Now Fate/stay night is coming to it's end (at least for the anime), it's time we had a second Favourite Character Poll. Please note that to keep the size of the poll down to manageable numbers, not all the characters are included. All the primary characters and most of the secondary characters are included, if there's someone who isn't included then you can post and discuss the reasons why they are a personal favourite of yours.
This is a multiple choice poll and while we won’t restrict you from voting for every character, please try to limit your choice to your top 3 or 4 picks if you can. If you like the entire cast equally, then so be it, but if you can narrow it down a bit, then that’s even better. If you like one character the most, then don’t feel the need to vote for anymore.
Please remember that once you make your vote you may not "come back" later to add or change your previous vote(s). So make sure you know all the characters you want to include in your vote before you click the "Vote Now" button.
And of course the vote is public, so your votes will be visible. :)

Saber, Rider, Gilgamesh and Archer for me!
Saber because, well, aside from her looks, she's one of the most overpowered Servants out there. Powerful offensive + defensive Hougu, who can stand up to that?
Rider, because of her bonds to Sakura (in the game). In the anime, her airtime, though brief, was pretty much ok.
Gilgamesh because his cockiness is just too hard to dislike. Also, he's the reason why Shirou and Saber pushes themselves to the limit.
Archer, because, aside form cockiness, his determination and jaded outlook on life somehow echoes mine.
Ok, first of all my favorite, Illya, for sheer cuteness and Onii-chan factor :D Hooray :D
Archer, coolest character of the bunch.
Sakura... Well, I like her character type. And she's cute.
And Rin, coolest female character of the bunch (and she fits really well with Archer) She's hot, too :D

In no real order:
Rin Tohsaka - Interesting personality, hawt. What more could you ask for?
Gilgamesh - He's gold, Gate of Babylon is an awesome phantasm, and his cocky-as-hell personality makes him fun rather than annoying to watch. Somehow. He has cool music too :D
Archer - Is awesome. Again, I like his attitude, his phantasm is awesome, and Episode 14 is still my favourite.
Saber - She's got looks, she's sweet in her naive way of thinking and has given many a funny moment throughout the series. Oh, and Excalibur and Avalon rule too.

Shirou because he's the man, Saber for the same reasons as Yuna in FFX...a real sweetheart that deserves better than what she thinks she's fated to get. Rin because she comes through when you need her there, and just all around rocks. And Rider because she deserved better in the anime...like being Sakura's servant instead and joining the harem as a soft, quiet, sweetheart (I am thinking that Rider's true personality mirrors Sakura's.)

My votes went to:
Caster: My favourite character, because I'm a sucker for tragic/romantic types like her. ^^; And I also like cunning, cold blooded bad guys (or girls), so Caster wins on all counts. She's ruthless in pursit of her goal (summoning the Holy Grail), but despite that, all she really wanted was to be loved and accepted. I'm more than happy to do so, I mean, how could I not? ;) Caster's possibly my favourite character out of all the series I'm watching at the moment, with only Yuki able to challenge her.
Souichirou: Because he took care of my beloved Caster. :x That would probably be enough to get a vote from me, but I actually like him anyway. He looks cool (IMO), he acts cool, and he can hold his own against a servant. It's his final moment that secures my vote though, when it shows that he had been hit by Gil's attack, but he didn't tell Caster because he wanted her to be happy. It was touching, especially coming from a character normally so cold and emotionless.
Sakura: She's cute.

Again, she's the type of character I like, and there's not much more reason than that. Timid characters like her make me go "Awwwwww~", as they're intended to.
Gilgamesh: I love arrogant characters maybe because I can relate to them >_> and you can't get much more arrogant than Gil. Having been spoiled, I was looking forward to his appearance, but I didn't realise he'd turn up and instantly claim that Saber belonged to him. That was a great moment. He's fun to watch, and overall, he's just... kind of... awesome. In fact, that I can forgive him for killing Caster and vote for him should be a testament to just how awesome he is. :p

My favorites are:
Saber: this the first time that the main character is my favorite. She's very cool especially when she's fighting.
Rider: aside for her sexy appearance, she fights really good. And, I like her Noble Phantasm.
Caster: very mysterious and i like her blue hair :heh:
Gilgamesh: like Amaranthine said, he's too arrogant and too proud of himself which makes him one of my favorite too. And, his Gate of Babylon is cool, unleashing many weapons at will.
Archer: I like his materialization tricks. He wears red, and uses different blades.
Assassin: I like katana swords :) Maybe that's why he became my favorite. Oh! and he's always calm in battle.

Rin: sexiest female in the show bar none (I can feel the throngs of irate Rider fans screaming for my blood as I type this...). Besides, she's the character with most personality by far: intelligent, cool (being able to zorch Berserker once), shy, heartbroken (she often loses people dear to her without being able to show them her feelings), sarcastic, strict, teasing, volatile...
Yet she has many charming quirks: she pretends to be an ice sorceress queen and fails miserably. She always messes up in the worst moments. She always comes up with explanations that are rarely true. She's horribly lazy in the morning. She never shuts up. And she's the one who starts the threesomes :heh:
Archer: he's the Servant with the most original story, he's arrogant, he's sarcastic, he's a disobedient Servant (as contradictory as that is). He has the coolest special attack. And his character design oozes coolness, too.
Lancer: First, I like his legend a lot. He's a tragic, doomed character both in his life and his afterlife, like Caster. He has a tenacious and loyal personality, like Saber. But he seems more human than those two. And he manages to look kinda cool even wearing that fugly clothing. And he has the honor of being the first among the many Servants that have smited Shirou. Plus, he's voiced by Tasuki. LEKKA SHIEN!
Mi fourth choice would be Gilgamesh, but he doesn't have too much "normal" interaction with other characters so it's difficult to judge him.

