View Full Version : Full Moon Wo Sagashite
Hi... I'm kinda curious about the Full Moon Wo Sagashite manga. Is it already completed in Japan? And if it's still continuing, how many of them are out so far?
And err, is there a lot of difference between the anime and manga? :heh:
Help appreciated! Thanks! :help:

Don't know the exact number but I'm sure it's around 22+ chapters by now, with no sign of ending soon. I read some of the manga, and I watched all of the anime. Well, the main difference would be the pace. The entire anime covered only about 14 chapters it seems, and in comparison the story differs in details. Since I'm bored right now (hehe), I'll type a lenghty post. Sorry if my memory is wrong about the manga, in my opinion the manga story is not quite as memorable as the anime series.
BIG SPOILERS below, take caution
.
.
.
.
.
- Mitsuki's idol progress is different. In the anime she's very popular and has 3 singles, in the manga I think she had 2 singles, and was not quite popular yet.
- Eichi's death in the anime was due to a car accident in America, in the anime it was a plane crash. Mitsuki found it out (anime) in America, while she knew about it all along (manga) when she watched the news.
- Mitsuki in the manga seems... (sorry to say) dark and demented. She refuses to acknowledge Eichi's death and pretends that he is still alive, which gives her the 'wrong' drive to sing. Mitsuki in the anime has her down sides but she is the more positive one, because her dilemmas resolve quickly.
- Shinigami Izumi seems less evil in the manga than in the anime. Mitsuki's rival Madoka seems less vital in the manga, in the anime she was quite the nice person I like.
- Many characters were added in the anime, including Mitsuki's classmates (you don't see school too often in the manga), some fans (3 girl students, a little kid, a proxy-manager, etc. They are not just there for filler eps, they actually pop up around from time to time), and other singers/bands in the music industry.
- It also seems like the focus in the anime is more on Mitsuki's singing career, the Eichi dilemma, and also Mitsuki's apparent 1-year time limit, while in the manga it's more on the relationships of the characters (oof even Doctor Wakaouji loved Mitsuki lol).

Seems to me that the manga won't end soon...
I really want to know what will happen to mitsuki and takuto at the end of the manga...

Wow so people DO have an interest in it!
I only saw the anime, but maybe someday i'll watch the manga. The thing about manga's is..I always prefer to actaully watch something. It's kind of boring when you're just looking at still pictures in my opinion.
I really like the manga. The anime is good too of course, gotta love Myco's singing. I hope maybe someone will pick this up for an american release. ^^; I want to read more and I like how the manga seems to have more of a dark overtone.
so the manga has not ended in Japan yet? oO' i thought since the anime was finished the manga has finished... guess not, ne? :) now i really wanna read the rest of FMwS!! anyone know of anyone else besides TW who is scanlating it? ^^
Thanks for your replies!
Hmm, so in the manga, how are Mitsuki and Takuto's relationship like? Any progress? Or are they just still friends? Ehehe, I'm quite a fan of Mitsuki and Takuto! :D
Then err, so where is the manga up to now? Like for example, their plot is up to Eichi's death sort of thingie...
And oh, btw, can anyone tell me what other works for anime and manga she has produced?
Thanks!

If you meant the creator of the FMwS manga, her works that I remember were Time Stranger Kyoko and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, among others. All of her manga have similar styles of intricate and detailed drawing. Though I find it too detailed to the point that black and gray shades of manga seem to make it quite dirty to the eye, it's probably because I only see it in scanslations and picture files. Maybe the actual manga is pleasing to the eye.

Oh, I see... Actually, I have already heard of those. In fact, I'm downloading Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne now... :heh:
I was just wondering if there were any other works beside this. Anyway, is Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne a good anime?

