Pretty much what I expected and I loved the super secret technique used by the outlaws:heh:. Harima better watch out that Tougou is after his Tenma:heh:. Lala was a stitch and a little over the top at times. Next time looks like Harry will finally get some screen time as well yay!

Episode 09 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/05/28/school-rumble-ni-gakki-09/)
The episode started off a little light on the jokes (much more concentrated on Satsuki), but once the game vs. the Outlaws started, it was lots of laughs. Favorite part definitely is the parody of the manga Tenma was reading in last week's episode, something that wasn't in the School Rumble manga. They did cut several scenes out though, especially in the final minutes (I'm thinking of brief Eri and Harima bit and the Sara and Asou parts from the manga).
LMAO once the basketball game started it was friken funny. Didn't really care about the satsuki parts that much. The Tongou scenes were great. Omg I loved the parts with Imadori having his "air jordans" getting taken away from Lala and getting ruined and i couldn't keep a straight face watching him play basketball lol. [/QUOTE]

was surprised about Satsuki...
did she gives up Asou at the end? was surprised about that....or was she just confident that they have no attration to each other?

Sounds like she just gave up to me.
Maybe it's just me, but is anyone else really annoyed when Lala talks? She's just the most annoying anime character, ever, imo. I hate it how she always yells. Yes, I know it's supposed to be funny, but there's just nothing comical about it at all. It's just annoying.
This episode wasn't nearly as bad as the 8th. I laughed quite a bit. 8/10.
I must agree , Lala's way of speaking in this ep was a little bit annoying.
Heh , and I've lost all respect I had for Tenma after she betrayed Outlaws :(
But anyway it was a nice episode =)

I agree that Lala is strange now.
In season 1 she yelled like that, mainly to call Ichijou. Now I think it's really over the top. Especially in this ep.

She's having difficulty blending in, I think. But what she did to Satsuki left me with a better impression of her. And on another note, I think Suou and Asou make a really good couple, much better between her and Hanai.
And Incoan, I had lost respect in Tenma a long time ago. haha. :)
Difficulty blending in? Bah, they're just trying to make her look funny when in actuality, it's just plain stupid.
As ritalman said, she did the yelling in season 1 too, but it wasn't common and only at certain spots (maybe this is because they didn't focus on her much?). She was a great character in season 1, because she was UNIMPORTANT. Now she takes up 30% of the episode. Wtf? No.
We all know Tenma is slightly retarded. I laughed during the scene where Harima started guarding Tenma, but I also wanted to smack him in the face for it.
Apparently I have serious issues when directors/writers/whatever take the show, screw what was working well, and throw crazy crap in instead.

I think there's nothing wrong with the directors/writers/whatever, The way they show it is almost the same as the manga as of now except with Episode 7.
Physics223 might be right. She is having difficult blending in. She is a transfer student after all who doesn't even talk japanese properly. She was easily fooled by Tae-sensei at the beginning. :heh:
SR is great cause it has a big cast of characters and everyone has their moment to shine and develop. Lala wasn't unimportant to begin with. Ichijou and Imadori NEED Lala to shine.
And Lala will go an interesting character development during the series (it was in the manga) just wait and see. There is more about her and Satsuki and others...:heh:
And you will get a shock when she gets her new look.:D
It's not crazy crap just because you don't like her character... now.
It's crazy crap because it almost has nothing to do with the previous story. The fact that I don't like her character is a whole other issue.
It's crazy crap because it almost has nothing to do with the previous story. The fact that I don't like her character is a whole other issue.
So the date of Ichijou and Imadori in the first season was "crazy crap"? It's just that they wanted to show more of the others characters: especially Mikoto and Asou .... I know it would be better to have 99% of the frames with Eri but SR has many other characters who deserve more time to shine.... but don't worry Harima and Eri will be again the focus in the future. :D (of course)

School Rumble without the other characters stories isn't School Rumble at all.
That's why there are b chapters (flat) to show the stories of the other characters so it woudn't throw off the balance in SR.

I thought the funnist moment was right! at the end when we see Hanai playing with the basketball :heh: Hanai is one of the characters that has had some of the best spotlight this season for comedy moments (imo) ( - click on the kenshin sig :heh: ) I really liked the Basketball episodes, cant wait to see what they show next.
Havn't seen it mentioned here but.... from preview of next episode, It said that school rumble wont air till the 11th of june.Harima better watch out that Tougou is after his Tenma :heh: You know for some reason I like that couple :heh: something about Tougou voice and Tenma's extreme laidback look when Tougou talks to her.