I voted for Archer, Shirou, and Lancer. Archer and Shirou just have the most badass powers... They can image sicksauce weapons. Lancer for the shallow reason that he is Irish :P.

I voted for Saber, Rin and Archer.
Saber- She is cute, naive, but she has a great heart. She is definitely a heroine, although Shirou is trying to change that. :p
Rin- She is cool and collected on the outside, but she is a very nice person on the inside. She is also very pretty. I can say more, but I think that's enough for now. :D
Archer- His lines when he used UBW were so cool, just those alone earn him a spot.

Rin - Oh yeah, her 'dere dere' side in the anime annoyed me to no end, since it was what put a stop to what I wanted the most: a deathmatch between her and Shirou ala Basilisk (although it didn't technically happen even there).
Still, I love her 'tsun tsun' side. Kick-ass, much?
Sakura - You know what they say, it's the shy and quiet ones are the wildest ones in bed. ;)
Archer - for being the only character in the first half of the show who actually thought things realistically. Between Emiya's idealistic rants and Rin's wishy washy attittude, Archer was the only reason why the first half was bearable.
Emiya - Sure, in the anime he likes Saber, but I'm not going to hold it against him. I voted for him because he isn't spitting anymore of that 'hero of justice' crap, all of which drove me this close >-< to quitting the show.
And hey, one can always hope he'll see the light *cough*Rin*cough* or that the opposition dies or goes away ala Tsukihime. ;) (No offense meant Saber fans :P)
EDIT: Wonder how long Rin's lead over Saber would hold out? Back then I wasn't surprised Rin had the lead for a couple of weeks, since Rin was introduced earlier than Saber. But now, with the Saber having more screen time and looks like its going to go the Saber END, I'm surprised Rin has the lead, however insubstantial it might be (as of this writing, 2 votes ^^;.
Oki.., the anime is not over yet and we can still see a Major change in the role of some characters.., for some it may be positive, for others negative..;
Either way I am 100% decided that no matter what happens or does happen, these 3 will always be my favorite from the Fate-Stay universe Type-Moon presented to us.
I could have chosen more then 3 characters, for Fate-Stay realy is filled with very distinct, unique and special characters, which I indeed in many all equaly adore.
Allas.., I belive polls as these are realy to emphasise our top choices, even if one loves most of the characters in many aspects, there are always prioritys of some over others.
Hence.., my top 3 choice is as follows :
1º - Ilya !
Lets face it.., Ilya has been one of the most pleasent to watch characters that have been in Anime in general recently; from the first moment she appears her presence and personality realy captivate you.
I also belive her development has been very well acomplished through the story.., since we have seen so far most of her important roles beeing portraied with little to no flaws.
And much like my dear npal wrotte previously :

Are all aspects which realy capture her essence..; thus much based on all of these facts and which we have come to see develop through the story, its realy impossible not to like her.
Very much made in the "Loli" mold, I belive Ilya has become a new reference for that title, a refence in which.., that due to all her aspects from personality to even character design, leaves mostely all the others seem as they lack something when compared to her.
A very unique character indeed, sheer cuteness, evilness, loliness ^^ and definitly the one I most enjoyed seeing in Fate-Stay.
2º - Archer !
This is yet another personaly whom I belive instantly caught everyone's heart at first sight.
Having a tremendous impact in the story and beeing designated as one of the most "cool guys" that have been in any Anime recently are facts that realy makes us instantly like him.
Despite having an somewhat sarcastic and arrogant personality, once one compreehends his entire story, it is only natural that we then even love him more for such a personality.
Archer's story is unique to say the least, in many of the anime I saw I had not seen such a captivating story yet.
Adding all of this to the fact that as a character his design is flawless aswell, and as far as powers go.., his ability to trace makes him diferent then any hero portrayed in the Fate-Stay universe; not to mencione of course.. the UBW is by far the perfect battle ground ever created.., it was truly an amazing thing to watch in the Anime, and its something I still hope to see again :)
Beeing such a complexed character and having that aura arround him, it was inevitable that he would be in my top 3, there wasn't a scene in the anime where he was in which I didn't enjoy.
And I belive most feel the same way aswell.
3º - Shirou !
Shirou is the kind of character which grows on you I belive; or at least its what happened to me.
Altough I belive that many will rather choose other characters prior to him.., I hold a great deal of respect for Shirou, as my reasons for choosing him are all emphasised in this.
Shirou has overcome a great tagedy in his childhood.., and this built up his ideals to uphold justice and help those in need.
Shirou's ideals are in part selfish, for they are something he wants aswell for himself; never the less they are beyond pure, the ideal to save everyone without exception is not even refered in most God's..
His development in the story was pleasent to watch aswell, despite it has not come to a conclusion yet.., it already gaved us aspects which clearly have started to change his personality.. and even to the fact that he has started to acknolodge that he may not be able to up-hold his so desire ideals.
His relationship with Saber was mostely the cause for this last part I mencioned, but all and all he has always been there for her, even if against her will, he has always thought of her first.
In terms of character what I most enjoyed about Shirou is definitly his skills, and how we came to see them develop through the story; in the end Shirou was always able to summon each last bit of strenght inside him to pull off something that has stunned me, and I belive everyone else aswell.
Plus.. I hope the best part in this is still yet to come :)
Given all of this, I could have not left Shirou out aswell.
And thus ends my top 3.., I feel sorry for not placing more characters like Gil which is a amazing antagonist; complealty arrogant, self-centered, but amazing to watch and I just simply love him aswell; characters like Kiritsugu Emiya who has a very tragic story which in the end lead the foundations for most of the events that happened in this grail war..
And well.. I could just go on and on..; but I also up-hold my ideals so.., I could not let myself pick more then 3 characters.
Fate-Stay despite its ups and downs has given us some of the most unique cast of characters which we have ever seen, and clearly it has not dissapointed me in this aspect.
Uff.. this was a long post ^^

