This ep is so bad (or plain) that no one want to post a comment? :(

Nah, it's just that only few people here are actually in Japan and able to watch it live and the rest has to wait for raws, which of course take some time to appear on the networks. :)

Anyway, a good episode which had its spotlight on Yuki. Overall it felt just much too short, it was almost over after it started.

Some pictures (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4714/suzumiyaharuhinoyuuutsuepisode.jpg) of the episode, I guess the usual suspects will post a summary on their blogs just shortly hereafter. ;)

A lot of Kyon's sarcastic comments this time. Best scene...hmm...Kyon immitates Mikuru's voice (what was that sound meant to be by the way O_o) knocks on the door and instead it's Haruhi who answers.
Kyon: What. It's only you here.
Annoyed Haruhi: Yuki is also here.
The scene where Mikuru finally arrives another good one by Kyon. "Angel~"

Outstanding was once again the animation. Did they actually even improve by a notch. The special effects were great and I really liked that last scene where Kyon was pondering about the happenings and wondering whether Yuki was lonely. The shot of Yuki was simply beautiful. +10 points

uguu~ screencap doesn't capture the essence of this simply beautiful scene...

Anyway, next week it's back to the second part of the Lone Island Syndrome, so no worries for the ones who did. Though it would've been more fun to put it somewhere at episode 11 or so. ;)

Episode 07 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/05/14/suzumiya-haruhi-no-yuuutsu-07/)

I found the funniest part of this episode to be where they bleeped out the name of Kimidori's boyfriend and when Kyon realized who he was and recapped their previous run-in with the computer research society's president.
Next week is going to be the second part of the island story. I still don't see why they needed to mix things up (other than to screw with the audience).

As usual, the first thing to do was to jump to the end for the episode preview:

So they're finishing it up, good. ^^;
But what's this? Original contents! Kyon and Haruhi never got trapped by the storm inside some cave in the novel. Ooh, something nice to look forward to. ^^

Highlights for this episode:

kaaii~ (>ヮ<)
--------------------------------------
Kyon started off the episode right away talking about Haruhi's condition during Tanabata (Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody happened right before Mysterious Sign timeline-wise). This means that they'll probably do Bamboo Leaf for sure later on (it'd be weird if they didn't, with so many references to it in the anime).

(Notice the bush of bamboo with the tanzakus on them. Plus Kyon's "she's not talking about the Tanabata 3 years ago, is she?" comment)

The winner in this episode again is Sugita-san and his roflmao tsukkomis :heh (his Mikuru impression "Hya~i" was a winner too :heh: ):

Haruhi: "Hmm. I can understand your feelings"
Kyon: (LIAR-- There's no way in hell you can understand what love feels like)

Also, if you go to the SOS-dan official website, the access counter has skyrocketed as well.
The number went from random 2-digits (to reflect the novel, where the the counter never went above 2-digit visits (and most of the visits being Haruhi herself)) to random 4-digits a few days before this episode aired. And when this episode aired, it got set to 029819.

... This was the sole purpose for that counter, wasn't it? :heh:

He wasn't the hacker, he was a victim from staring at Haruhi's 436 terabyte SOS-dan logo that an alien lifeform (information entity) hijacked onto.
(wow that made NO sense)

As for the dimensional transfer, simple: they defeated the creator of the parallel dimension (the alien entity, which took over the poor pc club president's body and represented itself as the cricket thing), so the dimension goes with it.

Assuming it's a windows bitmap, that's about 12 million x 12 million pixels! What the hell was Haruhi thinking?! And does Haruhi know what JPEG is to begin with?!

Just kidding. ;)

So, a little over 1.2 billion x 1.2 billion pixels.

Another thing that continues to surprise me is the attention to detail in even tiny places. This frame of Itsuki's watch (http://home.pusan.ac.kr/~hilman/watch.jpg) is on screen for 8.4 hundredths of a second(at least, counting by the raw I got). And they drew sunlight glinting off the edge of the watch band.

You're right, she said petabytes. I remember it was terabytes in the novel so I assumed it was the same here and didn't listen carefully.

...Then again, coming this far, I don't think a few more zeros matters anymore. ^^;

The actual file size of the image, according to Kyon, should be less than 100kb ("less than 10kb" for the novel).

