While I don't really have any arguments, I would like to point out that Lindy said it would take a while for connection with Yuuno's world to be made, but they did, however, have free access to Mid-Childa at that point, somewhat implying that Yuuno's world isn't Mid.

Glancing, I think you're talking about the same scene that I am, 8 minutes into ep13 with Lindy, Nanoha and Yuuno. Lindy first says they'll have a connection to Nanoha's world (Earth) in a day or two, then says the connection to Mid will take months to stabilize. There's no mention of a specific world for Yuuno outside of those two.

For me, there are two things I like about Hayate's new hairstyle. First, I think it makes her look pretty darned gorgeous. Especially now that she cut those bangs and kept growing longer in the back. It went from cute, to hot, to drop-dead gorgeous.

Secondly, and a bit more objectively, is that it makes her look more mature. It is probably because her StrikerS hairstyle is so similar to her A's hairstyle (it's only slightly longer in the back), because between the three of the Aces, Hayate still radiated the largest 'high school aura.'

Haven't really been keeping up to date on Nanoha, ever since StS... First post in Nanoha in days weeks months :upset:
On the other hand, I accidentally got an extra copy of Strikers Nano! X First Stage (http://shop.melonbooks.co.jp/shop/sp_asita_x_fs.php). If anyone wants it and is willing to pay shipping, it's free (along with whatever random Nanoha posters that I can scrounge up from magazines, and other things I have lying around). Shipping from HK, so SG and other parts of SE Asia probably wouldn't be too expensive.

Actually, the XV-class (the type of vessel that the Claudia is supposed to be) has a slightly different design to this one.

Seems like they went for "Don't fix what's not broken." Not that I would mind more exotic and radical designs. Could also be this new ship is just a small modification, having a similar purpose as the others so it doesn't need much new.

From my POV, it's more like the Volfram is a smaller version of the XV but with more detail. Also the Volfram seems more... triangular in profile than the XV's.

There's also the fact that from an economics standpoint (both IRL and in fiction), having ships (or vehicles) be not too dissimilar in appearance is more cost-effective at times - like all the variants of the M113 in service that fulfilled roles from anti-arcraft to mine-clearing to even a mobile mortar.

It does seem unlikely that the rank inflation can continue indefinitely, so I wouldn't expect her mage rank to have increased much, if at all. But what I think Jabawock was asking is what her military rank is. IIRC she is now the Navy's head of investigations, or somesuch. Probably substantially higher than Lt. Colonel, then. Admiral Yagami, anyone?

Lindy retired from working in the field to take a desk job (or something to that effect). IIRC her rank in StrikerS is "Director". Presumably Leti is similarly-ranked, though I can't remember if she even shows up at all in the anime.

@itanshi: How would that work? I'm pretty sure Admiral is Navy-only rank...

I looked at the new design for Hayate, and have to say that I don't like it. Hayate just doesn't look right unless she has short hair. I also do not like the concept of Force having a male protagonist.

I wonder, is she just some random clothes-seller who they happen to befriend that"], or did Thoma know her from before? It looks like the former case, to me, but I suppose we'll have to wait for a translation to know.

Yay for Hayate's shiny new spess ship. I'd love to have an office like that. She and Rein seem pretty cheerful, though. Presumably they haven't heard from Fate and Tea yet about what happened last chapter.

Oh, and does anyone know what "Hückebein" is? IIRC it's a reference to Super Robot Wars...

The movie's manga is (hopefully) a fill-in-the blanks type like the A's and Strikers manga. That leads to unique opportunites. Depending on how they wish the plot to develop, the majority of Jewel Seed hunting can be narrated in either the movie or this manga.
What I'd like to know is what is the standing of this movie in the Nanoha continuity? Is it a movie made in Mid (that could be Vivio's favorite)? Is it superceeding S1 as canon? The movie Sound Stages might shine light on it.

It's an alternate re-telling, non-canon.

The 100th issue (on sale on July 30) of Gakken's Magami Magazine will announce that a Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha film, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st, will open in Japan this spring. The movie will retell the first story of Nanoha Takamachi, an ordinary third-grade girl who becomes a magical girl in search of Jewel Seeds from another world, and Fate Testarossa, another magical girl competing for the Jewel Seeds. Franchise creator Masaki Tsuzuki emphasized that the movie is not necessarily the "true history" of the story, but a "new parallel history."