More like your avatars. It's much easier to notice people by their avatars than their signatures for me. But there're also a lot of people who uses Illya avatar/signatures around as well--you two are stand out much more than the rest to me.

Emiya Shirou - sympathetic character in the beginning, always doing stuffx and running errands for people. He only cared for others and not himself. I find that his character development, with the help of saber, showed how much change he can undergo, doing more things for himself and to realize who he. And he is a cool character because no matter how many times he gets sliced / chopped / injured or anything he can always heal... ^^
Saber - Naive, no experience with love, innocent, difficult, caring, cute, strongest servant. there is so many words i can describe saber.
Tohsaka Rin - damn this is the hotest girl in the series!!! i love her so much, she acts so aggressive yet she is so emotional, nice, caring inside of her yet she decides to hide that side of her...... but from the begining i disliked her character, but as the story goes on, i start getting interested in her character and her past. and on top of that, i just can't stop saying how much she's so hot. lol..... repeatative but true....... hot hot hot hot hot hot.... lol :D

Matou Sakura - the hotest girl's sister, i wanted to know more about her character but too bad the anime is too short, i would love to knw more about her. sigh* but she's so innocent and has an innocent past.......... well i would love to see some incest shit ^^
Lancer - don't ask me but i forgot the reason why i voted for him, baka me..
Gilgamesh - not must known about this character but he looks insanly strong and extremely evil...... that's what i like about him..... and also his hero's history and legend, sounds uber interesting ^^ and his gold armor.....

Lol, all the characters I like are on the loser side of the poll.
I'm infatuated with Rider as many of you already know, and Gilgamesh and Assassin are the type of characters that I like (with polar opposite personalities :D).
Those who can back up there words with action are characters that I always love (and often times those that are scantily clad XD) :P
Now, this is where the hard part starts.
I'm a person who likes each & every character in the F/SN world, choosing four is a good idea.. but for me, choosing four out of all them makes it so hard..
I'm gonna have to think about this.
Well, here's my ranking:
Saber
The character that roused me the most throughout the series, whether it is the game or the anime. She's in a cruel dilemma, having to choose between the love she finally finds in and from Shirou and her duty, which is why she fought so hard and so long.
Archer
Hmmm, what to say? He's Emiya Shirou from the future, he's damn skilled, he controls a Reality Marble and he's full of regrets. I love this kind of character, very powerful and also full of regrets. Too bad some parts of UBW were not developed in the anime but there are some screentime imperatives.
Gilgamesh
I love his arrogance. I love his allmightyness. I love his style. I love his story and his Epic. I love the way he talks. He's the man who's not bad but just wishes to do what he wants to do. And he gets a special credit for Ea and Gates of Babylon.

The thing is, each characters in the story is very human so it is difficult tp pigeonhole any of them with usual tags.
Archer -->Simply the best character so far. I like everything about him. Powerful, smart, badass, UBW. He freaking owns.
Rider -->Simply hot.
Assassin -->I kind of liked his attitude. And I really loved his fights.
If I would have remembered how casters master was called he would have been rated on place two.
But to be honest, the characters in FSN are really well made. I like how their interactions turn out.
So, to tell it in another way, if I would be asked "who do you hate, or do not like at all in FSN?" I wouldn't be sure how to answer. There are certain traits or moments I do not like. Or special actions that seem just dumb to me, but overall the characters are all kind of well made.

OMG! I forgot Shinji! See, that guy is such a looser I already deleted him from my memory...
So of course there I a character I detest. It is Shinji! (Again... why do all the Shinjis turn out to be complete loosers...)

