Not every School Rumble character is represented in this poll. If the thread proves popular enough and people don pitchforks demanding another poll with a second set of characters to vote for, then we’ll work something out.

This is a multiple choice poll and while we won’t restrict you from voting for every character, please try to limit your choice to your top 2 or 3 picks if you can. If you like the entire cast equally, then so be it, but if you can narrow it down a bit, then that’s even better. If you like one character the most, then don’t feel the need to vote for anymore.

He's gotta be one of my favourite male characters ever. Damn, he's just so funny. :D His constant failings just make me root for him more and more.

I also like Sawachika. She's the person I root for most after Harima. The dance scene from the first season was probably my favourite moment for her.

My top favourites would include (in no particular order): Harima, Eri, Ichijou, Mikoto, Imadori and Tae.
But, I could not watch the series without Eri's tsundere-ness and Karen.. uh I just like everything about her. :love:

Eri - Being a flagger and all, how can't I include her?
Tenma - She's cute, though kinda thick in the head.
Akira - Mysterious. Yes I love mysterious characters.
Suou - The most mature among the four
Yakumo - The ideal japanese girl
Ichijou - So cute, so strong.
Imadori - The funniest character in school rumble.
Anegasaki - Hario~~~<3 is just so cool. I didn't like her in the Basketball Arc though

Tenma-chan : In the language of flowers, her name would be "Everything about you is funny."

Eri-chan : The choice is clear once she began to steal the whole show. A very adorable tsundere.

Harima-kun : The tough delinquent who is helpless before the power of love. His interaction with the rest of the School Rumble cast is memorable.

Tenma : She seems like a joke herself and i cant stand laughing at things that she speaks. and she always does silly stuffs.

Eri : One of the character i fancy

Miko-chin : Just love her style. The D cups joke of hers.

Yakumo : My fave of them all..and what can i say..she look calm in everything she do. and her expression nv really change much..

Harima : The only guy that can make me laugh by how his love could be such a misunderstanding to everyone.

I went with Harima and Yakumo.

In the case of Harima, he's the character that makes School Rumble enjoyable.

As for Yakumo, her quiet personality, ability to read minds, and Mamiko Noto voice definitely reminds me a lot of Nodoka from Negima, and when I finally got a chance to see a Yakumo-centerd story, I definitely found her to be a likable character.

Ive got three that I really like.
First is Suou. Kindof the girl that I love in real life, makes me just love her.
I dont think shes one of the best looking characters but shes got a cute side, which attracts me to her.

Second is Yakumo. Cute, careing and just wonderfull as a person. Definitly a girl I like.

Third is Ichijou. The voice, I love it. Her personality, I love it. And, she can ripp the arm of you! (No, the last one wasnt seriouse, or was it?)

Eri and Harima are the characters which make it work for me. After 180 chapters of the manga I came to hate Tenma (actually make that 10 or so ;) ). She simply annoys the hell out of me and is the cause for stalling everything, aside from being a two-dimensional character with the least possibility of a development.

Don't care too much for the rest of the cast, they are fun when they appear, but it doesn't really matter when they don't. Gave out votes for Asou, Karen, Sarah and Yakumo though, because they were the most interesting and I like to see more of them.

Yeah... Makes me wonder why did JK made Tenma the main character. Harima is the secondary, but he acts as the main nearly in all the episodes of SR season 1 and 2, OAV and Manga.

Asou is another interesting character...maybe if he would be given a push he would rival Harima's popularity, but Hanai's there to rival Harima. :)

Hmm...Kinda reminds me of the time Hanai when he was young, he was the exact opposite also of what he is now. Maybe that's the reason why Yakumo likes the "GUY" character in Harima's manga.

The basketball section of SR S2 shifted the focus to the side characters in the story. Thankfully, Eri will be taking back the spotlight very shortly, and she's there to stay.

