I believe later on the 3rd seat of 11th squad reaches Bankai as well. These are specific skills (mastering one's sword) but being on captain level first requires a level of spirit power (reiatsu), and I think that's something Renji isnt quite up to yet.

He definitely has technique over Ichigo though, he can fight quite evenly with Byakuya on pure "swordsmanship" terms but got owned by the some ability (seems like pure spirit force) from Byakuya that held Renji in place where he got cut up helplessly.

Even before Ichigo reached bankai and became quite a bit more skilled and faster, he achieved the spirit power of a captain first (like on the bridge). No one ever seems to mention (or feel) Renji's paltry spirit force :heh:

I feel like he's gonna turn into a Krillin of sorts, weak as hell, but has some sort of "ace in the hole" power (his bankai for example) that lets him be semi-useful, kind of like Krillin and his ability to cut through ANYONE with that buzzsaw bomb.

But wasn't it said that Madarame was actually the second strongest person in Kenpaichi's division though, with it not simply being that of Madarame stating himself to be so? With the fifth seat only being the fift seat in terms of five being the most beautfil number in terms of most looking like 3 while Madarame happens to take up that spot? So I wouldn't say that it's impossible for her as a strange twist to be the most strongest lieutenant but I just don't see it really happening.

And I guess my fave would be Renji, since all the others don't really matter much to me and that Madarame isn't actually at the lieutenant seat.Though he should be and even more when he has shown himself to be able to use bankai at least but of course he doesn't have any interest in that much less seems to truly care how he's ranked anyway.

There is an episode (actually it's a flashback) where you get to see Shuuhei, Renji, Hinamori & Momo together: it's a training for 1st year shinigami students, in the real world, with fake hollows. Shuuhei (who's a third year student at the time) along with 2 other classmates are the ones who supervise the whole thing, until some hollows able to hide their reiatsu (hollows modified by Aizen) come into the picture, and kill nearly everybody. Shuuhei tells the 1st year students to run away to save their lives, while he stays to fight the hollow alone. That's when Renji, Momo and Kira decide not to abandon him and go back to support him. Just when Shuuhei was about to get killed they come and protect him by blocking (all 3) the hollow attack. In no way that proves they're stronger. They just saved him by blocking what could have been a lethal attack. Sure they became vice captains later, but Momo is only really good at demon magic. I doubt her battle skills are of same level as her friends. Kira, well, we didn't see much of him but he didn't seem that strong. Only Renji as I said could be stronger than Shuuhei. And if you wanna see how badass Shuuhei is, watch double episode 84-85. He completely owns possessed Rukia (who is at vice captain level, see episode where she beats the crap out of D-Roy arrancar), and would have killed the Bount without any effort if Ichinose hadn't intervened in the battle!

Momo is a lol chracter but Kubo gives her more screen time then Shuhei ever has gotten . Momo's Kido is pretty good she actually broke through Toshiro's barrier Among the three she is the best in Kido . About Zanjustu I have seen Momo go at it with Kira and pretty much handle herself . In the past she has survived against Renji while training . And unlike Momo and Kira Renji relies more on Zanjustu even his zanpakuto is zanjustsu based . I'm really beginning to think you guys are blind. All the facts were stated in my second post in the previous page. Moreover, I didn't once say Shuuhei IS stronger than Kira & Momo, but Shuuhei IS LIKELY to be stronger, and I exposed all my arguments. Let me sum up again:

1) He's the only shinigami so far who has been assigned a Vice Captain seat before he even graduated from the Shinigami School. Thus, it hints at how much skilled he must be

2) Fighting wise, and I'm talking about pure fighting skills (NO shikai, NO bankai, NO whatnot), he's rather talented seing how he beat the crap out of Yumichika (before he used his sucky shikai).
In the filler (even though you're going to say that doesn't count I find it a stupid elitist reaction) he fights against possessed Rukia without any difficulty, he dodges her attacks and just plays with her trying to find a way to defeat the Bount without hurting her (Rukia could well be a high-ranked officer, it's just that Byakuya made it so that she isn't on the applying list, because higher rank=dangerous missions, and he don't wanna have her injured or killed----> big brother protective behavior, I think everyone can understand that). So, Shuuhei>Rukia

3) We have yet to see his shikai but, from all the fights he pulled he didn't use it yet, meaning he wasn't in danger, meaning if he's able to fight with standard zanpakutou form without too much difficulty, his shikai could very well be kickass. That's an assumption though. But sooner or later we'll see it.

4) Just because we haven't seen much of him yet, doesn't mean he's weak.

Yumichika just absorbed his reiatsu and went away. You can't call that a fight, can you? Stealing somebody's spirit force and running away. That's why I think Yumichika is just some kind of loser (for a 11th squad shinigami)

Ikkaku had his reasons. Renji, well, could be captain and has no reason to refuse (the rivalry with Byakuya is not much of an excuse for him to stay VC in 6th squad). Shuuhei has no reason either not to take a captain seat, I agree. Achieving bankai doesn't necessarily promote you to captain seat anyway: like Renji.
But to tell the truth, I don't think Shuuhei has reached this level. Though you can be considered skilled without being at bankai level. Like Ichigo when he fought Zaraki. Or Zaraki himself. If I follow your reasoning then, all the shinigami who didn't reach bankai are weak. That's not correct. They may not be the best out there, but that doesn't mean they are no good. That's what I wanted to say. Shuuhei is no captain: right. He probably doesn't have bankai: I think so too. But my point is, so what? That doesn't mean he's worthless.