I'd go for Rider-sama! Her fighting stances are soooooo....:p If there's gonna be an anime of F/HA w/ a lot of Rider-sama, that'd be my wish granted.
It really is hard for me to choose just four characters (even though we all know i'd vote Saber ^^;) from the list, so i might as well say my lil' bit on each character from the list - and just vote four characters who have stood out in the anime for me.
Emiya Kiritsugu - Theres a hell of a lot to this man that people shall never know, still its good it stays that way - he's the man Shirou looks upto, and in the way.. i do as well.
Emiya Shirou - The hero of the story. Even if you didn't know that he was to become Archer in the future, you could still see where all his fire comes from - he fights for other people, he won't back down from anything. He's the perfect main character imo. ^^
Saber - Saber's got it all - the past/back story, the skills, the love.. everything - i love Saber. ^_^
Tohsaka Rin - Its a shame we didn't get to see more of Archer & Rin scenes, imo they're some of the best that an be shown in the anime - still she's one of the main characters who has to keep on fighting - you just can't beat her laugh. ^^
Archer - Heh, i really don't have to say anything about Archer - just his backstory shows how amazingly cool he is, but he also has the attitude and skills to be even more of a legend.
Ilyasviel "Ilya" von Einzbern - I have to admit i enjoy Illya a lot more when she's out to kill.. she has a past that isn't shown in the anime.. shame it wasen't shown.
Berserker - Mainly the way that he'll do anything for Illya's the reason Berserker's has my respect.
Matou Sakura - Its a shame she was just a back character for the anime, 'cause Sakura has a give for the anime - at least she got her moment with Rin.. and to cook fo Shirou of course. ^^
Matou Shinji - The guy everyone hates.. but in my eyes a great character to the story. He might not have been the best of Masters, but he did give Shirou a run for his money, and was able to be a good master for Rider.
Rider - She has the beauty & the skill to be one deadly warrior, and we all got to see it in action. She may not of had the right Master, but she at least gave respect to Shinji, and thought with everthing she had - truly an amazing servant.
Kuzuki Souichirou - All he wanted to do was help Caster, and thats what he done - all the way to the end. Also... you can't forget that the man does kick arse. ^^;
Caster - Her love for Souichirou is just seriously way to adourable not to love. Indeed she was evil, and yes her plan didn't go the way she wanted - but at least at the end of it all, she was able to die being with the man she loved.
Assassin - Assassin, probably my fav' warrior in F/SN. For reasons that good i don't even have to mention them - i'm sure people know what i'm on about.
Kotomine Kirei - The man with the master plan, and a dark past - he even has the skills to stay behind the shadows for that long.
Lancer - Lancer's attitude towards the people around him, even though all he wants is a good fight shows that he's a legandary warrior, and he has the skill to show off. ^^;
Gilgamesh - Finally being able to hear his laugh in the anime, that just wins it - and of course his style wins.. there's just not a character like him in F/SN.
Fuji Nee (Fujimura Taiga) - There's not a soul alive that can't say they love Fuji. She's the teacher we all wish we had.
Rin. Shirou. Archer.

In no particular order what so ever these are my favourite charecters
1:Saber, her fighting spirit is enjoyable to watch and its funny to see how ironic her realtionship with shirou comes, at first she doesnt give a monkeys about shirou seeing her body and shirou has a fit now its the other way around >.< she makes me laugh abit and its cool watching her fight! :( and shes one of the smexeh people :heh:
2.Archer; what can i say about archer, wow he is defiently one of the most irrogant people i have seen on side with gil, although still loyal he fights well and has probably the most emotional ending i have seen in any programe, Although why did he speak in engrish for the UBW sequence " i am the bone of my sword" etc anyway he looks cool he brings enjoyment to watch expessily during the beginning i was board out of my wits then but he kept me going. in a nutshell
looks cool, looks like dante from DMC , the weridest archer fighting i have seen >.<
3.Rider i picked her cos hes hot but she isnt with her mask on stupid medusa eyes but that scene where the mask is broken that was nice
4.Rin Smexeh what else to say , loyal , idot, lazy in the morining

Kuzuki. He definitly the coolest person. Defeats Rin, Saber, and Shouro with nothing but his fists(Which are enchanted by Caster to harden) But it was kool that he proved everything everyone else said was wrong about masters fighting and turned out to be a godlike fighter. And he was definitly the nicest master out of them all. He did everything he could to help Caster and never looked back. Was just happy to be by her.
Rider was 4th.. behind the big 3 .. so I guess its a win for the riding rider club :/

Well.., it seems pretty balanced overall so far.., Archer is leading with 10 more points then Rin which comes in second; altough only 2 points ahead of Saber.
I was expecting Archer and Saber to be on the lead, though I must say that so many people voting for Rin has surprised me.
All and all then we have in 4th your beloved Rider :p..., only 1 point ahead of Gil, and only 4 points! ahead of Ilya :)
Shirou and Sakura where then tied at 18 points each, but it seems Sakura got one extra point today.
Thus concludes the most voted characters So Far..
From what I can conclude regarding the posts I read here on A.Suki boards.., I belive the Poll (currently) realy is portraying the image of the community as I expected.
Altough it is true.., if we could campaign.. we could certanly chip the balance a bit..; surely Rider and well.. Ilya :) would probably be much more ahead if we where given the chance to do so..

Actually, he did only kill Berzerker 4 times with UBW. The first time was when he trapped Berzerker in that hole and hit him with the dual wing blades, and thus not in UBW.