Heh, my wallpaper at the moment consists of just that SOS Dan logo, I'm still waiting to be sucked into an alien created dimension so I can get myself rescued by Yuki.

In terms of fascinating, Yuki ranks just behind Haruhi. I began to like her whenshe saved Kyon's life in the nick of time from Asakura's knife. After seeing the scene of her looking lonely, I liked her even more. Then when I read volume 4, I simply melted.

So, we're going back to Lone Island Syndrome again next week? I'd better get working on the translation as soon as possible. I was hoping they would show the main arc instead so I could buy myself one more week. :D

Does anyone have a vectorized, Illustrator version of that logo?

Also, would episode 8 then be considered an "original story" by the author? Or a rewrite of sorts?

Lastly, that "The Scarab Beetle has performed wound treatment on you!"... could someone check to see if that has anything to do with Dragon Quest?

Kyon should just go take a picture of Haruhi's sleeping face "to show future generations Her snoozing loveliness" (or to place at his bedside table) :D

With that image Haruhi had just invented the most efficient image compression method known to man and aliens! When can we start using Haruhi-fied jpgs?!?!

I believe Yuki said 436 Petabyte of data. 1 Petabyte = 1000 Terabye. WoW. Is that logo 11 dimensional or what? XD

Speaking of number, I found the number of episodes in the website is divisible by 14 (which is the number of anime's episode). It's 15498 / 14 = 1107. I wonder if it's actually the total number of "Parallel Universes" created by Haruhi XD. In our universe there are only 14 episodes, but there are still 1106 universes out there that have their own MoSH with different story, maybe?

Edit: Sorry Sushi-Y, the petabyte thingy has been pointed out by other before

I found the number of episodes in the website is divisible by 14 (which is the number of anime's episode). It's 15498 / 14 = 1107. I wonder if it's actually the total number of "Parallel Universes" created by Haruhi XD. In our universe there are only 14 episodes, but there are still 1106 universes out there that have their own MoSH with different story, maybe?

A pretty exciting and lively episode all around.

Kyon's seiyuu puts on a fine performance: the subtle tone shifts in his internal monologue, particularly when addressing Mikuru in love-love mode, is a delight to hear.

Strangely enough, what I found to be the funniest (or rather, it just stood out most in my memory) was the little noise and look of alarm that Mikuru makes when Haruhi announces after some calculation, "... and then after we'll just go back to the front gate to distribute flyers again and we'll be all set!" *Chuckle* The poor girl is surely, as Kyon aptly put it, emotionally traumatized.

Izumi +10 Points for putting on a cool show, Yuki gets +7.5 for a foreshadowing commentary from Kyon at the end of the episode. Speaking of Yuki, might someone explain the precise nuance of Kyon's revelation about Yuki being the behind-the-scene instigator of this whole event?

I don't understand why the original author/producers, at the very outset, has made Kyon so obviously inclined towards Mikuru; without fail, there's some Mikuru-Kyon going on in every episode.

Its because Mikuru can't *help* but be cute and moe and .... she's drawn that way.
Appreciating Yuki and Haruhi take.... more work and time. I assume we'll more in those directions as the series progresses but damn we're running out of episodes.... surely they've already got a second season in mind.

FMP references! haahahah

Cal-Reflector

Two questions:

There were... three FMP references in this episode? Two enunciations by Itsumi, namely, Fumoffu and Second Raid, plus the poster in the Comp-Club president's bedroom... but what is that? The poster?

Out of the top of my head, since someone identified it as some reference, is the poster of the "Suppan Girls" that Sosuke lists as one of his favorite music groups as part of his civilian cover?

Question 2: Next episode preview, is that Haruhi or Mikuru that Kyon appears to be reaching for in the bed room?

I had not choice but to give this episode a perfect 10. This one has it all: humour, action, best animation I have seen in this series so far, good story development, references to Full Metal Panic. It's the the best I have seen in this series so far.

The poster in the Computer Club President's room is a poster of Haruhi, Mikuru and Yuki' seiyuus. That poster came with this month's Voice Newtype magazine, a magazine dedicated to anime seiyuus.

Looking forward to the next episode! Seems like Kyon and Haruhi get to spend the night together in a cave!

EDIT:
Cal-reflector, the poster in the comp club prez's bedroom is a picture of Haruhi, Asahina, and Nagato's Seiyuus.