True. I was suggesting possibilities under the assumption that there wouldn't be too many more characters. Probably more out of the hope that they focus on the established characters (rather than overextending themselves like in StrikerS). But that doesn't mean much. On the other hand, it's quite nice when the story does something completely unexpected (without it coming across as an outright ass-pull)...

1) Vivio and Einhart become friends in the next chapter or two, and the rest of the story is about them working together to... fight crime? I dunno...
2) A truly evil character shows up (sort of like Precia for Fate in season 1) and as a result, Einhart ends up having to fight against her new friends.

I'm tending towards the latter possibility, seeing as it doesn't require the introduction of as many new characters (given that we have now encountered all the characters mentioned in the promotional materials, AFAIK).

I'm for the second scenario too, but instead of a really evil character, I believe one that's misguided (like most of the Nanoha antagonists we've seen so far) would work better. It might give the ladies some headaches if this antagonist fails to respond to befriending but is not evil enough to warrant death-at-all-costs.

You just don't become friends in Nanoha unless you have a fight somewhere along the line. Or get blown up. But mostly, you need to have a fight.

It's kinda hard to tell from the lighting in that scene. And the only piece of color artwork I could find of Thoma showed him with quite light brown hair. But I could be wrong.

I think I've seen the first image, but I definitely haven't seen the other three. From the third image, the top subpicture with Fate and Hayate looks really awesome. As for the rest... fanservice~

I'm curious to know the context for the second subpic from the bottom, though, with Caro sleeping on Nanoha's lap. If they do plan on reinforcing NanoFate, it would be nice to see Nanoha taking more of a parental role towards Erio and Caro...

From the second image, badass Tea is badass. And in the fourth image, I quite like the changes they've made to Raising Heart for the movie.

Think about it, no matter how powerful his weapon was, even if it can do cross dimensional damage, there's no way the people of that village could have seen him or his weapon because they were in different worlds.

Well, Fate and Teana were pretty worried about this "Eclipse", so it might be that one of the weapon's special abilities is to do damage across dimensions. It sure would suck if the village was some place important to Thoma, and the attack was focused there because he was thinking of it at the time... D:

Keep in mind though that the villagers actually SAW the pair of people responsible, and even managed to see their weapons, which wouldn't be possible if Thoma's attack was an interdimensional one that came from another planet. The implication of course is that the culprits were physically present on the village when it was blasted, and not taking potshots from another planet in another dimension.

We know that there have been 10 attacks of this nature so far, and yet all indications point out that Thoma has only ever fired 1 Divide Zero attack so far at this point. Add to the fact that Thoma and Lily are presumably still in the same world (with the communications inconvenience being mentioned again this chapter), and it seems likely that there's another pair of culprits on the loose.

There's also the fact that Lily may not be the only one of her kind out there: She is labelled as "Strosek the 4th" last chapter afterall, implying that there are at least 3 more before her.

No, what I think is that they use these two different manga, one with a more traditional 'magical girl at school' story, and the other a more darker military one. Of course, there are a variety of other possible reasons too.

Wasn't there a big fandom divide over StrikerS? At least I remember reading somewhere that that was the the main reason Vivid and Force were both in manga format, so that if the same thing happened again they could be canceled easily and forgotten.

Actually, more of a big fandom divide in the West, if I understand correctly. The series took a sharp left turn in mood when it (a) sailed off to alien worlds and (b) grew the main characters up to near-adults instead of leaving them cute lil' lolis. Lots of They Changed It Now It Sucks from the Western fans. As Keroko points out, that wasn't the reaction in Japan, where StrikerS and its setting were much more thoroughly embraced, leading to a boom of merchandising (and the financial support for the movie getting greenlit).

To be honest, StrikerS, I loved that better than any anime that came out of 2007 (yes, above Gurren Lagann and Code Geass, and I LIKE Gurren Lagann a lot).

Mostly because of the part near the end... Where Vivio, in her Saint Kaiser form, was crying and asking Nanoha to kill her because she was just someone who wasn't supposed to live, just helping the Cradle move and she wasn't a real person and Nanoha shaking her head goes "no, you're Vivio, the little girl that I've been taking care of. The girl that's crying in front of me... Those tears are real. So tell me, Vivio, what do you want?"