What is it about her that makes her the most popular? The blonde hair, the mixed race, voice, personality? I tend to like hard to get characters, so that does the trick for me. Yakumo's pretty cool though...she's grown on me in this season. I guess basically Yakumo vs Eri chan...or Eri chan vs everyone. What does it for you?
There are a multitude of reasons why the fans love Eri, so it's hard to come up with a comprehensive list. That being said, I'll see what I can come up with off of the top of my head. ;)

Aesthetics
Eri's character design is very distinct. For starters, she's one of the few girls in the series who has an angular, "cat's eye" shape, as opposed to the standard round eye shape that KJ uses (other characters with this eye design are Itoko, Yakumo, and Saeko). In addition to this, she tends to recieve the most close-up shots out of all of the characters, so we often see her drawn in a higher level of detail. Some of the features that you see drawn in are features like "spoke-lines" on her irises and realistic eyelashes. You can also watch her role in the series evolve with the manner in which she is drawn. In the early manga volumes, she has a more silly look, to match her role as a supporting character. By the time that she has taken over the main focus of the story in the later volumes, she's the most beautifully drawn character in the series.

Character
Eri's greatest strength is in her personality. As a character, she is extremely versatile. At one moment, she might be in the middle of a serious, dramatic scene, and in the next, she might be pulling off a comedy routine with Harima. This balance of comedy and drama is an important part of SR, which is one of the reasons why much of the storyline is built around her character. Many of the other characters in the series, by contrast, tend to be pidgeonholed into a particular role, such as Tenma for comedy, and Yakumo for drama.

To aid in this task, Eri also has one of the largest arrays of facial expressions at her disposal. In anime, the eyes and face tends to be drawn out of proportion - drawing viewer focus and allowing them to pick up on subtle changes in expression. Eri makes full use of this to her advantage - in many scenes, these visual cues add a lot of depth to her character and her emotional response.

Eri also shines in terms of character development. Most of the major events and conflicts in the plot are tied in to her growth as a character, and she emerges from each trial stronger than before. If you stop and compare Eri in recent chapters with Eri when we first were introduced to her character, it's amazing to see how much she's changed.

Overall, I find Eri to be a superbly thought out and written character. Even if SR accomplishes nothing in terms of plot and relationships, I wouldn't mind - Eri is an achievement in herself.

Eri's character development throughout the story is closely linked to Flag. If you enjoy watching Eri grow as a character, if you love the chemistry between Harima and Eri that made SR S1 popular, or if you just love the "Fetch me some tea" routine, you're bound to be a Flagger, in some form or another. It's tricky to separate being a Flagger and an Eri fan, since Eri's interests are so closely tied to Flag's success. I'd like to see Harima grow more as a character before anything happens, though.

I chose Karasuma! Huhu, though there are only a few votes for him, I still chose him. Honestly, I think he's a wise young man, and the only person in the anime to rival Akira when it comes to perceptiveness. He seems to know more than he shows (due to his poker-faced attitude). And you must admit, he is very talented. (Sigh) I wonder why few people adore him.

Nehh...That's a bit cruel. I don't think he's that dry. I think he's just the typa person with lots to hide. If you think about it in terms of real life, he is a very mysterious character. Hardly anything is said about him, and though most find it strange/silly (not to mention his passiveness comedic), that is what brings the mystery in him.

I'm actually quite pleased with this second semester as it brings more insight into, not only Karasuma's personality and thoughts, but also on the others as well.

I thought Miko put up strong showings in the date/arcade ep some time ago and the current ep16. Right at this point in time I may even be liking her more than Eri, who's been dropping for me lately. Upbeat is so much more attractive than downbeat. Is no one else wavering in Eri loyalty a bit? I'm kinda even liking Tenma more since at least she has zip--though she too had her downbeat spell briefly during the bball arc.

About Karasuma, I will give it to you that the guy is apparently damn talented

No one else can really pull off what Harima has done for this entire series. There just has to be a Harima in School Rumble. Akira has been one of my favorites from the start, and although she doesn't make as much screen time as the others, she really shines when she does.