There has been a lot of discussion about when and how Berserker lost his 5 lives.
At that time I came up with:
1-The arrow shot.
2-The four blades attack
3-The angel-wing-like blades attack
4&5-UBW

Well i like Archer, because he's cool and stuff.
imagine: through all the summons in all times, he gets to see many blades which he will image it into reality, and hence UBW is the place where all the finest blades he's seen are place, well that just not only tells me he fought alot, but gone through alot too.
secondly i liked gilgamesh, why? he's a villain, yeah, but still, all of us still have this very same side of his: Obsession. he is the king of heroes, yes, but in the end? defeated by Saber, king of knights. he's my favourite for some reason, but mostly in my heart, i think i liked him because he reminds me of myself alot. (Personality i mean)
well i liked saber too! who doesn't yeah? she's cute after a long while in the anime, she blushes and such from then on. after playing the game, my impression on her grew better, and started went wild about her. Her ideals are nice, she had her things to do and she focuses on it, never derived from her path. a good character made by Type-moon :3

even though the anime for the majority neglects her (and to my dismay), i'll love her for her depth, her sad story and relationship with Shirou (why is he so dense and blind!?), and over-all kawaii'ness (and she is still hot, she probably takes on from Rider and overshadows the uhh... other two). simply, she's my type of moe.
that and I've never seen the single sided ribbon pulled off the way she does it. <3

haha, as you can see I am a Saber fan. Not sure why but I just like her when I see her the first time. Her personality is unusual as well, and the way she does things cleanly can be kinda harsh but I like it.
I hated Shirou at first, but as the anime progress I like him more and more, maybe prolly the way of his thinking.

Archer is another one that just jumps out at me for many of the reasons that have already been stated, his conflict with Shirou, not to mention hes got many great lines:D

I will probably get linched for saying this but... I like Shinji :p
Altough not a like as in I would for Archer or Shirou or Ilya which where my top 3 choices.., but a like as in on how so well acomplished his character was.., even if he was ment to be extreamly hated on behalf of everyone.
In that aspect I belive Shinji is able to englobe mostely the same feeling of everyone who watched Fate/Stay.., in which unlike the other characters, everyone has a diferent opinion regarding them.
What is realy so great about Shinji and like Angelsama said.., makes him a legend sort of speak.., is on how he is so well background & personaly developed that realy makes everyone despize him as a human beeing.
Shinji is ambcious, extreamly selfish, arrogant, a lier, has absolutly no care for the wellfare of others and would do anything regardless of how low it would be just to obtain what he wants.., so in other words.. he is a extreamly Weak person (mentaly) and I would say Lawful evil aswell.
And it amazes me on how they where able to fit so many aspects into this character so perfectly.
Amongst many of the deeds Shinji did, I belive to those which stand out the most where his sexual molestations on Sakura, his lies in order to get everything he wanted, and his possible molestation on Rider aswell.
Deeds these though that would literaly in an instant make such a human beeing compleatly dispicable.., and realy they do fit Shinji so SO well.., I realy can't leave out the fact that on behalf of this perfectness of hatred he gives me and all of us.., I end up liking him because his character is definitly one of the better portrayed character-wise for the specified role in the entire story.
And I belive alot of things would have changed for the worst if Shinji had not been built with this hatred prespective we all have towards him.
Now.., please don't linch me.. :p
I just sometimes find such antagonistic attributes in some characters to be simply perfect.., even if I end up hating them in the end.

She was the most innocent female in the series I THINK.
She Has The Best Combination of Purple eyes and hair mixture of all animated series combined.
She is cute as heck and prior to shows 16 one had to feel for her when Rin interrupted her visits to Shirou house where it seemed Rin was taking him from her.
Shes like the Girl i wish moved in next door .....

Oh definately in a character sense Shinji is a well written character, the way he acts and speaks, you wont get lynched for stating the simple truth:p
It's still hard to like him as a "person", still what I do like about Shinji's character is that lets face it im sure there are some of us that were atleast alittle like that in highschool. Not in the molesting girls sense but more like acting like you're better then certain people, making fun of someone for amusment/ to satisfy your own ego etc etc. Characters like this are bound to be hated because we see certain aspects of ourselves and/or other people that we do not like exaggerated.
Ofcourse I still hate Shinji and think he is still lower then dirt and deserves to rot in the deepest darkest pit.:heh:

And Saber only fulfilled the inevitable, because Shinji was a compelte loser. If Rider didn't lose to Saber, it definitely would have been to gilgamesh or some other servant (perhaps caster) because Shinji just blows. But at least Sakura has a big heart that would keep Rider going through the thick of it. Basically like Shirou did for Saber. He made up for his lack of ability with his own body and teamwork. Sakura would probably awaken her OMFG GODDESS power level if Rider needed it.

Gotta be Archer for me. The guy fought incredibly hard against an opponent that just wouldn't die. (except by a lame sword stab from Shirou and Saber. Honestly that made Archer's sacrifice seem stupid if that's all it took to kill a guy 7 times). It was a great fight he was so smug, but when you learned more about him it made sense and made me feel bad for him. After his death the whole show went downhill anyways so Archer is the top guy.

