Gotta be one of the funniest episodes upto now in the series, great to see some of the characters having a good time, Kuuya was perfectly anaimated - shall post a more in-depth review later~

Heh, looks like we'll be getting you know who in the next episode & can't wait to see peoples views on the Oboro/twins scene. <3

Episode 17 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/07/24/utawarerumono-17/)

Started out a bit slow, but ended up being quite a funny episode with the twins and then with Touka.

God, now i just HOPE they really turned the twins into females just for the anime, otherwise Oboro is now officially gay! (and will need some remedy for his... "sitting' problems" :heh: )

Touka looks great too. And besides Kuuya, Karura is hitting on Hakuoro too?! Lucky bastard...

Poor Benawi is not having the same lucky... being forced to do all the hard work in sign those documents instead Hakuoro. :p

I hope the subs will be released soon!!

These two little fellas are more dangerous than you think. Look again the 8ht screenshot. Boys or girls, they were not just pouring sake to Oboro (different color). Probably they drugged him! :heh:

that's not sake. that's erruru's medicine for oboro's hangover. it was originally green but changed to that color b/c oboro was complaining about the bitterness or something and then eruru added honey

Dear God, I've just looked at the pics and here's also hoping the twins are female.

Only in people's imaginations

Not really, it's been done before. It could happen. And unlike KKM (bishie show), Uta was originally a hentai game so it was heavilly geared towards males. Which is why I understand that Hakuoro ("the authors??" :D ) only took Touka and Karura for facing Niue, its for harem sake. ;)

Maybe they'll do what FMP The Second Raid had done, turning the twins from males (novel) into hot females (animes) for audiences sake.

Note that in the FMP manga, the twins are also girls (and they look nothing like the anime characters, mind you - as you can see for yourself: 1 (http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/412/fullmetalpanicsigma63jb5.jpg), 2 (http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/9499/fullmetalpanicsigmac01p17tc2.jpg)). It's just that both Kyoto Animation and the mangaka might have found it a little spicier rather than keep them male. Wonder if there'll also be a gender bender for the UM manga, since there is one being published right now, right?

Unfortunately, alot of people has had the assumption that the Anime will follow the game.

If you have played the game you know they missed out alot of things, the anime is significantly different.

For someone who has not played the game, it is very easy for them to assume the twins are female, at this moment in time the anime has done NOTHING to change that preception.

And I suspect it could be easier for Kyoani to leave it as that.

As long as they do not provide any evidence to disapprove this, it is safe to say they are female.

Well, whatever the truth about the gender of the twins is, I can safely say the position they were in with Oboro was rather...interesting. :D

On another note,
Seems that the story about Hakuoro's real identity and past is given a little more attention as well, though it wasn't the focus as usual. Still, I'm glad we could learn at least a little more about what he might be, even if its just some names.

I had always suspected that after SHaruhi, many would be suffering from withdrawal symptons and associating KyoAni with any anime that is good, or trying to find other anime that is similar to SHaruhi. :P

Tabitha is a Yuki-clone. Shion is a Mikuru-Tsuraya-hybrid. Etc...

This episode was full of high points. The sperm twins getting Oboro drunk and having their way with him (was this part in the game, too?**), all of their expressions, Eruruu's tail going all spastic when Hakuoro complemented her, Touka being cute, drunk Karura hitting on Hakuoro.... <3

Not the most overpowering harem i seen but one that gets along the best. No bickering and personality clashes for Hauoro to deal with.I know it's overpowering me. To be honest, until now, I've never felt an ounce of jealousy towards any character regarding his harem. Seriously. But... this... this is just going overboard! Touka is a goddess, Karura is simply amazing, and now, he gets this beautiful, young blonde.

It's just utterly ridiculous! XD

...

Anyways, the episode was fun, but looking back, it didn't really accomplish anything. The characters have lately been retreating to their character archetypes more and more when earlier on, they were each given a fair amount of attention to their thoughts and development. Hakuoro has been the only character getting any attention for the last handul of episodes, and it's a little bothersome. Still, this episode was entertaining enough, so I'm fine for now. The next episode seems to promise some Karura development anyways.