There aren't too many characters I would vote for...Just trying to think of how and why I like each and every of those characters is a little too taxing for me.:heh:

Harima Kenji-Why not? Interesting main character (One that isn't a nice guy or a wimp, and is a gag character too). Despite his tough guy stance, one can't help but laugh at his attempts to get Tenma to notice him and cry in sympathy at his hopelessness in some situations. Another thing about him is that he's really a good man: Focusing on Tenma and only Tenma without getting distracted by other girls in the vicinity. It may be that he's just plain stupid to notice the attention of others, but I think he's pretty much sure of who he really likes thus far. How many guys out there have the ability to do that? There's the gag tag team with Hanai, too...:heh:

Sawachika Eri-Quite an interesting character too. Looks good, behaves like a princess...but has a completely different side to her especially when it comes to Harima.;) A tsundere, no less, and the more I watch her, the more I find her to be somewhat like Tohsaka Rin, especially the pigtails.:p Of course, her combination with Harima was one of the most entertaining things to watch in the show.

Tsukamoto Yakumo-It's been too long since a quiet and shy girl like her take part of the centrestage. One plus for her is the ability to somehow read the minds of the guys who like her (though it hasn't been showed a lot around in second semester). Of course, there's her looks as well. It seems that she was drawn a little more different compared to the Mikoto, Tenma and Eri, which makes her a little more unique. I like the fact that she's that helpful when it comes to Harima and his manga and also the fact that she somehow seems to have excellent reflexes when someone attacks her (Eri as the prince) and when someone speaks ill of her sister. (season 1). Yakumo and Harima FTW for me. They seem to create a warmer atmosphere of relationships compared to other couplings IMHO.

Asou Hiroyoshi-Practically one of the only 'cool' guys left in the anime. :lol: He might seem a lot like a typical shounen anime character, but that's just part of what makes him unique. I like him as a guy who's rather serious, but also has a kind side to him as well. Too bad there isn't more focus on him....

Suou Mikoto-Sporty girl, well-endowed...Well, physical characteristics differentiate her from the others, more or less. But I find also find her to be a rather strong personality yet somewhat emotional when it comes to relationships and her friends. Of course, there's her show of concern for her childhood friend as well as her three other best friends.

Hanai Haruki-Never voted for him, but he came close. He was really funny, coming off as a serious person yet slowly 'degenerate' into being a guy obsessed about Yakumo, eventually moulding him into a gag character. The way he tries to be serious about everything...Just makes it funnier.

Karasuma Ooji-Quite a bland character, until he replies to Tenma's enthusiasm or worries when she voices it out to him. The fact that he doesn't do anything to change his facial expression yet do weird things makes for more humor. Another one that almost made my list.

And that's about it, I suppose.:heh:

Well, according to the last japanese poll, Yakumo is much more appreciated than Eri.
Anyway, my favorite one is still Mikoto for being far different than the usual cliché females. I love how she's such a great friend, supportive of Tenma and Eri, always kind to other people, even "bad boys" like Harima. But she lacks self-confidence and her weakness is love. I also like the fact she's not smart like Eri and Akira, hence she has to study a lot.
I don't like tsundere characters like Eri (Rin of F/SN is the only exception, mostly because of Archer :D ) but I'm sympathetic to Yakumo since she sometimes breaks the stereotype of the shy girl. She tries so hard to help her sister. I voted Tenma because she's adorable and she needs support.
As for boys, Asou is my crush :p . And I voted Imadori and Tougou because they're great comic-relieves

No surprise to see Harima at the top. He's one of the more unique main anime characters that I've seen in a long time.

I gave some street cred to:

Yakumo - Because I'm an Onigiri
Akira - Because she's a part time secret agent
Yoshidayama - Because he reminds me of Edge from Project Justice

Thanks for bringing this up, because this totally reminds of me Tatewaki Kuno's character on Ranma 1/2, way back when.
The first season, Kuno started out as something to be feared, but then quickly became a joke on the 2nd season (much like all the other male characters on that show, save Ryoga). I dunno, I just don't like it when a potentially good characters deevolves into a running gag.

