TV Size lyrics for the opening and ending themes of Death Note.

Feel free to point out anything wrong!

the WORLD (TV Size Version)
Vocals: Nightmare

Within the spreading darkness, we exchanged vows of revolution
Because I can’t let anyone interfere with me

In the future that the fruit told me of
Dreams, turn into ideals

Everyone wished for a "finale"…

Within the spreading darkness, we exchanged vows of revolution
I can’t let anyone interfere with me
Someday, I’ll show you a shining world

I had a dream that no one else could have
and I threw away everything that I didn’t need
Thoughts that I can’t surrender dwell in my chest

My overflowing urges aren’t fully repressed
Because I have a heart that yearns powerfully

Uhm, are we allowed to discuss the music references or something similar here?

About ending song title "Alumina", what does it mean? Al2O3? What does that have to do with Death Note (or even the song lyrics)? :heh:

Also, when are the release date for the opening, ending and OST?

And thanks Li Jianliang for your efforts.

And thanks Li Jianliang for your efforts.I don't know what 'alumina' might refer to other than the chemical product... There's nothing related to it in the lyrics, not even in the full size version (that I think I have). This might be another example of Japanese people using whatever sounds foreign and cool.

The OP and ED will be released on the same CD on October 18th, 2006. I haven't read anything on the OST yet.

Thank you! ^_^

A momentary sparkle twinkles within the flowing time
I’m a Believer who can keep walking so to engrave into this world’s memories

I had a dream that no one else could have
And I threw away everything that I didn’t need
Thoughts that I can’t surrender dwell in my chest

Even if I’m still in the rift between reality and ideals
And my feet are bound by shackles of sacrifice
My overflowing impulse isn’t fully repressed
Because I have a heart that yearns powerfully

“Pretense” “Fear” “Facade” “Grief”
I won’t be weak enough
To be apprehended by the various negative things
I’m a trickster who doesn’t know loneliness

The groups of buildings that pierce the night sky
I look up at the sky in which stars are such are invisible
And ask myself, “Won’t I be lost?”

Things like being smeared by those who overflow in this entire city
Or being infatuated won’t happen to me
Because at the end of the road that connects to tomorrow
I want to see something that’ll grab onto my hand

I close my eyes and it surfaces in my sea of consciousness
The moment when I’ll get the ideal that I’d pictured

To merely be accepted by this world and rot away
For as long as you “live” is equal to being stupid
Go toward that which no one else can have-
The crystal known as “my oneself”

Piercing through the whitewash
Will turn into the fact someday
I want to keep believing in it stubbornly
It’s just my faith. The absolute truth.

A momentary sparkle twinkles within the flowing time
I’m a Believer who can keep walking so to engrave into this world’s memories

What do people think the possibilities of us getting another OP & ED.. what with it being 37 episodes and all. :3

Also.. i want a damn OST release date.

I think there could be reason to see another OP, since the current OP only cover a small part of what I expect the series to cover:
The OP/ED features every character introduced in about the first quarter of the first half of the manga, except one (Misa). Within probably one episode, every character depicted but her will have been introduced, actually (only Naomi is left). If they're depicting Raye/Naomi, why not Higuchi or the sinister roundtable as a whole (that could make an ominous cut in the OP)? Rem certainly plays an important role in all this. Not to mention those two friends of L's. At the moment, too, they're only portraying Misa as desperate, someone who's "saved" by Kira, and you could say that's how she could view her life until she obtained the note and met Kira (in the OP, does she look the type to say, "Misa with her special eyes is much stronger"?). A new OP could have Light and L battling not by peering at one another from a distance, but with L's foot and Light's fist or by way of tennis. They could even depict the transformation into purity of the "new" Light, and hint at how Kira still lies within him waiting to be released.
Given all the attention that's been paid to this current OP/ED, however, I feel like maybe it's an important promotion that could last the entire series... Can anyone say if the first Fullmetal Alchemist OP/ED had the same amount of attention as this?

Of course, they could keep the music and make a whole new animation, but that usually isn't done (only time I recall, at the moment, was in Honey & Clover). I do like the music and wouldn't mind seeing it stay too much, although some change would always be enjoyable.

