So errr will 7 episodes be enough to fully cover both the war and the final confrontations between the last boss and Hakuro?

Renegade334

I think it's possible. After all this is the final arc (or at least the penultimate one leading to the finale) and it should be possible to cram everything in seven episodes. The only thing I wonder is whether we'll get the full-action treatment (since what will follow shortly should be quite action-packed or so I believe) or if we're going to get a greater focus on the future flashbacks that should explain who Hakuoro is...and it's no simple matter. It'd more or less take half an ep telling the tales behind UM and show the truth behind certain characters...

Bah, let's wait and see.

At any rate ep20 should be quite interesting to watch judging from the preview.:D

(^) Well if they managed to get this far they'd better have enough.

For me, I'm just looking forward to the start to the final arc; or like Renegade says, the episode leading up to the final arc (Finally!). [btw Renegade, thats the first I'm seeing of Crytek's Crysis. Looks so goood.]

Renegade334

Well, this time I'm expecting, no, hoping for something that'd look like a major conflagration especially since there should be an escalation to THE finale, and if you know what I'm thinking about, I'm waiting for the heavies to stomp their way here and give us a show that'd make those Star Wars mechas blush. :D

Well, one can only hope, right?

If it's going to happen then we really will have a fitting prelude to THE battle. *rubs hands together*

[@Lost: Yup, had a heck of a time finding the render and creating a fitting bg for this banner. BTW, the requirements (even minimal) for the game are incredibly high (with something like XP/Vista only, DX9/10 only, 1,5GB RAM and 6GB HDD needed, etc. Not for lightweights).]

Episode 20 Screencaps and Summary (http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2006/08/14/utawarerumono-20/)

Sakuya was great, stole the show for me. The Kamyu part kind of felt a little out of place with the rest of the story, but it wasn't too big a deal. As for those giant armors...dang they're good at making a bloody mess of everything...

Okay, I don't know a word that was said; lots of complicated dialogue in there, but,

So Kunekamun was invaded, and Kuuya and those two other guys basically annihilated the whole invading army. And after her first experience with fighting and killing, she's basically getting high off the whole thing and going on a Hitler-like rampage across the world?

That's what it seems like, currently.

Skane

Just watched Ep20, and most of the dialogue flew over my head. :heh:

With the end of this episode, it marks the appearances of all the people in the OP's "We're the NPCs" panshot.

It also sets a new record in NPC lifespan, beating the previous contender( the Stoned Flower-Petal-Tossing Emperor). He got split into half in like what... within 5 minutes of his debut appearance? :p

I take back what I said about Swonkas being a free-frag in the Ep19 thread. ;)

Looking forward to the future episodes... is that a base transformation I see in the Ep21 preview? :D I'll laugh a lung out if the winged-people's base turns into a mecha or something. I wonder if there will be an Oni-Hakuoro vs Mecha showdown? That should be quite a sight to see.

Twas a royal PITA to make a .gif of it and keep it under 1.5mb for ImageShack to accept it. Regardless, it has been done. Enjoy.

(It's 1.44mb, so you'll need to let the picture load first in order to for it to animate smoothly)
PS: This is only part of the preview.

Haven't screencap this much for an animated .gif since Ep14, where Touka was slicing and dicing( you should know which scene).

Cheers.

Yippee for you. Thanks a bunch, I was wondering what it was all about. :D

BTW, here's an excerpt from Omniscient's half-completed summary:

In any case, Kuuya wants to talk to Hakuoro about giving him a mistress. This surprises Eruru so much that she yells and falls backwards, alerting the others to her presence. After Eruru gets introduced, Kuuya returns to talking about a mistress, specifically Sakuya (much to Sakuya’s own surprise). Kuuya claims that Sakuya is skillful in bed, but what she actually means is that Sakuya is skillful at making a bed.
ROFL. Looks like someone seriously needs to have a chat with Kuuya and inform her of what bedroom matters are truly about.

I think Kuuya wants to be as "strong" as Hakuoro so she thinks that conquering the world will show him how strong she is. And she's always lamented, I think, about how she's just a little girl and doesn't give off the impression of being strong or charismatic.