Tough choices. I like most of the major characters pretty well, but I ended up with Tougou, Eri, and Tenma for top 3.

Tougou is most over-the-top hilarious and I like the way he takes everything in stride, Eri brings the actual romantic drama and I like the way her aloofness plays off the other characters, and Tenma... I dunno, I guess it's those pigtails going crazy whenever she gets excited. Just like the character.

funnily, i think i'm the only one who didn't vote for harima.. initially, he was an interesting chap but the fact that he is still in a state of denial gets really frustrating. there are other better hot girls who like him for godsake like eri or yakumo but he still pins for tenma who obviously love karasuma. i suppose this is done on purpose so that the stories become endless and continue on season after season. i feel like screaming at harima to get on with it and tell tenma and then get over it. the plot doesn't seem to be progressing at all with harima still trying to confess to tenma.

i suppose this is why karasuma and asou are my favourite male characters. although karasuma may seem like a dry and boring person. i think as you get to know little details about him, it's quite surprising that a daydreaming quiet boy writes manga and can play the guitar! it's also pretty obvious that he cares for tenma although he doesn't show much initiative but anyone notice how he appears everytime tenma thinks about him... it's almost creepy.

asou is probably the only decent guy in the story. the rest are just.. pervertic.. -.-
i can't believe even nakara or something like that is also part of that organization the class had. anyways, totally give my support to asou x miko~ i also wish there is more focus on him..

for female characters, i voted for ichijou, yakumo and miko.
tenma is just plain irritating and acts like a baby most of the time. sure she's funny but i just get sick of her after awhile. but i do salute her in her pursue for karasuma.

yakumo is the all rounded good girl who takes care of everybody, helpful, kind. polite and wary of boys. i hope some side character in the story might come out and be her knight in shining armor. i believe she deserves a better guy who understands her and do not go GA GA over her that would just scare her away. oh well, maybe im such a romantic who believes in happy ending which is why it frustrates me that the story has no appearance of a decent ending or maybe there is.. i'm still somewhere in the middle of the 2nd season.

hmm.. miko and ichijou has a similarity in which they possess almost super human strength.. let's just say they are strong girls but yet very sweet natured. i like them in the basketball arc and i wish there is more focus on them too.

Just started watching it last night. Up to and including episode 16 so far.

OH. MY. GOD.

Eri and Yakumo are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo pretty. :love:

Yakumo is just the sweetest girl ever. If only there were real Yakumos in the world, because I am pretty sure I've never met one despite living for 19 years and currently going to a University with over 21,000 female students. Nevertheless, I can hope I meet my "Yakumo" someday... which is probably never, given my luck.

And Eri... So pretty, too. Seems kinda vulnerable and that's just sooo cute. Seems kinda weird to say, but I wish I knew an Eri.

And then rounding out my top 3 favorite characters is Harima. He is my idol now. What a great character. ^_^

I voted Harima, Eri, Mikoto, Akira and Lala.

1. Harima: Hard not to like this guy, particularly when he goes into chibi form. Frequently makes me laugh my arse off.

2. Eri: We have the obligatory tsundere type right here, and I must say she probably tops my list of female characters in the show. She's able to inspire sympathy in me where Tenma just can't.

3. Mikoto: Hilariously embarrassable (yeah I know it's not a word), and the pool hockey game was just a big pile of awesomeness, especially after she gets hit on the knee by Hanai. "Iiiiiiitttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai!"

4. Akira: Ridiculously insightful, and has the best deadpan jokes. And who can forget the animal costumes.

5. Lala: "Ichi-Jou!" The voice acting is superb, and her character is very funny. "Kore wa Kore, Sore wa Sore!"

Props to Hanai for his famous pied piper act. I don't think I have laughed that hard in a long time.

1. Harima Kenji: He seriously has to be one of the most lovable characters in the show, he reminds me a lot of myself, In school I'm pretty much the misunderstood delinquent that most people are too scared to even talk to, mostly because I got into a lot of fights, and people just assume that you're a badass just because you got into a few fights. XD

2. Sawachika Eri: One of my favorite Tsundere characters, with one of my favorite Seiyuus doing her voice, she seemed kinda loathesome at the beginning, but by the middle of season 1 she showed alot of character development.