Tohsaka is a good example of a tsundere character done right... she's harsh, forceful, and combative, but not to the point of being abusive. Smarts are also a huge plus for tsundere characters.
Archer has a cool attitude about him. I wish that we would have seen more of him rather than having him hang around in the shadows all the time.
Rider was hot and had a cool fighting style.
Saber... eh, I just liked her.
I wish that Sakura was more than a side character in F/SN. She'd probably be my #3 or #4 if she had more screentime. She was cute.
Shirou, Ilya, Gil, Caster, Fuji-nee, Souichirou, and Lancer were all likable, but none of them really stood out to me.
I couldn't care less about Assassin.
Kotomine probably would have been about equal with Assassin if he were just another character, but you're not supposed to be completely indifferent to the big villain of the series. I'd forgotten about him until I looked at the poll to see if I was missing anybody important.
Berserker's noble phantasm was cheap, and he was probably the most boring servant. Archer vs. Berserker was EoE all over again. Archer would have won that fight.
They did a good job at getting me to hate Shinji. I was praying that Shirou would throw his goody-two-shoes attitude out the window and take a reinforced lead pipe to his head. I hate him even more now that I've heard about what he does in the other routes in the game.
saber because she is looks good and invisible sword owns.
Quite a fascianting cast of characters to choose from, but I narrowed it down to two: Saber and Rin for being such strong characters, for knowing how to put up a good fight.

The bath scenes reveal her as decently endowed.
In armor Saber could pass for an effeminate guy. Of course, she still wears a dress while armored, but her subjects still referred to her as "he".
What that generally explains is that her subjects recognized her as a capable leader, but chose not to recognize her as a woman. I think that adds to the tragic feel of her desire to redo the Selection of the King.
Saber supresses her emotions, and realizes that even though she wants to be accepted as a woman, her subjects will not accept her as such. That's why I like her relationship with Shirou. He recognizes her abilities as a combatant (begrudgingly), but also recognizes her as a woman. That's why she ends up falling for him.

Saber gender discussion? OK.
Not that the legendary Arthur was female. But, conceivably he could have been female.
The King Arthur legend has many elements of Sarmatian myth. Sarmatians were armored heavy cavalry auxiliaries that the Roman Empire used to defend its borders, Roman Britain amongst them.
Watch the 2004 King Arthur movie to understand. Not historically accurate, but you get the general idea.
Sarmatians also had a tradition of equality between sexes in military, when the need called for it. Women fought too. There is a documented Sarmatian queen who defeated the armies of Persian kings. She's not Arthur, mind you, but it shows Sarmatians had warrior queens.
Archer- I've liked him since he first appeared. Mmhmm. He's a badass. He's hot. He's got teh skills. He's basically awesome <_<. He's manly, and he's got the "protective" thing for Rin :P.
Saber- You'd have to be insane to dislike her. I mean, comon. She's the best main character I've seen in any anime. She's awesome. She can own just about anyone.
Assassin- Just something about his..aura, should I say? I love the way he speak too. And his outfit's not too bad either.
Rin- I love her determination, and how she handles things. She's like a parent to the people around her, and she knows how to make decisions and not let them be biased by her own feelings. Example- When she let Archer handle things with Berserker while they ran away. She knew that Archer was going to die. There's no way that Archer could've won against that monster. However, Archer was the only one who could buy time for them. Rin isn't all that strong. Shirou wouldn't stand a chance, and I highly doubt Saber, who can barely walk in her condition, would be able to withstand even one blow from Berserker. They would all die if Archer didn't stay and fight though.
Rider- She's different from the other servants. She's not so harsh, and she's rather gentle. And what else? Her movies are damn sexy.
Gilgamelsh- I love that bad ass attidude of his. Most of the time, I find arrogance in characters annoying. But his kind of arrogance was..dominating. Also, those last lines of his as he touched Saber's face was just so..memorable.
I would've chosen Ilya if only she didn't kill my beloved Archer. x[

You're off by almost 900 years. The earliest surviving account of Arthur that I know of was written in the late 6th Century. Many of the more romantic myths surrounding Arthur were concocted in the 12th Century Vulgate and Post-Vulgate cycles. Mallory's Le Morte d'Arthur was published in 1485.
No one can prove anything about Arthur, as most of the accounts of his life, including the earliest, are fictional. The switch from male to female, I suspect, was entirely a Type Moon innovation.

Meh. Saber is SOOO Pasé... It would be obvious that she'd be popular being the main character in the animé. That's why I prefer the game(Haven't played it yet, waiting for English translation), where Saber is a secondary character as the other folks.
Then, Rin. What's so interesting? She gets PWNED hard At the last part of the animé, maybe the only part that interesting and she was protagonizing it... (Or perhaps the scene at the abandoned house in Berserker's Act...)
Archer. Shirou from the Future, He kicked Berserker five times (Or four?) Asides from having the knowledge of the future of what would happen and HOW EXACTLY to motivate his past self to do as he wanted, and his UBW, he has nothing more interesting.
I won't go into the Ilya territory, since I really can't say something that would hurt someone's feelings (At least more than what I already did...). It's just that her childish attitude (She's supposed to be older than Shirou for goodness' sake!) isn't what I'd expect from a girl that has seen a lot of deaths.
Shirou? He gets everything he knows from getting his butt kicked around by Saber (I really can't understand how a person can improve that way in sword-fighting without having a BASE idea of how it goes...) and suggestive comments by Archer (Already commented on that before.).
Sakura....Well. Her naivety persona really gets on my nerves. Only in Heaven's feel does she really make an achievement in calling my attention. And, of course by resigning her Command Spells to her "brother".
Gilgamesh. COME ON! He gets PWNED by a freaking SCABBARD! How pitiful is that? Even though his Gate of Babylon is pretty cool AND he whipes the floor with Shirou and Saber together....