I'd like to think that they'll extend the # of episodes to reach beyond the first half of the manga (which I've become almost certain they will only be able to cover unless they mix together or cut events, although a few more episodes will be necessary to know for sure), too, eventually.

Yeah, i get what you're saying. Misa does become a major character to the story. They've done a good job with not adding her into the op - just like in th manga, we had no idea who she was until first seeing her & i like that they're keeping that the same for the anime. Though, i do believe that she should at least be added into the op meaning we'll get a change hopefully. The same goes for REM, though if they do create a new video featuring Misa, then i'm pretty sure they'll at least add Rem.

As for the 'sinister roundtable' (love what you've done there), it pretty much depends on how many episode they'll appear in i think.

Hmm, with the series being 37 episodes - its got me wondering if we'll be getting more then one OST. So far there haven't been more then around 6/7 BGM's played - so just maybe this OST might be enough for the whole series.

Also, the idea of a DS game is just insane - but i'll play it. :3

Go hunt out their Anima album if you haven't already. I haven't heard that much of their stuff, I admit, but I heard that album a while back and remember really liking it. Was really surprised when I saw their name come up in the OP, especially as I loved the song from the first few seconds :)

I think I saw Misa in the giant screen in the background in the ending, around the time Light throws the apple up to Ryuk. Not a dead giveaway, but still there.
Although it starts out kinda slow, I like Alumina. I also agree that it's name was chosen just because it sounds cool. :heh:

The ending theme is nice. The intro goes along very well with the image of Light's demon-red eyes. The full version of the song doesn't seem as nice as the TV version though. It really needs to be paired with the visuals for the full effect.

Nightmare is a Visual Kei band. Their music style varies from pop to metal, a bit like Dir en grey's.
I think both OP/ED fits fairly well to the anime's setting.

I think it's track 23, "Low of Solipsism" on the soundtrack.

Not a bad soundtrack at all. One of the few times I've seen an anime soundtrack with a choir. What's more, there are two composers working on it!

Yoshihisa Hirano is behind the Composition to the series, so i'd say its just Hideki Taniuchi behind the soundtrack. Anyway, indeed its a good OST - the fact that the second part of it has all the darker themed tunes from the series makes it a certain win!

Oh my God... being a major fan of Death Note and loving electric guitars, I definitely love this OST. It's just... awesome, especially the way it mixes piano with rock. I've noticed there're several tunes we didn't hear yet. Speaking of which, "Light Lights up light" is one of them, right? Nice tune, and very interesting name haha. :p

I'm very happy they included the BGM I loved the most and is totally my favorite (next to "Death Note"):
soundtrack # 26 "Dirge". Ahhh, it's the one which played when Naomi walked away... it's so sad and full of dispair. I really really really like that scene (I made my wallpaper (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/692/dnwpec0.jpg)of that scene). *fangirls*

Tracks 1 to 17 are composed by Taniuchi Hideki, and tracks 18 to 28 by Yoshihisa Hirano. Before i mentioned about the second half of the OST having more of a darker theme, well it makes sense with the two different composers. Fav' tracks so far are the two L theme's, Rem, Death note theme, Kyrie, Low of Solipsism & Dirge - i'm very much loving all of it though.

As for a second OST, at the moment there are plenty of BGM's on the soundtrack that haven't been used - though it is 37 episodes, so it could happen.

I'm very happy they included the BGM I loved the most and is totally my favorite (next to "Death Note"):

Its actually amazing how much emotion runs through one track. When this series ends, i can still see myself saying that was the best part of the series.. done perfectly for manga readers with the track Dirge working perfectly. Very happy to see it appearing on the OST.

Wow. The choral music on the soundtrack is great. At first something about those songs struck me as odd within the context of the show (too overdramatic, too religious, too christian maybe?) But either way, after hearing it on the soundtrack I really like it. My favorites are the Death Note theme, Kyrie, and Requiem. Dirge reminds me of Barber's adagio for strings.

The parts by the other composer sound like backing tracks to failed rock songs, except for L's themes which are pretty good. Oh well.

