View Full Version : What the heck is in Akiko's jam!?

nani
2006-10-24, 11:15
Akiko's jam had became an in-joke among Key fans over the years. The jam ingredients were never mentioned in the game, leading to some really wild speculations:

Red ginger

Mr. Minase.

Err....
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/7104/jamsn7.th.jpg (http://img75.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jamsn7.jpg)

My idea is to create a thread for fellow members to post either their own speculations or the various amazing/ridiculous speculations found on the internet. Have fun... :heh:

I think this might work. You should still be able to edit the first post, nani, if you want to change the "intro" a bit. If not, let me know. Also let me know if you want a different thread title. I just went with my gut. ;)

Cheers. :)

Ah the memories of Kanon RPG. Akiko's Jam was one of her special moves which caused serious damage to the enemy...

D:

Going by the color alone (that's all we have, since we can't smell or taste it :p), it could be made from ginger, natto, wasabi, or even all three.

Its the *special* ingredients that only Akiko herself having access to that has everyone nervous :) :) No matter which way your brain goes, it leads to very uncomfortable territory...

Not just the colour. The funny shifting effects when Yuuichi ate it could mean that it makes the eater hallucinate. Probably some kind of mushroom inside it as well.

It looked like the thing was glowing, so radioactivity can't be discounted.

I think the wavy appearance may be a specific embellishment on KyoAni's part. I do not remember it doing that in K2002.

Just as long as it doesn't get to whatever its critical mass is, everyone in the house, not to mention the house itself, will be okay. Last thing they need is fissionable jam!

I'm just surprised Yuuichi hasn't whipped out a geiger counter yet or some other measurement intrumentation to measure (potentially) hazardous effects or called HazMat. ;)

Knowing that Akiko called Makoto a "ingredient", the jam could be made from... lets say... humans.Ahhhhh, the Soylent Green (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b9/Soylent_Green_cover.jpg) angle, eh. Hmmmm...humans made into jam in an anime with a bunch of cute girls....I'm not so sure it just isn't really crappy tasting jam (simple as that). Every great Chef has their one "food/dish" that they think is awesome, but in reality...it blows chunks. ;)

I am disappointed that some of you equates the lovely, elegant Akiko to a murderer...I was the one who killed Mr Minase, and I shall prove that the delicious jam is delicious and fit for human consumption and Yuiichi knows nothing about appreciating good jam. * Chugs down jam...*.........*Dies*

Jokes aside I think the jam is Kanon equiavalent of Space Cake...Yuiichi's vision blurs/hazy after a small dosage...Look, even Akiko seems to forever on 'high' state always inhumanely cheerful and smiling, she could even clear the snow piled up outside her house in record impossible time. I think since she has been consuming it for the longest time, she is able of coherent and logical thinking..Wow...Just wow...No offence but I consider myself one of her biggest fans.

Still I think the jam is pretty much an acquired taste.

Please feel free to refute my claims...Oh yea Nani I love your Ayu avatar, got any more of similar quality for other lead characters?

The one clue we have is that it is not sweet.

My take on it?

Durian + Ginger + Garlic

With a dash of lemon.

I dare anybody to try the above combination and not spaz from it.

:p

NoSanninWa
2006-10-26, 00:07
ick. From what I've heard of durian, that's really the only ingredient required to get the effect we've seen. The garlic is just overkill. (And ginger is delicious, but nothing could save garlicky durian.) Of course some people do love durian fruit, but then again Akiko loves her jam.

I'd vote for it being simply, Durian Jam.

I love durians. Be it the fruit alone, or durian cream puffs, or durain cakes, or durian ice cream.
But come to think of it, despite the popularity of the fruit in these regions and the seemingly endless ways to cook it (durian fried rice, anyone?), I have yet to see durain jam being sold in stores here.

