Just as there are 8 DVDs, there will be 8 soundtrack CDs when all is said and done (the 7th was just released the other day). The soundtrack CDs also contain ~25-minute radio show segments (the last 4 to 6 tracks of each disc), so that probably explains the identical track listings you saw.

Haven't posted here for a while, just some stuff I'd like to say before I sleep.

Ryoko's character songs are brilliant, beautiful and outstanding.

Who could have thought that Hare Hare Yukai could sound so negative, malicious and evil.

Koyubi de Gyutsu!, postive, beautiful but when you remember its Ryoko who's singing, you start thinking whether its sarcasm, great acting or does she actually feel that way?

Cool Edition, the song portrays the other side of Ryoko perfectly. Its my favourite character song now, beating Toki no Puzzle and Yuki, Muon Madobe nite. Its the type of song that increases your pulse, causes vasodilation, perks your senses and you find yourself still shivering from excitement after Ryoko says 'jaa ne'.
Wow, i feel pretty much the same way about Ryoko's CD. I think i still like Haruhi's Parallel Days the best, but Ryoko's CD is outstanding.

Koyubi de Gyuu! is yeah, a cute positive song. I think the way it looks is that the cd starts off with the cute positive image that Ryoko is given at the beginning of the series. She's the "pretty girl" with a positive attitude and the "idol" singing about things like how she wants both you and me to hold each other and how she can hear everyone saying "good morning" and all that cute sunshiney stuff.
Then we get to the middle of the CD with COOL EDITION which starts to get into the REAL Ryoko as opposed to the image she was giving (which was what the first song i imagine is) talking about how things like her meaning isnt her own, and how she wants to go out with a last waltz. Lyrics aside, the song isn't dark, but it takes a more serious tone to it than koyubi. (btw for the lyrics, its mokuteki, not mokudeki. Mokuteki = purpose)

And then Ryokos version of Hare Hare Yukai is fantastic too. First off, i think its sung really well, but the slight changes in lyrics makes a huge difference to the tone of the song. Its still the same upbeat melody but with a completely different meaning. Its awesome.

I havent bought Tsuraya's yet (waiting till i see it for cheap)

What does endo teroppu mean? The only thing I can make out is 'end telop', am I correct?

Definition for telop: (orig) television opaque projector (telop), used for subtitles and captions, now used for the subtitles and captions themselves

Which means, 'endo teroppu ni namae sae noranai' = (my) Name does not even appear in the ending subtitles(credits?).

It makes sense to me but still I'm not sure lol

Ryouko's Hare Hare Yukai is just hilarious, for being so cleverly rewritten. Its a dark, sunny song.

Your guess is as good as mine for the endo teroppu. What you said makes sense and since the line before is the "jibun no imi wa jibun jyanakutemo All Right", it makes sense for the verse with how she's getting screwed over.

Yeah, C.A. -- your guess is correct. Telops are like overlays (text, logos, etc. on top of video), and the end telop would be the ending credits in this case. If you have a "non-telop ED" that means it has no credits (you see that on anime DVDs quite often of course). So I guess her character name doesn't appear in the credits. :heh:

Personally, i dont have a problem with losing Hare. I dont really care for Imoutou singing it, nor for Emiri singing it. Its pretty much at the point where because they added different lyrics for Ryoko (and Tsuraya as people said, though i havent heard her version yet) where it was cool to listen to, but the song itself is starting to get old just because its being done so much.

Two new songs is for the best imo. Plus im having a hard time keeping track of all the Hare's on my ipod. :D

Well if you look it up on Wiki, they have about 4 songs per CD.

Keep in mind that two of those four are prolly "off vocal" versions.

Since the other ones had 5, with hare not having an off vocal (since that ones on the Hare Hare Yukai ED single) then maybe that means that we're getting 2 original songs and 2 off vocals of those songs...hopefully. ^_^

Some people have already mastered the complete dance (full version, not TV size) using the choreography that has been available on Kyoani's website since September, it might be a good idea to take a look at that if you're really interested in learning the dance.

Im personally a fan of Haruhi's. Asakura's is a must buy as well, but i think Aya Hirano does a REALLY good job and shouldnt be overlooked.
Yeah, Parallel Days is easily my favorite song of any Haruhi song.

