imagining how the story ends in matsuribayashi T_T

But this newest song (Nageki no Sekai) delivered the best atmosphere out of all 5 videos.for the song, i guess the issue comes from the... japanese comprehension, nothing else x_x. so i'm rather judging with the tone, tempo, rythm etc... and well, without any comprehension for both scenes, sentences and song lyrics, it would lessen the impact for about 75%? ~~
since i don't understand much, the pace of the song seems a bit wrong for me... but yeah, it's rather a superficial impression :/

Nakanai Kimi to Nageki no Sekai requiem for themselves and tragedies (You who Don't Cry and the World of Bewailing - requiem for themselves and tragedies)
Song used in the music video:
嘆きの世界
Nageki no Sekai
World of Bewailing
Vocals: Shinra Etsuko
Translation:
As if always praying, as if merely wishing
So that my voice will reach you, at least...
Illusions accumulate and and disappear
Traces of dreams flow on the swaying surface of water
The shape of sadness projects a shadow
As if always praying, as if merely wishing
The days on which I kept seeking the answer (forever)
My straightforward gaze won't waver
What will the visiting tomorrow reflect, I wonder?
A separating world dyed red
While we repeat the present, tie it up still
And hurt each other's (memories) deeply and gently
At the end of standing up against the pain of touching your heart
(For no matter how many times), I see the light ahead of my distant, chosen path
I have engraved hundreds of millions of memories into my chest
I quench my loneliness and I won't forget the color of his face
If I try closing my eyes, then the world in which you bewail
Tears spill, fall, and return to the sky

Does anyone happen to have/know the tab/chords for "why, or why not"?

It's very much a keyboard driven piece - you'd almost have to figure out
the bass line and then from their figure out the keyboard chords.
So listen to the track and write out the bar lines and write down the
bass guitar notes and then go back and play keyboards or piano and
attempt the keyboard part - it sounds like an electric piano style patch.
I was going to do a cover of "dare, so kare" because it's such a
hard driving piece of music and I have a six string bass it would be
perfect for but that ending build-up of massive keyboards would be
hard to duplicate with my current rig methinks.
Also, the drum programming is about as good as you can get for
drum machines. That would be the hardest part.

Hmm... true. Although, if the sheet music were lurking around somewhere, I could use that.
I'm perfectly capable of figuring it out by ear, but that takes time, something I've been rather short on lately :(

I don't think that's it, check the url of the first one - March 2005. Looks more like that page is an apology about missing a March release date for something last year and nothing to do with this, especially as Tora no Ana still lists the end of December as the release. Roffles at paletweb's response :heh: That's like IKEA saying "oh that item is only sold in furniture stores" :heh:
At least it looks like both Paletweb and Himeya did a good job searching for you. It's true that the collection album is only sold through Tora no Ana. If Tora no Ana doesn't have it in stock, then there's no way to get it through normal methods, since places like Himeya have to get the product through them first.
Tora no Ana's mail order page (http://www.toranoana.jp/mailorder/cit/pagekit/0000/00/59/0000005945/index.html), out of stock, it seems.
If they're really sold out, then it's up to ico-san (http://coscom.pupu.jp/) to decide whether or not she wants add more stock. If she does, then you should see it become available on Tora no Ana's online shop again.
Right now, future restocks is still "under consideration".
Now's the time for webclaps, maybe :heh: (look for the clap.cgi link near the bottom of ico-san's diary, type your message in the text box, and click もっと送る).
Even if you write in English, I'm sure ico-san will get the idea. Who knows, maybe your message will determine whether or not you will get this thing. :heh:

Someone seems to have put a reversed version on the web, and it is apparently much freakier with a few terms that sound like 鬼さんこちら, 逃げられない, あいしでいます popping up here and there within the jibberish. Not sure if it is deliberately done by the composers, or simply a joke by the one who released it. :eyespin:
btw the keyword is ひぐらしのなく頃に逆再生版本 , for anyone who is interested.
I was listening to the full version of anime ED as I read that, and that has "oni-san kochira" in it more than once... Maybe it's a reference to that.
hmm the opening is very good i love it and the full version is so cool but the ed i don't like it :heh:
After one complete listen (well, repeated listens of the vocal tracks), as far as I'm concerned the PS2 version's soundtrack is way better than the anime's. Which is what I hoped, so I'm very happy with it. So far I wouldn't say it was better than the sound novel's soundtrack but well, never expected it would be. Still solid overall and should be fun to play with though.