I have to say my favourite is track 4. If I'm not mistaken, it appears in almost every episode. As well as track 19, which plays at the beginning of episode 4.
Listening through, it has all the familiar background music, well worth owning, in my opinion.

Really, the first part is nothing compared to the second part. The latter is filled with awesomeness, and the best thing is that most of its tracks have not appeared in the anime yet.

Better than the Op or Ed is L themes 1 and 2 . Track 11 is a treat to listen to in the whole ost

Track 04 ' L no TE-MU ' ( L's Theme )

Track 11 ' L no TE-MU B ' ( L's Theme B )

I don't know what happened but as soon as I heard the OP and ED on youtube I was hook-line-and sinker. My friend who actually has japanese as a langauge in school thinks I'm nuts coz I memorized the whole thing in 20 mins. What I appreciate about it are the graphics that go with it. Some of the other animes their songs are good but don't match up with the graphics.

#2: "What's up people" by Maximum the Hormone
Ending Theme:

#2: "Zetsubou Billy" by Maximum the Hormone

I was listening to the Death Note Theme and found that they're acctually singing 'Dies Irae' but to different music. I know because I've done that song in chorus twice. Very cool.

The new opening definitely does not fit Death Note. I can catch some random English here and there (sucker and the f-word) but other than that... nothing. Is it just my idea or are they really using sucky second opening themes? However, compared to this, Kaidoku Funou sounds like the best lullaby ever on earth. O_O (j/k, but I think you got the point...)

Well, watch the actual animation.
Yeah, the song by itself, it doesn't look like metal would fit Death Note....
but ZOMG the new OP is downright AWESOME!

The RAWS will probably be out sometime today, so hang on tight.... it's one of the best anime OP I've seen in a while :D

OP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj40QXrJzCg
ED: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkvvOlyrD7M

Truely epic OP. The songs themselves are very mediocre, even though I love heavy- music. The songs are so experimental to the point where they need to shoot themselves in the foot for coming up with such ideas and song structures.

aohige
2007-02-27, 19:19
Song structures? Experimental?
You sound like this is orchestra or something. :eyebrow:
It's just as chaotic as any death metal, and it should.

Besides, Maximum the Hormone isn't a noob band or anything man.
They've done songs for Air Master (Ending) and Akagi (Ending as well).
They also do songs for non-anime shows, mostly variety shows.

that new opening is too... random heavy thrasher.

they should've put Nightmare's new song, Criminal Baby, instead since the song style and title fits the series. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XebDTdph4Nk

I loved the Akagi ED. It's just that MtH tries too hard IMO. Some parts of the song were alright, but most of it sounds horrible, even for a guy who can stand stuff like Alexisonfire and In Flames.

And I find this opening much more fitting to the animation sequence than the 2nd Code Geass opening

Kusaja

Insane describes both of them quite exactly.

I'll have to find out what the heck the lyrics are supposed to be and so on, but IMHO they will never come close to matching the original OP and ED, at least for me. The animation is great though.

The original two songs fit Death Note's theme much better than this, though I guess that the new OP and ED will make more sense with time for those who are new to the story. The content itself in these two new OP/ED sequences is already a bit surprising, without saying anything else here.

The animations for the new OP & ED are awesome!
I'm not a fan of the OP-song though..... too fucked up!
But the ED-song is really great imo.

And I don't think theres anything special with the first OP & ED, at least not the Opening, its boring. The ED is much better.

The new Nightware song was good, better than the new OP but not the new ED.

They were smoking somthing when they created that opening. lol. I can't say I like the song, but the opening is certainly very amusing. The ending song is actually kind of growing on me, which is kind of surprising cause that's not my kind of music.

All and all, I prefer the first OP/ED and will miss them. It's wasn't just that the music fit, but that the actual lyrics were just so well suited to Death Note. Almost as if they were written for it (though I know they weren't). Not sure about the lyrics of these new songs. But the new OP certainly cracked me up.

I think the new OP is great and does fit deathnote.

Symbolically:
Light (with the deathnote) has god-like power...
He also has L still spinning in circles...
He's basically baiting Ryuk to do whatever he wants...
All the cops are "shooting" and "missing"
He's got a star-model girl that's crazy for him...

