The original post below is out of date!

AnimeSuki's channel (#animesuki (irc://irc.synirc.net/AnimeSuki)) is currently located on the synIRC network (http://www.synirc.net/).

Future updates will be located in the FAQ (http://forums.animesuki.com/faq.php?faq=animesuki_faq#faq_as_irc).

100We moved to ZiRC!

#animesuki > general chat, as usual :)
#animesuki.h > meant for possible offensive discussions

** howtojoin? **
if you don't have a clue how irc works, just download & install mIRC (www.mirc.com) and click the first link of this post

** clients **
klient (http://www.klient.com/)
irssi (http://irssi.org/) (requires cygwin to run on windows)
Xchat (http://www.xchat.org/)

** notes from other ops **

As always, I will say "read the rules!"
In the channel, type: !rules
DO NOT type: !list, @find

Also, do not post anything that is rated R or anything suggestive for you will get kicked and possibly banned (specially when I'm around). Also, spam will get you kicked as well so be careful. If you're not sure, just pm one of the ops that is talking or just ask in the channel and somebody will answer you. After you get used to the rules, the rest is fun time~

this is a call for the regular forum users who idle there ;)

Yeah.. Either talk or get out!

Just kidding :)

But It would be better if more people would talk.. Since it's almost 10 talking of 80-100 all the time. Which is kind of sad. But hey, newbs! Go to #AnimeSuki now! :)

Well, I remember visiting the channel quite a while ago, during the summer. Back then, the channel was peaceful, and it wasn't very busy. Stopped visiting it for some reason. Visited it again a few days ago. To be honest, I liked the channel substantially more when it had less people; I find all the new rules to be tedious and cliched, and the conversations have begun to get redundant, not to mention asinine. I hate to say it, but it almost makes me think of another #Chat.

Anywho, if I do decide to grace the channel with my presence, don't expect me to talk much; I don't really say anything unless I have something to say, and judging from the way it looked for the short time I was there a few days ago, that won't be often.

But I digress. I'm actually quite the IRC addict, and I leave my computer on 24/7 just for Teh Log's sake. Also, on IRC, I go by the nickname Tabris, so if you ever feel the need to contact me (which won't be likely), I'll most likely be using that alias.

I like idlers, because they help us increase the channel peak. And I can't imagine the chaos if all were to be active XD

Anyway, I wish you all welcome to the channel.

ps. don't ask when the next episode of naruto is out X.x ds.

Cz
2003-11-21, 16:48
New target: to achieve a "channel valley", as opposed to peak. That is, get the lowest user count in the channel, namely by idle kicking those who are inactive for more than 24 hours.

What an evil plan.... :naughty: Now I just need some ops to back me up. :p

I never see anyone in there when I join... wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

I use a chat program called Trillian and I log onto irc that way... joined #animesuki but I'm always the only one in there when I check...

Where are you guys :D I feel so lonely in there!

JustAnotherFan

There are always at least 80 people in #animesuki. They might be idle, but they are there :)

I guess you connect to the wrong server/network. Make sure you connct to the mircx network (or if you don't have this as predefined network, then use the server: irc.mircx.com)

Just clicking on the following link should work, if trillian is integrated into your system properly: Connect me to #animesuki@mircx (irc://irc.mircx.com/animesuki)

For those who want to join the channel but don't know how to figure out mIRC, you can always use the java applet:

http://chat.cjb.net/AnimeSuki

Just type in jour nick and you're ready to chat :)

Note: read the rules by typing !rules when arriving on the channel.
Note2: don't join the channel to ask when is the next naruto coming out.

EvilTomte
2004-01-16, 03:01
Note3: Java IRC Clients suck. Go get a real client. Like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/). Perhaps with some added scripts, like maybe NoName Script (http://www.nnscript.de/). (I'm using that.) :)

If you can't access the channel (#animesuki@irc.mircx.com (irc://irc.mircx.com/animesuki)) via mIRC try the java applet (http://chat.cjb.net/AnimeSuki).

Make sure you understand the rules before joining:

Fservs are not allowed in #animesuki(.h/.quiz) (try #animesuki.fserv). Download your anime at Animesuki (http://www.animesuki.com).
Do not link or ask links to licensed anime or warez or movies.
No public aways. Use a normal /away. Awaynicks are fine, though not preferred.
There is no spoon!
Colors are forbidden.
No "now playing" scripts.
Don't pm the ops. If you've got a question, ask it in the channel. (of course, private conversations are allowed)
No spamming/advertising/pasting ascii art.
No autorejoin. There was a reason why you were kicked.
No abusing of the bots.
No annoying (ie. annoying colors, ascii chars > 127, blink etc.) quit messages.
No triggers that conflict with the channel bots' triggers.
Do not ask when an episode is coming out.
Please talk in English unless absolutely necessary.
No misdirection(tricking people to break the rules)! You shall be banned!
No offensive topics in our channels (except #AnimeSuki.h).

These rules are only guidelines! Ops reserve the right to take action against disruptive users, actions or strange nicks.

JustAnotherFan

I got banned for ...