i agree. while i was kinda sceptical with the "short version" with the PS2 game intro (i thought the screencaps and the song didn't really mix perfectly), the complete song has awesome twists in the tones, and depths of the feelings (although i only get like... 1/10 of the lyrics XD). kudos to Ayane. ("higurashi no nakuuu" is really reasonating in my poor skull ~~)
while the anime OP is almost unbeatable for its overwhelming "sinister" "distorded" aspect of the story, Nageki no Mori just blow with its content, way more faithful to the original story. (because, all of you know... this is more than only "killer lolis crawling with bloody weapons with psychotic laughter" story :heh:)
Yeah, the full version does seem better than I expected, though I didn't mind it initially. It was just a bit... well, bland I suppose. I'd try and get a translation out of the lyrics but my brain's not been working right the last few days. Ah well.
I've got Complex Emerge (b-side of the Nageki no Mori single) and Escape (off the other one) in my head badly though. Those two are reeally catchy. The piano versions from the OST itself are really good too. Going to be buying both singles, anyway. The soundtrack itself has a pretty solid mix too, some really pretty, relaxing themes, (枯れた花園 for example I really like), and plenty of exciting stuff to. 神楽舞 reminds me of F-Zero or something, and the really upbeat instrumental of Nageki on the second disc... and so on. The music actually sounds like it'll contribute, more than the anime's OST which just felt like it was... there.
Hope everyone who wanted the limited edition got their orders in though, it's sold out on himeya and amazon jp already.

Hmm... I preordered from paletweb, but haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone else in this situation heard? I want that soundtrack!

Yep, got my shipped email earlier today along with the tracking code (first time I've used EMS with them, don't want to make it a habit). Surprised you haven't heard from them, maybe they're busy sending them out to others. When did you order it?

A week or so ago... and still nothing, as of this moment. I've used them before to buy the original games, and they were fine then, although I vaguely remember the billing email took a little while to come.
Maybe I'm low on the priority list or something...
I did get the automatic conformation email, but I haven't got anything since then.
Yeah I put mine in a couple of weeks ago, got the billing mail, got the 'we'll make preparations to ship' email about a week ago, then the shipping email this morning. They at least still have some stock in though, which is more than can be said for... well, just about everywhere else you could've bought it.

OK I know this was addressed a few months back, but I'm still seeking the Nakanai Kimi to Nageki Sekai song CD. I know you guys said Toranoana had it, then didn't and Paletweb/Himeya weren't stocking it. Anybody learn anything new since then? It doesn't look like Cosmic Comic's page for the Higurashi stuff has been updated and the Toranoana link goes to a dead page now so I'm just trying to see what info I can get. I saw Yahoo Auctions mentioned so I may check there - the CD's title is just Nakanai Kimi to Nageki Sekai right?

Sadly only found 3 of 5 ... haven't transliterated or translated them as of yet though... took a while to find these 3
[Dear You -Kind-]
Dear You -feel-
You were in the wind of summer-

Since Character CD Vol 1 should have been posted here, i guess i won't do the same mistake twice ~~
Character CD Vol 2 has been released yesterday :
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5843/pcd070425ii5.jpg
Obviously, Starring Yukino Satsuki, as Sonozaki Mion and Sonozaki Shion. (once again, 5 tracks : 2 songs + instrumental, and a Drama)
-Futari no Birthday
their counterpart of Rena's song, egao happy peace, with also, the eerie clash between the twins from Watanagashi-hen
-Ienai Kotoba
Different style, still both twins happily singing
-Mion no Kokuhaku
Mion's confession. well, another fun Drama and this time, Keiichi seems to be "less dense" than usual, thanks to Rena and Shion.
however, things don't go as expected, and in the end, it was Keiichi's Man heart which was litterally trampled :heh:
another excellent Drama CD
also, i got a question : another Drama CD was also released the 25th :
http://higurashi-cd.com/
the second on the main page :
http://higurashi-cd.com/image/cdjake_kataa.jpg
ドラマCD ひぐらしのなく頃に ~語咄し編~
It isn't Tsumihoroboshi-hen (well... begins with Kata... but can't identify the second kanji), and it doesn't appear to be an original arc either from the PS2 or the incoming season 2.
yet, another original arc? only for the Drama CD format?