I got the feeling that Dr. Wakaouji loved Mitsuki in the anime. although it wasn't explicitly stated. I really liked all of the characters in the anime, actually the only problem I had with the story was when I stopped to think about the incredible age differences between Mitsuki and the men/love interests in her life. The closest in age is Eichi, who is still 6 years older than her, then Takuto who is 12 years older and the Dr. who had to have been 18-20 years older (he was the same age as her father). Why would all these older men be interested, or rather, in love with a 12 year old girl? Somehow the story could have been written so she was older and the age thing would be less of an issue. If the manga focuses more on the relationships I think the age thing would bother me even more.
Well age has never bothered me and I didn't even once think of the age differences.. Oh well, that's just me I guess. ^_^;

Hmm, but I dun think that Wakaouji loves her cos at the end of the anime, it was stated that Wakaouji was in a relationship with Ooshige-san.
Anyway, I read somewhere that Takuto is only 16 years old when he died. Which means to say that he is only 4 years older than Mitsuki.

Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne anime is average for me. Hmm, I think I should stop comparing the anime and the manga, because for this series they are very different, but...
I have read 2 of the 7 volumes of the manga so far, and it's a good read. It's not as lonely as FMwS, but it also has it's up and down parts. The 44-episode anime takes the basic plot structure of the manga (The heroine steals works of art which have evil spirits in it) and made it into a filler-fest of 'monster of the week' or something to that effect. Near the latter half of the series there is a nice plot which they derived from the manga, which basically puts a closure to who are the real good and bad guys.

In the anime, I think Wakaouji loves Mitsuki the way a father does his daughter. He promises to Mitsuki's parents that he would look out for her. It's very endearing as he even sacrificed some of his doctor work to help fulfill her dream of being a singer.
About the older men being infatuated with Mitsuki, it may be possibly due to her 16-year old self. In my opinion, a girl having a 12-year old heart and mind on a 16-year old body is particularly cute! And with Mitsuki's attitude (not her dark attitude take note) she is very adorable.

Yeah, I agree. Sometimes, I feel as if Wakaouji is like Mitsuki's father too.
Yup, in the first place, I find that Mitsuki is quite mature for her age. You see, in the anime, she hardly cries. In fact, you dun see her crying about her going to die soon. The only times when she cried is for Eichi or Takuto. :)
In the manga Wkaouji is also like a father to Mitsuki, and he has a developing relationship with Mitsuki's manager. I have read through chapter 20 (beginning of volume 5) and there are almost too many changes to note. The backgrounds of the Shinigami are covered alot more thoroughly in the manga, which makes their reasons for helping Mitsuki even more poignant.
Spoilers about Eichi:
The real tragedy about how Eichi died, is that the plane he was taking to America (right after his adoption) crashed. Mitsuki learned about it on the news but completely blocked it out.
Spoilers about Takuto and Mitsuki:
In the manga by the time volume 5 rolls around, Takuto has confessed to Mitsuki. However, he confessed pretty quickly after she remembered about Eichi's death (which she had completely blocked out of her mind because of how painful it was.)
Mitsuki hasn't recovered completely from the shock of remembering it, and isn't able to return his feelings.
For lighter reading by Tanemura Arina you can try ION, it is a short series, but pretty light-hearted. To find out who has scanlated what chapters of these series see http://www.manganews.net :)

Japanese only, though I heard they might, MIGHT release it here.
The manga recently covered Izumi's past, and a few months ago went over Meroko's past.
They're now at
Mitsuki wants to quit being an idol
Nothing further was touched on Takuto & Mitsuki's relationship, though Takuto gets jealous when she's having a good time with other guys :)

Ooh! Any rumor is welcome, as long as it's Ribon. They have a lot of good shoujo series in that magazine. But I don't think that is true, too bad.

