How
1)We determine what to watch beforehand.
2)Each person downloads the anime episodes separately during the week.
3)We gather in the same channel on IRC.
4)Everyone loads the same anime episode on their favorite media player.
5)The MC (me) counts down to zero.
6)Everyone starts their media player at the end of the countdown.
7)Each of us read and write comments in the channel during the show.

To avoid translation differences and timing issues I suggest we try to agree on fansub groups here :)

My suggestion (just because I have them and didn't notice any major flaws yet):

PMK: AonE
FMA: AKeep+ANBU
AM: no clue, didnt watch any :)

The following link will preset the time converter to 21:00 UTC, so you only have to select your timezone at the right box ("To time zone") and press "Convert"! Saves a few seconds :)

mIRC is just one of the many IRC clients you can use on Windows. I don't have suggestions right now but I'm sure others can give you some. Obviously if you are not on Windows you won't be using mIRC at all, but the clients available for that operating system.

I used to have tons of messengers open because all the people I know are scattered all over the place using different messengers so I have to keep them all open...
I switched to Trillian... its great! I have one main chat program open instead of 5 open (YAY I can see my desktop now thank goodness!). Its kinda like a all in one chat program. http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ You can find it there... and they've got tons of skins... hehehe... I'm a skin freak. I use IRC on Trillian and it seems to work ok though it doesn't have all the features mIRC would have... so in that aspect... it kinda sucks... decisions decisions...

I think this is a good idea, but isn't chatting and reading subtitles going to be a bit hard to do? I mean, if you've already watched the anime episode before, then you will pretty much know whats going to happen and can freely talk about it. But if you are watching it for the first time, it will be difficult to discuss and read at the same time...

plasmasword001: Well it's a skill we practice each week. :D I usually have my IRC channel window maximized and my media player set to always-on-top at the top part of my screen. I can see comments scrolling up from the bottom of the screen. Quick glances at the IRC window will give you an idea of what people are talking about. Responding, well, that's gonna take your attention away from the show a bit, but you do not have to concentrate fully on the show right? If you read subtitles quick you have some time left to type.

Some of us do watch the show beforehand. I don't know about them, but I prefer to watch it the first time. I have such a backlog of anime that watching an episode twice isn't worth it. :p

EDIT: Oh yeah, during the party we don't actually talk that much, but only briefly comment on something we see or type "lol", "XD", "hahaha" during funny moments. :heh:

Sorry I couldn't make it this Sunday :( I had to go out of town for the weekend to my grandma's place.... and I got a little too involved playing Halo and CS hehehehehe :p

I should be able to make it this Sunday though... maybe we can do a poll and see if people would prefer a weekday instead of a weekend since I'm sure lots of people makes plans... (except me... I have no life... but that's another story...)

First, I really understand how why you couldn't get away from playing Halo. It's so great! :D
Anyways.. Don't worry.
The thing is that someone on IRC counts down.
You know.. "5..4..3..2..1..0!". And on 0 is when everyone starts the episode in their player. So you're supposed to chat and watch at the same time! :D
First time I heard that.. I was like :eek: how is that supposed to go!?
But hey, I got my own way to. And it works perfect for me! Might be a good way for you too! :D

We had a poll before on the old forum, PiGGiEE, and we decided on this particular time. There used to be another party on Wednesday evenings (US Eastern time) but attendance was so bad (1 or 2, usually just me :heh: ) that it was cancelled.

22:00 UTC is 23:00 GMT+1 (that should be your timezone, no?) For other time calculations please use this link: Convert 22:00 UTC to something else (http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc?showtime=22:00:00&zone=UTC).

About the time: I prefer 21:00 UTC, but when we move AM to the end of the party and are not going to start late I guess it's ok :) Might have to skip the party every now and then though.

sorry i missed the last anime party, but ever since the 1.10 diablo 2 patch came out, i've been a hermit that forgets the time, day and often month. i'm getting into this rehab thing, and i think i'm becoming better again. but if i'm not there at this week's party, get somebody who has diablo, starcraft, or warcraft to come on battle.net USwest and whisper me, my acct name is HoboGod. :)

:p I play starcraft and warcraft too... I've been playing too much of it so I'm trying to cut down a little....since when I get into it... I don't seem to remember seeing the sun come up or down... but hehehehhe HALO PC is coming next week... so I think I might have something else to be addicted to for awhile... along with all the anime I'm downloading and needing to watch.

But I'm going to try to make it this sunday... I hope I don't have to go over to my grandma's again :( If she's making lasagne... then it can't be helped and I must go over there... since its rare she ever makes it and when she does its soooooo yummmmmmmmmmmy! :D

Awww, PiGGiEE and HoboGod, you missed the party again yesterday. :( The rest of us watched the episodes on the schedule except for Peace Maker Kurogane 4. We felt that three episodes per party was too long.

Therefore PMK 4 will be postponed until further notice, but will be used as backup at a future party if enough people present at the party wants to watch it. :)

Awww sorry :( I've been so busy lately... staying up late and doing a bunch of research and stuff. Plus Grandma wanted me to go over again... and some friends called me out that day. I'm usually not as busy... but lately... for some reason... everyone is calling me to go hang out. Must be cuz of the holidays...
I don't see anything on for this sunday and I truly would like to make it cuz I think it'd be fun... but I dunno how my schedule will be like until the day comes... My family & friends have a habit of calling me last minute :( Hmmmm I guess I can turn my cell phone off hehehe.