For your second question, from my looks of it, it is neither. I ruled out Mikuru, because well, Mikuru likes to dress in more 'feminine' clothes (don't think I'd see her wearing pants). I thought it was Itsuki actually (Oh noes! Yaoi!), but it's only a week till we really find out, ne?

Three things tied for Best Moments this episode:

- Mikuru's expression when she heard that Haruhi wanted to do the flyer thing again.

- Kyon's rapidfire complaints about Itsuki being way too close for comfort.

- Mikuru grabbing Kyon by the waist and shaking him.

Which isn't to say that other things didn't crack me up, of course. The FMP references we already covered, and the appearance of the cave cricket thing (as well as Itsuki's statement of the obvious) was classic comedy.

The episode ended on kind of a weird note, though. The long explanation bits and the fast action bits all felt a bit disjointed.

I liked Kyon's pronounciation of the word Angel concerning Mikuru.

I love Yuki ten times as much after that episode. <3 Getting to see her in action at last, and that scene at the very end was just... beautiful.

I'm also among the few who like Itsuki, so more of him was great as well. I'm impressed if he was only using one tenth of his power. o_o There was plenty of the reason why I like him too (which seems to be the reason why a lot of people dislike him), the fact that he always seems to have that stupid smile on his face, and to be completely unconcerned by what's going on around him the vast majority of the time.
- Kyon's rapidfire complaints about Itsuki being way too close for comfort.
I loved that bit too. I like seeing Itsuki annoy Kyon, for some reason. xD

It was simply an excellent episode. It was funny as always, it had some good action, more reasons to love the characters, and it left me with plenty to think about afterwards. The main thing being what Kyon brought up at the end: what is Yuki up to, and why.

I'm not sure I can pin down one specific thing as my favourite moment, but the fist thing that comes to mind is Kyon's narration when Mikuru was hanging onto his legs. Excellent work by his seiyuu, that high pitched voice cracked me up.

Edit: For typos. I hate typos. x_x

No, it seems despite being from the future, Mikuru is a normal person. What we saw in episode one was likely Haruhi's doing, much like the talking cat. Maybe human evolution went towards an increased moe factor, rather than any kind of special power? :heh:

Based on the evidence, that seems overwhelmingly likely. >_>

I thought that the eye beams were real myself.

My initial thought was just that she was too scared by the giant bug to think of them. :heh:

But she says that weapons are prohibited, so it seem to doesn't entirely make sense that they're real. I'm a little confused now. Unless they're not considered a weapon, or they're an innate ability so she can't avoid "carrying" them. Or if she had permission to have them "equipped" or whatever when they were making the film... but why would she?

I think watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has had an effect on me, I must be overanalysing this. I'm not sure that it can be very important. x_x

There are evidence to suggest that Mikuru might have been chosen for her role because there was no other choice. That's the irony of it all, I guess.

If you have an important task to perform in the past, but the person who was supposed to do this according to historical records, is completely useless, you will still have no choice but to send that person.

This is just a theory though...;)

The eye beam of Mikuru is...
real. Haruhi forced a colour filtered contact lens on Mikuru when they're making the film, and she believed that Mikuru could really shoot laser beams if she had the contacts on. Haruhi's power kicked in and it came true. Haruhi forced three different lens on Mikuru, each launching different attack(laser beam/dimension cutter/mini black hole). Nagato had to keep on biting Mikuru in order to disable her from firing all those deadly weapons.(poor girl...)

Ah, but that's a result of technology of the future, not some inate power. ;) Besides, from what we've seen in the anime, it only gives her the ability to time travel and recieve info, like you mentioned. Apart from that, she seems completely normal, not even enhanced reflexes, unless she's hiding it to blend in more. Though time travel on it's own is a nice power, even if it's not the most useful in combat.:)

Although very confusing, since Haruhi decides to make her episodes in non-chronological order.

But anyway, the battle scene was pretty sweet with Itsuki's and Yuki's powers. Their stock just went way up.

Also: wtf is up with the Scarab? It was funny, but it was like when I was playing Pokemon, and I'm about to beat Gary for the 189274123644th time, and he uses a potion, and kills me. ):

that's in the original novel too. Some of kyon's comments don't have quotations around them, so you think they're inner monologues. But they're actually said out loud since Haruhi replies to them. It's either Haruhi has mind reading powers, or it's done purposely that way so we don't have to hear kyon talk on and on.