This is all from the top of my head:
Meroko's Past:
Meroko's real name is Moe, whom lived around 40-50 years ago, and is actually Mitsuki's Grandmother's best friend.
Mitsuki's Grandmother had frail health, and she got betrothed to some ass.
One day, both she and Moe met a young musician, and all three became close friends and both of them fell in love with him.
One day, Moe found out that Mitsuki's Grandmother's betrothal was cancelled and Moe was betrothed instead, whom tried to rape her.
Moe ran away, and saw Mitsuki's Grandmother and the musican kissing. Believing that Mitsuki's grandmother cancelled the betrothal to be together with the musician, Moe slit her own wrist and committed suicide. This was the reason why Mitsuki's Grandmother hated music so much, because it cost her the life of her best friend.
Meroko found out that the musician is really Mitsuki's Grandfather, and tried to kill her, but was stopped by Takuto. Meroko found out that the two didn't get married. Rather, the musician got married to another girl and had a son, Aoi, whom married Mitsuki's mother, Kazuki.
Learning the truth, Meroko visited Mitsuki's Grandmother in Moe's form (looks so cute :) ), where Mitsuki's Grandmother confessed that although she loved the musician, she had also loved Moe. Meroko told her to forget about the past, move on and be happy.
Izumi's Past:
Izumi was hated by his mother, because her boyfriend left after finding out she was pregnant. Izumi wanted to make her mother happy, so one day, he jumpped onto a train track, and was killed when he got hit by a train. The last thing he saw was his mother, watching him and smiling.
But there was one thing that made Izumi different than all Shinigami, he had actually retained all his memories. Decades later, (he, Meroko and Takuto all worked in the same department) he found out that his mother was going to die. Wanting to see and talk to her one last time, he decided to take the assignment himself, but instead of talking to her, he took her soul as soon as she hear him coming through the window, his only words to her, was telling his mother that he became a Shinigami.
During all this time (Izumi was looking for a missing cat with Mitsuki), Izumi remembered his real name, Lio. He then tells his supervisor to leave Mitsuki alone for the time being.
As for Mitsuki's reasons for quitting:
A lunatic is threatening Mitsuki to quit, or else he/she'll force her to. The lunatic sent a bomb through fanmail and hurt Ooshige (and Wakkoji fell in love with her :) ), and during a concert, someone threw a bottle at her, but it was blocked by Takuto. (hehe everyone was wondering why the bottle suddenly changed directions in midair XD). Mitsuki decided to quit afterwards because she didn't want her friends getting hurt because of her.
Aargh, I was hoping to see some sparks between Takuto and Mitsuki in the manga... :(
Well, a few days after Takuto confessed his love for Mitsuki, he embrassed her on her bed (totally freaking her out), telling her that he has no reason for competing with Ecichi, but even so, he woudn't let anyone else be with her.
The manga also goes into more detail about Takuto's past.
Takuto was an orphan just like Mitsuki, and Aoi was like a father to him. When Aoi found out that Kazuki was pregnant, he asked Takuto to name his child, but make sure that it's a girl's name (even though he had no idea whether or not it was a boy/girl XD). Takuto named the baby Mitsuki :)
A few years after Aoi's death, Wakkoji take Takuto to see Mitsuki at the orphanage. Takuto acting like a jerk (kicking away her soccer ball!) asks her about her parents and tells her that his father was a singer. He then tells Mitsuki that if she is ever in trouble to call him, he'll fly over, and protect her with all his power :)
Takuto's death was also different in the manga.
Takuto found out that he had throat cancer, the same disease tha Mitsuki has. Wakkouji performs the operation, and Takuto's life was spared.
However, he found out that he lost his voice, and that Wakkouji knew about it all along. Feeling completely betrayed and feeling that without being able to sing, there's no point in living anymore, he then jumps off the roof of the hospital and commits suicide.
When he 'woke up' he found himself talking to a spirit (who's wearing a dark cloak, with hair that looks suspiciously like Aoi), whom assigns him to work with Meroko as Shinigami.
There's also one interesting tidbit in the manga that wasn't in the anime:
Takuto and Meroko was assigned to watch over Mitsuki on the first day, to prevent her from meeting someone whom is supposedly in the future going to prevent her from dying. Takuto and Meroko thinks that the person is Eichi, but in reality, as the manga goes on, it looks like Takuto will be the one to save her life.
Oh and about Eichi...
Takuto's first assignment was to guide souls from a crashed plane (yes, 'that' plane). There, he met Eichi, whom refused to leave for the afterlife before meeting a certain someone, and disappeared after placing a curse on Takuto. It's not clear what the curse was.