Interesting. I haven't read that far yet, as I generally avoid reading ahead. I gave up on ever seeing the rest of 'Where did the Cat Go?', though :heh:
Personally, I trust very little that Itsuki says, and while he'd probably have no reason to lie about this matter, I'd hold out for confirmation from Nagato ;)

Those songs somehow manage to find a way to have Haruhi sing them. Probably because she wished for a way to express her certain feelings and thoughts that she couldn't really say out loud under normal circumstances. The songs then came to her and acted as a medium for her to sing out her thoughts.

The drama cd was really fun to listen to. I couldn’t stop laughing at one point! Aya Hirano did a brilliant job on voicing all the SOS-dan members (Kyon, Itsuki, Yuki, Mikuru) on one of the tracks.
that was hilarious! yuki explains that stuff and then "by the way, im nagato yuki". then koizumi explains as well then "btw, im koizumi" then kyon: "i can tell by the way you guys talk!" LOL! i like when koizumi was pretending to be haruhi:D

Haruhi Theater was a story written by Tanigawa Nagaru and serialized in The Sneaker in August 2004, but was never compiled into an actual novel. Should be considered canon still. I love it for it's crazyness (like The Adventure of Asahina Mikuru Episode 00), and hope that's the first episode for season 2. ^_^

I must say that I've got the Chara CD 1 to 5 and Yuki is by far my favorite; it could be a real J-POP single and sell pretty well, methinks. My next favs are Tsuruya and Mikuru. "Mitsukete Happy Life" is probably the cutest song I've heard that's not a children's song, and even my gf love her little sigh at the end. The songs match the characters really, really well. I still play them in my ipod daily. But Saigo Pare Parade is still tops.

It really looks like most of the song writing talents in Japan are involved in the anime music industry... There's just so much freedom involved to do great work; I mean "Mitsukete Happy Life" has a Jazzy/New Orleans flavor to it, and the festive feeling is a perfect match to Mikuru's personality. You just can't find gems like this in mainstream pop music in ANY country.

You know, when I first heard "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" in the movie episode, I actually felt kind of indifferent about it. Yeah, it's an attempt at bad singing. It works for the scene, but I didn't know the background, and knew nothing about the singer.

After finishing the series and listening to the song several more times, I have to say that it's now one of my top-played songs on my playlist. It's just the mental image of Mikuru, completely embarrassed about the whole thing but still trying so earnestly, that makes it both utterly hilarious and wonderfully sympathetic. When she tries (and fails) to hit that high note, I want to simultaneously do a Tsuruya-laugh, as well as reassure Mikuru that I can't hit the high notes either, so it's all perfectly all right.

It's one song where I wouldn't be afraid to sing karaoke to, since, well, the entire point is that I can be tone-deaf and completely butcher the song and it doesn't matter, as long as I have fun.

"Kentai Life Returns!" has got to be the best vocal song I've heard in the character albums. Sugita's performance was amusing as it is, and I loved it even more once I found translated lyrics for it. I think the final line, "Guess I'll just give up!" is the definitive moment of this song, especially how Kyon sings that lyric with such false enthusiasm. I enjoyed Itsuki's character song as well, though was annoyed by the ramblings by Yuki and Mikuru.

I also like how the latter character song albums feature rearrangements of "Hare Hare Yukai." It makes up for those characters not having a second song like Haruhi, Yuki, Nagato, Tsuruya, and Ryoko, and I didn't want to hear the same song with a different voice again.

I haven't checked specifically yet, but I'm sure the songs you're looking for are on one those soundtrack CDs. Most likely with the CDs that came with Japanese DVDs 3 & 7 (since those are the DVDs that have those episodes on it).

Actually, I think you got the whole soundtrack portion correct. As for the radio part, it's never "ichinin," but "hitori." I know the character 有 is usually with two u's but I think in this case, there's only one "u" so it's "Yuki." Also, Track 12 should be Tsuruya-san no Megassa Otsukare! Soudan Corner.