The time for the party was set to accommodate people in Europe. Moving 3 hours forward would mean a few hours past midnight for them.

I am posting in alternate posts so I will stop at this one. There are usually 4-5 people at the party but for some reason everyone didn't make it yesterday. Half of the regulars are in Europe and there were none from West coast of U.S. before so the current time did not matter. Time has always been a problem and we took some time to agree upon this particular time. Let us see if there is enough interest to move it later, but I doubt it unless those in the Europe don't mind sleeping late on a Monday morning. :p

Watched FMA 6 today. Three people. AM 11 will be watched over the week individually, because that ep has been stagnant for so long. This is my second last party before I go home for holidays. I know I won't be able to download new episodes unless I find a cheap broadband connection. If there are extra episodes that come out (eg. FMA 9 when we're watching 8) I'll download them here and maybe join everyone else when I'm back home. Otherwise another user, Cammie, might host the party when I am not here. JustAnotherFan will be the backup if she cannot make it. :)

The party is more fun when more people are there... :sad:

Lately, not very good. You can read the posts I make in this thread after each party to see what we did or did not do. Expect 2-3 users for now excluding yourself, if you're lucky. Then again, attendance may go up during the year-end break.

No choice but to double post. No one is replying anymore. Party attendance today was better and we watched three consecutive episodes of Full Metal Alchemist. :) This may be my last party for a while as I leave for home next Friday.

To whomever is staying for the next 4 parties, have fun if I cannot attend it from home. Feel free to host it if no one else is doing it. Hopefully Cammie will be able to take over for a few of the parties. Please post in this thread after each party so I can edit the first post to reflect whatever episodes you want to watch at the next party. :D

I made the anime party this week! :D Watched only FMA 10. That's the only ep I can watch since I can't download anime on dial-up. Unless we start watching AM 12-14 or move to Kanon or OTW (which I brought home) I probably will not attend the other parties so I don't get spoilers.

lwl12 is hosting the show, but in his absence I am secondary fallback host in case none of the others manage to show up :)

I think it would be unfair to lwl though to start new series while he isn't able to download them. And it probably takes some time to agree on new series anyway, so we can already start that :)

So: any other people who would join when we start watching Planetes, Avenger or Tsukihime? Adn what ep would you all prefer to start with?

JAF: You can start a new series if you want, preferably at Ep 1 so I can catch up with the episodes I miss when I get back. If you, say, start at Bottle Fairy 10 then of course I'll have 10+ episodes to watch before the next anime party I can attend. :p

Cammie: I have no idea what episodes will be shown this coming Sunday. You should show up and chat with those who are present though. I have not seen you on IRC for a long time. :p

PiGGiEE said she wanted to attend the party, but I haven't seen her so far. It would be nice to get more people since our attendance is pretty low. Due to timezone differences it will be hard to change the time for the party. If GATX207_Blitz can make it at the current time it would be great. :D

BTW.... is anyone having a hard time dl from BT? Ever since I switched to cable my dl rate has gone waaay down like to 10 compared to 200+ on dsl. I must be doing something wrong?

Hmmmm, as I have a pronounced allergy to Air Master and FMA has no real appeal to me, I've been staying clear for a while...But I'd love to watch some Bottle Fairy with some good company. That is one funny anime!

I remain of the opinion that it's most fun to watch humor (or unintentional humor) in a party format, but I might be swayed by Tsukihime or Avenger (Planetes is far to good, hehe)...We'll see :)

Seems like the interest in the party is there, just the selection of anime not to everyones liking :)

It's difficult to discuss that on the forums for various reasons (one being that they are "too slow"), so I suggest everyone who is interested in participating at future sunday anime parties - as long as there is anime he wants to watch - to join the next weeks anime party. Gathering channel, date and time, can be found here

We are definitely not going to watch FMA 11 as it's now confirmed to be a cliffhanger. Instead we are discussing what series we are going to watch in the future :)

Note: as lwl12 already mentioned the main channel is only the gathering point. If you want to participate at the party: mention you are interested in the party, so you will get a pointer to the correct channel, don't just wait for the party to start there (as that won't happen) :)

I do not mind watching Bottle Fairy (I have all the episodes that came out as of last Friday) but it's all back on my desktop 9000+ miles from here. :( You can all watch the first few episodes if you want and I'll catch up later. Just don't watch all of them just because it is so short. :heh:

:hmm: Only Chibi-Trekki showed up today, and with only two it's rather pointless to do a party.

While a lot of people always WANT to join the actual participation is zero (or close to).
It's up to lwl12 as host for the final decision, but I suggest we declare this event as dead :sad:

I wanted to go, but I didn't catch up on FMA yet, and BF I've watched the 1st ep already. It'd be pretty sad if this event is dead, i wanted to be there at least once.

I talked with JustAnotherFan a bit about this and he suggested that we make the party an impromptu one among a few users and watch whatever episodes we want at any time we want whenever we feel like it. I do want to finish watching FMA so that might be a good idea.