Basically he's bad ass.

As far as the songs go, the band has a very primitive hardcore sound with experimental elements. Think Hatebreed + System of a Down combo, except slightly better (for the record I hate both of those bands with a passion). Do I like the song? Not particularly, but it grows on you. Honestly, it works here. I love the intensity. Ultimately though, I feel that people are focusing on the song too much and not the video as a whole. Everything works, it's perfect, and I get a stupid grin on my face every time I watch it/them. The ED is simply incredible and the song is a bit better in it. The new Death Note OP/ED combo is one of the few that I've seen really break the mold, and I like that.

I just have to say I'm shocked. I have never had an OP and ED that I actually REALLY liked and wanted to download. Most OP's and ED's are j-pop crap or too light to me. I'm not fond much for hard rock or heavy metal music, but there are no words for me to describe the video and footage of Death Note's second opening.

The animation uses contrast between light & shadows with striking colors to creat a psychedelic effect and almost if most of the imagery is subliminal as it is surreal.
I just love Misas' frames in the new opening, and I noticed that it is quite spoilerful; there are three new faces which have never been seen during the course of the anime.

The second ending is just all Light restored back to his DEATH NOTE days and dressed in an executive's suit.

It does fit in very nicely with the theme of DeathNote being quite a 'dark' theme
Really does throw you into the mood for DeathNote

All in all, the OP/ED music seems to have been used quite effectively in the context for the theme of DeathNote

Mark me as one of those who disliked the OP/ED musics of the second series but ended up loving them.
Mostly because after a few views, I began to realize how it fit so well with the dark and chaotic state of Light and the other characters. Plus, even though the lyrics aresangreallyreallyfast if you find the translation you'll see it talks mostly in a degrading way about convenience to humans for their worries being washed away by someone, AKA, humans feeling safer because of Light destroying criminals in the world. Just like humanity would lazy out if they knew God would take care of their every problems.

I specially love the "Hey hey human sucker. Ah human human fucker", part of the song at the end where light slowly walks past through all of his obstacles until Near.
The part after that is the only bit I dislike though, because the "What's up people" along with Light suddenly screaming at us feels awkward.

And why does the ED have to have a spoiler on it? Xp

To be honest, I haven't seen even ONE episode of the anime. I got my Death Note fix from the live action movies.

Anyway, out of curiosity, I checked out the OP and ED sequences on YouTube. With regards to the second OP (What's Up, People? by Maximum the Hormone), I'm not really a fan of the metal rock genre, but I have to say that the song fits the sequence, hence I've been listening to that song over and over. Same goes with Zetsubou Billy.

Madhouse really don't like using most of the music more twice. It's great for use fans, the more DN music we get the better.

N's theme has now become my favourite DN music. I love how his theme is so similar to L's, the two being so similar and all.

Misa's B theme was used during the Ray Penbar bus part. I was quite surprised to notice when re-watching 2-17, I thought they were saving Misa's very own mind fuck music for when/if Misa dies.

I just got both OST1 and OST2 of the anime off the shelf recently. I have to say it's a great soundtrack, the melancholic electric guitar tracks and the full-blast orchestrated choir scores suits the morbid mood of the story excellently.

The last time I've heard the electric guitar played in such an awesome melancholic way ever was in the OSTs for the Silent Hill series, another "morbid" series.

I dont like that particular kind of metal, and I wouldnt listen to it on it's own. But i think the 2nd OP song is really fun in conjunction with the animation sequences. Plus i always thought Nightmares op was bad.

Not to happy with the release date --- though there's nothing i can do about that. :3

Looking very much forward to this. From the past few episodes we've heard a good number of new material for this second arc, and i just know we'll be getting more as we progress.

The third soundtrack is AMAZING, every track I've listened to so far (apart from "Mello 2") has blown me away, the only issue being how they put way too many remixes on the CD to fill it up. This has certainly made up for any ending disappointment.

Talking of which, has anyone else heard "Mello 2" in the anime before? I don't recall ever hearing it. Would show how much work has been put in if they made too many songs and decided not to include it!

And, Jesus Christ, how many themes does L have now!?

