I hope they don't botch the film. I guess you can't botch that version, but it'd be awful to see a Blood + version

wooth wooth wooth! :D thats good news
i liked the Blood anime movie, but the only thing that annoyed me was the ending.. it wa skinda short and wham it was over when i think.. it wasnt even fully over yet
its been a while since ive seen that movie though
Can anyone here recommend a good fansubber for blood+? the one im using atm are so damn lazy ^^ im waiting for 33 to be subbed
Tieris: Not only is that wildly offtopic, the series has also been licensed, and thus subbing of it is not up for discussion here. Not to mention that fansubbing is generally done for free, and ragging on fansubbers for being "lazy" because they dare to have other priorities than giving you your free anime fix is rude to say the least.
On topic: The idea of a Blood live-action movie is nice, but... I dunno. I'm kinda iffy about it, to be honest. If it's a straight remake, it's liable to be baaad... on the other hand, if they do an adaption or something... I dunno. I guess I'm willing to give it a chance, but I'm not going to go into squeaky fangirl mode just yet :)
At an interview for Ain't It Cool News (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30049), Ronny Yu disclosed the preliminary aspects for the story.
It is to be set at Tokyo, 1948 during USA occupation of Japan and takes place at an American Army camp. When asked if the story will move forward to the present-day, Yu vehemently denied so replying that he's looking for the film to be visually effective to the audience, and what better way to than set it at a post-WWII Japan scenario; cities laying in ruins and debris, covered with corpses, and death looming everywhere.
Yu also replied that shooting will start either on October or November at both Tokyo and Melbourne.
This even pre-dates Blood: The Last Vampire. So, this is a prequel? This franchise keeps getting bigger and Blood+ isn't released to R1 DVD yet.
Well, at least whoever has this movie didn't take the license for the anime also like what happened to Battle Angel.
Can anyone here recommend a good fansubber for blood+? the one im using atm are so damn lazy ^^ im waiting for 33 to be subbed
Now we can't do that. :nono: Besides whoever is doing it should be hoping that they don't become MPAA cannon fodder. This is licensed by Sony and is rumored to be under negotiations for cable TV in R1.
So this whole property started with just one little 50-minute OVA?
Now manga, 52-ep anime series, live-action movie.
I wonder who in Production I.G. has the connections.
According to the interview that Ronny Yu gave, both he and Bill Kong are financing the film by themselves. It is being produced independently without Hollywood backing; right now Ronny Yu is helping the visual effects supervisor hired to make the design of the Chiropterans.
Yu also said that what he's looking forward with the Blood live-action film is to reinvent the whole vampire genre of horror, deviating totally from what the West conventionally knows of vampiric lore.
Little bit of news, Production I.G have agreed (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9746) to the movie. Likely release date is spring 2008.
Korean actress Ji-hyun Jun (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0432428/) will play Saya. I guess they couldn't find a bankable enough Japanese actress for the lead role?
Production I.G has announced that 'Blood the Last Vampire,' produced in 2000, will be made into a live action movie by company French Pathe. Production I.G has given it's consent. Pathe will spend approximately 20 million Euro (US$25 million) on the production. With shooting scheduled to start in January 2007, a worldwide theatrical release is expected in spring 2008.
The original movie won best animation at the 4th Japan Media Arts Festival and spawned a TV-series 'Blood+' produced from 2005 to 2006. Copyright holder Production I.G. gave it's consent for a live action production by French Pathe through American video distributor Manga Entertainment.
Pathe is the largest independent film studio in France, producing movies, distributing them and managing their movie licenses. The movie will be produced by Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero) and directed by Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason). Ji-hyun Jun (My Sassy Girl, Windstruck) will star as lead Saya. The international production aims for a world wide audience.

Ji-hyun Jun ( Saya )
Production I.G was not payed for the license, but will instead to receive royalties from all revenue created by the movie. Generally, when manga and anime are adapted into live-action movies outside of Japan, remake rights are usually sold for a flat fee, which in the case of a hit, bars the original copyright holder of further revenue.
If the movie is a hit, this will lead to a sharp increase in revenue through ticket and dvd sales. Since the movie's theatrical release is expected in spring 2008, impact on Production I.G's profits is likely to be seen 2009 or later.

Ji-Hyun looks pretty. I wonder if Saya will have long or short hair. I'm not sure if this can be considered a prequel. If so, I'd like to see that in writing. I wonder if we'll see the villains from the animated series since those guys lived for centuries anyway and seemed to be or were close to influential people.
Another question of topic is will Haji also appear in the live-action film as well?
I guess no coz its Blood : The Last vampire not Blood+ . But cant say due to poular demand they may get him in the movie . If Haji is cast in the Movie who would they cast ?
I would go for Orlando Bloom :)
Live Action Blood The Last Vampire Filming Gets Underway Next Month
Korean Actress Ji-hyun Jun will begin work on the live action Hollywood adaptation of Production I.G.'s Blood: The Last Vampire around the middle of March. The production crew and cast will be heading to South American country, Argentina's capital Buenos Aires at that time. A U.S. military base there will serve as one of the sets. Currently, Ji-hyun Jun who will play the lead Saya is studying in the United States, working hard at learning English, kendo and military arts. She's scheduled to wrap her studies around the 25th and visit Korea again in a few weeks before joining the production team in South America.

