From what I see, I think it goes like this:
1. Soccer/Football
2. Wrestling (even though I think basketball is 2nd, but some other guy said that this is the case)
3. Basketball
4. Rugby
5. Cricket
Thoughts?

I would add boxing to the list... Swimming, too. I guess if you consider weight lifting a 'sport' then it would probably be on the list since most athletes lift (or you could go with powerlifting and body building as the only weight lifting sports... your choice). I think cricket might be higher because I know how popular it is in India, but I don't know if it is as immensely popular as I've heard. I wish more countries gave American football a try :(. It is kind of inaccesible, though.

Yeah, you can change my list up anytime you want. I'd agree that basketball comes in 2nd, as you see the asians, the blacks, the whites, the latinos, all play basketball and soccer too.
And American football I find isn't the greatest of sports, since the equipment factor is there, the fact that there isn't as much skills involved, rather more tactics, strategies and most importantly, conditioning.

I thought we were supposed to guess what worldwide opinion was, not give our own opinion... ie: not a poll.
That said, I have no idea. Soccer on top, probably.
1. Football/Soccer
2. Rugby
3. Snooker
4. Tennis

Sorry, closing thread because as it stands it's pretty meaningless and all it's going to do is generate list of various sports without any reall discussion.
Now if you can phrase the thread so it
(i) properly defines what's meant by popular
and
(ii) encourage actual discussion and not just produces lists
then it might be allowed.
For a start you don't even specify if you mean popular in term of participation sports or spectator sports.
And I beleive fishing is actually the most "popular" participation sport :)