I'll agree with you on this! Even if Shuuhei is no captain, is no uber powerful shinigami, he's still stronger than them. But of course there are other shinigami more skilled than him. I never said he was the strongest of all Gotei 13! Just that he seems powerful, not amazingly strong, but still, skilled. Imo he isn't as weak as most people seem to think. Even if there is no unquestionable proof he is a badass, there are some hints here and there.

Shuuhei lost the battle because he got surprised and wasn't expecting this at all. I reckon he may have underestimated his opponent but I'm sure that if he had released his zanpakutou (thus fighting on equal grounds against Yami) the outcome would have been different. He'd have won, just because of simple logic:
If shinigami A > shinigami B when in sealed form, most logically
shinigami A > shinigami B when in released form.

1. Hinamori Momo - <33 I love this girl. ^^. She's got so much guts and NO SHE IS NOT WEAK. She was not a fukutaichou just because Aizen wanted to manipulate her easily. the reason that people don't vote for kira is because he is not an interesting character.

all the others have some sort of mystery or a type of life about them, Kira is just normal. following whoever and not really doing anything interesting.

Yachiru is this cute little one who seems to have power and most want to see her fight. she is a great character as well.

Rangiku has two big reasons why most love her as well as he history with Gin and her being in the 10th squad, which is featured most. she also has a great character.

Hisagi is another character who is not featured and we don't really know a lot about him apart from his tattoos. also we have't seen his release yet either.

Nanao is with Shunsui and her character about how she is going around and how she deals with Shunsui is very good to read and watch. the readers not knowing a lot about her adds to her, also we hav'nt seen her fight.

Nemu is great because she is with Mayuri, who most people love to hate. also her character how she is portrayed in the manga and the anime. of not knowing much about her again adds to her.

people like Renji because how he is like with the other characters and his relationship with everyone including Rukia and Ichigo. also he is the fukutaicho of one of the best captains.

Momo because she is with Tōshirō and their relationship. alos he assotiation with Aizen in the SS arc.

that is just some exaples of the popular fukutaicho's. Kira dos'nt really have much. we practiclly know all about him. his history with all the others was revealed long ago. right now he has no mystic about him.

Renji is my fav since the SS arc. My opinion of him turned around 180° ever since his flashback to when he was in Rukongai with Rukia and their academy training, the fight with Byakuya but most of all the second fight with Ichigo where he comes to the realisation that there's now someone stronger than him to protect Rukia, and that he'll have to entrust her to Ichigo from then onwards.

In the SS arc both of Renji's losses gave another insight into his character. Like his defeat by Ichigo, as I mentioned above, or his defeat by Byakuya where he realised how far away from his goal he really is.

He looks awesome when he gets serious (even though he still gets pwned), and his tatoos are hardcore!

Ironically, Renji was my most disliked character when he first appeared. He was like Byakuya's sidekick and he acted like a total arse. I was so glad to see Ichigo wipe the floor with him in ep. #17. Then he became all rebellious and started fighting for his own goals... so cool.

My second fav is a 3-way tie between Genryusai's VC, Hisagi Shuuhei and Rangiku.

I like Rangiku because of her connection with Gin. I usually find her kinda annoying when Gin isn't involved though, like when she's giving Orihime romantic advice or when she's teasing Hitsugaya.

Genryusai's VC, Choujirou Sasakibe, is one of the 2 VCs I really want to see fighting. I suspect he's going to be stronger than a few of the captains to be worthy of being Yamamoto's VC, and I really want to see how they'll match his fighting style to his appearance.

Hisagi Shuuhei is the other VC I wan't to see fighting. Damn this guy looks so friggin hardcore, more so than Renji I reckon. When I think of what his fighting style might be I picture something like Jet Lee on extacy, flipping out and going mental!

Like Kayote said, I like Rangiku because of two big albeit similiar reasons. But apart from that, there are many other reasons for her being my favourite vice captian. The fact that she is Hitsugaya's luitenant endears her even more as it provides a certain spark to her already colourful body.

Renji has my vote for the sole reason that he actually fights people that are stronger than him. other people would probly run. unless ofcourse if they were from 11.

also he may "seem" week with his bankai. but come on he even said it himself. "i have yet to master all of its abilities". the only person whos mastered there bankai in less than 10 years of straight training is ichigo. but he gets main character points so that doesnt count.

Unohana - She's smart, quiet, reserved, caring, polite, sexy, but yet intimidating enough to frighten some squad 11 members. In fact, being destroyed by Yamamoto's bankai is supposedly preferable to seeing Unohana's bad side according to some captain lvl shinigami. Plus, the hair's a nice touch. (Yeah...I think I'm turned on. :p)

I have to admit, I think her lack of screentime has actually helped form my opinion since I haven't had much opportunity to grow tired of her at all. On a side note, I'd absolutely love to see what her Bankai is -- More so than Aizen's.

Well, Renji has had more character development than any other VC and possibly only comes after Ichigo and Rukia out of all the characters in the series. And I think his shikai is much more than interesting, if you rewatch the first fight with Ichigo it looks downright brutal. It's a pity his latter fights aren't drawn out so well, not to mention his mistreatment at the hands of Kubo and the animators...