I think it's sort of like a case of someone trying too hard to live up to their role model. :)

She is not evil per se,
But she takes her compatriots' safety a little bit too close to heart, but it can't be helped seeing how close her country got to being invaded, had it not been for the Av Kamu power suits. Nevertheless, she is a bit too gullible on that topic and was more than likely indirectly compelled to go on a widespread conquest by a certain winged person...
You also need to take into account what she said to Hakuoro when she first met him and explained what the Kanneietai were and what the Shakukoporus had to endure.

I am back from vacation and eager to post! :frustrated:

In terms of plot advancement, all I can say is "WOW!" Utawarerumono is drawing towards its end and they're not holding anything back. I have to say that this episode kept its pace fairly well and took me on a ride more thrilling than all the other episodes previously.

Sakuya is a character unlike any that we've seen. Unlike Derihourai or Kuuya, she comes flat out as clumsy and full of spunk, stutters on words, light on her feet (or at least defies gravity) and bursts in tears faster than you can pronounce "Amuruineuruka". A total comedy relief. And the fun didn't stop when Kuuya insisted that they talk about...rather perverted things. Whether it is about intercourse or the red-light district, I wasn't able to get that. As usual, all you need is a dose of Hakuoro to defuse a tense situation. But you can totally tell that Eruruu and Sakuya, assistants to the emperor, are the same in many respects. Small world. lol

The 10% of the people who have played the game through and through will probably have no problem with the portion between Aruruu and Kamyu. The other 90% will probably keep asking yourselves, "why did she go vampire on Aruruu? there were no hints leading to any this." As Kamyu cries and embraces Hakuoro with an explanation (or questions. I didn't understand this scene completely either but I know her black wings is why people look down on her and she hates it), we are led to understand her plight and sympathize with what she is going through. Personally, despite the exceptionally well-done vocals by Kugimiya Rie and the well drawn scene by the lake, I felt the overall aim of this scene was thrown in too fast and left the question of her vampire act unanswered. This may be for the best, as we probably will get another glimpse of it in the future, but I felt that, if you were to know nothing of the game and watch this series as your only info of Utawarerumono, this part will come as a "huh?" too quick.

It's a character development scene for Kamyu that, as a stand-alone scene by itself, was done exceptionally well. We learn how sensitive she is to the value of friendship. I certainly felt that way as a child. When I felt I broke a thread of trust in a friendship, I got pretty emotional too. Since I can relate with what Kamyu is going through, it's probably why I "enjoyed" this scene so much.

Everything is all fun and games until the 2nd half of the story. Then the show turns 180 and I'm just "oh...my...god". Not only is it a battle with mechs (which can seem totally out of place to the overall fantasy of Utawarerumono), but it's a messy battle. The producers certainly got some education starting with the anime intern day at episode 14 and made serious...serious changes in their style. Body parts (well drawn body parts, that is), blood, people ripped to shreads...all uncensored, all of it going so fast that you will not be prepared for it at all. Believe me, I almost barfed.

Certainly, Kuuya feels a kind of regret to killing an enemy emperor with her own hands. What she does not realize (but her advisors do at least) is that this is dragging the entire world into involvement. Country leaders are interacting with one another for protection, from fear, for a desparate ply for peace. The preview for episode 21 certainly leads to that as well.

Our anonymous winged antagonist is back, and he's got a friend. A blue haired male dressed in black robes and piercings in his ears. Totally looks like the rebellious, no-nonsense, can (and will) stab you in the back type. And he certainly plays the role well. He has that maniacal laugh that's more human and tolerable than Niwe but shows an even more heartless joy to manslaughter. This guy creaps me out so much that I'm going to enjoy hating him. His plans with a dead emperor split in two (the close-up scared me) can't be good.

This episode gets a 10/10. It is one of those episodes that successfully filled me with all kinds of emotion - good and bad. I laughed, I pitied, I got completely grossed out planting my face in front of the screen with my jaw wide open, and I shutter at the potential of our new villian. He is not a Niwe; he is much worse than Niwe. He definately is similar to Henri Ducard from Batman Begins (2005) played by Liam Neeson: clever, powerful, bloodthirsty for all the right (and wrong) reasons. He is going to freak you out.

Team Iwasa, keep up the freaking good work.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This episode half-shocked me in terms of how they reworked all nitty-gritty bits with the characters. I wouldn't necessarily call it dangerous or wrong. But definately, I didn't expect to see so much Sakuya, to see Eruruu wander into the fold with Hakuoro during their midnight stroll with Kuuya. This part stopped my heart for a moment (as I think nobody wants to see Eruruu and Hakuoro have more scenes together as much as I do :P ). But I do say it worked well in their aim for comedy, and although it is different, it played well.

