What does Super Bell"Z mean?

If I'm not wrong thats a japanese band.

Edit:

Read about this group here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUPER_BELL%22Z

a group known for its "DJ Train Conductor" songs that lay announcements recorded from inside trains over hip hop beats.

Great, they have picked the perfect group for this anime :D

I'm loving this anime more and more now :D

The people that appeared in the manga because they read the previous chapters of the manga, I would really like to see these guys animated also, that would be so great :D (maybe even better if some of them are carrying with them Tetsuko no Tabi manga or even an issue of IKKI magazine :) ).

The circulation of IKKI magazine has dropped from 29,000 to about 18,500 :(

Few more relevant information on the title...

This show is slated to be a 13-episodes series. The director Nagaoka Akinori (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=4305) is an old school who also was the episode director for Rose of Versailes. Group TAC (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=95) is the animation production company which is also old school.

Someone mentioned in another thread that this coming April can very well be the best April ever in the history of anime. Tetsuko no Tabi is one of the many shows I'm very much looking forward to this Spring 20007.

I have 5 volumes of the Manga and I've love to translate it but I think it might be a bit beyond me unless I started translating the manga like RIGHT NOW.

If theres a translator out there who wants to do Tetsuko no tabi, come talk to me and I'd make sure that L-E picks it up as I'm an uuber huge Japanese train geek

Keey ya fingers cross that they follow the manga when this show airs cos if they do I should be able to translate this..

I've got 5 pages of the first chapter translated and boy it's some funny s**t. Anyone wanna cast any ideas about how they'll work this?

I somehow think it'll be like one journey per episode cos it'd be kinda hard to fit 2 journey's in to one episode considering the amount of detail thats put in. (Who here knew before reading this post that the length of the Kururi Line was curtailed due to a review of the railways after National Highway Privitization?)

Another slice of life? Interesting... I can imagine what it's going to be like with mangaka being stuck in the train with a hardcore otaku.

Well, who knows. But I love the Japanese trains and the link in the first post makes this sound very attractive and unusual. The train otaku in the story (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=62818) was the first guy ever to visit all 4,636 JR stations (completed in 1995).

I remember once asking the stationmaster in a small end-of-route station some route info and our conversation lasting a few seconds past the train's scheduled departure time, and seeing the guy who was to signal the train's departure getting antsier and antsier as the seconds passed. Love it.

Count me in, I'm interested purely based on the concept. I don't care much for the animation studio and I don't guess the presentation will be anything particularly great, but I hope it turns out worth watching? The premise is unusual and quirky enough... also, Nobuyuki Hiyama as the main character! That guy is crazy, he can do wildly varying roles from Madarame (Genshiken) to Airs Blue (Ryvius) to Chenshin (Planetes) to Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho) :eyespin:
There's also Akira Tomisaka (Kate! From Red Garden!), amd Tokuyoshi Kawashima (William from Emma).

If the animated adaptation fails I can always read the manga, I guess. :p

I'm all for getting this show subbed. Like I mentioned before I have 5 pages of the manga translated and intend to do more. I might be a little on the slow side due to my small kanji base but i'm a super huge train geek so this show would be super fun.

Things might not happen immediately cos some unexpected school bakaness has cropped up but I'm definitely gonna do it.

Wao - I'd appreciate some assistance as a TL check/QC if you're interested?...

PS - Trapp 5 is translated btw and handed off for processing

That's nice to see that we're getting a train geek to work on a show that's requires one for good subbing :D I really wonder what it'll end up like though, I hope it doesn't go overboard on the train-geekiness and details; it had better flesh out the human side of it and do a good job on the backgrounds (especially if they're going to obscure stations).

As for QCing - unfortunately, I'll have to decline that since I'll be going back to school (grumble) and will be burdened with a lot more work even if I choose to ignore more than half of it (grumble again).
Also, my Japanese really does suck too much these days :heh:

You sure like advertising Trapp though, don't you :p

gumbaloom

Yeah its aired but cos it's niche market getting raws has been a little on the difficult side.

I've literally *just* scanned through ep 1 now. For those who've got the manga episode 1 is more or less a direction implementation of Chapter 1 - Visiting all the Stops on the Kururi line. (and it's funny s**t)

I wasn't overly impressed, but I'm not much of a slice-of-life fan anyway, so YMMV.

That's crazy because usually I picture Nobuyuki Hiyama screaming his head of with "BROKEN MAGANEMU" or "YUUUUUUUSHAAAAAAAAAA!". He can do this though because I've seen him do quiet guy roles be not Viral, Guy Shishioh or what have you. The thing is now I picture his character sounding slightly evil.

Let me tell you something, my JLPT level 2 exam was passed mainly based on my train geekness, nah, I'm a train guru[fully understands how nuts and bolts works] know.

I'd set my standards on this show at the extreme, from sound to insider knowledges. Route knowledge to objects detail.

Should this show doesn't go overboard with geekness, the manga won't be that suscessful.