Suichirou might be the only Master that can really fight on his own, even without counting Caster's little help with hardening his fists. I didn't vote him though. Dunno why...
Caster, or should I say, Medea? The only part I really feel sorry for her is when she does ABSOLUTELY nothing while Assassin and Suichirou do all the work, and when she gets pwned by Gil. She didn't deserve that, since the trio had worked hard to get to that point for suddenly from out-of-nowhere, Gil appeared and SERIOUSLY overpowered them. No fair.
And finally, Rider. What can I say? She only lost for two reasons: SHINJI IS THE SORRIEST (Doesn't exist, but it is fitting!) MASTER THAT EVER EXISTED, since he couldn't give ANY mana to her, therefor, severely relenting her power. And the other reason, Have you ever seen her use her Breaker Gorgon Phantasm in the animé? As far as I know, she used them on Berserker and PWNED him without even sweating!
Sorry if you felt bad, annoyed or insulted in any way while you read this, but I had to get it off my chest, and this was the best place for.

Yes, but you are assuming the anime was done perfectly if you're going to judge them that way, and it certainly wasn't.
I mean 75% of the stuff we know about the servants comes from outside info rather than watching the anime...the only thing we saw about Rider in the anime was that she was hott as hell and had this ninja-ey style of fighting and got completely shafted by a master, and well, Caster, she was just an antagonistic bitch with an obsession for Kuzuki.
But when we get some outside info, we like them a lot more.

Can't agree with you more. And after some research I came to like more Heaven's Feel scenario in comparison to Stay Night. At least the characters are better developed. And we see more new characters such as Dark Saber and Dark Sakura. And a lot more.
I hope they make THAT scenario in animé instead of Hollow Ataraxia. I haven't read much about HA, but I'll try to.
Saber, Archer and the last one Sakura.
I just love their personality.

# Well for me its Gilgamesh hands down. A hell load of skills, and a hell load of weapons, and extremely talented. And the winner of the previous holy grail (as I remember), I think he was by far the strongest one. I didn't really liked how saber beat him, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but good must win thats the lame rule of media. Plus he's like a historical icon, he is not the 1st king as he stated, he's the 5th one (as I read). He's the oldest servant, from a mighty civilization (uruk/babylon). Gilgamesh ftw!
# My second choice would be Archer, I love that guy, he kept hiding his power, and he had a lot. And he sacrificed to save the others. And he kicked berserker's ass (well for a while). He's rational, and the most adult-ish of the servants.
# My third choice would be Rider, because she's amazing, the most character that took my attention, she's very dark and depressed, she was controlled by a loser. She in my opinion has the second most strongest technique (after gilga). And she's the reason I hated saber AS HELL.Man I had hoped she had a fight with gilgamesh oh well. Her burst (like she said) no other servant can stop and thats pretty much true, what seemed to me was that she was not that interested in the whole thing, she looked spaced out thru the whole holy grail thing (I bet she had a brutally depressing history). If she was more interested and determined, and had a normal master she would've kicked serious ass. + she has kick ass hair, and overall appearance (had to say it).
# Oh man I can't believe I forgot Assassin, this is like my 9th edit (since I watched the anime long ago). Assassin also comes at the top of my list. Basically any one with long katana gets my upmost respect. Plus he's the most masterful weapon wielder thru the whole anime. And he's hiken tsubame gaeshi is uber.
PS: Saber sucks. oh and lancer was great too.

I think her character is interesting, especially after seeing her at other storyline like Hollow Ataraxia and UBW. Seeing her and saber reminds me of Rei and Asuka relationship from Evangelion. I mean, just look at her color themes. Red and black while saber is blue and white. Total opposition.:p
2. Archer
He's cool, have knowledge and while sometimes his action seems ilogically, he has reason behind them. And I'm very surprised when knowing who he really is.:rolleyes:
3. Sakura Matou
In the anime, I never think she's interesting character, but when I know Hollow Ataraxia, man, she's change with a twist. I never know that she had secrets too like archer (but I still think Archer's secret was the biggest in the anime show).

It was a tough call. I picked Saber because she's my favorite, but I really like Rin and Sakura too.

1. Gilgamesh- I like villains, plus his attitude and cockiness are cool. He also has some of the best fight sequences with saber. Enuma Elish for the win!:D
2. Assassin- I loved the story behind Assassin, and his two major fights with Saber are really excellent: they show the major difference between eastern and western styles. Tsubame Gaishi For the win!:D
3. Archer- The episode where he fought Berserker was so sad.....particularly how he alludes to his secrets while talking to Ilya. His aloofness and bitterness made him an interesting character to contrast with Saber and Shirou. Unlimited Blade Works for the win!:D

Um, Saber's NOT hotter than Rin. I'm a complete Saber fan, but objectively Saber's a rather plain girl and Rin has loads more sass and sexual presence.
Saber's ordinariness is offset by her heroic temperament and noble-hillbilly cuteness, but that doesn't apply in pure hotness.
Saber's like a golden retriever while Rin's like a siamese cat. It really depends on whether you like dogs or cats.