Hehe, now I'm even more fired up to buy the manga! Hmm... It seems like the manga concentrated more on their pasts and her singing career... And I like it! :)
Oh and btw, did the anime came out first or the manga?
Which means to say that Eichi's soul wasn't guided to the afterlife? Then what happened to him? Is his soul is heaven now?
Can you do me a favour? If you did collect the Ribon issues or the manga, can you help me scan the page where Takuto embrassed her on her bed?
Really appreciated the help you have given so far! Arigato desu!
Anyway, I read somewhere that Takuto is only 16 years old when he died. Which means to say that he is only 4 years older than Mitsuki.
I guess I forgot that Takuto wouldn't age while he was dead. I was thinking he was older because he was 12 when Mitsuke was born, and Mitsuke is 12 now. But if he died when he was 16 that would make him 18 at the end of the series.
When he is given his life back at the end they say he has had no memory for two years or something to that effect.
He is still at least 6 years older. I guess that isn't so bad. Okay, I am much more comfortable witht he show now. Thanks! I may have to check out the manga.

Takuto was at least 22-24 when he died.
-He sang for Route: L at age 12
-Kazuki got pregnant a year or two afterwards
Biggest clue:
-Takuto's was a new Shinigami, and his first assignment was to guide the souls of a crashed plane (Eichi). Mitsuki was 10 at the time. So Takuto should be around 22-24 at the time of his death.

Hm, this all sounds really interessting, but somehow I don't like it this way anyways... and actually all these connections between the characters are somehow too much.
It might not be a coincidence at all.
The spirit that met Takuto after his death had hair similar to Aoi(he was cloaked though, so couldn't see his face). He was also the one whom assigned Meroko to work with Takuto (Meroko was Izumi's partner).
He might have arranged all of this to happen.
Just speculation though.
What's a lolicon?
Another way of saying that someone has a lolita complex.
Here's the ages for the shinigami's:
Takuto = 22-24
Meroko = 14-16 (She's 2 years younger than Mitsuki's Grandma. Though her uniform looked like she was in junior high, so aiming at 14)
Izumi - 6-8(!!)

Interesting... So maybe Aoi underneath the cloak! Hmm, but that shdn't be cos Aoi died in a car accident, right?
Or did he purposely did it to join Mitsuki's mom? Hmm... :twitch:

The spirit wasn't a shinigami, just a director.
But why/how should Mitsuki's father gain the power to make all of this happen?
Actually I would have preferred it (especially in the anime) if Takuto were Mitsuki's father and Eichi were still alive.
No idea... :(
Nah... I still support Takuto and Mitsuki! Cos I never really like Eichi in the first place...
Anyway, when my sister and I first watch the anime, we did thought that Takuto was her father too. But in the end, Takuto was a member of L Route. :D
Hi... Does anyone know how many chapters does the first volume have?

I believe that tere are 24 chapters now and I don't think it will end any time soon. There are so far 4 mascot comics of it in japan. You can't check out this site.s-manga.net (http://www.s-manga.net/girls/index.html) It shows the cover and the first page of fullmoon, the story is published by Ribon so it's a big book. You'll have to look for it within all the stories. It's hard to explain... well, just check out the site and see for yourself! Hope I was some help!

I think there are five chapters in the first volume. visittoriyama's world (http://www.toriyamaworld.com/fullmoon/) Although they only have 4 chapters translated, I do believe it has five because I have the second volume and it starts a chapter 6.

Anyway, is Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne a good anime?
It's ok (You'll probably like it, if you like stuff like Sailor Moon), but everybody I know who has read it says that the manga is much better than the anime.