I cant wait for the movie to be released hope it spawns a sequel and we get to see Blood+ Chracters :D
Hey wait, this is Hollywood? I thought there was going to be a live action version produced in Hong Kong?
Wonders who will be best suited to play Solomon if Blood+ was made into a live action . I cant picture any actor in my head

The first real promotional pic has appeared for the live action remake of the hit Anime, 'Blood: The Last Vampire.' It shows lead actress Chun Ji-hyun in character as the Vampire Saya, next to co-stars JJ Field and Liam Cunningham.

I think it looks a wee bit too much like a "real" photo, when it should be more stylized, I guess? Like, its how a real photograph would look, what with the subjects all stiff and uncomfortable looking, but... it should have a little bit more style to it, I think, for it to be promotional work.
Here's the first real pic of Saya then...

I think I'll still need to see a trailer before I'm wholly convinced, but that's a little bit more encouraging at least...

Okay, I'm not going to lie. That first "promo" shot had me thinking, "Oh, please, no. Go back. Just, go back." But, the live action shot has a little more magic to it. More intensity, meaning less 1950's horror movie gone bad vibe.
Here's the first real pic of Saya then...
I'm not normally very interested in live action remakes of anime (or western cartoons, either), but this looks like it has the potential to be a really good action horror movie. If they can just afford good CGI for the chiropterans and a good fight choreographer, it could be a winner. <fingers crossed>

ShockTilYouDrop found another picture at the American Film Market on a brochure or whatever with an actual summary. Link to the pic is below.
http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=3252
"On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year-old, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400-year-old "halfling." Born to a human father and a vampire mother, she has for centuries been a loner obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts. When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization she works for, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Using her superhman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the base's general that Saya learns of her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability for human connection..."
pascalbrunobonnet from actually found a major spoiler on the blog from one of the crew member's of the movie and posted in IMDB forums. If it is true, it confirms actress Koyuki's (Taka from the Last Samurai, Sumire from Kimi wa Petto) role in the movie considering it has been said that she is suppose to have a big showdown with Saya. WARNING. HUGE Spoiler on the story's climax
http://carrickmooregerety.blogspot.com/
"This set, though, is the location of the last big action scene in the movie, in which the vampire protagonist (Gianna June) is forced to kill her own mother to fulfill her destiny and protect her non-vampire, American friend (Allison Miller). The scene involves lots of the amazing cable work made famous by "Crouching Tiger," but this week, poor Allison has been mostly playing the victim. I have seen her thrown by the mother vampire, dragged from the brown water, and lying semi-conscious and soaking wet in the mud."
It looks like the finale takes place in China. It also seems that Saya is in for a big emotional journey; she develops such an attachment to this American girl that she's willing to kill her own mother to protect her.

The trailer looks very promising , its very slick and may be better than the movie . Action sequences are done nicely . It seems inspired by the anime movie as opposed to a remake . The visuals so far are stunning though I quite didn't get who the lady in white Kimono was . The action sequences felt a tad familiar especially the slow motion and wire sequences almost feels like a martial art movie. Was expected as producer is the same person who made Hero and CTHD.
The vampires or the infected ones seem inspired by Blade . The vamps shown in trailer were really stylish . The only problem which may arise ENGRISH, other than that I am satisfied . Its good to see they have taken a concept and added a positive spin to it . The question lies will it deliver
The movie will premier in :
- Japan (May 29, under the title Last Blood), and will then
- United Kingdom (June 12) and France (June 17).
I cannot believe I forgot that this existed! Thanks for the link, Geta Boshi.
I'm very impressed with what I am seeing so far. They picked a good person for Saya. I really felt "Saya" in her. The atmosphere of the movie matches the atmosphere I felt in the movie. Visuals are sweet too. I wonder who that woman wearing the White Kimono is?
Of course, I don't really know what the plot of the movie is, but that's somewhat acceptable since the Blood: The Last Vampire was really vague, too.
I have hopes for this movie.
It seems like an oriental version of Blade also no Haji, true to the first movie . I cant wait for the extended version trailer . I also noticed the famous scene from Blood+ included at 1.13-1.14 , the awakening of Saya and massacre of Viet Cong and American troops
Praying the one in white Kimono is not Diva .........
Diva wasn't in Blood: The Last Vampire anime version so no worries.
But...
It does take a lot of punch out of Saya if she isn't alone. That's what was best with Blood: TLV anime. I hope the dead weight chick gets killed fast. Revenge is a lot better to see executed.
Wow, a live-action Hollywood rendition of an anime that looks like it might be good. Wait, did I just see a pig fly by?
Diva wasn't in Blood: The Last Vampire anime version so no worries.
Yeah I know ^__^ As I had said Its good to see they have taken a concept and added a positive spin to it. The trailer doesn't look true the to Blood the anime movie . So we will have to keep shooting arrows in the dark to who it is . We have to see how the original character is handled .
Also Simon and Haji were great characters they will be missed. Hopefully this is a commercial success and there is a sequel planned on the lines of Blood+ . The other good thing is blood and gore are not toned down . When Anime/Manga to Live Action transition happens. Lot of stuff is censored left out to make it mainstream i.e. universally appealing . The last Live Action Movie I watched was DMC and lot of jokes/situation were toned down . Glad its not the same thing for Blood