Oh wait, durain jam does exist! But it seems to be only 1 company making it.
Maybe the taste is a tad too unique for even durain lovers? :x

Oh MY GOD!, January 31, 2006

The durian jelly tastes sweet at first, then it tasted like onion and garlic. It made me sick to my stomach. You may need a few Tums.

I love durian too, but the reason why I added durian into the mix is because it has a very strong taste, and when you combine that strong taste with the equally strong ginger and garlic, the taste of the three parts will compete for attention in your tastebuds, leading to information overload and a general clobbering of your senses.

Minoto
2006-10-26, 00:41
I'm thinking it's got to have at least some natto in it, because of the way it stretched when Akiko spread it on the toast...your normal jams and preserves just thin out when spread with a knife, but her jam looked like it had a stretchy / stringy quality to it. Natto would account for that, as well as for it being an acquired taste. Beyond that, though, it's a mystery to me...and I hope it always stays that way. ;)

I want a shot at this. It may be that the jam is made out of many expansive oriental medicinal herbs, so here is my shot.

Over-ripe Banana + Wild Ginseng powder + Stone Cliff Honey ( this is rare honey from bees that make their dwelling on solid stone cliff. It is known to contain some rare hallucinogens. ).

Cheaper alternative would be Over-ripe Banana + Ginseng Tea bag contents + Wild Flower Honey + some cold medicine mixture. Note that this can do massive damage if misused.

As an alternative to the rare Stone Cliff Honey, magic mushroom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_mushroom) may be a more commoin subsititue (only became illegal in Japan in 2002, 3 years after the setting of Kanon).

I'd say it's mushroom jam, the kind that causes hallucinations. That'll explain the warping effect it had on Yuuichi.

My second guess would be it's Super Lemon candy-jam. Super Lemon is a very sour candy that has the effect of shutting down all your senses and concentrate it all on your taste buds (though it gets sweeter once you finished the sour part). As such, it's a popular way to trick someone by offering a seemingly harmless candy (just like one of those wasabi-coated nuts, heh).

Actually, these are parodies(?) of the infamous Saber Bootleg figure http://www.akibablog.net/archives/2006/11/post_906.html

Damn that's hilarious. Sure wish there was a picture of Amano and Kaori also, hehe. And Kaori might have good use for The Jam to make Jun suffer.

Hmm...

If you DON'T treat persimmons by pickling them in a special manner in clay jars, instead of the delightfully sweet red Japanese tomato-like fruit, you will experience the agony of eating a bitter tomato-shaped bar of soap with sand mixed in it.

Perhaps dear Akiko-oneechan attempted to circumvent the whole pickling process, and decided to try and ferment the contents AFTER it has been made into a paste...

Try eating an unpickled persimmon (I have when I went to Tokyo, to my horror), and you'll see exactly what I mean. :heh::heh::heh:

What? Akiko-oneechan started a franchise or something? :heh:

By the way, when I typed "Akiko Jam" on google, this page turned up number 1. :heh:

You only need to read the thread for CLANNAD After Story 8 to realise what the mess she's made this time.

My club is working on doing the full cast of Kanon for a cosplay and what were going to do for Akiko's Jam is add Lemon Juice to Orange Marmalade then give out toast and jam to poor unsuspecting con goers :D

I think Akiko had taken a class from Kusuha Mizuha of Super Robot Wars and applied the formula to her jam.

Nothing short of an eat'em all, a gourmet chef or a badass teen soldier could stomach it. Kanon had none of the stuffs.

I have no idea what it's made of, but I'm surprised her house hasn't been invaded for WMD. :heh:

My friend thinks it's drugs... but I think that everyone except Akiko is allergic to whatever she put in it.

Well I always imagined it to be made of egg yolks or eggs - it does look gooey when Akiko starts spreading it and I can imagine how bad that would taste if mixed with fruit, sugar and gelatine.

I'm sure Akiko and Sanae must have known each other in igh school or something. I'd love to see an anime like that. :heh:

Does Sanae ever actually try her bread and pastry? We know Akiko loves her special blend of jam.
