Use the search function, since there is a(many) similar threads about this already.

Did u just say that anime dvds are cheap in Japan? :uhoh:
HK specials, not Japanese DVD's....
So, the plane ticket there + back + hotel just to buy anime? Not too cheap if you ask me, even if they WERE a dollar each.
jir0 is right, if I've never met you then it would be a bit weird to commit to going on a long tour of a foreign country with you. Discounting the fact that we don't really know how each other would act in real life, we all assume that we all shower/bathe regularly, which may just not be true...

Yeah, a friend of mine did something similar to that. He went with a large group of strangers to last years E3 (gaming convention in L.A) and it was a nightmare. Some of the people turned out to be drunken violent idiots and cheapskates when it came time to pay for shared expences. It almost ruined the whole trip for him, and he ended up coming home a day early because of it. I would hate for my first and probably only trip to Japan to turn out like that.
Besides you really only need one or two friends to go anyways.

my parents have been buying me japanese stuff because of my intrest in anime and i'm currently tring to teach myself enough to go. Also anime is cheaper because they don't have to put those stupid english dubs on the dvd's. ebay, a region hack, and some money saves me from having to pay for that dubed stuff they try to sell in the US.

they also dont have to put import fees. Yeah i just remembered. Thats why USA charges so much import fees, they want you to buy US stuff.
:topicoff: But that mostly applies for cars. Yeah they want you to buy Ford
but yeah US doesnt want you to buy import stuff so thats why they charge a huge fee
1) Do you know enough Japanese to understand raws? It takes a LOT of book knowledge/listening experience.
2) When I went, music CD's were about $25-35 each. I'd assume DVDs are not significantly cheaper in Japan, unless (once again) you go for the HK specials.
A quick trip to
Cinescape.com - 6300 yen per Godzilla DVD
animecornerstore.com - about $70 per imported Saikano DVD
so it's really not cheaper, and in fact is about TWICE as expensive.
I might be down to go with Animesuki people if I meet them beforehand, to determine if you guys are people I want to spend at least a month with. (Honestly, I'm sure some of you guys wouldn't want to spend a month with me, either). I don't mean anybody's a BAD person, just not people you want to go on vacation with, like co-workers or classmates.

I think the biggest problem is going with people who want to do the same things as you. Yeah I want to go to a few anime shops and some toy stores, and of course visit some castles and temples. But I really don't think I could spend more than a few days doing that. I have a friend I want to go with because we both pretty much just want to goof off, get lost and check out strip clubs, dance clubs, and hit on cute Japanese school girls who are curious to know if it's true what they say about Americans (whatever they say).
P.S. IT"S SNOWING!!! BOO-YA!!!

I've been to japan once, and all i can say is... 'you need lots of money!!'
Japan is very expensive to stay at.... but some stuff are cheap like manga, resin kits, brand clothes,etc...
But DVDs are way way too expensive .....
But none the less its a festive country to be in, very clean and polite country...
If i wasnt too obsorbed in my car atm, I'd prob go to japan again..

DVD/CDs are not too bad. It' still beats buying them overseas....... after all shipping, store's mark up prices (Which is almost double compare to the original price if you bought in in Japan.)
but the foods are expansive tho.
haha did one of you guys say a month trip to japan, hahaha you better have a house to stay in cuz there is noway you will be able to afford a hotel and other expenses, everything is super high priced there, you guys dont know wut your getting yourself into, maybe like a week long trip, and bring like 10g spending cash to be safe.

let me tell you about the japaniese ecomony. usa has the single lowest import tax in the world. the japaniese has one of the highest. reason
after ww2 the world need to recover. the only country not really affect that could have adford to help other was the us since no battles were done here. so we lowered our traiffs to a very lower price.(tax on importing good) while the world kept thiers high to make a profit. but we never raise ours back up and now we cant. but the the other still have high ones. we are easily 50% lower then everyone else.
this is were the legendary term comes in
fvck the UN
also cliton screwed us over by opening up america fully. thats also why their were no terrorist attacks during his years. he basically gave everyone anything. when bush came to office. he said fvck u. so thats why 9/11 happened.

..wha!?!
I understand what you're saying...but...I don't at all...
'while the world kept their tariffs high to make a profit'? Tariffs are economic sanctions used to punish countries/close off imports. Assuming the same amount of finished product gets exported, the value of local currency in the world market should rise (exporting more than importing), but nothing happens in a vaccum.
If Japan does have high tariffs, it's to protect local jobs by keeping Japan buying Japanese products rather than importing/paying huge import fees for American/European goods.
Interestingly enough, when Japanese cars began outselling American ones during the oil crisis of the 1970's(?), America responded by putting up tariffs against Japanese cars. The Japanese responded by setting up shop in America, creating American divisions of their companies and American factories.
The US WAS one of the only countries (at least a major one) left untouched during WWII. Canada was another one, but for the most part Europe and Asia were pretty war-ravaged. If youknow your Simpson history, the President authorized the one-time printing of a trillion-dollar bill that was stolen by Montgomery Burns...anyway...
'we never raised ours back up and now we can't'? It doesn't sound right (as the US can in part decide their own tariffs), but recently Bush lost in his attempt to block off the importing of steel against (I think it was) the EU.
Personally, I don't think economic tariffs led to 9/11. A repeating pattern of US-assisted genocide/repression and low media awareness led to a bunch of extremists demanding to be heard by any means necessary. Just my 2 cents, though.
I don't understand what you meant by f*ck the UN or the legendary term.

Glad to see at least someone knows about general history, and has been keeping up to date with what is actually happening around the world!

I don't think the economic tarrifs led to 9/11 either. Yes, I guess it is possible that it was a underlying cause but it wasnt a main cause of it at all. Its all about jealosy, IMO anyhow.

That's the most uninformed ridiculous argument I've ever heard. Clinton's economic policies had nothing to do with the middle east and Bush's economic policies weren't any different from Clinton. Bush, like Clinton, is a strong supporter of NAFTA and keeping favored nation status to China. The only thing we care about getting from the middle east is oil and that still hasnt changed. Now Bush recently extended tarrifs on foreign steel imports but this was only because he was thinking about not losing votes for the next election. This sucks for the rest of us because everything made from steel is now more expensive.
No terrorist attacks during the Clinton years?!? What about the embassy bombings in Kenya, the USS Cole, and the first world Trade Center bombing?!? If you want to blame Clinton for anything you can blame him for not doing enough to combat terrorism. Then again hindsight is 100% and not many of us could have predicted an attack like 9/11.
And to drag this thread back onto the original topic, I will be absolutely honest here and say that I wouldn't want to go to Japan with anyone from the forums. At least, not without first knowing you a lot better than I do now.
And I doubt that anyone here would want to go on vacation with me either. ;)
No offense, but I've been down that road in the past with people whom I've known for years, and had a miserable time in a foreign city. Add in worries about money (who has enough to spend and is willing to do so), places to see, money, hotel rooms, money, and ... It just isn't going to happen. :)
As for places to stay, there should be hostels, ryokans, and such where you can stay fairly cheaply. OTOH, if you're going for a month or two, I'd bring credit cards and your ATM card (PIN set and could be used abroad) in case you find places that still don't take credit cards and need cash.
