NEWS:
GamePatch website can now be found at http://z3.invisionfree.com/GamePatch/

More information there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, since a certain mod made me repost the thread ;) I'm reposting it.

Okay, for those of you who don't understand what the last thread was about, though if you've been paying attention to the Shuffle Translation thread its easy enough.
Heklin's little group of volunteers to do shuffle in their spare time has evolved!
The official group name will be GamePatch, and its home is #gamepatch on Rizon IRC Server (Sorry folks, no direct links here).

As some of you already know, we are also working on Tick Tack!, which is a game in the Shuffle! universe thats timeline is set in the event that you chose Nerine's ending in Shuffle!. After that, we have no definite plans on which game we will do, though Soul Link and Really Really look appealing.

Now that the introductions are out of the way, lets talk business. With the forming of the group, we will also be expanding! A website will be posted shortly (once we get it up :D), and a few other suprises may be on the way.

Well if you ask me, it's a bit more on topic compared to the old one, but somehow I don't really like it... Maybe the patch without any character would have been better, but I guess my opinion is biased... a little bit^^

Yeah, thats what our first design was, but someone thought it was too plain. *Coughhekincough*.

If you ask me, It should be plain. I mean, a logo shouldn't be able colors and shiny things, it should be simple, something people can remember. :D

But thats just my opinion, it dosen't count.

Lordi
2006-09-03, 07:57
I agree with Des there, but then again, it kind of matter what kind of thing the logo represents...perhaps O.o

If i had the SHUFFLE game i would try out the patch and see how i like it. But sadly i don't....

I do like your logo though!

So does this mean we should call you Gamepatch now?
and ask our question to the group rather then just heklin?
if so
Hey Gamepatch!
good to see your working on your site and a logo.
looks like you really want to make something of this.
and a few other suprises may be on the way
:uhoh: some suprises, hey...;)
i'll look forward to it
but i do have a question for the team
if your getting your own website,
are you planing to move the shuffle trasnlation coversation from animsuki to a diffrent location or keep it here for the time being?

Lordi
2006-09-03, 21:12
Yes, we are now GamePatch.
I think Heklin (man! spelled his name wrong again :() or Dessert might answare your question better then me, since I do not actually know what they are planning :)

that why i directed the question towad the translation team that is translating shuffle. (gamepatch)
:eyebrow:  lordi, your not part of the translating team are you?:eyebrow::confused:
just a bit confused about the line Yes, we are now GamePatch.
i was under the understanding that this is just the offical name been given the to translation group. that inless im mistaken the only two members that write on this forum are heklin and dessert.

I'm part of the group, but not as a translator...I can't say more than that.

GamePatch is the name for the group, not just me and heklin. The reason that me and heklin are the only ones who post is because we are really the only ones that need to. Besides our translators, checkers, and other random people, me and Heklin just handle the leadership and organization (even though he is still the head translator and editor).

As for myself, I handle Public Relations and organization of the project, so if you have any questions about it, I ask that, if possible, you direct it to me so that Heklin dosen't have to take time out of work to answer all your questions.

As for Lordi, he is on our team, but he is not a translator.

As for the Shuffle Discussion, we are still trying to decide on that one. We will post news about it later.

No no,

ATTENTION FOLKS! THIS IS _NOT_ REPLACING THE OLD THREAD

This is just an announcement for the group that did it (Heklin and friends) is no longer existing. Instead, Heklin and I decided to make this into an official VN Translation group. Its still the same people with shuffle, only now we have a name besides " heklin and whoever else he begs to help him".

And yeah, right now we don't have many 'official' staff. Current it is Dessert (me), Heklin, Lordi, and maybe one or two others, we aren't sure yet. Once we get a site up, we will have a Join Us page where you can apply to be part of our staff and help us out. The main reason for applications is to ease the load and organize it, instead of a hundred people PMing me and Heklin going "I WANT 2 HALP!", and also to filter out some of the folks who try and join just to say 'I did this project, I'm cool' when they didn't really do anything :P

Discussion of the translation will stay in the old thread, but any news about gamepatch and a few updates about Shuffle will be posted here by either myself or heklin.

Hmm I'm tempted to offer my services as a translator but despite the fact that I do have experience translating a few Ero-games with some of my work being on the web, I'm not all that skilled with coming up with decent translations from Japanese to English(ESPECIALLY when it comes to narrations. The narrations can really mess me up....), I don't know if I'm right for the role unless I'm allowed to learn as I move along.

... This seems moderately recent.