As for the episode, it was a lot funnier than the last one. Some highlights were:

Haruhi: I was planning to attract visitors with erotic images of mikuru-chan

Haruhi: yes i know exactly how you feel
Kyon: don't lie, you have absolutely no idea what it feels like to be in love

Haruhi tries to jack the door open, then rings the doorbell.
Kyon: It's the other way around.

Koizumi: hey i have a bad feel about this place

First, it's not only not the voice he uses when he's actually speaking, it's also not the kind of thing he usually says out loud. Second, it's a weird shot if you're watching it. Kyon's face is out of the frame (you only see Haruhi reflected in the monitor). It seems weird to cut Kyon's face out of a conversation between the two of them unless the purpose is to make it seem like she just responds to something he says. If his face was in the frame, we'd see if his lips are moving or not, so we'd know. This way you're not really sure if she just picked it out or if she's responding to something that was spoken.
I just figured it was either the mind reading thing or a keep-them-guessing type of thing.
At least, I hope it was intentional, it was a very nice touch if it was. :)

It's intentional. I already noted this all the way back in Episode 2. The line between Kyon's speech and his inner thoughts has always been a blurry one in the novel. Not just Haruhi, but everyone else in the novel will "reply" to Kyon's tsukkomis even if he never says them out loud.

The fight scenes where amazing, we this time see a bit more of Itsuki's powers, and even more of Yuki's.
Quoting Angelsama :

Episode 07 - just wow.

"Fumoffu!" "Second Raid!" I wonder where these names come from.. ^^;

That was just AWSOME!, I belive everyone else also agrees :p

In the end though we see reference by part of Kyon on what the motives of the entire episode could have been.., this regarding Yuki..
It clearly states that even Yuki, Itsuki and Mikuru are there to "observe" Haruhi.., they clearly have they're own agenda.., its just like mencioned before.., each ones interest may be the same on most cases.
This at the end was just another fact in that aspect.

In the end it was a great episode all arround.., from the "Scarrab Heals You", to the tremendously ridiculous size of the SOS logo.
Brilliant, simply Brilliant; I gave it a 10 :)

One can only dream...
You of all people would, wouldn't you :D

It strikes me as witty to use a giant bug as a representative of the Computer Club President's greatest fear. :)

You know, computer programs and bugs.

What's next? A giant blue screen of death?

Does Itsuki have a love of board games? He looked like he was really hoping Kyon would play with him.

Oh wow. Hilarious episode, yet again. The FMP references were brilliant, just brilliant. I'm still continually impressed with KyoAn's vibrant and fluent animation and the fantastic cinematography... but the CG cricket didn't mix well. It's probably been the first thing in this series that hasn't been absolutely stunning to look at.

There's something to Yuki, I suspect... a certain depth or enigmaticness that we've only been hinted to. And my guess is that it's going to be explored furthur down the track. Although, considering the ensemble cast, there's probably a big chance the same goes for all characters. It's probably the thing that continues to impress me the most about this series: it's a comedy and humour is far and away what Haruhi does best, yet there's a certain complexity about the story which is extremely intriguing... even if the show itself doesn't take it completely seriously.

I don't think they really cared about the bug.The whole idea was funny and ridiculous. The fact that it was obviously a CG made the scene even better for me.

The kyon's monologue at the end of the ep was weird.I didn't really understand what he was saying.

But YUKI ROCKS and she was pretty at the end.

Yea Yuki is stealing hearts but the Haruhist in me keeps telling myself: "Haruhi is the best, no one else is cuter." and "Mikuru is selected by Haruhi so, shes the 2nd cutest.". I can't seem to bring myself to like Yuki more than Haruhi or Mikuru.

Couldn't agree more. Haruhi is still my fav character with Mikuru a close second.

He he, he does love board game but sucks badly at it. And haven't you notice that he's been doing nothing but playing board games with Kyon inside the club room?

[00:44:26 GMT+0] ArramSalmalin: I do

Further highlights of this ep for me that haven't been listed so far:
Haruhi sleeping in exams:

I KNOW THIS FEELING! There was a girl who'd finish 30 minutes early on 90 minute Further Maths practise papers who got 99% or thereabouts each time.