Haha, okie. I like both the anime and manga. Both of them have their good and bad points. :)

Wah... Takuto is quite old for Mitsuki desu! And Mitsuki is only 12 when he confessed! Eeps! And he's about twice her age. :twitch:
Oh well, love can conquer all...
i know im replying to an old post...but correct me if i wrong... isnt the age of the shinigami when they died as a person meaningless? when they are shinigami they take the form of their age mentality. tho izumi was ...what, 8? when he died, he appeared a hell of a lot older as a shinigami [they dont age] as far as i know meroko's age mentality is 16 years..
so even if takuto was 23-24 [or even 50 for that matter] as a shinigami he was 16-17 years so mitsuki's n takuto's relationship is really acceptable..[altho i prefer mitsuki + eichi :P] if u dont count the fact that he's dead n there to take her life away...

Thanks for all the info Village Idiot! I have some volumes of Ribon with the FMwS manga in it but my japanese is not that great and I was really confused who people like Moe were and all... I saw the volumes where we learn about Meroko's past, and also Izumi's...
I loved the anime though. And I also think that like someone said earlier it seems that the shinigamis are more the age they feel like than whatever age they actually died at. I support Mitsuki and Takuto!
I had no idea Mitsuki was so dark though in the manga, and to think I thought the anime was already dark and sad enough.... well at least it has an adorable happy ending ^^ I wonder when the manga will end...
Also, there are 5 volumes in the first manga!
By the way, after finishing watching the anime I also went to look for other stories by Tanemura Arina, and looked into Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. The anime is really not even half as good or close to the manga as it should be.... and though the manga is a bit odd at times it's much better and quite cute, and it's a lot lighter than FMwS... There are only 7 volumes, and there are scanlations for the entire series online if you're interested...
And for whoever mentioned this earlier, Arina's artwork is very detailed but in the original mangas (not scanlations and whatnot) her artwork is quite breathtaking in its detail. I love her style ^^ It's incredibly unique too, compared to everything else out there....
I think that I want to be a singer too but when i watch Full moon it start to make me think that being a singer is not bad i use to sing when i was little I use to sing then i start to give up singing but now i am starting to keep my dream goin again:)

The manga is going to end soon.
The manga is going to end soon.
I'm in hong kong right now and saw vol 7 just arrived at Sogo by air mail. i want to know if this is the end or is there still more?
It's the end.
Frankly, I was disappointed by it (The ending, not the manga itself). It just feels to me that the plans for the ending were changed midway through the series, after the anime created its own version of things.

It was expected, though. I liked the ending. It tied up all loose ends.
Eichi has some major issues though. Why would he haunt her like that?
You would think if he loved her, he would want her to be happy?
Want her to be happy *with him* I'd assume. Being in that state would be enough to drive anyone slightly insane IMO, no matter how much he loved her.

Anyone willing to spoil the last chapter for me? I'm off to college this Sunday, and I'm getting doubtful that it will get translated by then.
You miss a lot just having the last chapter spoilt (Like the whole mess with a certain "Death Master", boy that was a doozy), though I'm not sure where the translations are at this point. Anyway, from memory....
Mitsuki's grown up and is a singer in her own right, Izumi and Meroko are an item, Mitsuki and Takuto kiss in front of her screaming fans at her concert when he appears out of nowhere, I won't spoil the fate or surprise of what was really going on with Eichi...and that's pretty much it.

I can't find a place to download all their Full Moon manga, their site doesn't show them all. They also have a dead link or two..
If you could direct me to a place where I could get the whole thing I'd greatly appreciate it =)
I've tried a couple of times to get it on mirc. Really a pain, good luck getting it. But IRC is your only chance.

I managed to get a torrent from boxtorrents that has the entire collection of manga for Full Moon wo Sagashite. A few volumes or chapters are from other groups but it looks like a complete set.