Lala is so manly and has a horrible voice, not appealing at all. I wish she would go back to Mexico. I'm disappointed that Eri got lots of screen time culminating in ep 6, but nothing since then. At least she didn't stoop to playing bball, she's far above it
I know it would be better to have 99% of the frames with Eri:D :D :D
For the last few eps School Rumble has actually not been that entertaining for once. There are too many characters floating around that I personally don't care about. I could go for some more Harry MacKenzie though, red shades and all. Things were getting really interesting when Eri started asking about Harima, but that hasn't seen action in a while.

:D :D :D
The basketball arc is widely seen as the weakest arc in the series. It's also the only big story arc that doesn't feature Eri. I suppose that goes to show for something. :heh:
It looks like they cut out the small anti-flag event that should have appeared at the end of this episode. What a relief!
Just be patient about Flag. ;)
I suppose it's a natural tendency to want to see some development for the more established characters, but mainly judging episodes on not seeing your favorite character is unreasonable imo. I thought this episode was pretty funny, including Lala's yelling, although it was done a bit too often.

She's so big and brutish though, not only physique but voice as well. Not kawaii at all. It takes a hell of a brute to ruin a pair of guys shoes in one session. Someone should poll on least fav character, I suspect Lala would win. Dunno who would get 2nd though, probably the new short girl is my personal first instinct

Lala's an interesting one, because she certainly wasn't that brash and annoying in the first series. I actually thought she was quite a respectable (and, at times funny) character... especially in the second OVA. Here, her seiyuu is just trying to hard and failing miserably.
On this episode, the jokes were funny (thankfully), and I'd willingly argue this has been the funniest episode for a while, but the whole basketball subplot was just stupid. I mean, I just couldn't bring myself to care about the game, or the whole Satsuki-Asou-Mikoto love triangle. Satsuki was particularly hard to care about, since she seems like just another once-and-done character (which is odd, because SR hasn't had once-and-done characters before). But there's something about Asou and Mikoto as a couple that I just don't find believable. It's probably because there was no foreshadowing for it in the first series, and it almost feels like they've just spontaneously decided to make it happen in the last couple of episodes (yes, I realize SR is based on a manga, etc, etc, but it doesn't change my point that this seems as if it's come about veeery suddenly). I continue to watch, intrigued, but not because of Mikoto and Asou. Admittedly they're likable characters, but they're not the reason why I watch this show.

I just noticed this, but Suou Mikoto's seiyuu was the voice of Arcueid Brunestud! (Hitomi Nabatame) OMFGWTFBBQZORZ! So that's the something I couldn't place on Mikoto, but I really, really, really like her ... her voice is Arcueid's! *dies*
Among the primary girls of Sukuran, I like Mikoto the most (Yakumo isn't primary).
Last two episodes have been pretty weak. All the Lala yelling is really unnecessary; look back to when she is having lunch with Ichijou in season one, and you can see that she doesn't need to yell in every sentence. For some reason, Tae without Harima just doesn't seem like Tae, and frankly, I have to agree with most people that the choice of characters that these two episodes focus on isn't very good. It isn't that I dislike them, but the chemistry just isn't there. Satsuki and Lala just don't have the same punch as either of Ichijou and Lala (nonexistant in this episode) or Imadori and Lala (one of the few better moments of this episode). Likewise, Tougou and Harima (except whenever Tougou is calling Harima "partner") doesn't have the same spark as Harima with virtually any of the other characters.
Part of the problem with the Asou - Suou couple is that they, as a couple and as people, are just too normal relative to pretty much any of the possible school rumble couples (except maybe Sarah and Asou). You aren't going to get big laughs by playing off the two of them getting together.