What a great episode, made a lot more sense when watching it subbed - though even without subs, its easy to understand just how much Oboro gets owned in that episode. First from Dorii & Gura, then Eruru, then Yuzuha.. the list goes on. & you just gotta love Touka in this episode..^^;;

I really enjoyed seeing Kuuya animated, & hearing what she had to say, so cute. I'd easily say she's one of the cutest characters in the story next to Yuzuha.

As i said before, next episode is where all the fun begins~

Oh man, this episode was pretty hardcore ownage. Genjimaru, for one, is officially the most badass character in this show. No, I haven't played the game, nor do I know about it at all. But I have a feeling hes going to rock some crotches in the later episodes. Heres my pretty accurate prediction of what's going to happen:A small band of virgins: Oh no! The enemy has surrounded us, they're at least 500,000 strong. What will we do?

Genjimaru then flies in, shoots the 500,00 enemies a cold stare. Then all of them kill themselves because they figure they're screwed anyway, suicide is a lot more painless.

Small band of virgins: Oh, our hero!

Bow chica bow wow

I was then wondering why he seemed familiar, then it hit me!

http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/8513/vlcsnap5322602wk0.th.png (http://img108.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vlcsnap5322602wk0.png)

So at that point I was like holy sh*t. This series is going to stomp more ass than it already has after we see Genjimaru rock some crotches.

Beside male dont have tales in this anime ^^Actually, they do. We already discussed this in a previous thread. Men do indeed have tails in this show. From the Episode 4 thread. To add onto what's already posted above me, this image is from Episode 5. Don't worry: it isn't a spoiler. It's completely out of context, innocuous and cropped.

Those are all men from the village. As you can see, some have tails and some don't. I think it depends on the species or clan that they're from (as it is in nature).

It was good to see some more cute stuff in this show.

I really liked Eruru's part, both the tail wagging and the pouting face.

(Oboro had to pay for his comment about the taste of the hangover medicine - watch your mouth next time fool)

Toukas Dere side was overboard. Its hard to believe such a serious fighter would completely lose it in the face of a bunny :)

This was the funniest and cutest episode yet! Touka can be so cute! :D

This episode made the twins look so much more feminine too.I'm convinced in the anime they're both female. Now if we could only get a hint of cleavage or something to confirm it.

Also interesting is Kuuya. It seems she has no confidence in her leadership skills and was hoping Hakuoro would give her a special power to make everything right. It also shows that Hakuoro and the country of Tusukuru must have gotten quite a reputation after defeating Yue.

The highlights/golden moments of the episode for me were the following,

..) Benawi breaking his brush when a servant brought more documents.

..) Oboro getting defeated by his sister and Aruruu. He just can't win against any named character, can he?

..) The exchanged conversation between Hakuoro and Oboro after Eruruu made her "Oh woe am I" speech.

..) The cracking sound the bowl made after Eruruu poured honey into it...

..) Touka losing it over the 'bunny'.

Cheers.

See, now there arrives a Mikyuum. Then the scene quickly changes to the kitty. And if I'm correct, kitty say: "Do I smell,.. food!" ...because Aruruu arrived not too long ago with the honeycomb. So now you have this Mikyuum practically rolling around in the sticky honey hands of the girls. What you didn't see:

Oboro: "No, don't... ah!!! Bad Kitty, Bad Kitty! Spit it out now! Spit it out!"
Aruruu: "(Gives Oboro the left over honeycomb from the bag) Here, use this."

(Kitty spits out Mikyuum in direction of Oboro; projectile-like Mikyuum knocks Oboro out to the ground. Mikyuum then seen running to the hands of Aruruu. Then it picks up from where Oboro wants Aruruu to hand over the Mikyuum, and Aruruu makes smart-assed comment that he got no honeycomb. Aruruu pets big kitty, as big kitty enjoys honeycomb snack.

Touka after shows up, and Oboro lets the topic go in fear of what Touka would do to him should she lean of what had just happened. This is where you find Oboro over on his knees, then picks up to to that moral thing where Yuzuha doesn't want to take one life for the other, or something like that. For Oboro, kind of like one of those animes where a giant pan or kettle falls on him from out of nowhere,.. but happens again, and again, and again. Not sure exactly what happened after, but I think the knocked out Oboro is then seen being dragged back to the castle by the twins.)