Don't mind me. I just happened to aquire Shuffle! by certain means, but since I don't know a shred of Japanese it means absolutely nothing to me at present...
I did however catch word of some so-called patch for it in a description at datorrents.com ..... so would anyone mind filling me in? I honestly haven't got a clue.... and I really would like to understand the game..... preferably without having to try and teach myself Japanese (or kidnap a Japanese student from UCL and force them to translate at knife-point).

Whoever this Heklin person is then, I'm thankful for their efforts... and its lucky that I aquired Shuffle! now and not earlier... close to the completion date for this.
As it stands, even if I taught myself Japanese I wouldn't be able to read it anyway as all I get up on the screen is garbled characters....

garbled characters.. have you tried setting your system settings to japanese?
thats the most common solution for this problem.
if you don't then even with english text you have problems, (such as over lapping letters and so)

But returning to the main topic,i think the logo of gamepatch is cool,,,,but,,,don´t you guys think its better,or a simpler one or,instead of one girl in the logo(giving preference to nerine)(my favourite is kaede)put all of the girls in there?

I see...
So in order for it to function normally the entire computer needs to be set over to Japanese?
That makes sense... though I'm wary of doing that since I'm certain I'm not familiar enough with the Japanese language to turn the computer back once I was done, and could cause myself some quite serious issues.
Thankyou for your explanation though.

simply change your non-unicode programs language to japanese, windows will stay the same.

control panel \ hour date language \ language options \ advanced
change the language to japanese

Well, there is simply no such thing as too much Nerine. But I imagine Nerine was used because that picture of her in the nurse uniform was already available, and it fit in with the band-aid theme for the patch.

I think it's because only Nerine was ever seen in a nurse uniform. Fits the Band-Aid thing perfectly, I'd say.:D

Though I'm actually a Sia fan... *sniff sniff

To be splitting hairs, the "torrent" part was quite correct, though I've not seen the "bit" part used in anything I've touched for several years. Same basic principle though. I wouldn't be so dishonest as to deny it. ^_^;;

Is that what this thread is really all about?
The logo? o_0;

I mean... its... just an image. A symbol... It vaguely gets the point across, so thats all thats needed, right? It doesn't exactly comply to my own personal sense of asthetic, but then I'm not even remotely important here.

@Soticoto: the purpose of this thread was orginally short... just to introduce the group as a formal structure and their logo. Everything else has been kind of off the rail.

@lolipedofin: There's great instructions at http://www.declan-software.com/japanese_ime/ for japan-ifying your computer without messing up the english parts.

Yes, your browser should be able to after you do the installation I've linked to (hopefully you're using Firefox). You should also be able to type in Romaji and have the computer automatically convert to -kana script though its not *really* convenient. You will *probably* need your Windows OS disk depending on what version of Windows you run to get the necessary system files.

Lastly, I ask people to use "JP" if they want to shorten "japanese" ... I've not seen "japz" before but if it is slang for "jap" or "japs" ..... well, please don't as it is considered extremely derogatory :) I see you're a new member so be sure to read the forum rules. The mods actually enforce them.

I'm afraid to ask what forum thinks the racial epithet "jap" is okay :( and what other racial epithets they allow. I guess historical context is all too easily forgotten or never learned.

Anyway, hope the instructions work.

No offense, but I think you're just being bitchy. I don't see why the Japanese would be offended if anyone used "Jap" to refer to them, unless they MEAN to be racial. Most people just do it because they're too lazy to type the whole word. Seriously, if they're offended by something that's not MEANT to offend them, then they're way too sensitive. Just because it WAS used as a racial term many years ago, it doesn't mean it's used as one now.

Zelos_Zalis
2006-09-17, 05:05
This will probably be modded without my imput but I would like to note that to those it would offend (and so nobody gets the wrong idea, I'm not one of them) It doesn't really matter if it was ment in that sense or not, because if that word offends someone all logic usually leaves the floor once its read. For example a group of players were playing a MMORPG and were losing and someone made the comment "looks like we have a 8%&* in the armor" (never can be too careful folks :eyebrow: ) and one of the players in the party happened to be of the proper nationality to be offended, once server admins had been brought into it things were quickly found to be a misunderstanding but It took that much for that person to see logic again. while it may seem foolish. Its better off to prevent uneccessary conflicts before they happen. so I think others would agree with me its easier for people to just mind their manners rather than go through a highly uneccessary conflict. :nono:

No offense, but I think you're just being bitchy. And one could turn around and say that you're just being insensitive and uncaring for suggesting that it's "their fault if they get offended even when it wasn't meant that way!". It's all a matter of perspective. In any case, I fail to see why this is worth derailing the thread for. If you're aware a word could be seen by some as a racial slur, then why would you keep using it? To get a rise out of overly-sensitive people? Clearly, as you pointed out, those who use the word around here aren't aware of its history; upon being made aware, they can easily find another abbreviation. And that was the spirit in which the comment was given -- no "bitchiness" at all. Let's try to stay on topic...