Kamyu was a big alteration. Nobody would expect her to go vampire except us people who have played the game once before. You'd think she'd get some from Hakuoro first or we clearly watch Kamyu do it to Aruruu but it doesn't. It's just "bam! Slurp. Run away! Start the scene." I felt that this plot point about Kamyu was extremely rushed, but the nice attention to Kamyu kinda cleared all my doubts.

And the battle was better than 32 bit lol. But it still came as a real shocker. This big mass standing before you, the clouds unfold, the moonlight reveals these mechs. Three men is all it took (well 2) to wipe an entire army. Total gore. I wanted quality killing for a long time and I finally got it, and I don't know if I asked for too - probably why I got so grossed out, but I liked the feeling. O_o

Hauenkua (I believe he's the blue-haired dude) is just............so much more WOW in the anime than in the game. I always knew he was a sadistic lunatic, but bravo to the voice actor and the animators. He is crazy-evil! He's got the laugh you can stomach and the composure of a bad-dude. A worthy antagonist for Hakuoro. Like I said before, I will enjoy hating him.

As one of my expectations for eliciting serious emotional impact to the Utawarerumono audience, I hope Hauenkua kills Aruruu in a manner of such shock and such suspense that I (if not everyone) will scream bloody murder until he cries he never been born. It would be such a shame if his character got softer when this climatic moment reaches. For this scene to happen, we would really need to spend several minutes injuring Hakuoro...a lot...

Does the Keanu Reaves' "Whoa..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, Kamyu did do the vampire thing to Aruruu. Kamyu ran away and hid in the storehouse until she was found by pretty much the same way as it did in the anime. The only change was where they found her.

I'd stay away from women with red eyes though. ;O!

pretty good episode from what i got from it couldnt understand very much of the dialog due to the fact that my japanese sucks i have a long way to go oh well. Some intreteing things took place Aruruu was bitten by a vampire but it was really Kamyu (ok i can go along with that).

The introduction of a fiesty little hyper active charcter who apprently good in bed or more like good at making the bed. Sakuya was very cute watching scurry around trying to get away from the soldiers was funny. couldnt understand much of what she said she talks really fast.

Then there is Kuuya cute as she can be and can pilot a mech pretty well what the HELL mechs i sooooooooooooooo didnt see that one coming but for some reasons looking at those suits reminded me or the one from Sakura wars,. The blood and gore was awsome always nice to see someones body parts go flying i mean im no expert not having experinced being flattended by gaint ass sword but i think it hurts. I dont think that she evil but i will have to watch the sub version if it ever comes out. Seems like out white winged little friend is pulling strings again. I just dont think she is a bad person maybe she thinks she is doing the wrong things for the right reasons.

After a two week hiatus I'm back.

An emotional involving episode issuing how one feels to have the power on battlefield.

I guess Kuuya is not adult enough to talk sensitively after taking lives for the first time. She mostly sounded as a child who found his father's gun and used it for first time and looked fun.

However, she's adult enough to not deny her actions and the guilt that still lingers on her for the massacre that she lead Kunnekamun commit to Nosecheska and Erumui.
The worst of is that she cannot stop due to Kunnekamum's pride that forbids forgiveness towards anyone who threatens them.

The other incident with Kamyu made me overflow with tears.

Poor Kamyu! Due to her wings she has been ostracized by most of her people. Aruruu was the very first person she had contact with and made friends to but thought to have lost her after sucking her (Aruruu's) blood.

I sighed blissfully that everyone understood, and Aruruu came for her not because to forgive since she knows that Kamyu did no wrong but to take her precious friend back to everyone.

What would exactly be the deal between that Kunnekamun and Dii?
At least Yue knew he was fodder to the beast and allowed Dii to use him in exchange on pressuring Hakuoro.

But this new guy allied with him is just trying his (Dii's) patience; someone loathable and unwelcomed.

Cardiac Glycoside
2006-08-26, 16:50
Uh, Aruruu, not Eruruu.

Kamyu isn't being ostracized--she is respected (possibly feared) because of a special something she inherited. Unfortunately, that means she cannot live like a normal person because of her, uh, habit.

I wonder what Evil Emo Bunnyman plans to do with his half-and-half emperor?