Actually, review first season a little more carefully. You'll see the early workings of the pairing in S1's sports festival, during kibasen. They aren't together, yet, for that matter.
Part of the problem with the Asou - Suou couple is that they, as a couple and as people, are just too normal relative to pretty much any of the possible school rumble couples (except maybe Sarah and Asou). You aren't going to get big laughs by playing off the two of them getting together.
...But then you have Onigiri, which is in exactly the same situation in terms of comedy and faces that exact problem. To the Basketball Faction's credit, however, Suou and Asou never really were exceptionally funny characters, to begin with, so you don't lose anything by them being a fairly ordinary couple. That factor isn't there to redeem Ongiri, but you never see anyone have any problems with that. :heh:
The main issue with Asou x Mikoto is that neither character really recieves much focus in the story. If there was more of a reason to care about them, then perhaps it would be a different story. :p

This basketball arc in the past two episodes I had a couple of grins, as expected, but I would rank them as subpar/mediocre School Rumble. Lala is adhering a bit too strongly to the defining outlines of her personality. It only serves to reinforce her as a cardboard cutout character as it makes her appear too flat and two dimensional. And the relationship showcased in this arc did not really interest me. Frankly, like everyone else in the Flag Faction, I'm just patiently waiting for the spotlight to focus on Harima and Eri, and their no doubt entertaining interplay and interactions. I think that's where this season of SR will truly shine.

It was great! I really laugh when Harima was guarding Tenma, he was murmuring "Defense,Ohhh,defense...ahhh." with hearts on his head!
TEAM OUTLAWS ARE THE BEST!! Gotta love those basketball jersey's,
makes me want to get one for myself ^_^
Togo,Harima,Imadori,Tenma and Yakumo where nearly unbeatable, but when Satsuki entered she was the star player. Her ability to shoot 3 points is incredible!

voted 7/10 - funny episode, but nothing too amazing.
btw, it is just me or is asou not animated as nice? O_O
lala doesn't bother me either. in fact, i kind of like her
even though i think she yells a bit... too much, haha.
but besides that, i like her for having that sort-of double personality -
regulary brash and demanding, it was nice to see lala show more of her caring side ^_^
i don't know, but i didn't enjoy the basketball episodes that much...
for me, i kind of miss the harima -> tenma -> karasuma thing that they emphasized in season one.
it seems that they're concentrating a lot of the stories on side characters?
but it's okay i guess, more suou x asou was nice ^_^v

I completely agree. In every school rumble episode, i just hope for some harima/tenma/karasuma development... but with season 2, it's been going really slow with all these episodes about the side characters... it makes me sad...

Uh from the first episode of SR second term, it was sort of implied that Tsukamoto's parents are either dead, gone, or not there as "[them] sisters only have each other". So it's not that they're not shown, but rather they're not there.
Harima's parents aren't shown obviously due to running away from home. Unless you see some Shuuji scene at home, then there won't be a time to see the parents for any reason.
And we all know Sawachika's case of her father being overly busy with the work.
And then most other characters you don't even see their home, making it even less relevant to show the parents, if any.
I mean gee, you have Sagano who lives alone. It's like some the characters don't even have parents around at the start of the series whatsoever. So actually, it's not that much of a mystery.
What I couldn't understand is how the Outlaws could give a 70 - 17 run. We know that like 7 three pointers were scored in a row by Satsuki, as her game was so hot that she probably was perfect from the field and generating extremely good statistics, though I never understood how the Outlaws couldn't score much in comparison. I can understand the girl's hyped offense, but not that high of a margin. Thus, I would have thought giving up a 30 point lead would seem more reasonable than giving up a seventy point lead after that kind of duration of the game. I was glad the Outlaws still won by one point. I would have hated it if the girls came back from that much of a disadvantage since Tenma was already treated poorly by the team (er don't they have a bench? They did have six girls on the team)
Anyhow half of the girl's basketball team was also half of the band. Hahaha.
Yay Tsukamoto can dunk ^^
Although the basketball so far seemed like a Satsuki story, what I find odd is how little Sagano is actually mentioned. You see her under multiple occasions, but there are no events that revolve around her. It's like she's there, and that's about it.

I think she's that long hair girl in the team, which last episode was said to be good at basketball/sports. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. No longer have the episode with me.

Yeah she's the one that looks like Tenma only cooler lol. She lives only with her grandma.
And about LaLa she isn't a crappy character is just her voice actress trying too hard no need for her to yell in every sentence... She needs to tone it down a bit lol.

anyway, i feel sorry for LaLa for having to raise the last syllable all the time, (eg ichiJOU!!!) but then we get to see her nice side on this ep
overall, it's a nice ep, we get to see the other side characters' character.