For some reason, they're all in handwritten Japanese (art, perhaps?) But I'm sure someone in this forum will be able to transliterate it with ease ^0^
Anyway, after listening to all songs in this album, I start to feel that each song is dedicate to a specific character. For example, "Kind" is soooo Satoko's while "Hope" might be Rika's one and "Cry"'s Rena's. Anyone with me?
**I've just finished the romanji for "Cry". Please correct me if there's any mistake ^-^. Ah, and it seems like there's some mistake in the lyric sheet I uploaded. For one part "watashi wa te wo sashinoberu" should be "anata ni te wo sashinoberu" as in the song**

The Album has some images with characters (5 of them). I think they are associated with each of the songs;
In sequence, they are:
1- Rena (track 1: cry)
2- Mion (track2: feel)
3- Satoko (track3: kind)
4- Rika (track4: hope)
here they are:

Dear you -Cry-
Vocals: Yuduki
Next to you, I want to feel
The scent of summer that draws closer bit by bit
The single seconds from the casual every days
Are treasures that worth more than gems
So that these moments will forever
Be surrounded and protected by the tender sunshine
Even if such ordinary days
Are shut by darkness
I believe you
Even if that won’t be forgiven
Sparkle and shine
Smile here all the time
Don’t cry, please listen to my words
Don’t be afraid, because I won’t do anything
I’ll cry together with you for your sake
So please, don’t be so daunted
The cry of summer is too noisy; you can’t hear my voice
I’d like you to stop crying for a little while
Because I’ll forgive you, stop crying…
The voices of the cicadas say that it’s already too late
Nevertheless, I’ll hold my hands out to you
Please believe in me
I want to tell you, “You shouldn’t cry anymore”

Vocals: Minoru Kotoha
Without telling you about the wound in my chest
I simply kneel to the approaching pain
The two of us embraced one heart
You and I were one
The two of us became one and what we gained
It wasn’t something that we wished for
What creeps down my back is an indelible wound and a committed crime
Even if I chase the distant days that can’t return anymore, I won’t reach them
You, in the light breeze and under the sun
That’s right, laughed
If it’s to protect this warm place
I’ll show that I will change into anything
Because I’m living to create tomorrow
Everyday, I’m finding happiness
Because with the 35-degree body temperature that passes from your palms
I can become strong even as it is, I can’t let my tears spill
Without telling you about the wound in my chest
I simply kneel to the approaching pain
But since the seasons won’t wait for me
I’ll overcome the pain and walk toward tomorrow

Vocals: Yukimiya Hinaki
I believe you, but at the tip of my heart
Anxiety casts a little bit of shadow
I was a child who didn’t doubt
The fact that warmth would always be by my side
I held back my tears, tightly bit down on my lips
And became strong so that I can laugh
Please, I’d like you to tell me that the heat of your hands isn’t a lie
Please call my name with a tender voice and don’t leave me anymore
Wishes, prayers, I’ve shouted for many times
But my voice can’t reach you
Now I simply can’t see your shape
But you’re protecting me at anytime
Your kindness melts into the sun
And it’s always by my side without the happiness fading
There are too many things that I don’t notice; I finally understand the lost time
I want to joke around with you in bed and fall asleep in your arms…
I’ll be able to meet you again someday; when that happens
Please say “I’m home”, laugh, and stroke my hair
I’m dreaming, always, at this little place
Waiting for the day when you will embrace me