3. Harry McKenzie: Who can't love this Char Aznable clone? I remember the episode when he made his debut, with the whole "Harima Kenji" name mix up, I was just thinking one thing that whole episode: "CHAR CLONE!" XD

4. Imadori Kyosuke: The perverted ones always turn out to be the funniest, especially when they're secretly sentai fans, Imadori had me rolling on the floor that episode where he kept saying "D!" XD

5. Togou Masakazu: I'm surprised no one listed Togou yet, he's been one of my favorite chars since he made his debut. He just does the funniest, most random stuff while he hangs out with Harry, who's just cool, and collected all of the time. They could make a great comedy pair.

Well, I voted for Eri and Harima, and I'm not surprised they're the two most popular characters. Harima, in my opinion, is what makes this show unique. The closest example I can think of in any other show is Onizuka from GTO (what with the motorbikes, and the fighting). He actually has me laughing out loud, which is rare for a romantic comedy show!

Eri, of course, plays off Harima perfectly. The two of them have a great mix of humerous and touching scenes. Though she appears to be turning into a bit of a nasty character recently, what with her baiting Yakumo more, and even being harsh to Tenma due to jealousy. But that just makes her more human. And the tsundere thing meant I couldn't not vote for her!

I actually also voted for Hanai, because he's just an idiot! I love his fight scenes with Harima, and the way that Akira is just plain cruel to him.

She's a Goddess and a Devil in one package and the series would be half as interesting without her. and The Mangaka should scrap all storylines and make a " Taming of the Shew" kinda story involving Eri and Harima. Throw in the equally beautiful Yakumo for instant classic. Throw Tenma, Karasuma and Akira in the garbage for all I care, they drag down the series.

Harima - I have never seen such a great male lead. Beyond his comedic role in the anime, he really showed that he was a truly good hearted individual, putting Tenma's desires above his own. And his role as a guy who wants to be something against his personality speaks to me. Manga man!

Yakumo - Really, I envy her so much. Her joys in little things and pragmaticism is exactly the type of person I want to be. Like her dressing in her Yukata because it was hot, rather than trying to run off to an air conditioned place or fighting her sister. Or her relationship with the cat, the truly simple joy of just loving and being loved. The ghost of that girl also boosted my love for her a lot. So calm and rationale in the face of death.

As you can probably tell, I'm very Onigiri.

I gotta say a big vote for Harima.... for more than one reason. The main one being that everybody tells me I'm exactly like him. A lot about me is similar to him XD

I also really like the two girls who have crushes on him, Yakumo and Eri.
Yakumo is really sweet and mature and cool.... even though Harima doesn't notice it.
Eri is an awesome character and she's really nice... one of the things that makes me root on for her is that Harima got her all wrong... I wish he could see that she's not really all that bad at all.... it's not like she's mean to him or anything >_>;

Eri is my most favorite character of the series. I dunno. I may have a flair for the tsundere archetype but whatever. I like how she was developed later in School Rumble and actually stealing Tenma's spotlight as the "main protagonist"

I've voted Harima and Eri.

Harima is probably my favourite character in anime overall. Just love the crazy stuff he does. So far, I haven't seen any other anime character that actually undergoes lasting physical changes in their appearance during a season. Hilarious how he goes from moustache to shaven to full beard, long hair to bald etc...

Eri is my 2nd favourite SR character. Her interactions are always hilarious with Harima. How they fight and argue is always funny to watch, yet you can always see some form of kindness from her.

I think Karasuma was okay, I just wish they could have done more for rather than make him just Tenma's love interest. Like what was his history? What was his life like in America? I wish they could have capitalize on that like continue the series with that story. Like show how Tenma is schooling there, and probably Karasuma would remember something, like I don't know, old friends from America if he had any, and somehow tries to remember other stuff and almost forgets Tenma, or maybe a childhood friend he had in the States giving Tenma competition, or something like that, or even how he got this sickness, while the drama between Harima, Eri and Yakumo goes on in Japan, that could've been a way to continue the story. Just a suggestion.