And she's not psychotic evil. If you know her story you'd know why she's the way she is. Caster actually has a really deep backstory and her characterization in FSN is very appropriate. It's just that the anime doesn't go into it.

God, even in RL, it's annoying to hear guys who talk about their GFs. Remember how annoying Tom Cruise was?
Anyways, Medea was a young princess of a non-Greek country. Her ppl has a high affinity to magic. Her family is descended from the nymph Circe (the immortal witch who imprisoned Odysseus), hence her elf ears. She is of mostly human blood, though.
Jason (a young hero patroned by Hera the queen of the Greek gods) and his Argonauts came to her country to get the golden fleece. She fell in love with him, and helped him steal the golden fleece from her father's possession. She also helped him escape the pursuit of her father's navy. Hence the flashback of her sailing on the Argo (Jason's ship). She killed her own brother to help Jason escape. Depending on who tells the story, it was either an act of desperation to save Jason, or a coldly calculated act to maximize Jason's chances. Either way, she did it.
If you watched that NBC TV mini-series "Jason And The Argonauts," you know the story.
So, she gave up her family, her birthright, and everything she knew, to be with a young hero who she loved. This was a young woman who believed in true love with all her heart and soul.
It's important to note that the fleece quest was do-or-die for Jason. His success in life was entirely dependent on Medea's help at a critical low point in his life.
Medea and Jason had 2 children. But Jason changed. Or he was never such a great man to begin with. He decided to marry another princess in order to gain political power, and to ditch Medea. Oh, and he wanted to keep the kids.
Medea would have nothing left. She didn't even have a home to go back to. She did confront Jason about his betrayal. He had the nerve to tell her "I don't owe you anything. I owe my success in life to love (the concept)."
So she killed her own kids, and flew away. This was a time before divorce lawyers. In the fury of a woman scorned and stripped of everything in life, she took her revenge the only way she had left.
She remarried somewhere else in some backwater kingdom. She was dumped AGAIN by that king, when his son (a young hero patroned by the Greek gods) from a previous marriage came back home (a power struggle thing). At that point, she went back to her own country.
Everything that was soft and light, died in her when her children died. Back in her own country, she helped her uncle retake the lost throne by killing the usurper who had stolen power from her royal family. She lived the rest of her life in relative peace. She never remarried.
Examining her life story, it is easy to see why she holds heroes and their talk of justice and righteousness in utter contempt, why she disdains morality. Medea is a woman betrayed by her heroic and romantic ideals of youth. Just the sight of someone righteous like Saber must give her the urge to pluck all their limbs off like an insect. 1. Almost all of the Servants in FSN have "substance." You just have to be well read. That includes Saber; you can't appreciate her fully unless you are familiar with her history.
2. Tsukihime the anime is mediocre. Arcueid is nothing like Saber. At least from the anime.
3. The art style of FSN is pretty standard anime fare. It's the story, design, and characterization which make the characters special.

i thought the anime had a really slow story progression, but in the end, episode twelve really made me wanna cry, least shirou knew saber was leaving and saber died peacefully, but arcueid in tsukihime had like the complete opposite. anyways, stay on topic, who is true assassin?

the scene is good and gets the mood going but Saber and Rin were drawn with skinny bony long arms, legs and with very small breasts in the hentai scenes.
Rin was drawn with some meat when she has sex with Shirou in the classroom but that was actually Rider or Caster disguised as her (correct me if i am wrong) but her eyes were glowing just like Rider's, will explain how she was drawn with godly like body and not anorexic like her true self. It was dream i think too.

I must say, Demongod DID make his homework by defending Rider to death. I must agree fully with him.
Second of all, Saber is only number 1 char in popularity because of her screen time. Popularity obeys a simple ecuation. For the ones who know basic graphs of ecuation, picture graph of g(x)=x if you get it. In short, a line that is proportional to both screen time and popularity.
Believe me, if even Caster was the main char, people would surely have temples in her name as some have in Saber's (NOT a part of them, but if there was a Rider one, you'd see me at the front row.)

i spoken with the poster Archer who knows pratically all about Archer. i didnt argue with him cause i havent started playing the game though seeing as Shirou was able to defeat Black Saber, a servant version should prevail. Shirou from HF route is the strongest Master. Though his weak stats worries me as a servant and also that he is with Rin, imagine if he had a master like a beginner's experience such as Shirou when he first started.
Hopefully you can prove me wrong though I think Saber gots his number and also Gilgamesh, probably Berserker as well.

wtf?? dear lord i thought you would of known which ending i was talking about but i guess not! in the simple ending in the HF he did! He defeated her and destroyed her heart and lungs. There was no Rider present. i wasn't talking about that ending, sweet jesus.
Shirou shreds Saber's internal organs and after he defeated her she congratulated him on his victory and told him to finish her off. Too bad he didn't cause he collapsed and his body just shut down. RIP! Saber though recovers because of the shadow's regeneration/healing ability even though being badly injured and beaten.