"I want... I want... I want to go home with Nanoha-mama and Fate-mama... Mama... Save me..."

DAMMIT! i'm tearing up again! That scene ALWAYS does that to me!

Though when I saw the "Next Episode" promo for Ep. 10, I was like, "Gah, you finally do something good and new there's MORE filler?!?" but of course we all know that that was classic "Trailers Always Lie." :D It's still my favorite out of the series, though. GrownUp!NanoFate plus Vivio plus Tea plus political conspiracy = win. And eps 21-25 completely owned me. And my wallet, considering what CDs cost to order from Japan.

Though when I saw the "Next Episode" promo for Ep. 10, I was like, "Gah, you finally do something good and new there's MORE filler?!?" but of course we all know that that was classic "Trailers Always Lie." :D It's still my favorite out of the series, though. GrownUp!NanoFate plus Vivio plus Tea plus political conspiracy = win. And eps 21-25 completely owned me. And my wallet, considering what CDs cost to order from Japan.

I have all three seasons on my iPod. :p

Though the subtitles for StrikerS get cut off... ah, well.

Err i dont follow you here, what you mean by "too short" ? and by "take forever" ? it's a monthly manga and we are at chapter 2 i don't see the problem right now.

All we know is that the guy has a book and a weapon that seems to have a twin killing people. Then they mention so many things that it's hard to remember. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is too early but most mangas tell you up front what it's basically about and not just, "huh"? And remember, "Nanoha" was created as a anime, not as a manga.)

Actually, we know a good deal -- background, mostly, but at this point background is what we need to know. We know the world Toma found Lily on is technologically backward, with very limited off-planet communications. We know what sort of man Toma is, and why he went where he did. We know that, because he rescued Lily, he's now carrying a ridiculously powerful weapon that is the focus of an official TSAB investigation -- which is obviously what the story is about. We've met Isis, and gotten a read on her character. And we've had a number of mysterious hints about Lily. For two chapters (64 comics pages) that's a fair chunk of plot.

And Force is, frankly, a lot more focused than Vivid. As it looks now, the Hegemon Ingvalt is meant to be the central character, but she didn't show up on panel until chapter 4. The pages spent on Vivio's life in the first 3 chapters appear, as of now, to be quite unconnected to the Ingvalt plotline, and they don't cohere into a plotline of their own; all they say is "Vivio has many good friends, loves her mamas, and is happy." Vivid's done less to advance its plot, at almost twice the page count, than Force has ...

It's pretty obvious that the guys has a clon or twin or someone else pretending to be him doing the "bad" thinsg we saw in chapter 3. I can't tell you if it's true that mangas reveal the main plot since the begining but as a fanatic of MARVEL I can tell you that work with "uh?"s is very usefull to catch the audience and makes them wonder what's hapening so they will look forward to next chapter, I saw this on World War Hulk, I sawe this in Secret Invasion, I saw this on Avengers the initiative and it turned out to be very good. (although ofcourse this doesn't mean they should release 50 question chapters before starting to revela what's going on. XP)

Force, or rather Nyantype, is a bi-monthly magazine. This may explain Force feeling slow, as with only two chapters a month the story itself only progresses at... well... two chapters a month. Vivid, meanwhile, comes out monthly, so even though the pace in Force is faster, Vivid feels faster because it gives us more chapters in the same amount of time.

I just randomly bought an issue of megami magazine today. Just saw it at the store and felt like getting it. It's my first regular issue(have gotten special issues like the vol.100 before). Anyway, it's vol.108 from may of this year. There was a short little comic in it, it looked like it was part of an ongoing series. So does anyone know if there're scans of this series flying around the internet and if anyone has or plans to translate them?

Just read chapter 5 and I got to say that it was too much talk and perhaps they rushed a bit on the motives of... the girl (Damn, why I can't record names correctly?) I dunno but perhaps leaving them on mystery would had been a bit more intereting, but, oh well, I don't share minds with the guionist so perhaps there are still surprises on Vivid. :)

And thanks godness, no fanservice in this chapter. :heh:

All I've ever seen of Caro wanting to "get" Erio is as a gag in the short comic strips that spoof the series. I've never heard that Caro is actually planning to "get" Erio in canon, though it honestly wouldn't surprise me if she was. It's always the cute ones.
