I'm looking for a anime with a really good story line. Not just good, but knock your socks off good.

AH!
Shingetsutan Tsukihime knocked my shoes, socks, pants, shirt, and brief GREAT.
Juuni Kokuki (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=26) - my fav anime, story-wise
Haibane Renmei (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=271) - the story is very... unique. but that's what makes it good
Shadow Skill TV - i loved it. :) but people might disagree

X TV - animenfo's #29 on the top 200 anime

Infinite Ryvius - lord of the flies x science fiction type jargon = win

1. Kimi Ga Nozoumu Eien (~14 episodes)
2. Elfen Lied (~13 episodes)
Two of my favorite animes, short and straight to the point (no filtering episodes).
If pressed for time, watch those!
You won't want to leave your room for a couple days after watching KgNE... so you're not really saving a bunch of time by watching a short anime. (though it's beyond me why anyone pressed for time would be watching anime)
What are "filtering" episodes?
Sorry...

I think he means filler. But I strongly advise not to watch KgNE before exams or doing something really important or necessary. It will depress one's spirits, and the heroes save for Haruka (?) are total idiots. Elfen Lied's pretty good as well, but I don't suggest watching it along with Tsukihime.
To add about Tsukihime, it presents a unique vampire archetype - a sublime apotheosis of its antithesis - in short, it destroys all stereotypes of vampires and presents a very beautiful love story, to boot. There's also enough action; the knife battles are simply amusing.

Twelve Kingdoms. One of the best stories you could ever hope to see. One of my all-time favourite animes. Has an awesome soundtrack too, always a bonus :)
Fantastic Children. I'm watching this at the moment (nearly finished actually), it totally rocks. And no it doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with schoolkid-aged detectives, it's much darker and more sinister than that :D
Last Exile. Fantastic series. Good story, nice characters, top of the line CG work, good animation, and some spectacular air battles between fleets of airborne battleships. This series has it all :)
You won't want to leave your room for a couple days after watching KgNE... so you're not really saving a bunch of time by watching a short anime. (though it's beyond me why anyone pressed for time would be watching anime)I dunno, I watched it and went to work the next day. It's not like it's likely to cause you to reexamine your place in the universe or anything. :)

Sorry, I meant fillering episodes. What I mean by "short and and sweet" is you can finish the anime in a day or two.
Favorite Animes
1. Kimi Ga Nozoumu Eien (most realistic plot)
2. Elfen Lied
3. Naruto (dropped to third cuz of too much damn filtering eps.)
4. Rurouni Kenshin (recommend over other animes dealing with samurais)
5. Inuyasha
6. Yakitate!! Japan (Puns are fun!)
7. Full Metal Panic (All Series)
8. Full Metal Alchemist
9. Ah! My Goddess (A Goddess with an angel of her own....That's too good)
10. Fruits Basket
deathbygirl

Monster. Length is rather significant, but it does knock socks (and other articles of clothing) off pretty well.

rozen maiden
mahoraba is a little longer but i loved it
Thanks for the replys, I think I'm going to be watching anime for awhile!:eyespin:
I think he means filler.
Yeah I was picking on him... I think the mistake isn't so much spelling as a basic misunderstanding of the term:
Sorry, I meant fillering episodes.
3. Naruto (dropped to third cuz of too much damn filtering eps.)
Just for your info mastermind, don't add "ing" to "filler". It doesn't make any sense.
Berserk has one of the best stories I know of, but I'd advise you to not watch the first episode. I'd skip the last couple episodes too. There's no filler and the characters are amazing to watch. I still can't put a finger on when one of the major characters turned from a hero into a villain, although I'm sure he wouldn't think in those moral terms anyways.
I also second Monster as brought up before. It's an incredibly well done story with multi-layered characters.