Actually, I didn't play the game. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

This episode was a very relaxing, mostly humorous episode - a followup of episode 16, if you might say. The parts with Kuuya (can finally speak her name! lol) and Hakuoro weren't too shabby. I felt the rate of speaking was a little fast, either because they wanted to get all the "in the beginning" speeches done with asap, or Kuuya is just a very fast speaker.

The humor parts people have already stated, so I won't go into anymore details.

9/10. Not perfect for reasons I go into the spoilers for. You have been warned. >_>

The part that didn't work for me in this episode was the scene between Yuzuha and Oboro. I'm sensing a deteriorating relationship between the two the moment Yuzuha said she didn't like what Oboro was planning for the little mouse. If that's the feeling we were meant to take in, then that's ok, it worked. What bugs me was when she said, "I don't understand." Here's a loving brother (misguided in decision-making as he may be) struggling to cure his sister of her blindness and heart attacks and what other medical conditions she might have. She knows this. We know this. Everybody does. Then she contradicts the facts by saying she doesn't understand what her brother means. Perhaps she didn't know what she was talking about, that it was a means to disagree with her brother. But she knows FULL well what Oboro meant. That part didn't settle with me.

Furthermore, the impact of Yuzuha saying she didn't like that side of Oboro was shoved aside too quickly in my opinion. I don't have a problem with the scene as whole. The problem is how long we got to fully absorb her words. It felt like a major plot point in the series that we forget the moment Kamyu runs in 10 seconds later.

All in all, spendid show. Just one scene I had particular beef with. The final seconds of the show hints a spy (a rather one at that. It rose over the trees!) and return to battle-excitement - if the preview didn't, that is. Also in the last scene with Kuuya and Hakuoro, I didn't see a point to dissolving to a shot of Hakuoro standing on top of the rock while she was telling her tale. Oh well. :|

I really do find it to be a great show, too. Out of all the shows I got into this past spring season, I am enjoying this one and Ouran High Host Club the most. Haruhi Suzumiya is my 3rd best pick, another really good show.

As everyone said before, this was just a wonderful episode. They made Touka beyond cute in the episode, and Karura kept staring and smirking at her. This episode just had so many good points in it.

Kuuya mentioned that her tribe had some sort of secret power where they could stand up the world. I wonder if it will be a dark power, which Hakuoro and the gang will have to defeat?

Next week's episode looks like we will be seeing Karura's people.

The end of this episode with the dark monster is interesting. I wonder if that is just one beast, or one of many?

All the female characters in the episode just owned. They pretty much pawned every single guy they faced.

What bugs me was when she said, "I don't understand."

My guess was she meant, "I don't understand why you would do this if you truly care for me. You must realize that taking an innocent life to save me would also destroy me." Well, that's my interpretation of it.

Also in the last scene with Kuuya and Hakuoro, I didn't see a point to dissolving to a shot of Hakuoro standing on top of the rock while she was telling her tale. Oh well. :|

I guess in this scene, Kuuya left already, and Hakuoro is contemplating her words, hence standing there staring out in the distance.

I think that she meant it in the sense that she was puzzled of such a harmful intent coming from her brother. Not that she didnt understand the reason why he wants to kill it, she couldnt accept/comprehend his sudden bloody intention.

I liked that scene anyway, felt that they were finally giving some focus (even if a little) on the side characters. And looks like next episode will fulfil my wish to see some Karura development. Hopefully.

Also in the last scene with Kuuya and Hakuoro, I didn't see a point to dissolving to a shot of Hakuoro standing on top of the rock while she was telling her tale. Oh well. :|
IMO it shows that Kuuya has somehow become very very special to Hakuoro~ for him to be thinking of what she said after she had gone. I think a major link between them will be revealed before this series ends. (And we know its not sex.)

Everyone's focusing on Touka!! Dont forget Aruruu.. she was the epitome of cuteness with her reaction at seeing Gacha, and then saying No in her aruruu-way, and then cheerfully saying that Oboro had no honey. You know, I'm 95% sure that she would have handed Gacha over if Oboro did have honey.

Nice episode, but I would not say its the best. For a peacetime episode, still lacking in insightful development of characters; I think the last episode did better.