Kyon: "Wait! Tell me what you're going to do"
Yuki: "nothing" *points*
Kyon: Nandatto????

That got a good laugh out of me. Or to be precise, a good "wifhqoifjo"

'With eyes like liquid helium'

That simile hit me hard for some reason XD

Hitchhiker's Guide to Centra/South Africa

It just reminded me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

But yes... knowing the nature of Yuki's powers (Vol 1 Ch 5)... well adapting a small exerpt from the Art of War (which I've never read btw), a personal motto of mine is:

"Best is to prevent your enemy from coming up with a strategy, next is to prevent their forces gathering, then it's to go meet their army on the battlefield. Therefore, information warfare > logistics/strategic warfare > tactical warfare."

Yuki brings "Information Warfare" to Two whole new dimensions (because one just doesn't sound grand enough) XD

Another excelent episode! I gave it a perfect just like the previous 6!

I loved Haruhi's sleeping face and that, really beatifull, image of Nagato at the end! Apart from that, I could not give credit to Itsuki's attacks "Fumoffu" and "Second Raid" but, with the Sub out, I can laught even more!

Haha, FMP references, I got them even though I don't watch FMP, since Koizumi just said it out loud for us.

First time actually hearing Yuki's chants, that sure was some fast chanting. I had thought she would just move her lips silently.

And what's with the scareb giving the cricket an HP boost? A physical manifestation of the computer society president's obsession with RPG games? :heh:

Haruhi should be disappointed with a counter of 29,819. In the novels, her site got 1 million. :p

The number Kyon said was "一十百千" = 1 * 10 * 100 * 1000 = 1,000,000. By the way, isn't putting a 一 wrong? Might be Kyon's dialect or something...

No, 1,000,000 would be "百万". 100 * 10,000. I have no idea what "一十百千" is.

一十百千 just means that there are alot, like "zillions" or "bajillions" in english. Or he could be counting the digits.

I haven't read this far into the novels yet so i don't know the whole sentence. Which volume/page is the at?

Nah i think 一十百千 should just be literally one, ten, hundred, thousand, which means kyon was just counting.

Anyway another fantastic episode that derserves a TEN!

Nearly laughed to death at memories of mikuru's flyer distribution nightmare and how haruchi owned the computer society president.

Thumbs up for mikuru lower body exercises! Maybe she should teach me aerobics some time.

And yuki scene at was fabulous! Avatar and Signature worthy!

This episode was PERFECT! It had everything I was looking for, and with the addition of a greatly fleshed-out fighting scene (which was STILL hilarious), I'm left suddenly craving for the next episode.

Not gonna be stingy; a 10 for me!

The only reason I didn't throw a 10 at this ep ... it was too short :)
Took me a while to download thanks to connection issues.

Psuedo-random comments (spoilered):

1) Seems to me Itsuki has come to consider Kyon a friend (whatever Kyon thinks of it) and the board games have become an important way of connecting. A lot of people get irritated at his smile but basically it conveys a buddha-like serenity.
2) Some oblique comments made by Itsuki while in the alternate space lead me to believe he had already figured out this scenario was being "directed" by Yuki. He and Yuki are getting along quite well (somehow Yuki&Itsuki sits well in my head).
3) Mikuru establishes indirectly that she must be considered highly expendable by her superiors ... no authority, no weapons, just watch & report. Survive - is not a requirement.
4) Kind of hard to take one's eyes off the bed bouncing Suzumiya --- what evil camera angles --- also loved the pencil play (lips, hands, etc), those moves are popular with debate team students.
5) The staggering size of the data file represented the realspace instantiation of the data entity. The very quiet, very still Yuki is apparently very busy controlling the flow of data into and out of the area around Suzumiya.

6) I REALLY LIKE the way they implemented Yuki's chants and the exhibition of reality data field manipulation (repulsion field). That five seconds scored a 15 in a 1 to 10 range :)

7) Small touches everywhere, Itsuki's battlecries, the prez's bookshelf, the poster of the series three femme VAs --- animation is stellar, shading, light reflection. ... the CG *could* be distracting... but we were dealing with a "game" world and data entities.. so it made perfect sense.

8) Nice directing camera trick of the monitor reflection of Suzumiya and Kyon in the first sequence.

I'm going to be stunned if this series doesn't get an extension season...