(Edit: See also what Zelos_Zalis was writing at the same time. I hope it's over now.)

As two other posts answered what *should* have been intuitive, I don't need to repeat what they said. "many years ago" is in error because it continues to be used in the present day as an epithet. Since you aren't the target of the epithet... hmmm, just easier to suggest you review the forum rules about harassment and abuse since you're a new member.

Sorry if this has been said to death but the translation thread was closed and it has too much pages to look for it.

Hello!

This is an update about the current status of GamePatch staff and website.

In October, Lordi, who is our web administrator, stopped coming online, and in all practicality went MIA (and still is), at that time, the website also went down. Recently, it has a wordpress setup page, which I am still investigating.
Heklin is currently in Japan, and doing well last I heard from him. There were problems with his lines, though he should have gotten internet by now, there were no promises.

As for the server bills, the actual website domain and servers are paid for through the next two years thanks to Heklin, so we are not sure whats going on with the site as I stated earlier. I will forward an email if/when I get some news about it.

The patch itself is technically completed, a few more scripts need to be edited, and the patch installer needs to be created, the issue is, Heklin is the only one with all the scripts available at this point, as my drive with the scripts crashed and burned. Me and other GamePatch staff are striving to contact Lordi or Heklin, and hope to get everything back in motion soon.

Thank you,
Dessert

Editing appears to be a journey, not a destination. They've apparently lost track of Heklin (main translator) *and* many of the working data-files-in-progress. It'd be a shame to lose that stuff -- the alpha test patch for the first 3 days actually looked quite decent.

Dxon
2008-01-19, 10:56
Yea. Editing takes a long time... To bad though.. When I'm looking for other translations on other games it says it took them 3 years without any troubles like data loss or stopping translators. 3 YEARS!! That's long...

Just finished my first time playing the game. Since I can't read Japanese, I followed a walkthrough for the Asa-route (my favourite, probably cos I liked the anime ...) and pressed the enter key constantly (except during the hentai scenes ofcourse :p). Some scenes I knew what was going on cos of similarities with the anime, but many I didn't.

I tried installing the patch from game patch multiple times (extracting the rar-file ShuffleUpdate(v.1.1) in the work directory of Shuffle and executing the Navalupdate or just copy paste the content of data to the working directory) and when I checked ingame: Help -> about, it did indeed say version 1.10 instead of 1.00, meaning the patch was installed, though there wasn't one word english during the game. Guess the patch is not complete / working yet... ? But why is it downloadable then ? ... Though I read different responses on different forums, like that the patch is easily installed and working and others say they're still waiting ... so

Or does the patch work and am I doing something wrong  If it works, can someone please describe exactly how the patch is installed? It would be much appreciated :) If it doesn't work, I guess I'll wait patiently for the new release. :) Can't wait to play the game in english.

That is because you DIDN'T download the patch all you downloaded was the updater that upgrades v1.0 to v1.1 (which is needed if you didn't get the DVD edition) what you need to download is the shuffle alpha patch which actually contains the translated text.

CygnusX
2008-01-21, 16:50
Haha it works, so easy! :D

I didn't download the alpha release cos it is was so small and I thought it was the old version of the patch which covers only 3 days while the updater is new and would contain a lot more days, which isn't true :'( ... Well at least first 3 days are working now.

Thanks! :D

I'll be waiting for the release of a more complete patch. Keep up the much appreciated work! :)

I've just gotten the game and was like dying to get the patch. I went to Game Patch's webpage and it said it was temporarily closed. I wonder why? Page reconstruction?

Any other sources of where to download the patch from are always welcome.

Well from what I heard they was planning to change how the site looks (it's probably the reason why the site has been down for as long as this).
I've actually got a copy of the alpha patch (plus the v1.1 updater for anyone who has the CD version of the game) so I can easily upload them to my personal web space until such time as the mail site is back online.

coz in mine the only translated are just the 1st two days i dont know why.Because that's all that has been released. That's why it was an "alpha patch" -- it's a proof-of-concept.

Until gamepatch comes back online I'll put the currently available patch and the v1.0-v1.1 updater on my own web space (of which will be removed once the site comes back online)

(link removed) (remember this only translates the first few day's)
(link removed (only needed if you have the original CD release of the game)

Also if I discover abuse of these links then the links will be removed and then everyone will have to wait until gamepatch comes back online

So it's been what? 5 years?!