If anyone else wants it goto http://www.boxtorrents.com/details.php?id=11436
Theres a good amount of seeders lately so it's a good time to grab it.

That's really cool. I don't know if they'll let you have this link up though, since this website is usually a no-no.

Some people talked about the English scanslations in the last few pages of that thread.

It's most likely on the OST (I don't have it)...or you can just use the Eternal Snow instrumental as substitute, though I'm pretty sure something like that is on the OST.

Simple question, just wondering, if you have seen the Full Moon wo Sagashite series, which do you like better? The manga or the anime?
Personally, I feel that it is very hard to choose because the anime and manga have slightly different plots in them, but the anime does give you more.
So I'm not really sure ^_^

I love both! Arinacchi's illustrastions and metaphors are simply breath-taking but so are myco's songs (Mitsuki's seiyuu) in the anime. Takuto is cuter-looking in the anime and a lot less selfish (with Mitsuki) but he is also less affectionate.:( He's not quite as funny and spastic as manga Takuto (manga Takuto is HILARIOUS when he spazzes XD) but anime Takuto is certainly more "cool" in a heroic kind of way. Mitsuki is really adorable in both versions but her Eichi obsession in the manga is a little too much. She has a bit of an issue there...please, send the kid to a shrink! >_>; I prefer anime Meroko over manga Meroko (manga Meroko's MEAN:mad: ) and manga Izumi over anime Izumi. The anime is heart-warming and the manga is so deep...argh I just can't decide. xD I wish the anime had included Nachi, dammit.:heh:
On a last note,
MitsukixTakuto FTW.:D :D :D
(To add to anyone who is bothered by the age difference, I do not think Takuto is going to do more than hug Mitsuki until she turns legal.:heh: Look at him, he's so SHY! ^_^ *points to avatar*)

I think the manga end was much better than the anime end. I would love to see the last chapter of the manga animated.
It certainly wrapped things up nicely but the......the haircut......ARGH NOOOO! X(

Um....wow. .___.
How many times HAVE you read it.
Sadly I haven't read it yet. Didn't have time and now my friend (who has all the volumes) is back in Colorado. Nu!

I was doing some research on Full Moon wo Sagashite because like most people I was angry at the unsatisfiing ending in the anime. I just couldn't except that ending so I looked on the internet and found out that there is a 4 episode OVA that goes after Episode 52 which takes place 3 years after the anime. I am not sure if this is true or not, because my source of information is very shady. I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this rumor? If they can clarify if this is fact or fiction. If anyone knows any info post it here. Im sure everyone would be interested in knowing if there was a sequal after episode 52.
I don't think there is... there's nothing on AniDB ^^
Don't see anything on Google...
Anyways, IMHO the ending in the anime was awesome. MUCH better than the ending in the manga.

I think that there is a mixup with the last Manga chapter which starts with Mitsuki, as a real 16 year old, having debuted again and having a concert on the beach. At that point she thinks that Takuto became a ghost three years before on the night of her operation.
There is an OVA, from what I hear a poor one, but it takes place during the Television series. The Full Moon wo Sagashite Final Live album is supposed to be the final concert and it has sections of dialog that go more in depth than during the anime. The last segmant of dialog takes place some time after episode 52 and has Mitsuki on some type of date with Takuto. Evidently the only memories he has of when he was a shinigami are his memories of Mitsuki.

Chapters 17, 18, and 19 cover their meeting in the present and their history in the past. Her Grandmother finds Meriko moving around in her plushy form and thinks that she is a troll. Being around Mitsuki's grandmother caused her to remember her past when they were best friends and that she killed herself because she thought that Mitsuki's grandmother had betrayed her with the person she loved. That was what had turned Mitsuki's grandmother against music. In the end things are straightened out and Meriko appears before her grandmother in her real human form, Meriko's Shinigami form is different from what she looked like when she was alive, and that allows Mitsuki's grandmother to say her apologies.