Ah wow, this episode was fun. A solid 9 from me, slightly only missing the 10 mark set up by episodes 0 and 1. Much much better than last week's. Kyon's remarks were just so deliciously entertaining. I swear, he's the most amusing male character since Morita from Honey and Clover (although Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club is up there too). I'm starting to love all the scenes where Yuki is in them, and in this ep she was just awesome and steals the spotlight. Of course......I would never go so far as to say she's greater than Haruhi.....*cough* :heh:

Ah wow, this episode was fun. A solid 9 from me, slightly only missing the 10 mark set up by episodes 0 and 1. Much much better than last week's. Kyon's remarks were just so deliciously entertaining. I swear, he's the most amusing male character since Morita from Honey and Clover (although Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club is up there too). I'm starting to love all the scenes where Yuki is in them, and in this ep she was just awesome and steals the spotlight. Of course......I would never go so far as to say she's greater than Haruhi.....*cough* :heh:

Oooo... you have drawn reference to Morita Shinobu, the God of capitalism and WIN. In terms of spontaniety and ability, Haruhi would most closely resemble Morita, but Haruhi is dominatrix, and Morita gets owned by Ayu consistently. Morita has displays moments of "serious" maturity, Haruhi has not... yet.

I posit that if Morita met Haruhi, Haruhi would make an exception to her Alien-Esper-Future-People rule, because with Shinobu around, she'll forget the meaning of "bored."

Couldn't agree with you more Vexx! But the reason I didn't give it a 9 was... NO MIKURU-CHAN FANSERVICE!!1!one!!eleven!!! Sleeping Haruhi almost made up for it but I'm having Mikuru withdrawls right now! *watches episode 5 for kawaii Mikuru fix* I'm thinking that the shot with the computer monitor was actually inside the monitor. Note how the window buttons are on the left side rather than the right. Even cooler effect IMO. It's like you're in the cave cricket's perspective looking at the insanity of the SOS clubroom.

Future Mikuru had already showed up by this time...this means no matter what happens, Mikuru is going to grow up--that's what already happened. So even if you push Mikuru down a volcano she'd survive somehow and grow up...

Yuki does not control anything around Suzumiya. Her order is to 'observe' and ensure Suzumiya's safety so she can observe more...You will see in the future...Suzumiya looped the summer holiday and whenever the summer holiday ends, it goes back to the beginning of it. No one noticed that 'cause their memories are resetted, but Nagato, being a data entity, whoose brain is not affacted by time and space, remains concious and knows that time have been resetted. The cycle repeated over 15 thousand times...yet Nagato never did a single thing...

And no, they're not in a 'game' world when fighting. If they die in the desert, they die...They're in a world created by the data entity(the cricket) through the tissue of the computer club president(still no name...I love it the way when they covered it up when the girl spits his name out...)

Oh, and if you think Itsuki's fighting in this episode is powerful, wait till he fights the giant...He is correct---you don't want to see him when he's serious...(scary...)

Yeah, I didn't have a clue what a cave cricket was....so half way through the episode when it showed up, I paused it and did a google search. Damn that's one bigass looking cricket! Scary, scary! Don't mess with that thing.

As it has been said many times already too, the Fumoffu and Second Raid parts were hilarious. I didn't exactly understand what was going on during the Fumoffu part. I was kind of thinking, "wait a second...is fumoffu an actual japanese phrase now? or are they making fun of FMP?" After he said Second Raid though...I couldn't stop laughing. I'm a huge fan of FMP. :)

I must admit too, I was kind of hoping that Kyon would pull some random awesomeness out of air. He so can't be a normal human. He has to be special!

This episode is definitely amongst the top of the series so far.

I love it when Yuki uses her powers. I think this is the first time you actually hear her while she's using it too.

The CG felt a bit weird, but as mentioned previously it's nowhere near the horror that FSN's dragon was.

I don't understand the superiors who sent Mikuru back in time to deal with Haruhi. She's scared of almost everything, including her own shadow, is this some way just to get rid of her?

I think Vexx believes something along the lines of Mikuru being expendable, or the only one able to fit the role, so they used her.

I believe that they sent someone who could get close to Kyon, who, as has been mentioned numerous times, is the "key" to Haruhi's powers.