*re-check 1st page*

Oops, it has only been 2 years... weird, i seem to recall that it has been at least 3 years.. '~'

Well, anyway at this point the only thing i can do is be as negative as i could, which is kinda hard for me to do, since I'm always the type to be over-expectant... Well, yeah.. be as negative as i could and then be surprised when the patch is released. If they suddenly went MIA again, for good... I could just, "well yeah.. i thought so..." lol

It's weird, 2 or 3 years ago, i thought that by this time, visual novel/eroge community would have grown large, and a lot more of dedicated translator groups would appear... Well, there are a lot more groups that actually planning to release VN translation, as for whether they are ''dedicated'' or not, only God knows... haha.

Btw, none of what i wrote above are meant to directly or indirectly making fun of Gamepatch, I was talking about this generally, at least gamepatch are done translating and close (i hope) to release... There's a lot group out there that actually made us delighted with their project announcement, but then disbanded before even actually translating...X(

Lots of people start projects with grand visions ... then real life intrudes with a sledgehammer.

I've started at least 3 or 4 translation projects of manga - its just really hard to make substantial progress when the car needs repair, the plumbing breaks, or there's overtime at work.

There's nothing really stopping someone else from picking the Shuffle project up.... its just that Heklin has these interrupts and a desire that the work be his vision. The only complaint I have is that "it'd be good if the existing work were backed up offsite just in case...". :P

Short summary: there is no english patch. It is still in development. Only an alpha patch which covered the first few days of the game was ever released.

I'm not sure if this has been answered yet, but are you going to consider releasing a patch for Shuffle! Essence+ once it's released (Shuffle! Essence+ is a remake of the PS2 port Shuffle! on the Stage and includes two new characters ((and possiblu H-scenes for PS2 characters)))? It would be four more paths to translate, but the original patch's text could be used for the original girls and the main story in between. You'd still be able to release a patch after you're done editing the original game, that way those who want to play Shuffle! in English as soon as possible will be able to.

sora12

Who is this "you" you're addressing? The patch team rarely/never reads this thread (I don't know that the lead Heklin has visited here in years...).
Since they have yet to release a *first* complete patch in the several years since Shuffle!'s release ... its probably a bit over-the-top to talk about future patches.

Either demonix hadn't edited his post yet saying he's not involved in the translation project or I just didn't see his edit, but I had read his above post and assumed he was involved in the project.

I read on a forum that the editing for the patch should be done by the end of the year (a Christmas present!:heh:), so it's not that out of the question to talk about different patches. The translation team will either focus on Tick! Tack! or (if it's released and they decide to translate it) Shuffle! Essence+.

BTW, has Naval even released Essence+ yet? Have they even given a release date?

Vexx
2008-09-04, 11:01
You'll have to forgive my grain of salt as I've seen the group make too many predictions about "when the editing will be done" for the last, what, ouch... three years now?

I just have it filed in the "it'll be done when its done" part of my memory.

I've not seen any release date for Essence+ but I haven't visited the Naval site in a while....

Wasn't the reason the project got so delayed because the project's administrator went offline for a long period of time? Since he's back now, the translation team can continue editing the game.

It's true that many translation teams delay their projects, and Shuffle! could continue to be delayed by the end of the year, but now that the administrator's back, the project shoudn't take years to be edited.

Vexx
2008-10-23, 23:56
No idea... when I got the warning, I just waited an hour and tried again (I was grabbing the 1.1 patch to re-install the game).

So that tells me you could probably try once every few hours or so. Otherwise, you'll have to try and contact one of the site guys.

UPDATE: okay... gamepatch people? edit// okay the "flood protection" settings make the site nearly unusable. Locking me out after 3 pages (request webpage, login, go to downloads) is just freaking ridiculous. 3 page requests is *not* "flooding".

I tried to collect the alpha patch to send you, Wckiller, but *visiting* the site is considered threatening to it, it seems :P
I sincerely hope that's a misconfiguration ... and from demonix says below it is a technical issue with the site mechanics.

I noticed that mit had been looking for the alpha patch during my occasional update check on the status of the gamepatch website. I downloaded it maybe 2 years ago or so? I don't delete translation patches I pick up, and since I randomly decided to see if mit still needs it, I thought I might as well ask anyone else if they want it as well. I'll be checking for the next 2 or 3 days as I go through the process of getting it to mit. As a warning though, it really only covers the first 3 days of the game...but I suppose it will suffice as an alluring appetizer for when the full patch comes out soon.

I just hate that a lot of work might get simply lost and anyone else who took it up would have to start from scratch. That's why places like the B-T translation projects are great... if someone is hit by a meteor, the work can survive.

aye, I can't say I'm terribly happy with the situation. If they intend on finishing it - fine, say so. If they don't, also say so. Its been "almost done" for, what, 3 years now?