Hmm.. with yesy's sub, has any noticed that the character voices has kind of deterioated? Especially Hakuoro's the sound quality sounds too sharp; almost screechy.. I dont think its VA, sounds like the encoding itself. Dont know if its the show or its my speakers. Anyone?

Especially when she was waiting her turn for the bunny-thing to cuddle around her, and when it ran away and her expression was so sad.

Haha, now Oboro has been defeated by every single member in Hakuoro's team:

-Hakuoro punched him
-Benawi owned him several times
-Kurou beat him once
-Touka beat the shit out of him
-The twins got him drunk and date-raped him
-Eruruu made him a disgusting medicine
-Aruruu called his bluff
-The sheer force of Yuzuha's moemoe disagreement knocked him down
-I lied. Karura hasn't even touched him, but I think we all know what would happen if she does

My guess was she meant, "I don't understand why you would do this if you truly care for me. You must realize that taking an innocent life to save me would also destroy me." Well, that's my interpretation of it.

That would make sense actually. Picture Yuzuha not knowing the complete truth of her brother, that Oboro is a person who takes lives. In a way, having that knowledge could devastate Yuzuha, and having mousie kick the bucket with Oboro's katana would add further salt to the wound. At the same time, that theory doesn't stand much ground; where does she think her brother goes all the time? Certainly not picking flowers. :eyebrow: There's no way for certain to know what she thinks of her brother, but from what we get from episode 17, it's not a very positive one.

I guess in this scene, Kuuya left already, and Hakuoro is contemplating her words, hence standing there staring out in the distance.
IMO it shows that Kuuya has somehow become very very special to Hakuoro~ for him to be thinking of what she said after she had gone. I think a major link between them will be revealed before this series ends.

Right, I just thought of that. First, Hakuoro was relieved to end the conversation the first night. Then, I suppose after preoccupying himself with the story of gods and such, he wanted to know more. Since Kuuya can babble on about it, he must find her facinating now. Contemplating on her words while standing on the rock makes total sense. But if you take away the visuals and just listen to it, the vocals blend so perfectly that you wouldn't know the difference. That's probably where my confusion took root.

Hmm.. with yesy's sub, has any noticed that the character voices has kind of deterioated? Especially Hakuoro's the sound quality sounds too sharp; almost screechy.. I dont think its VA, sounds like the encoding itself. Dont know if its the show or its my speakers. Anyone?

I've noticed it towards the end of episode 17 and a vast majority of episode 16. I have the RAW version of the episodes as well and they have no audio playback issues. My guess is Yesy fansubs forgot to calibrate the audio levels when exporting to AVI because it sounds like some of the voices when they are raised hit the yellow or red zone.

Haha, now Oboro has been defeated by every single member in Hakuoro's team:

I've noticed this too. And contrary to how you might feel, I'm starting to pity and empathize with Oboro. If I get nothing but beat downs and negativity everyday, and if my sister hates me, I'd probably start overdrinking too myself. :/

Aruruu doesn't drink it quite that often. I'll drop the sore throat thing if you know what I mean. But, for hangover. Because somehow someone gave Aruruu the idea that mixing honey with alcohol would be an rather tasty thing to down. Thus when Aruruu came to the doc the next day to help relieve that "headache," well, after hearing Aruruu's story, hehe... Think of it as one of those not too happy cures whipped up by the doc. Not that honey is supposed to take the bitterness out. It's got to taste bad. Supposably hasn't been a problem since. ...well, for Aruruu anyway.

The part that didn't work for me in this episode was the scene between Yuzuha and Oboro.

She was trying to save the little rabbit's lifo, thats all.
She know if she didnt use harsh words, he'd have skewered it in no time.
Plus, I don't recall her saying she didnt understand him- she said simply responded to his request to "understand" (basically accept) that the gachatara had to be killed for its liver and she refused to do so. She was not playing dumb.

Benawi did mention that it brought luck and protection. Since no one knows much about it, I bet it has really powerful magic which it will use to protect/save Aruruu someday.

@BlackCatXIII. It looks like Aruruu is the new master. She is the beastmaster, afterall, being able to talk to and understand animals. Was it ever mentioned how she had the ability to understand animals, or did she just suddenly had those skills one day?