Thirdly, Haruhi is just so whimsical it borders on abusive ... and Mikuru is so submissive that she gets the brunt of Haruhi's 'desires' XD

Well, probably Mikuru was causing huge moe reactions, which sweeped like plague across the land, paralyzing male population. So, her superiors (bitc... eeeh I mean other women) thought they'd sent her to suffer :p

I mean, even Kyon, the "Chosen of God" :p is entranced by Mikuru. Mikuru has to be some sort of Moe-Kami.

being the narrator and talking about his opinions to the public (well thinking to himself) seems like wht everyone does if he/she faces some they would like to comment on but rather keep it to themselves...its funny to see how kyon keeps witty comments to himself regarding Haruhi's actions and her 'fake' or false intentional comments herself...

i also laughed quite a bit when that esp guy (forgot the name :p) got close to kyon and when kyon shows his dislike by saying
'don't use a serious tone...don't breath on me...your face is really close...freaking me out!'
ive rewatched that phrase 15 times now and still laughing XD its the way and the speed in which he says it lol...eps i give 10/10 for exellence...

As for Mikuru, her primary mission is to observe Haruhi and make sure she isn't bored, correct? If so, she was likely choosen for observational skills and a submissive personality. We know she has the latter, and there have been hints that she has the former as well. After all, she did notice what Yuki was immediately, though she could have been briefed. Just some comments before I go to sleep:

This episode really expresses Haruhi's moeness, not just the sleeping visage.

We all know Haruhi has beautiful hands, at around 10:09/10:10, we can also see that her hands are delicate and small. Looks like hands that needs to be held by someone else, I don't know, but it looks really cute to me lol. Shes was also in the pose where she looks straight into a person's face, if you look at episode 5, around 5:27, you can see that her back archs really beautifully.

Haruhi made the really interesting expression with the pen on her upper lip.

Also I loved it when she was bouncing on top of the com president's bed.

The way she enjoyed the expired warabimochi glows with cuteness too lol.

Damn, Haruhi has driven me crazy again. Maybe I'll dream of her tonight, woohoo!

Hmmm which do you guys think is more plausible:

Haruhi's desire gathered everyone into the SOS-dan.

Or Kyon's theory that maybe Yuki was lonely and decides to gather everyone.

Also, if we ignore reasons, who do you think was the one who gathered everyone.

Actually I think you have Kyon's theory slightly off... It's more Kyon hypothesizing that Yuki has always been solving incidents by herself but this time dragged the SOS-dan into the 'cave cricket' incident because she was lonely and not Yuki gathering everyone into the SOS-dan/forming the SOS-dan.

Yep I liked that idea of Yuki making this up because she was lonely. After all, she is one of those data-entities. Really really liked that last part, when Kyon was thinking about Yuki, for me it somehow gave much more depth to Yuki's character, it actually made me consider her seriously for once. This silent, book-absorbed literary club member.

I also liked the repulsor field! (I did not understand any of the references to FMP because I have never heard of FMP :heh:) But Wow. I liked the rendering of it. One of the seriously well animated parts of this series. Gave it a 9.

Well, Yuki can do more stuff than protective barriers, too bad we didn't get to see her on the offensive.

lol ic whats happening, at first the only weird 'hack' i saw was the counter showing [AIR HUH]. Then after refreshing dozens of times, I saw that the counter reverts to normal [029819].

The counter from the source:
if( Math.random() < 0.2) {
document.write("029819");
sostitle.src = "img/zoz_title.gif";
soslogo.src = "img/zoz_logo.gif";
} else {
document.write("AIR HUH");
sostitle.src = "img/sos_title.gif";
soslogo.src = "img/sos_logo.gif";
}

Then later I found that the SOS dan logo changes too, it is SOS when [AIR HUH] is displayed, ZOZ when [029819] is displayed. lol fun stuff.

Theres more, not sure if its something new, but I never noticed it. If you look closely theres a tiny nekoman somewhere. Swing your mouse over it and it will teleport to somewhere else. I had some fun with that lol

I guess this is the full effect of episode 7 not episode 8, I didn't notice this before.

I just noticed that Itsuki gives Yuki a Significant Look after he rattles off that 'perhaps it was judged that [one tenth of my power] would suffice.'

So I'm thinking that Yuki did tailor the scenario, even up to the point of deciding how powerful Itsuki would be in the dataspace so that the fight would be somewhat exciting.