While I wasn't on my computer as it happened, I did already check my logs when you posted the first time: within the time of 10 hours before your post there were only 2 bans (and as you didn't mention any nick, we can only guess which one of those you are, both bans were "just" before your post):

One ban was for violating rule 9 after he was kicked for racism, offending and inappropriate language and spamming.

The other one for violating rule 1.

Both bans were only temporary (a few minutes) and both people got informed properly about the ban-reason. So what is your problem other than you want to stir things?

Hmm must have missed your title last time I answered. So I guess you were the one with the nick Kinetic9.

The reason why you were kicked was: racism, offending and inappropriate language and spamming (OK, no one told you that but it was sort of obvious, no?). The reason why you were kickbanned was: autorejoin - read rule #9 at http://rules.info.ms. It was there right in your kickban message. If you chose to ignore it: sure blame everyone else, especially after seeing the reason for your initial kick.

It seems that we are getting a lot of new people in the channel. That's good, but please read the rules!! Too many people are coming in and breaking them!! While it does give me more victims, it is still annoying. Specially when they break rule #14 (the one that says "speak english"). I know that for a lot of people, english is not your first language. Well, english is not my first language either and I still type fine. If you can't type certain words correctly or the grammar is just weird, it doesn't matter as long as you can communicate that you're trying to say. But the fact that some people do it on purpose (or use l33t/other language except some basic japanese/just nonsense words that doesn't exist in the english vocabulary/etc) will get banned automatically (or get kicked, depending on which op is alive at that moment). You have been warned.

I wish you could find out what you're talking about before you post. I doubt anyone of us 'abuse' their 'powers' as you called it.

We merely make sure the rules are followed. That is our "job". So I wish you could take some time to think about it before you judge us.

If you break the rules, you'll get kicked. That's all there is to it.

I would love to see some arguments for your statement however.

Interesting how administrative people have fun abusing their own powers in chatrooms. Typical vindictive geeks who take out their rage against the world on the Internet?

Pathetic.

Well, thank you for that compliment. As for the ops abusing our power: please tell us in detail when and how it happened and we will investigate that matter.

How do I register my nick on the IRC channel? I don't think I did, and it's pissing me off. I know there's probably somewhere in this thread where the answer to my question might be, but I'm at school and using a very slow computer so it would take me about 20 minutes to find it. Thanks.

You could always ask on the channel... however to quote the help:

NickServ Help
Syntax: /msg NickServ REGISTER password email

Registers your nickname in the NickServ database. Once your nickname is registered, you can use the SET and ACCESS commands to configure your nickname's settings as you like them. Make sure you remember the password you use when registering; you'll need it to make changes to your nickname later. (Note that case matters! FIDO, Fido, and fido are all different passwords!) You must include an E-mail address when registering your nickname. You can prevent your E-mail address from being shown to other users with the SET HIDE command (type /msg NickServ HELP SET HIDE for more information).
The only part that doesn't mention is the fact that it sends an authorisation email to the address you provided; just like the forum does.

If you're caught on a split, just log back in with another one.
There's a list on http://www.zirc.org, so just choose an alternative one.

Why am I banned from the channel when I haven't used it in half a year @_@

Is it because someone else from my dorm got banned? :O

Does this even work anymore? Every time I join I get kicked by ChanServ:

ChanServ joined the chat room.
You were kicked from the chat room by ChanServ. (This channel may not be used.)

I'm on #animesuki@avalon.az.us.zirc.org

I'm starting to think either 1) it no longer exists, or 2) is on some other IRC provider.

EDIT: yep, on another provider. it's now #animesuki@irc.synirc.net

Abundant? Pffffft. More like fickle.
But yea, people should be careful as not to abuse the bot triggers. :p

I believe there are two, irc://irc.synirc.net/animesuki and another staff-animesuki or something like that.

I'm an irc user (addict?) for well over a decade, though I only frequent 4 networks (zirc, synirc(duh), Side7 and undernet).

A number of people at work use IRC to communicate with team leads and such outside of the office, but I don't do that; I like to separate work from play ROFL

hehe when "the great rift" happened, animesuki, along with a LOT of other channels, moved over to SynIRC.

Cats provided a direct link to it just above you. If you're not familiar with IRC, download the chat client (mIRC) or some equivalent and learn how to use it. Once its installed, it should automatically associate with web page "irc:--" links.

Now.. does the animesuki channel exist properly (as in has mods, etc)? No idea, I prefer the leisurely forum method of talking about anime, not fragmentary texty chat.

Really.... many people who use forums - like the idea that they can reflect and compose their posts. IRC chat is inherently a bit too limited, rather like old-school-tweets. I've used IRC for 20ish years but it does have its limitations.

IRC tends to degenerate into a pack of no more than 30 people who got know each other very well. The rest won't understand what's going on.

This is true. The most active IRC channel I'm in only has 50 members in it but 75% of them talk at least once a day so it's a very active channel. I've never understood "idling" in a channel you never talk in, what's the point? I understand idling in a channel you're an active member of so you can start joining in once a discussion gets started up.