It actually impedes other people from starting because no one likes to re-do work that they know exists. That's why places like Sourceforge are so popular (open source software site).

Starting to think about putting my copies of Shuffle! and TickTack! up on ebay... :P I've played through them in my torturous knowledge of Japanese.

"back ups" weren't the issue.. .its that the guys who *HAVE* the data keep vanishing offline for months or years, leaving the others adrift.

As far as the website goes.... they keep taking it down to save money if nothings happening. There was also a period when their site host apparently had them on a very tight transfer cap and it would go offline frequently as people tried to visit.

Frankly, I'll give it six more months and then call the project essentially dead and stop worrying about it anymore.

Afaik, the game's translation is already done.
It's only that the datas are lost on most member's hard drives and the only one who's got the complete datas went to Japan. Since then, the communication has been kind of... very, very, very, very... very bad so that it was not possible to bring out the patch.
Well... at least that's what I last heard about this, though I do wonder how long this communication problem has already been going on...

According to the beginning post the website and is domain were paid for for two years. That was two years ago so if they haven't renewed their site or domain that may explain why there's been no new activity on the site. I also heard that they were trying to switch servers due to a server crash that lost data. Lack of communication is a big problem but here's another thing to consider. Last time I checked the website before everything went to hell, there was a message posting about how someone was going into surgery. So maybe they staff has other issues they need to focus on?

I believe that's all very old news (including the surgery I think) ... but it does illuminate one of the problems with the Brave New World on the Net. There's no automatic mechanism for people to know your fate if you vanish.

If I exit realspace via a car crash or heart attack tomorrow -- its highly unlikely anyone on the forums, facebook, or in MMOs or other "meetspaces" will ever know what happened (though I do actually know one or two people here in RL, they might be nice enough to let posters know).

well ... weather it is a problem it an interesting question, since its sometimes is a 'easy way' to leave the site ... would actually be interested to have an extended debate about it in one way or another

Actually if memory serves they also mentioned that they'd put the domain on auto-renewal to avoid what happened to their .se domain (all the head honchos were away and the lease on the domain expired and was never renewed).
Also I believe that the work on the new site is going on slowly considering that I suspect that the servers OS has already been changed (unless it has always been running on Nginx) plus the lease on the domain doesn't expire for another 7 months so it'd be best to keep and eye on the usual whois checkers to see if the domain gets renewed.

Having played through the game a bit and having a decent grasp on the language, I have to say that if I had an inkling of how to make a patch for the game I'd take a stab at translating it myself. Alas, I have not the knowledge of how to make such a patch.

Hello everyone!

So, its been a while hasn't it? Its update time.

Ero-Jiji is alive and well. He is currently stuck in USA waiting on his visa so that he can go back home to Japan. All of the Shuffle files are on his HD at home in Japan, so he does not have access to it. The reason he is still waiting on his visa (He applied for it 6 months ago) is because of the election (thats our best guess) and paperwork is backed up to hell. He has recently gotten his Passport in, hopefully his Visa will be soon to follow. So he is hoping to be able to return home within the next month or two.

The whole surgery thing was my wife and I. We had our baby, and to be honest, life has been hectic since. At 1 month our son had to have surgery for Pyloric Stenosis (google it), we moved in december, and now we are 1 month away from our wedding. I will be completely honest and say that I haven't had much time to get online at all since.

As for the website, our webmaster, Lordi, is working on the site, changing it over to a new system. At the moment, I believe college is catching up and he is focusing most of his time on that, since the website wouldn't do much good until Ero can get back to Japan anyway.

As for the shuffle patch. Yes, all the work is done is done, it just has to be finalized (make sure no files are missing or anything), compiled, and distributed. But as I said, its all inaccessible until EroJiji can go home.

As for the Welcome to NGINX thing, I am supposing that is something that Lordi threw up with the new server system. We will get in touch with him and ask about it, and when we can expect the website to be back up.

So yeah, with Ero stuck in US, me and my wife taking care of our son, and Lordi dealing with college, there is no progress to be made or reported at the moment. GamePatch is still alive and well, we are just having some IRL issues at the moment.

I will keep an eye on the thread, and try and answer any questions you folks may have.

Thank you,
The GamePatch Team

Yes, I will admit, all of this waiting is even a little discouraging even to me. But hey, life happens I guess. It just sucks that Ero has been stuck in the US for a year and a half now, while the Shuffle work sits on his hard drive...at home...not turned on...