Edit: They didn't include the 'uber' version of Mikami's theme!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

They're used in the anime, so i'm glad they appeared on the third soundtrack.

Yes it was in the anime.

& yeah i'm very impressed with the third soundtrack, especially being released the day after the last episode aired. I can't stop listening to the third track L no Kako, which was played in the final episode with Light's run away scene. A powerful scene & a powerful track to match.

Would you happen to remember the episode Mello 2 was used in?

I love Mello and Mello no Theme myself, he has some truly amazing theme songs.

Just wish the track the version of Mikami's theme that was used when Light spoke to Mikami on the phone was included... :(

I don't sorry. Though i do remember hearing in the in anime.

Mello no Theme is a awesome track, i loved this straight away the first time it was used in the series.

Misa no Kodoku is another wonderful piece of music. Such a relaxing track, just like her two themes that appeared on the second soundtrack.

You mean the one when Light is running or the one during the end credits? Both are on there. The one when Light is running is "L no Kako" and the other one is "Coda~Death Note"

Finally, someone brings that up! I was listening to the OSTs today and I thought I had went insane. The only difference that I can pick up is that they have different intervals. But yes, they sound the same to me.

Err...count me in with the crowd that likes the death metal songs used in the second opening and ending. I hated them at first but I now can't get enough of them. They are chaotic songs that I normally wouldn't listen to but they are catchy.

"Human Sucker, Human F******" on repeat has been in my head all day. >_>

So it seems we won't be getting the second half of "Tactics of the Absolute" (OST II) on a soundtrack, played as the alarm sounds in Ep. 25. I was really looking forward to that little bit, definitely my favorite piece in the series. That whole scene left me sweating and gripping my seat like a madman, and the song had a big part in that. Yes! I had also realized that and was gonna mention it here but I forgot. Ever since I got the OST Ive been letting the whole thing play and I noticed Death Image played too often and seemed out of place sometimes. But yeah theyre exactly the same as far as I can tell, only Death Image is 2 seconds longer.

Hello,

I really loved the song that was played in the last episode while Light was (trying to ) explain his reasons.
It begins when the 2nd part begins.

Really like it how they only used the vocals during this scene.

Is it on one of the soundtracks?

"Light's theme" is an amazing work of art, I can listen to that for hours while browsing forums or the likes. It is a perfect blend of utter sadness and mystery. L's theme and L's theme B are also quite catchy, along with Domine Kira.

I also love both first opening and ending, both performed by Nightmare.

im trying to identify a tune in death note. its quite frequent (usually when either Kira or L are explaining something). i have not been able to find it on the sountrack though.

you can here it at aprox 4:40-5:40 on episode 5 diplomacy.

any help will be handsomely rewarded. (ok maybe not but ill be tremendously thankfull).

p.s. im sorry to say that i havent read the majority of the posts since i wouldnt know what I'd be actually looking for.

EDIT

There's so much music missing that I want...because, well, I want all of it. XD

Mostly the Orchestrated stuff, because I love that kind of music (I'm all weird XP).

I do want that one that plays while Light is trying to explain himself...the one that's only choral. I absolutely want that songggg.

I'll kill for it! XD

I'm kidding of course (maybe).

Any chance there'll be a 4th?

Cause if not, Christmas is ruined. T_T

Does anyone know the name of the song in episode 10, towards the end? It's right after L gets in the car, talks to Light for a moment, and then drives away. The song plays while Light is talking to Ryuk, the shinigami. The music begins with a piano and then progresses into rock. What is the name of the song?

The episode's total length is 22:54 minutes. The song begins playing at around 19:37 minutes. Actually a little before that.

Does anyone know the name?

Good question, I second that. Someone here must know.

And someone here must also know the song that played when Rem was telling the story of the shinigami named Jealous. The same song also played in episode 14 right after L told Light that he was his first friend?

In Relight 2: L's Successors,

A brand new song?

An unknown song plays during the Q & A with L. When Wammy's House is asking L questions through the computer.

At 3:35 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp0R_iYJ4i8

What song is that? I don't remember it being on any of the OSTs.

Anyone who answers is a genius in my book.
