Good setup episode, lots of Tenma, Lala, Tae, and Tougou so can't complaint. Loved the intro part it was shonen to the max:heh: Satsuki is pretty cute, especially trying to show off infront of Asou and Mikoto. Next week the big game:)

Episode 08 Screencaps and summary (http://www.designchronicle.com/memento/archives/school_rumble_2nd_term_ep8.html)

I love the part where LaLa bashed Imadori senseless. There's also a running theme of girls eating a lot here

Episode 08 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/05/21/school-rumble-ni-gakki-08/)

The start of the basketball arc is here! Aside from all of the basketball playing, I think Lala alone made this episode hilarious. Well, Lala and Imadori both. The manga style scenes at the beginning were a nice touch not found in the actual SR manga.

Guys, what episode do you think will there be more HarimaXYakumo moments?

Moogster
2006-05-23, 06:52
Probably around Maybe ep. 11-12 at the rate the anime is going.

That will only be a few chapters. Chapter 143,145,146,147 (145 + obviously a set up for Flag). After that No more Yakumo x Harima moments if I remember correctly.

Well, it is just right to happen that way. From the beginning there was really nothing at all. All Imouto-san. :)

Harima is a bastard for falling in love with someone that stupid ... but then, that's love ... LOL. (I meant Tenma ... NOT Yakumo.)

nothing. only further misunderstanding....

But lots of Flag incidents. resistance is futile, Flag will prevail!

yeah as i so presumed... Harima and Tenma are like chicken and duck trying to communicate together.. it's so sad... but in that case School RUmble can go on forever.... !! ^^

I really wish there will be some more development between Harima/Eri and Harima/Yakumo. Those are the 2 most interesting pairs imo.

I'm relatively a new blogger - I'm really open to comments on how to improve my site, so I hope you check out my summary and take of SR Episode 8.

Episode 8 In-depth Summary (http://animeotaku.wordpress.com/2006/05/24/school-rumble-2-08/)

I'm not joking when I say in-depth. ;)

Yakumo is really cute in this episode. Resistance is futile when she is like that! Next week seems to be really interesting, with a makeshift team that somehow Yakumo is on?!?! With Yakumo, Tenma, and Harima on the same team, I am surprised Eri is not joining them. The way SR handles things, it is unlikely the Black team will win, but it will probably be fun along the way.

Does Satsuki really like Asou, or does she just admire him as a senpai? It's hard to tell this episode. Also, why would she refuse to go to the restaurant with everyone and then later on join?

physics223, your summary was nice. You probably should not put in negative opinionated words, such as "Tenma then laughs like an idiot," since it might offend her fans.

physics223
2006-05-24, 10:06
Thanks. I didn't mean it derogatorily, however. People laugh like an idiot all the time xD ... :)

Personally, I think that Mikoto likes Asou. Satsuki likes Asou, too, I think.

she thought that they woudnt be there anymore by the time she arrive from what i can say after reading the manga parts for that episode.

With Yakumo, Tenma, and Harima on the same team, I am surprised Eri is not joining them.
Whenever Eri is in the same scene as Harima, she has to have some form of interaction with him, and that interaction immediately grabs the story's focus. Eri's not in this for the same reason why you don't see Harima and Eri work together in the Survival Game. The point of this story arc, like the Survival Game, is to shift the focus away from the central characters and develop some of the other characters in the story.
Eri should have a small scene with Harima soon, though, iirc.

physics223, if you're planning on continuing to blog SR: S2, why don't you add your blog to the list on the SR wiki? I've been trying to keep track of all the SR blogs over there. :)

I sure as hell hope this was a filler episode. Rated this ep a 5/10. There was only one funny part, and that was when Imadori faked out Gori and then said, "Baka, baka, baka, baka." Oh, when Gori was named Gori, it was kinda funny too.

Other than those two scenes, totally worthless episode imo.

Moogster
2006-05-25, 01:22
this was no filler episode. This arc concentrates about the different SR characters relationships or IMO a set up for a certain relationship to happen.

Xinil
2006-05-25, 16:00
Why are they introducing more relationships when we haven't gotten anything out of the current ones that have been around for 30+ episodes?

*sighs*

Moogster

That's why SR is interesting. Even the side characters have stories to tell.

Because the story is over when the current relationships become concrete?
I thought it's obvious?

obviously it wasn't...

while some animes are best told after the relationship is sorted, as in: "it's just beginning" type of thinking, School Rumble is more of a: "getting there is half the fun" sorta thing. :)

The story is most definitely not over. I'm not saying the relationships have to become concrete. I just want them to continue working on THOSE (all the main characters) relationships. I think it's totally unnecessary to introduce more characters when they have plenty they can work with, with the original charactes. I don't mind them showing new characters and such, but when they spend 70% of the episode working with new characters (like this one)...it's kind of annoying.

i can agree with you on that one...due to their strategy, which you described, of introducing and focusing on new characters instead of further developing the already introduced characters from season 1, is starting to get annoying

Moogster
2006-05-27, 15:15
Take it easy guys its only ONE character they introduced. Just wait for the next episode and you will see that it is a set up for a certain relationship with the old characters.

I hope they don't drag it beyond the second season. I mean, this whole "misunderstanding-double misunderstanding-reset" is killing me. I hope the manga ends pretty soon so they can end the anime too :p

Well, an introduced character can also be used as a tool for the main characters' relationship development, no need to start focusing on the new character :p We have enough decent characters to develop.

This episode bored me. I realize the whole point was the set up the basketball arc, but geez it was a chore to watch, nonetheless.