I have a question. Since we're all waiting for the Shuffle patch to be uploaded what's the stasis for Really Really and Tick Tack? Wasn't game-patch also translating those as well?

DJLowrider
2009-03-04, 10:53
No offense intended to the GamePatch guys here, but considering how long it's taken to hear anything definitive about the status of a patch for Shuffle! I think you could learn enough Japanese to be able to play either of the other games before either would ever (if ever) see a patch.

Besides, of the two only Really? Really! is worth playing. Tick Tack was an enormous disappointment. Tangentially, this continues to baffle me. Nerine's path was fun to play in Shuffle! but her "after" game sucked. Kaede's path in Shuffle! bored me to tears, but her "after" game is awesome. Go fig. :heh:

Well, the truth of the matter is, during most of the time you all were waiting on shuffle, so were we (the staff). During that time, Ero-jiji was unable to contact me or any other staffers. I finally got in touch with him July of 2008, and he is currently waiting on his Visa (he recently got his passport, so his visa should be coming soon) so that he can go back home. The only thing he has planned to do in america before going home is to attend mine and my fiance's wedding.

Vexx
2009-03-04, 16:06
.... that's a little confusing "recently got his passport and waiting on visa so he can go back home"...

The only sense I can make of that is that he's an American citizen (which I thought he was anyway) but considers his "home" in Japan or another country. And somehow let his passport expire????

Thanks for the information but you have to admit that sounds a little confusing :)

... and I'll keep my expectations at zero so I can be pleasantly surprised.

He is a japanese citizen. But he filed for his new US visa (it had expired) about 6 months ago, because it could take up to 2 years and a lot of hoops to jump through to get a US visa in japan. So he is waiting on that, else he won't be able to come back to the US for a long time.

Vexx
2009-03-05, 13:12
Ah, NOW its clear... yeah, much better to obtain it here - though I'm going to be a bit surprised if they don't give him some shit over letting it expire. :P

Passports and visa people have gotten really insane over the last few years - in a not-constructive way.

The game-novel Shuffle! requires a level of Japanese I haven't quite mustered yet. I can pretty much read Yotsubato without jumping for a dictionary more than once a page or so but the written text in Shuffle is designed for the 'nearly adult' age group (fair mess of kanji).

2.3 Do not ask when episodes will be released

You are not permitted to ask when episodes will be released. Shows are released once the fansub group is finished with them. All your whining will do is irritate the group's staff and make them leave the scene. That will mean even slower releases or none at all. Please have some patience.
This rule covers whining about speed of release of any fan activity. This patch is primarily a single fan's activity. No release date or timeline was ever promised. As the rule say, all your whining will accomplish is to piss off those who are actually doing the work.

Some of us have been waiting for THREE YEARS for this patch. Many of us have offered to help. So sit down, have a cup of tea, and go on with life til (and IF) it happens.

I thought the reason they didn't have Shuffle out is because it's sitting on a computer that the owner's away from. That doesn't seem to be a good reason to not do something else. Where did you hear they were working on Tick! Tack!, though?

Many people start a project like this with good intentions but the true *scale* of the adventure catches them off-guard. Matters become even worse if they're perfectionists and won't delegate :) Then real life often puts an end to them.

There used to be a website that kept track of all the eroge translation projects (and many of them that were labeled "lost in limbo") but I've lost that bookmark somewhere along the way.

I also recommend bookmarking the main Visual Novel TL wiki (http://www.tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Main_Page), because IMHO it's more reliable, and a bit more up-to-date.
The completed VN TL list is HERE (http://www.tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Category:Completed_Visual_Novel_Pr ojects), and the translated Doujin games are HERE (http://www.tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Category:Visual_Novel_Projects). Both accessible from the navigation option on the side.
That's also by no means the most accurate and up to date (Cross Channel, The Devil on G-String on top of my head for example), but it's still good.

You mean a guide that says which choices to make for which routes? This one (http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/921323/40442) is pretty good. You'll have to set your view to display Japanese characters if you want to read what the decisions are (assuming you can read Japanese characters), but even if you can't read the decisions, it will still tell you which ones to take.

Shuffle is (apparently) now licensed by MangaGamer. People at the Otakuism forum (http://www.otakuism.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6115&sid=ab473a8cc79a3ec2f53fe90b3f90f72d) claim that MangaGamer has Shuffle banners at their booth. Higurashi is also (supposedly) licensed as well.

Can anyone else claim this?

Ugh, I'm really excited, but why MangaGamer? I hate their DRM and "no packaging" crap. If they could get this, then so could JAST get other high quality titles.

Let's just hope that they got Essence+!