Eps 1 seemed pretty focused on introducing the characters and general show concept, so I wasn't expecting much more than what it delivered. I rather enjoyed it, perhaps more because of knowing that it was based on real experiences. But then, I like slice of life anime to begin with. :heh:

I did find it rather amusing just how openly the mangaka expressed her thoughts about the other characters, as if there was no way that either of them would read later and know what she was actually thinking about them. Or how open she was in chronicling their actions.

Particularly, when the train otaku was talking about how he hoped that the manga would get more girls interested in trains and might allow him to meet a cute girl. That was too hilarious. :p

Judging from the manga review linked in the OP, I don't really expect the action to pick up much later on, but I still look forward to watching future episodes.

I can second those sentiments. If you expect hi octaine action, pretty girls, magic, drama or such like DONT WATCH THIS SHOW.

Pretty much the way each episode is gonna work is they go on a trip and see mundane train geeky stuff (I've got the manga so I know whats coming). This is a show for those who like slow slice of life and prefer to take enjoyment out of watching interpersonal reactions between some very unique characters.

Theres not gonna be any train robberies, shoot outs, hostage dramas or such like so pleae don't watch the series expecting as such.

Good job on showing 2 arches of rail fans in Japan: ride all of station(乗り潰し) and ekiben(駅弁) gourmet.

For the mangaka, his understandings towards Japan's timetable, his hate towards concrete refurbishment station was portrayed perfectly. His marvelous record of clearing all stations in Japan is the proof.

May I make a educated guess that the editer looking guy(who drag the girl to the trip) isn't that skillful enough to do solo rail fan actions like riding all the station of a line.

And I'm not gonna give a single cent of pity to the girl yet.

Lastly, the trivia on introducing Kiha 30 family on Kururi line added a nice touch to normal people.
(BTW, the girl who do that part is well known of a extreme rare rail fan Japan TV star)

I'll love to see how will the fansub group going to handle the rail fan jargons......
(Mistakes upon those hardcore train geek like me* will receives a total treatment, flame wars at best......[j/k])

*: My bad, I didn't explain detail enough that, I am majored in Japan rail and assisted in the shadow on a few technical elementary books on railway about Japan in HK.
[A real train geek must have his/her major department like photo, riding, BGM recording, history, operational, mechanics, etc. Some people like me combines them together to a location, in my case that is Japan]

If any help are needed, I'll let a hand just for this show.

I hate to do lectures but your action is not consider good from the point of our general train geek so-called "code of conduct": You don't bother the normal operations at the time of departure.[for rural line that is]
Especially in Japan, where punctuality is their trademark. [The average delay in Tokaido Shinkansen is 0.6 minutes per year FYI.]

/me stabs gumba... stop assuming things baka.

Well, I am not planning to watch it. However, I tend to watch at least one ep of this geek's subs so I shall watch episode 1. I am sure it's a good series if gumb likes it, just that I tend to pick new shows only in the fall or winter.

Now, let's get it straight.
Since Japanese call train spotter/train lover/train geek with "Tetsu". I suggest we will use "tetsu" for the rest of the discussions.

A new character{super tetsuko} was introduced, her voice is so "MOE".

The visit is to go through around the 5 special stations around Niigata pref.: 3 undeground station and the 2 most closest by the ocean station.

The 1st station[Doai] proves to be a tough challenge to the elders. Nearly 500 staircase up to ground level.

And we got quite a lecture from a station staff at the final stop. He pointed out how really rail fan station travel works. [You enjoy not only the station, but also taste the mood(local live) of the station.]

Naoe's hidden tetsu DNA had yet been waken again when she explain the relationship of noisy between the JR infamous car numbering scheme on EC, DC[short for electric car and diesel car] easy enough for the newcomer correctly enough.

I just have to start judging her she being a tsundere on her tetsu. XD

I must made myself clear enough.
Masumi-chan kawaii yo Masumi-chan!!

I watched the raw for episode 1. I figured while I might not understand most of the dialogue apart from the odd bit here and there, it might be interesting in lieu of a subbed version.

I hope it gets picked up, even if only as a back-burner project with the odd release now and then, as if it was that amusing when I don't understand most of what people are saying, how much better would it be with subs!?

Especially in Japan, where punctuality is their trademark. [The average delay in Tokaido Shinkansen is 0.6 minutes per year FYI.]Your lecture was unnecessary. I guess my post was not clear enough. It was intended to convey the fact that I understood exactly what you say. It was the devotion to punctuality that I loved. The stationmaster, however, was letting courtesy to a visitor trump punctuality. It was a very delicate situation. And clearly, you do not hate to do lectures -- any more than I do.

Being a counselor for years, I had to do lecture everyday in order to effectively aid/educate my clients to face their difficulties, you know, to have them started you must push them to their limits in order to prevent they avoid the problem.

If I hate doing that, I just can't get my job[40+ people/month] done.:eyespin:

I also do a lot of lectures on "tetsu" to have some newcomer who had so less knowledge jump started, ranging from history, service, to mechanism, even how rail companies do their rival game with each other, aka business, to the extreme of political difference between Japan and Europe rail technologies are within my tetsu specialty.:p