This season has really been sporadic so far, to say the least. There have been a few good moments here and there, but it's had none of the consistancy of the first series. This episode pretty much epitomizes it. I've been very disappointed with SR so far this season. My theory is that it's because Harima has had a bit of a back seat to date. Let's face it, he was one of the big reasons why the first season why so endearing, and, with him relegated to a side role, the rest of the cast really seem to lack that certain energy to make things interesting.

physics223
2006-06-02, 22:46
It will probably pick up. But then again, as one poster said, all this misunderstanding bullshit is getting old. The manga has to near an end else this isn't sitting pretty with me.

Although I do like what will happen next episode, but I can totally understand how you feel (I think).

I actually enjoyed this episode. Not as funny as some episodes in the seocnd season by any means but it had it's moments. The season as a whole has lived up to my expectations from watching the first season. Funniest show of the spring season for me, closely followed by Ohran High School Host Club and The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

If I were to rate it I'd probably give it a 7.

Tenma was Hilarious! is this episode :heh: I'm no big Tenma fan, but I'm finding I like her more now. Tenma - "It's what they call a 'slow starter', you know." :heh:

Fantastic episode, though it was werid since I watched episode 9 before this ^^; Lala was quite funny.. she does yell to much at times, but other then that she is great to watch. The new girl was quite normal compared to the rest of the cast or to characters that just come onto the show, it doesn't look she will be around for long, still.. I enjoyed the focus she got.

Oh! and Just the one moment with Harima was perfect :heh: the Basketball Ring sure was big!

Since I did watch episode 9, I have to say this episode was a great set-up for it.

I felt bad when poor Tenma was on the swing all alone. It's still hard for me to believe that Yakumo is the younger sister, makes no sense whatsoever. I don't know why they didn't just make her the elder

Yeah, one of the few times I actually felt bad for Tenma. I mean... you know... it felt like making fun of someone who's retarded but has high enough intelligence to understand his situation. Poor Tenma :heh:

This episode suffered from lack of Harima. It doesn't matter WHO Harima interacts with, as long as he does. Of course, YakumoxHarima or ErixHarima interactions are the best :D I hope the next episodes feature more Harima.

Shredder
2006-06-03, 13:37
Yakumo/Harima is usually touching/sweet/endearing, Eri/Harima kinda witty and snappy, and I also like comic moments between him and Hanai going head to head. I do hope the upcoming eps pick things up again and put some of the crap characters on backburner, otherwise it's more fast forward. Is Tenma going to be a fatty? That would be funny

npal
2006-06-03, 13:42
. Is Tenma going to be a fatty? That would be funny

Hope that doesn't lead Harima to this train of thought:

"OMG, WTF, Tenma's become a rhino! No... wait... Could she be... [baseless, irrational thought that somehow directs Tenma's actions towards him as a display of affection]! YES!! Now I understand! Thank you Tenma-chan!!! I'll grow fat and heavy, too!"

You think so? I think those two shows have been far and away funnier than SR this season.

Yep. IMO if I compare the first 8 episodes of all these shows(the minimum amount of eps I've seen subbed of all 3) I'd have to say that I've found SR season 2 on average to be funnier than the other two shows. Even some of the weaker episodes of SR, such as this one, I've found to be funnier than the weakest episodes of the other shows mentioned. There have been certain weeks where I thought "hmm this was funnier than this weeks SR episode" but as I said the majority has been the other way round. Now you could argue that the other shows have more going for them than just the comedy and I probably wouldn't disagree but I still stand by my opinion I stated previously. Obviously this could change with future episodes.

npal
2006-06-03, 14:30
I think all of them are funny, each in its own way, that is. Thank God this spring/summer has so many great series to watch :D Although, if SR really tries, it can outshine Ouran High School at least, although the Host Club is pretty funny, too.

Sorrow-K
2006-06-03, 20:17
Yeah, SR at its best is funnier than Ouran at its best, but SR hasn't been at its best often enough this season.

Though (and this is opinion, remember), I think Suzumiya Haruhi > SR and Ouran, pretty much unconditionally.

Shredder
2006-06-03, 22:37
What parts would you say were SR at its best? I thought bald Harima and Eri bonfire dance were top notch. Unbearded and bald Harima eps had me laughing til my face hurt. I just started Ouran, first ep was boring but few series start off strong right away

Oh I'd probably agree with that if we were talking overall quality, as I love Suzumiya Haruhi. Comedy-wise I don't think it quite matches SR though(IMO).

Also don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the other shows either(this isn't aimed strictly at you Sorrow-K). I think they're all brilliant shows in their own right.

Good episode, rating it 8/10. It had it's moments but it could have been much better. Like others said too, lack of Harima! :heh: But his brief onscreen moment was still funny.

As for the 3 comedy's of Spring being talked about, I personally am still enjoying School Rumble more then both. I really love Suzumiya Haruhi, but still SR beat's it out just by a bit. Ouran I'm really enjoying, but not as much as Suzumiya Haruhi and School Rumble.

i have to give this episode a mediocre at best rating. maybe i should rewatch, yeah ill do that anyway.

but the plot was pretty thin. most of this episode is setting up for the next one, but thats no excuse to leave out the funny. tenma still could have gone to practice to share the food even if she couldnt get any play time.

Several things were funny about this one:

But more poignant was poor Tenma on a swing (repeatedly).
And then fat Tenma (how sad!)

I'm not a huge Tenma fan but it seemed like the entire episode was
a big set-up for her eventual humiliation.

Oh well.

Agreed--come to think of it, it was the first time I had seen Tenma downbeat. Kinda sad moment, hanging head and all. Normally she's the one you can count on to be cheerful in the show no matter the circumstances. That pink mask is the best