Dear you -Hope-
Vocals: Hotarubi Kakeru
Without my prayers delivered no matter how I pray
The murmuring voice disappears in the cicada-sounding shower
How many times have I been torn and shredded apart, I wonder
Has hope turned into into despair, I wonder
I promise to become strong the very next time around
So now I grip my hands
The signal of the opening echoes again; I dance the repetition helplessly
A story that composes this world; the finale is only for you
I’ll keep praying faintly
Simply, simply, “for happiness”
Even if there aren’t many futures remaining anymore
I want to protect the precious things to the end
For that, even the act of defying god-
I’ll commit sins unhesitatingly and untiringly
Even if I’m ephemeral like the summer cicadas and I’m to die very soon
I want you to laugh by my side; please give me bliss
Let’s start it again
So that I can surely hope for a happy ending this time
And at least smile tenderly all the while
Until the moment of the end

Vocals: Yuzuki Kaoru
The wind of summer spreads at this place
In the shade of the trees, your hair swayed
My unstopping feelings ceaselessly overflow
Your voice
Your hands
Your eyes
Everything is dear to me
Because tomorrow, if we can huddle our shoulders together, too
Then that which I desire is for you to gently whisper to me
Because you’re standing still and smiling warmly at me
In the wind of summer at all times
I’m able to calmly close my eyes
The dreamlike, endless summer
Is stroking my eyelashes and cheeks softly
As if you and I are able to see the same sky
In the flowing seasons
The palely burning sky reflects the future
This song is for my beloved you
On your warm chest, I’ll leisurely nap
The heartbeats of happiness
Are right by my side

I think the #5 track represents Keiichi, though not form his point of view. After all...
From TIPS, he is seen as "new wind" that will bring changes into Hinamizawa.

The Forest of Grief
Vocals: Ayane
In the deep forest of grief, the cicadas cry…
That day was a very sunny day, but I breathed in a cold wind
Time, in just a tiny instant, stopped its needle
one-way, that cannot return twice.
A lost child looks for a bright place.
People who change and people who desire so
Let them pass, and you come here
Someone cried; where is that sound? Please try peeking quietly, quietly
Good night, good children sleep and the awake children project hands
Is the pale moonlight from one tree? If you hear a lullaby on this path
Then the festival will start and the flames will vanish again; in the deep forest of grief, the cicadas cry…
Fearing those who are kind, and them giving screams
I wanted to cut away my hair and I closed my eyes
one-way, that cannot return twice.
A lost child looks for a bright place.
Whose name does your eyes that dye red call for?
Let him pass; it’ll be fun
The abandoned shadow casted on the shrine; surely, surely, that child doesn’t exist anymore
The day also has a sunset face of a demon, and with a childish smile, I wriggled my wings
If you cry about not having a face, not having a face on your figure reflected in the opposing mirror
Then the festival will start and the flames will vanish again; in the deep forest of grief, the cicadas cry…

I'm just wondering:
For the opening of Higurashi the anime, the beginning part contains some weird chanting
My friend says that if you hear those backwards, it becomes something creepy (and actually with eerie meanings)
Is that true???

When played backwards, you'll hear something that sounds like "You can't escape" throughout the song in Japanese, but that is unconfirmed by an official source and completely up to the listener's interpretation.

i think so..
does any1 know what the second season OP/END songs are called??
i hope they don't keep "why or why not" because i dont like it so much.
Doesn't hurt to check the official website, ANN, or some other information site. ;)
Opening Theme:
"Naraku no Hana (奈落の花)" by Eiko Shimamiya
Ending Theme:
"Taishō.a (対象.a)" by anNina
The ED theme is from the same camp as the first one (Voltage of Imagination), but by a different composer/producer, teh fabulous bermei.inazawa (vocals by Annabel).

so... what?
it would be easier to understand if at least you let a question heh...
if you are wondering about a VOL.6, there isn't any information about it.
the last work they have done is the complete collection of the 5 songs + some extra songs (it appears they are alternative versions)
they don't really have much material to work on, except maybe Saikoroshi-hen.