Your guess is correct: he was stating the price of the little mikyuumu rabbit monster: you can tell when oboro flinched back he said "what the hell kind of price is that!" (very high, I'm thinking)

All the females had attached to it, and Oboro was still holding out hope for the liver, so Hakuoro agreed to pay it.

I'm not very sure, but as far i can tell, that began in episode 1 and 2. That was what i understood:

Mutikapa-sama was the king of the forest and guardian of Yanayun-kami, god of the forest. In episode 1, Nuwangi destroyed the altar for Yanayun-kami, bringing the rage of Mutikapa, what started to atack the village.

In episode 2, Tsukuruu said when she was young that happened too. Her older sister, who had the power of a Kamunagi (a priestess), was given to the forest as a sacrifice in order to calm down Yamayun-kami. She became the Yaanamauna ("Mother of the Forest"), the one considered linked to the forest and protected
by the Yaanayun-kami.

The way Aruruu acted, she thought maybe Eruruu would be offered as a sacrifice, too. Remember the way she hugged Eruruu's hands. She would never allow that.

Thanks to Hakuoro and co., Mutikapa was beaten. But Aruruu was missing. Aparently, she went to the forest all by herself, maybe trying to calm down the god of the forest as the new sacrifice instead her older sister. There she found Mukkuru.

I think at that time she became the new Yaanamauna ("Mother of the Forest"), priestess of Yamayuno-kami. That's why Mukkuru - the new guardian of Yaamayuno-kami - obey her and she can understand what animals talk.

He's pretty much forced to pay for it because once the animal got a name, it would forever be bound to the person who gave it the name.

In any case... I'm kind of annoyed they put so few Kuuya scenes in. We could've used some red light district and "good in the bedroom" action ;o Not to mention how a somewhat important character was supposed to have been introduced by now. :/

funny episode no matter how you look at it. i know i dont need to say but the whole situation with Oboro and the twins was just too funny. and after much speculation on their gender i have reached my conclusion THEY DONT HAVE ONE or they are both

Eruruu was cute as usual did anyone notice how every time Hakuoro praised her skill she tail was wagging like a hundred miles per hour to match the speed of her mixing bowl i almost died. My girl Karura was drunk AGAIN and she was totally hitting on Hakuoro she is so funny i have enjoyed the series more every since she joined the cast. Should guessed that Hakuoro's little masked visitor was a girl Hakuoro attracts women like a pot head to taco bell at 2am.

I am not sure if i heard right but the guy that comes and gets Hakuoro did she say he was also an Evinkuruga?

Out of everything the part that made this episode for me was Touka making this face. http://www.badongo.com/pic/246449

Next episode looks good seems like Hakuoro and the rest of the gang are either helping are starting a revloution in the country where she came from. IT would make sense if she was slave there must be more like her she would want to go back and save them she might have asked Hakuoro for help

No wonder she thinks Hakuoro is also Jewish, who else can appear suddenly making barren mountainous desert fertile, overthrow the local kleptocracy and own invading countries much larger than itself:p
I'm not curtain about the twins’ gender but I think they are male. So that makes any guys that have thought dirty things about them gay too, but which is nothing to be ashamed of since even my entire flight of basics was heard singing "It's raining men" while showering in the bathroom together :heh:.

:heh: .

Kuuya "never speak his name infront of me again!" - 1 second later "witsarnemitea was a false god?" :D

Ok percisly when Kuuya Amururineuruka took off her face coverings - I saw sakura-chan from ts chron.. the same faces seen in OP song. Changed after she started moving around and talking.

As the twins go for oboro there when he was talking about 'when it comes to these two, oh god' part. both of those twins appear to have 'female' hair styles and their names also ended with 'female' like letters - Dorii, Gura.
both certainly looked female as they were pictured laying there covered with the blanket.

when they are listening to oboro explain, they both gleefully put their hands up and their eyes radiate - have to be females here.

I sure hope for oboro they are. who knows maybe they can change forms as needed hehe.

BTW, awsome graphics and exceptional action. there is lots of movement all over. nice not having a all static background.

Kuuyu's dialogue with Hakuoro made me look up the earlier episodes with Urutori. It seems that there is an ideological difference between Kuuyu's country and that of those under the winged people domain. Even Benawi follows Wita~'s teachings.