True Oni and Harima are kind of the best delinquents, though Oni is more perceptive than Harima.

Though my favorite male lead is quite bit different from those two - its Kyon. Pretty average in everything, but damn, I have never seen any other character use sarcasm and irony as masterfully as Kyon does (specially in the novels).

When it's not a shitty Harem... element of surprise is delightful especially Tsundere cases or secretly shy.

The blond dude had a lot of potential but loses out to Harima in the funny department

It seems Petite-little highschool girls are favorites among Mangaka to star in their story... and which they have a tendency to create even better girls as the story goes on. In KJ's case Eri was too much for his beloved Tenma-chan

and that's just what I love... I hate the so called star always getting their routine assurance, watching the underdogs become superior is refreshing.

what I meant, was, that Harima is the best "GOLD-HEART DELINQUENT" I have seen so far

sure there are animes with better gold-heart guys and even worse (meaning: having even more fights and stuff) delinquents than Harima, or guys who get all the girls in the anime, or guys who are even more stupid than him, but they can't combine everything like Harima

he's the best mix of these categories
he's so damn stupid that I can't bear it sometimes (misunderstanding everything xD)
but if it comes to important things he'll stand straight like a man and he will solve it, even if it ends in a misunderstanding again^^
he's no womanizer but he gets along with all the main chara girls and he even has a few hormones to make girls to fall in love with him

I don't know the anime, since series like this scream 'DO NOT WATCH' for me ... but:
Being a chick magnet doesn't equal awesomeness!
Their morals and character is what counts. Like; Onizuka IS a pervert, but he's still such a great guy, that it doesn't really matter.
Otherwise I just don't have much respect for Harem protagonists. They tend to be wusses that just get all the girls through their kindness ... boring XD But that's my taste~

And Harima is popular with the ladies because he isn't trying. You see how he does WHEN he tries in his scenes with Tenma ... xD

I think it's the worst way a 'romance' anime could end. It's not like you die if you don't get the guy you like. Love isn't sharable between 3 or more equally. It just doesn't work and thus is way more sad for me than having a happy couple and a girl that has to move on. I just think the authors wants to please the fans and/or unable to write a proper end.

And in Ayase's case .. I felt sorry for her too, but imo it would have felt stupid if she had a back up just like that. The way it ended was just fine for me. It would have felt forced. To show her getting over it / coping with the situation was nicely done imo. The life goes on message in her case was a nice change (comparing to other anime).
I just don't think that everyone needs to be paired off with someone, to be a part of the happy ending.

Ayase didn't knew more about Sawamura than Eri about Harima. They only know what they get from interacting with them or hearing something.
But an approach like Ayase is just impossible for Eri. Yes, Ayase always disguised her intentions in a way so she always had a way left to deny everything and keep her pride, BUT Eri is just not able to be seductive to Harima. She just can't.
It's already hard for her to talk nicely to him. The only time she's been just a little bit in that seductive way, was when she reminded him of the 'promise' to go to the oyster bar with her, with a lovely, inviting smile.
...Or the time he stayed at her place and she smiled like that to him unconciously when saying "No one ever said something like that to me")
But I can only remember these two smiles. Everything else what comes to mind is "HIGE!! :frustrated:"

Normally she isn't able to show her nice side to him. Whenever she sees him she starts to be the Eri, only her friends and Kenji, know. The one that makes a face, slaps, screams around, kicks and picks fight without a reason.
We even see Harima being shocked as hell about her acting like a sweet girl, when they are in the temple and she doesn't know he's him.
Her interactions with worker-san and the regular ones with Hige, just show how different she acts around him.

..... same can be said about Harima, too. He's way more bitchy when talking to her.

I always wonder if they'd keep they're bickering attitude if they'd become a couple.
You can't make up, when you don't fight after all :D