If you hold it properly, you can play forever without getting cramps. It takes very little physical strength to play the violin compared to other stringed instruments. Guitar, on the other hand, can and will give you cramps if your muscles aren't accustomed to it; especially barre chords.


Edit: I found it funny that he played the notes slightly off in Koi no Mikuru Densetsu to match the singing :heh:

Let's recap...

Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru's versions are all clones of each other, lyrically and instrumentally.

Tsuruya and Asakura's versions have the same instrumentation, but different lyrics fitting their personalities.

Imouto-chan has the first instrumental change, but keeps the normal tempo. Her lyrics have the phrase Kyon-kun waay too many times... :uhoh:

Emiri, Itsuki, and Kyon's versions are all slowed down to about the same pace, and each have a unique instrumentation. Their lyrics fit their personalities and thinking habits (I can't take Kyon's seriously without laughing my head off). :D

Strangely enough, I still listen to the original version the most, with Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru singing, but that's just me practicing the ED dance. :heh:

I was just listening to the snare drum march that plays behind Haruhi's batting practice (Ep. 4, where Yuki is "fielding" minimally and Mikuru is cowering). And in my mind, I started filling in the melody from Patton. So I looked up a quick Patton MIDI, and it's *really* close - likely an intentional reference.

Go to this site and listen to the MIDI at the first link - only pay attention to the drum line. Then listen to teh second link, at the woodwind melody in the middle. Imagine that melody joining the drums and you have the baseball scene's drums. If you're not familiar with Patton, listen to the speech in the third link to see why it's an appropriate reference

Hi sorry for bringing this thread up again, i found it through google. I have just started exploring animé as i have a new friend who is in to it, and really like this show so far. I was watching Episode 3 (well, part 3 - episode 4 in japan i believe. i don't quite get how it works yet lol) and when kyon is noticing how fast Haruhi runs and listing her peculiarities a really cool ska song plays, which also seemed to turn up somewhere in part/episode 4 too. I just came back from the concert - wow. I estimated 300 performers on stage (not to mention the brass section that the score calls for having offstage.)

There was a lecture beforehand by a Mahler scholar, who gave some background to the music that people here might find interesting. He said that the music is about the life-will (will to live, and for life to exist) and how the life-will achieves its goal through Love - the meeting of the Eternal Masculine and the Eternal Feminine which creates the Spirit of Creation.

When you hear it described like that, you have to wonder how this music could avoid appearing here!

There will be a new Haruhi Concert on April 29, 2009, "Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou".

It seems to be a classical concert with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Philip Chu, and with Seiji Honda (piano) and Hiroaki Yura (violin).

Aya Hirano and Chihara Minori are listed as guests.

I just got the CDs, Haruhi-chan single, Nyoron character song and Haruhi wii game songs.

Those who got their Nyoron CDs, open up and look at the CD.

Notice what is on the bottom right of the CD, then what's in the middle of the CD holder. Then remove the CD and see what's below on the bottom of the CD cover. You should say Nyoron~ after that.

The Haruhi songs are just genius, besides all the homages, puns, censorship and stuff. Haruhi sings excitedly, Mikuru joins in, Yuki reads the lyrics as it goes along, Kyon tries to disturb the song, Itsuki tries to flirt etc. etc.

And everything is in a tight bundle of controlled chaos, it takes a songwriter with a mind as powerful as Haruhi to come up with. Amazing stuff.

From what I can tell it's not on any of the OSTs

The other piece I'm looking for is the orchestral piece played during the game of "The Day of Sagittarius III" they have.

It sounds a bit like a tango to me. But I dunno, I can't differentiate between dances.

As I said on RC upon noticing this one, you can tell they’ve designed this one in a way that it is familiar to fans of eroge with it’s still imagery and colourful style (Kyoani has been doing the names under the character opening for a while now, which I guess will be their post Yamamoto groove from here on out), but has just enough gimmicky movements that mimic dance (footaps, shoulder shrugs etc.) that niconico can still make parody vids out of it. In short it’s basically the K-On opening with even going on animation wise, but enough colour to draw the eyes attention. Not bad, not great, kind of clever, but a bit of the same if you watch this and then note the similarity in style compared to K-On by watching that ones.