Not only that, but when I went to examine the OP, Kuuyu appears in the "we're the villains" shot( along with a glowing-red-eyed silent winged guy( right-hand man of Yue/Niwe)). Genji is there too, along with the leader of the winged people. Some of them are going to appear in Ep18, judging from the preview, which only leaves one mystery guy. Overall, quite a nice and relaxed episode to deliver us from all the worries and angst that built during the Shikeripetim arc.

Yuzuha's voice is soothing to the point that I felt a bit sleepy.

For being a girl certainly Kuuya acts like a little boy, who can be easily impressed with tattle-tales.
From whom or where did she listen to all those rumors or bad stories about Hakuoro?

Oboro's bad day flow consistently through most of the episode.
His hangover from passing out cold along with the twins :D , having no other choice to comply Hakuoro in gulping Eruruu's misfit and mismatched remedy, and to top his great weakness- being hated by his little sister due wanting to skewer Gachatara for its liver.

And not even mentioning Touka whose ego regressed to spoiled, little girl wanting to keep on playing and cuddling Gachatara.

And with the "spying" long ago, be that if it holds true to be what that really was, probably not gone unchecked, as Benawi probably already has his eye on him. ...Which this merchant as well would likely know. That's an interesting observation, and it seems to make sense. Now, it would be even more of a shocker if the secret power that Kuuya mentions is actually found or related to Kamyu somehow. I actually want to see more of Kamyu's story now, when I think about it.

Yep, that would happen. As for conquering the world by marriage, well, I cant exactly see him getting married to Niwe... :p

If the ruler isnt female, hakuro can always hope there is a princess to marry instead...

If there is none then, he always have demon mode as a backup...:heh:

So that meant genjimaru will hve to face all of hakuaro's fighters...
That would make for a very interesting scene.

For being a girl certainly Kuuya acts like a little boy, who can be easily impressed with tattle-tales.
From whom or where did she listen to all those rumors or bad stories about Hakuoro?
She is quite young, if you haven noticed :) Does fit her, age- and gender-wise. In anycase, she does go on and on like an excited little girl.

I wouldnt mind cuddling them actually... think of it as cuddling Shippou of Inuyasha; a little ruffling of fur here, a little tail playing there. Just dont let them get you drunk.

Carbucle is a GF form Final Fantasy 8. It is rabbit like creature with a jewel in the middle of it is forehead. When you summon it, it will jump out of the ground and cast reflect on everyone. Prety useless in combat but got some nice junction abilities.

Um... no... Carbuncle is also the term given to a mythical beast reportedly sighted in the Americas by early Spanish conquistadors. Although no firm eyewitness accounts are available, they have been described as small creatures, either birds or mammals. It is certain that they wear gems on their foreheads; such gems come from the brains of dragons. According to myth, dragons have inside their brain a liquid that crystallizes into a solid gem when they die. According to superstition, it is good luck to catch a carbuncle. Originally spelt "Carbunkel".

Just FYI, all summons in FF games as well as any RPGs, are based off of mythology of the real world. Anyways, great episode, it seems like its jumping back into action again quite quickly.

Oh, Kuuyu is not a bad guy, If you've played the adventure game, you'd know that shes a good guy.

'Tis true. Hey, I'm straight, but I have no problem admitting to how cute they are. :p Plus, I have a weakness for catgirls and dog girls and catboys and dog boys. They sometimes refer to it as "Mimi" characters, mimi being Japanese for ears, and this refers to anime characters that have a few animal-type traits, such as cat, dog, or bunny ears, animal-type tails, and wings, and so forth. Think of characters like Aisha from Outlaw Star or Inuyasha, or...most of the main characters of Utawarerumono. :heh: I love anime characters of this type.

Well Flay wasn't really a villain.... just a really disturbed girl. Ilya becomes friendly later on. Now that girl from Wind, on the other hand, really creeped me out later in the series.

Ilya was too cute to take seriously as an evil villain and Lucy was as much a victim as those she killed. Kakuzawa was the real evil villain in Elfen Lied.

How about Shion from Higurashi?