Sweeeeeeeeeet. :D
I went to see 20th Century boys: part 2 last week and picked up a poster of something that looked interesting (for all the huge cardboard cutouts they had) but didn't realise it was the same movie.

Back (http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4927/rimg1116.jpg)
Japanese movie website (http://lastblood.asmik-ace.co.jp/)
Anyways, adding that to my list of 'must see movies for the summer' - glad i got gore and action on the list too ^^
A part of me kinda wishes this would be an adaptation of Blood+. They could easily take what they want to make a 90 minute movie.
Still i'm all for this. Happy to see it'll be airing in the UK in just a few months times. Shall have to rewatch the movie before then.
After watching the kick-ass trailer -- damn, it put Blade to shame -- I'm giving this flick a real chance.
Wow, I never thought I'd actually say this, but this looks really appealing. The formula looks pretty good, too. It's Hollywood, yeah, but they're putting Chinese filmmakers at the helm who, in turn, adopted their orientalism-made-for-Hollywood style (ala their credentials) for the endeavor (which means, it probably won't be Engrish as some are fearing, but properly spoken English). It looks to be a formula that may prove successful--since I think that while the Japanese come out with awesome concepts and animation, their live-action adaptations usually leave much to be desired, and the ones done fully by American Hollywood filmmakers so far don't fare much better. Maybe this looks especially good because B:TLV is inclined towards the martial arts and Chinese filmmakers are masters at action sequences involving them.
It only says there 'Coming Soon' though. I wonder when it'll be released in theaters. I'd pay money to watch this. =)
Thanks for posting the trailer!
Came across an image gallery for the movie unfortunately they aren't promotional images . Slightly spoilerfic not more than the trailer, those who are interested : D

Well after the craptastic DBE this looks like the next anime - live action movie that will be released.
It has the producer behind Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon so it will definitely be stylish and have artistic value. From the trailer it looks like it could be a fun ride!

I loved Blood The Last Vampire soooooo much! I still don't think Blood+ is as good, and this movie just hasn't sold me. Although it has alot more going for it than most. I'm glad they changed directors, although from just trailers I don't see much of a difference.

Well
The movie looks cool
But, by the trailer, it doesn't seem at all that the story will be the same as the OAV...
It seems they are just getting the general setting of Blood universe and creating something new
Saw it and while they took the overall plot in some what of a merged version of the OVA and Blood+ plot they nailed some of the best scenes from the OVA almost perfectly. The dialog wasn't the best but honestly neither was the OVA's. If you liked the original OVA and can be layed back about the overall plot and roll with it, I think you'll get a kick out of the movie.

Definately a good movie! Jun Ji-hyun made an awesome Saya and boy was her accent sexy! My only problem is that you can barely understand Koyuki.
Definately a good movie! Jun Ji-hyun made an awesome Saya and boy was her accent sexy! My only problem is that you can barely understand Koyuki.
Funny I could understand her just fine... :p
Granted Koyuki did have a very thick accent. However, of the very few who could actually act in this movie, I'd say during the pre-climatic scene how she exihibited such eloquence with her gestures and facial expressions while delivering the dialogue in the language she clearly had little proficiency was just about the only thing I found good about this movie. The rest was just a big "meh" for me sadly.
I have not watched the movie yet
What do Blood and Blood + fans think of the Live Action ? does it match up to original movie and is it as good as the series.
Well the movie didn't garner any good reviews I was planning to watch it at the theater. But now might drop the idea all together and only stick to DVD release. The reason I am being skeptical is live actions have left me sort of high and dry , thank to DBZ / Chun Li . My expectations are low let see if the movie entertains

Yeah the film as a whole was pretty poor...it did have few nice homages here and there to the anime original, but that was about it really.
It's best not to expect too much out of this adaptation...actually go at it with no expectation at all and you should be fine! :D

Is it just me or the 'special effects' were very poor?
Other than that, it's worth 90min of your time, if you have nothing to do....
Nothing great here... but it entertains