(maybe, just maybe, they will eventually get things like Kiminozo and School Days...)

relentlessflame
2009-07-02, 20:59
If they could get this, then so could JAST get other high quality titles.I think it's a different business model. It seems like MangaGamer is just a group of Japanese companies working together as a side-project, so they're probably getting access to these titles without paying any licensing fees. In exchange, the original company probably keeps a substantial portion of any money raised, plus is making a sort of "investment" in the future of the English market for these sorts of works. So I think their access to these titles is only because they're doing this "from the inside" and as an inter-company pet project. Jast, as an outsider, would probably have to pay royalties under the traditional licensing model.

So anyway, I assume we'll hear more at both the Jast and MangaGamer panels over the weekend.

From what I've seen and heard, it looks like Mangagamer is more into licensing Shuffle products than actually bringing the game over. Maybe they're just using the Shuffle name and images as promotional material for their business?

If that's not the case and they've actually licensed the game (unlikely), has Gamepatch said what they'd do if the game got licensed?

Mangagamer Ad/Flyer (http://www.uberness.com/images/IMG_0817.jpg)Well, actually, I think it is most likely that they have licensed the game (so to speak) especially since the flyer lists Navel as one the MangaGamer partner studios. This supports what I said above re: it not really being a license in the traditional sense if the Studio is partnered in the endeavour. (In other words, it's a "zero cost" license.) Besides, other than the games, what other products are there when you don't actually ship any physical products?

So, anyway, yeah -- we'll see what they say at their panel, but I think it's virtually assured that they're going to try to bring out the game. And I'm assuming that if they do license it for distribution, there's not really much point in continuing work on the fan translation...? In either case, we wouldn't talk about it on AnimeSuki any more. If/once the license is confirmed, I'll close this thread.

But I guess I'm going to have to shell out some more money for an official English version now to replace my Japanese copy. Not looking forward to that. Oh, wait, what about those ECOS regulations that were just put out? Isn't there something about not portraying loli's, schoolgirl's, and non-humans in them? Would Mangagamer follow those regulations, or just go over to the other body, since they rely on digital distribution?

There's been a lot of things being thrown out there in the last few weeks, but we'll see what happens when things settle down. Ooo interesting. Nice to see you're doing ok.

heklin
2009-07-05, 12:57
ok, this will be rather long, but please bear with me.

first off: the reason for my dissapearance after AX in 06

when AX ended, i planned to fly home, pick up a few things, and fly back to help my
"irc adopted" kids matt and hope move (aka dessert and kittykyo),then visit a few
friends, return home, and send the finalized scripts to the rest of the staff for
closed testing with a release shortly after if we had no problems. however, things
didnt go quite as planned. normally i would ship whatever i was bringing over ahead
of time and pick it up when i got here, however, on this occasion i didnt have the
time to do it, so i simply loaded up my luggage with the manga's and doujinshi i had
picked up to fulfill requests of some friends and jumped back on the plane. i arrived
at LA int. airport with no problems, however, while going through security i got
pulled to the side, and held for about 4 hours with no explanation of what was going
on. next thing i know im being arrested for possesion of child pornogrophy (CP) and
am carted off to jail (which is why i was unable to contact anyone, since my phone
and everything else was confiscated, i wasnt even able to contact dessert and let him
know what was going on).

it wasnt until i went to court 3 days later that the reason they charged me was for
the doujinshi i had brought back with me (vol 1-4 of comic lo, vol 1-7 of comic rin,
komoe anthology 1-5, and shonen ai no bigaku 1-8, as well as random other doujins, 42
in total) and that i was being charged with 900+ counts of possesion of CP with
intent to distibute. after about 8 months of fighting the charges hopeing to get them
dismissed (at the time, manga was still a grey area in the new laws)i was given the
offer of a pleabargain to drop the charges in exchange for pleading guilty to tax
evasion, which after some thought i decided to take and was sentenced to 16 months
jail time and parole. the manga's i had with me were all to be destroyed, and my
personal effects (like my computer and other stuff i had with me) were sent to my
home back in akita. i finished my sentence and was released on parole with no
problems, however a stipulation of my parole was i was not to be around computer
equipment, anime, or manga for the duration, and my parole officer randomly checked
up on me to verify it.

it wasnt until late 08 that dessert was able to get ahold of me through a friend and found out what was going on, and i asked him not to spread details around ( for obvious reasons i didnt want the general public knowing i had been arrested for CP)

that brings us to my current issue. while i was in jail, my japanese visa expired, along with my passport (at the time i had no clue that they did since you dont exactly get to keep that stuff when yer in jail >< ) so after my release i started the renewal proccess. with all the homeland security shit, and the upcoming election, as well as now having a criminal record, it took almost 7 months to get my passport reissued, however, i am still having issues with getting a visa and being able to go home. my request for renewal was denied due to my new criminal record, and i have to get it expunged from my record before i can re-apply for a visa.