Btw, how young is Kuuya? She looks no older than 12 from what I can tell. Wouldn't that sort of be "rocking the cradle" for Hakuoro if she joins his harem and expand his empire?

Well way back when, As soon as a girl is able to conceive a child she is married. Due to short life expectancy from war, plague and famine, it was common for a girl as young as ten to be married and having children. It was only until the last 100 and some years that people started to set an age (in america) for sexual relations. Globally though, 16 seems to be the O.K. age, but 18 is better, sorta mentality.

Hmmm... ages in Utawarerumono? Let's see...

Obviously Aruruu is the youngest of them all. I remember i saw in someplace - maybe in a game spoiler - Hakuoro thought Kamyuu is around 2 or maybe 3 years older than Aruruu. And she is A LOT well endowed compared to Aruruu. Heck, she even beat Eruruu! :D So she must be a teen (with some raging hormones :heh: ) and Aruruu a preteen.

As for Dorii & Guraa, they're probably on a age still can be confused as boys or girls. Yet they can fight, so they're probably a little older than Aruruu. All in all, in my opinion, they must be:

GIRLS
*Aruruu = 10-12
*Kamyuu = 14-15
*Yuzuha = 16
*Kuuya = 17-18
*Eruruu = 18-19
*Touka = 21-22
*Kakura = 24-25
*Urutorii = 25-27
*Sopokku = 28-30

BOYS
*Hakuoro = 24-25
*Oboro = 18-19
*Benawi = 28-30
*Kurou = 31-33
*Nuwangi = 19-20
*Teoro = 34-37

NOT SURE YET (I.M.O., they're hard Gay boys :p )
*Dorii & Guraa = 13~14

That's just my opinion. I have no clues except those i quoted. ;)

Hmm... agree on Aruruu and Hakuoro, knock off two years from Kuuya and Eruruu. Not sure about the garchers, since they are young in appearance, but they are archers, so I guess I'll settle with your guess. Don't care too much about the others.

All the age guesses are suspect in that we have no idea what the average lifespan is in this world nor when people are assumed to be "of age" ... nor do we know if the nutrition alters when they enter puberty. Prior to the industrial age, it was very common for boys and girls to couple up as early as 12-14.... in hunting societies, as soon as the male succeeded in his first hunt, in agricultural settings it might be delayed longer because the labor was needed on the parent's farm.

Many of the ancient peoples you read about were in their teens or early 20s ... very few lived past 40. I'd be surprised if Teoro was more than 30-35 given the pre-Edo/Ainu/DarkAge-like setting.

Also.. this is a fantasy setting and there are some aspects more in the vein of science fiction I understand this is actually set in the far far future after a good deal of genetic manipulation because of some terrible war so pretty much all bets are off. Hell, the average lifespan might be 200 and no one hits puberty until 50.... :)

Whoa, Vexx, definately emphasive that that is a major spoiler by giving a bigger warning. I read it, and it sounds like the story is going to get much more interesting, but for people who don't know the storyline of the whole series, don't read that spoiler, it is a biggie. :)

Now they tell me

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Unless (or until) it's explained through the story, I don't rack my brain trying to figure out when/where stories take place. It doesn't really have much impact on the development of the characters, although it can heavily effect the plot.

Nevertheless, don't read that spoiler. It's a freaking A-bomb.

I've heard of that spoiler elsewhere yet D don't see how it make that much of a difference. It's like Phantasy Star III's plot twist, sort of--

You find out that your world is a gigantic spaceship, even though the rest of the game is a medievalish type background. But the futuristicness isn't that much of a spoiler isn't much of a spoiler, since the first character to join you is a cyborg.

Just need to say as a girl I am:

You guys are probably tired of hearing about Oboro and the twins by now but still. I enjoy in some exstend shounen-ai, but this was quite a shock! I mean, the twins made their master drink so much, took off their own AND his clothes and jumped to bed naked together... Kinda nasty. Either way if the twins are girls or boys (I belive they are boys though). And they have aboulutly no respect for their master for doing so. *laughs*

But still, some change of space from the overload of girls and undertones of shoujo-ai was very okay for me.

But I can't imagine a show for my aduience (girls) when suddenly three girls jumps in the same bed naked. I would go like "wtf? Isn't this a show for girls to enjoy pretty boys with eachother"?