and thats where i am at now, going through the proccess for the expungement (my hearing is in oct) to allow me to get my new visa and return home.

now to address the shuffle issue

as dessert had said before, the only complete copy of the scripts is currently sitting on the computer that was shipped home. ( i now realize that having only one storage for a complete project like that was a bad idea) through staff and other members of the channel, we were able to recover parts of the script, engine, graphics etc, about 1/3rd of all the files. since it looks like its going to be awhile i am planning on picking up with what we have available, and redoing the remaining work needed before release.

shuffle WILL be released

to me, it doesnt matter that mangagamer has (or will, at this point its not clear) started a translation of the game

there are a few reasons for my decision, first of all being all the people that bought a physical copy of the original game (mangagamer is a download site, you get nothing other than a digital download)next is the fact that i want to keep the game story as close to the original as possible, which most companies dont do when they do a commercial translation.probably the biggest reason is my personal commitment to the entire shuffle line of games(yes, i still plan to do tick tack, really really, etc, as well as possibly the novels)

as for the website, i havent been able to get ahold of the staffmember who is currently handling everything, so i know about as much as whats going on with it as you guys do, however, if i cant contact him this week, i will look into at least getting a forum up somewhere.

so yea, its been a pretty rough ride for gamepatch these last few years, but we arent dead and buried yet. i cant thank the people who have stuck with this so long enough,so the only thing i can do to say thanks is get the patch out!

if you have any questins, you can either drop me a message here on asuki, or swing by the irc channel, #gamepatch on irc.rizon.net and leave me a message there.i now have full time access to a computer so i will be doing updates alot more often.

It's nice to finally know the whole story, even if it is a shitty one. Forgive me for my ignorance but don't you know anyone back in Akita that could go to your computer, get the hard drive that has the script and send it to you?

I love how you popped up out of nowhere just after the announcement.

What convenient timing.

actually, i posted not long ago saying that i would give an update soon, i just didnt have a chance to do it before AX (see post 192.... and read before you bash people)( not having access to a comp is a bitch)

@trogu - at this time, no, at least noone i would trust with access to my house, altho i do have a friend who will be visiting for comiket in dec as a last resort, we will probably just redo the work instead of waiting that long since there really isnt any garuntee that the comp is there. they shipped it back, but i really dont have a clue whats happened to it after that. i dont know if a neighbor signed for it, or if they just left the stuff by the door etc

Fair enough. Well as I said not so long ago, I haven't given up waiting yet and now is definitely not the time.

You got arrested that sucks.

Anyways it's good to see that your free and okay now and I feel really bad that something like this happened to you.

I'm glad to see that your still planning on releasing the patch and that you still plan on translating Tick Tack and really Really. though it sucks that you have to retranslate shuffle.

Sooooooooo, on another note any chance you may translate Shuffle Essense+???

at this point i want to concentrate solely on shuffle and tt, since we already have tools/imagework/codeing etc done tho i personally would like todo all games in the shuffle universe, we will se how things go once we complete what we started

Oh wow. Now this is just awesome news.

Though it sucks that you got arrested. You must've had a tough judge or a bad lawyer. How can they have jurisdiction over you if you're a Japanese citizen? It should've been tossed out right there.

thats part of my problem, im not officially a japanese citizen yet, i had only gotten a resedency visa, and was in the proccess of applying for citizenship, which takes several years to get in japan

Yeah, so now everyone knows whats going on.

As for the MangaGamer thing. I went to try to talk to them a few times, nobody from navel was there, and they refused to give official word whether Shuffle has been licensed or not. Also, during the Bishoujo game panel, they didn't mention navel or shuffle at all really, from what I heard (I was unfortunately unable to make it).

Either way, we will still be releasing shuffle as GamePatch intends. If anyone was able to try the demo on MangaGamer CD's that they gave out....Needless to say its HORRIBLE. A friendly booth at Anime Expo was playing the GamePatch Alpha Patch and humiliating them with it, twas awesome. ^_^

As for a forum, I am looking into getting one set up, and may actually be locally hosting it this time, to avoid problems with crappy hosts etc.

I wasn't really expecting the transaltions by Mangagamer to be good but I can't believe its that horrible.

The only thing that Mangagamer will have going for them is probably uncensored CGs which is nice and all but its not as important as good translations, so i don't really see any point in buying there version when i can get a superior version from you guys.

@Heklin

So do you have to restart the translation for Shuffle(not counting the 3 days in the alpha patch)?
